Hello,
I recently obtained a Samsung Captivate and synced my contacts (through the stock "sync" feature in Android) from my phone to Gmail. This worked very well, however after this initial sync, new contacts that I have added to my phone have not synced with Gmail. Help? Also, I don't know if this matters, but I use k-9 mail instead of the default Gmail app. However I have tried also having the default gmail account on and it doesn't seem to have helped
Anyone? It's getting to be a bit of a problem
I'm having a similar problem
I just got the Samsun Fascinate yesterday and I'm having the same problem. My contacts synced fine from google/gmail but when I added a new phone number into the phone yesterday it never synced up. I was able to add new accounts in the google/gmail and have those sync up on my phone.

When you create new contact are you ticking Google on the "save contact to" pop up?
good day.
Nope. I got that figured out now though. Thanks for the tip!
I think google broke something somewhere, since yesterday automatic sync in gmail got broken, not only for me but I've seen others having the same problem.
I am on the international version of the Galaxy S
I realize this is an old thread, but my problem is almost identical, so I don't want to clutter the board with a new thread...
Captivate. Stock. US.
My contacts have NEVER sync'ed upbound to Google account.
In Contacts>Menu>more>Accounts, sync IS turned on.
By the way, the Google account has NO contacts in it. And I don't need the arrangement to move contacts from google to phone, only from phone to google (as a back-up).
Am I missing some step to make it start syncing?
Here is another thought...all my contacts are in SIM; do they have to be in phone memory for sync to work?
Apologize for the bump here, but this problem remains...no sync from phone up to google--only the other way.
I enter new contacts (generally phone numbers and name only) on the phone--not 1st in gmail. So, I need for PHONE-ENTERED contacts to sync upbound to goggle, but it does not do it.
Is there an app that makes this work, or is it just a Samsung/ATT/google fail with no fix?
If the contact is not flagged as a google contact then there is no way to get it to sync to google. So to remedy that you need to delete all phone based contacts and reneter them as google contacts. Use the below steps.
From the main contact screen hit the menu key then select more then settings then save new contact and select google and all contacts will now be saved as google contacts and thus sync both ways.

Hmmmm...if you do this (make all contacts be "google" contacts, do they reside on your phone or only "up" at google. IOW what if you have no data net connection at all (phone or wifi), are your contacts still on your phone?
Have you tried logging in @ http://www.google.com/contacts? Export My Contacts to a local file in Outlook CSV format. Then use iCSV Address Book in Android market to import them from the local csv file.

I have no contacts at google--they are all on the phone...actually on the SIM; I want them to go up to google, thus your suggestion will not work (nothing at google TO export).

then try it the other way around. Export your contacts in your phone to a csv file then upload them from within google/contacts... did I say that right?
I've had GMAIL since day 1.. NEVER had any issues with my account.. used it on a normal basis. Since getting into my Dinc, I've had to go through 2 account verifications with Google to get back into my account.. both times changing my password. I see that "something" has been spamming email from my account.. at first I thought it was spoofing my email address as the sender, but now I am seeing the email in my sent folder...
Question, is there an app that can monitor when this kind of activity is going on with my phone like this? It's not my computer... I forward all my GMAIL to my main email account (not gmail) so I NEVER log into GMAIL on a computer.. the only thing that is actively logged in is my phone..
Ideas?
I've had the same problem, ended up restoring an old nandroid backup & reinstalling the things i''d lost.
seems t have fixed the issue but my gmail defiantly got hacked; everyone with a hotmail account got sent spam
Just because your email account was hacked does not 100% indicate a malicious program on your phone or computer.
For example: You could have signed up for a website or forum using the same password as your email account. If that forum DB gets compromised, then your password could have been decrypted from the sql database...
It's possible some app has sent an email if:
You've entered your Google password to that app.
You've authorized that app for Google account using WWW (OAuth) or Android OS, but you didn't notice it requests permissions for sending emails.
You gave root permissions to that app and you have Google account set up in Android OS.
I think there is no other way to get access to your account.
How can I remove my Gmail accounts form Google Chrome's other devices tab? Without removing gmail account from device. I want that because, anyone can sign in to my account without password and can explore my gmail and other google accounts.

Hi. I think that's not possible because the Gmail account is a device account. Unless you remove it completely from your device it will not disappear in Chrome.
I agree, you cannot do that. Go to Gmail and Help
Delete or restore a Google Account
Deleting your Google Account will affect all products associated with that account. For example, if you use Gmail with your account, you'll no longer be able to access that email. You'll also be unable to reuse your Gmail username. Before deleting your account, review the data and products associated with your account on the Google Dashboard.
Delete a Google Account
Sign in on the Google Accounts homepage. If you forgot your password, you can reset it.
Click Data tools at the top.
In the Data tools box, click Delete account and data. If you don't see this link near the bottom of the page, your account may have been created through an organization or company which requires different steps for deletion.
Confirm your account deletion. To do so, you'll need to select these two options:
"Yes, I want to delete my account."
"Yes, I acknowledge that I am still responsible for any charges incurred due to any pending financial transaction and I understand that under certain circumstances my earnings won't be paid out."
You can safely select the latter option if you haven't used any of Google's paid products, such as AdWords and Wallet, or if you have no pending financial transactions related to these products.
Restore a Google Account
Having a hard time recovering your account? If you use another email provider like Hotmail or Yahoo as the username for your Google Account, make sure you didn't create another Google Account using that same email address. Two accounts with the same username can't exist at the same time, so you'll need to change the username on the new account first.
If you accidentally deleted your Google Account, you have a short amount of time to try and recover it:
Go to our password assistance page.
Select "I don't know my password."
Follow the steps until you see a link to verify your identity.
Click the link to fill out our form.

Canceling your Gmail address
Note: Deleting your address won’t free up your username. Once you delete your Gmail address, you won’t be able to use that same username ([email protected]) in the future.
If you decide that you don't need your Gmail address anymore, here's how you can remove Gmail from your Google Account:
Sign in to your account at accounts.google.com.
At the top, click Data tools.
In the Data Tools box, click Delete products.
Click Remove Gmail permanently.
I can’t sign in
You need to be able to sign in in order to delete your Gmail address. Click here to recover access to your account.
I am using Gmail offline
If you use Gmail offline, you'll also need to delete cookies associated with Gmail offline to remove your account completely. In Google Chrome, follow these steps:
Type chrome://settings/cookies into your address bar and press Enter.
Search for mail.google.com.
Hover over the search results and click the X that appears.
I want to retrieve my deleted account
If you delete your Gmail address but wish to have it back, we work to help you recover your deleted accounts whenever possible. However, within a few weeks' time, accounts are usually no longer retrievable. Note that a successful recovery will only recover the username associated with the account.

Hi all.
I've had just about every Galaxy flagship phone in the Samsung series and am certainly not a stranger on setting up accounts.
I have 2 hotmail.com email accounts, a business and personal. I tried setting up my personal entering details correctly and I get "authentication failed" ... Hmm, that's strange. I jump on a PC and CONFIRM the password I used was indeed correct. I tried setting up the account manually (POP3) which wasn't a problem, however the device has absolutely no interest trying to connect to my account and sync. It keeps telling me the OP3 server is not responding. Sorry Samsung, but I call bull****. It's like this any day of any week, too...
I have tried changing my password on the PC to something else. I then re-attempted the email set-up and received the same error...authentication failed. Now, google, gmail, yahoo, aol accounts (etc) ALL work fine. With absolutely NO explanation WHY this won't work and zero help from the internet or anyone else experiencing the same problem, I decide to try the OTHER hotmail account...enter the details and BOOM. It worked. So why in the blue f**king hell does ONE work and NOT the other?! Props to Samsung, they've really f*cked something up here - coz this has never been a problem on any phone I've used in the past.
Anyone have any ideas?
The device is running stock ROM and is rooted (problem also existed before root)

I had no problem adding a hotmail account. Are you trying to add them in Android's "Accounts" section, or to the Outlook app?

Like anyone does it - adding through the default email app on the phone...or settings - accounts - email - add new
Download the Exchange Services apk and install it. Reboot and then add the Hotmail account as an Exchange account in Gmail.
Do you kneed also the E-Mail APK from Google? If i install only the Exchange APK, i didnt see a additional Exchange Account in the Accounts Section of the Settings, if i try to add a new Account. Only the one which come preinstalled.

Obviously not like anyone does it, based on my question.
Have you tried getting the Outlook app and adding your accounts directly to the app rather than using the default email app and Android's account settings?

I didn't want to use additional apps, all emails in the one place only...otherwise defeats the purpose of having an all-in-one email add on a smartphone if you cannot add Hotmail, yahoo, aol (etc) in there together.

I downloaded and installedExchange APK (boomerang)? Installed, rebooted, added the account via 'accounts' under settings as an exchange email and it worked! Didn't need anything else. See below.

Hah! You champion! This actually worked. Unbelievable. I can't and even won't rack my brain trying to understand the retardation around this and the "work around" users must perform to setup a particular Hotmail/Live account. Thank you so much!

solution found for email setup (Hotmail)
I had problems setting up my Hotmail on the S6. The password it wanted was not my usual Hotmail login but an "app" password. I changed my Outlook/Hotmail password on a PC and then it sent me an email alerting me that I needed to update my "app" passwords with "fhrkdjfruofjrdlfl" (example) and then it easily connected Hotmail to my S6 using the standard email setup menus. Hope that helps somebody.

I have had this problem for the last 2 nights and on this forum, I read about signing up with outlook or samsung. I have been trying Samsung, so I downloaded the outlook app and I then had NO PROBLEM with it! I hope this helps you.
Well, I can save contacts to my phone itself, but if I try to save to my Outlook (prefered) or Google accounts, they dont save. After hitting save, it just goes back to the number as if the phone doesnt know who they are, and the contact is not in my contact list.
Tried removing and readding my Outlook account - same behaviour.
This is pretty damn bad for me - I need to be able to add clients to my phone then be able to access them from my Outlook account elsewhere. Can anyone help? It seems to be an issue other people have had over the years under different configurations from googling about, but I never see a solution.
Can anyone help?

Anyone have a solution for this? I have the same problem on my s7. I have a custom rom on it and did NOT install the stock email app. I'm running a Microsoft outlook exchange account on this gmail app (it was setup through it). My contacts, calender, and email sync fine but I can not edit my exchange contacts on my phone. Also I can not save new contacts to my exchange account from my phone. This is a big problem.
