Don't want to brick my phone like everyone else, but really want 4.4
What are some everyday changes that are actually improved? I know the Changelog, but what have YOU noticed and said "hey, thats a pretty cool improvement"?
Thanks

ive noticed a stronger LTE connection.. Touchless Control is more responsive in louder environments. I like being able to switch launchers with ease.. I go from the stock moto launcher to kit kat to nova so easily to show customers (i work for a Verizon Indirect retailer)
Overall, I'm pretty happy with the update.

- The status bar transparency (only enabled by default on the lockscreen, though Nova supports it as well) is kinda cool, but it also looks kinda dumb since Verizon made Motorola keep the icons blue istead of white for some reason.
- On the bright side, I can now see the battery percentage inside the icon at all times since it's white-on-blue instead of white-on-white like on Nexus devices.
- I like how it now displays full-screen album art on the lockscreen while music is playing (though now I'll have to put some time into higher-res artwork)
- Being able to select my launcher directly from the system settings is pretty convenient.
- The drag-to-focus update for the camera is a pretty cool.
- I enabled ART but honestly didn't notice too much a difference, and had to revert back to Dalvik due to WhatsApp being incompatible with ART.
(Minor) downsides:
- The battery icon is no longer aligned with the signal bars
- The notification icons are still blue
- No KitKat dialer (yet?)
- No camera icon with on the lockscreen

I was wondering the same thing....Battery % and "reboot" in the power menu are two big omissions.
So, do tell, how did you get a battery %.

never knew this was around. Thank you so much! You have helped make my device a better device tonight! A christmas present from XDA! woohoo!!
Just a reply, after you enable battery percentage, you can remove the app and the change stays. Seems like all Android devices 4.4 can do the percent naively, this just toggles this setting.
Wonder what other hidden settings are in KitKat.

One plus is that I lost root lol. I need it as everybody else!
I'm a Fitbit user and take a lot of pictures. For me, the update (Fitbit support and touch-to-focus) obviously makes an everyday difference.
I use MX Player while I exercise, almost every day. Immersive mode with it is nice. More apps will have to adopt this before it becomes something I really care about. The thing where the lockscreen has music art is more of a noticeable design upgrade. Together, the immersive thing, lockscreen art, and transparent notification (I actually hide mine, though) make for the beginnings of a feeling of a polished and cool UX.
The thing to do would be to get two phones next to each other, one with the update and one without, and see if the updated one really is snappier (including task switching).
EDIT - Totally forgot: The wireless charging sound respecting my volume setting as well as the volume coming back on in the morning after Assist finishes sleep mode are huge. SO glad to have those issues resolved.
Yeah, so after a ton of fear of making the move to 4.4 Completely worth it.
When it started booting back up and rooted still (YAY) 4.4 is amazing.
Gravitybox + Xtheme (nexus 5 theme), you really can't tell the difference.
Just cant wait for Xposed to support ART. every reboot switches back to Dalvik
Another downside to 4.4 if not rooted is it removes native USB OTG. Menova USB drive no longer works without 3rd party software. Kinda pissed about this one.

ART is the best thing, EVER.
Yes Xposed is no longer available to me (until the dev can make it work)
But WOW, its like my maxx just got the latest and greatest processor and a ton more ram. Performance is nutsssssss
Apps switch incredibly fast, and my battery life is even better now.
I'm gonna run benchmarks to compare

Synopsis
Okay so I am working on an app based pie that doesn't require root. It uses accessibility services to manage itself. Please don't tell me how we have so many variants of pie, if you are not a fan just move on. My long term goal is to diverge from what current variants have. I created this due to the shutdown nature of the new pie for PA 4+. I have yet to implement a lot of features. I am just throwing this out there to get both ideas and bug reports. Suggestions and requests are welcome but I promise nothing.
Current Features
Code:
- pie controls
- custom coloring
- autostart
- works in landscape and portrait
- system wide function (minus lockscreen and notification panel)
- pie custom sizing
- trigger area custom sizing (width and height)
- cm11 theme support (pulls navbar icons from the system now)
Goals (not promises)
Code:
- gravity other than bottom
- clock
- notifications
- google now/search access
- [STRIKE]custom sizing[/STRIKE] DONE
- animations
- notifications and quick toggle access (like in 4.3 version of pie)
- [STRIKE]themeable (via cm11)[/STRIKE] DONE
- per app coloring
- appstore support
- icon and slicker UI (I could use help with icon)
Bugs
Code:
- having pie up while screen lock requires reboot to end
- occasional pie gets stuck (reboot will fix)
Downloads
Code:
[URL="http://bit.ly/1jIg0xT"]Version 0.0.4a[/URL]
[URL="http://bit.ly/T0MRH8"]Version 0.0.3a[/URL]
[URL="http://bit.ly/1wghLdv"]Version 0.0.2a[/URL]
[URL="https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BxTrKYFvIq0JaklXYTJQOEd6bE0/edit?usp=sharing"]Version 0.0.1a[/URL]
Changelog
Code:
Version 0.0.4
- recoding of detection code to boost performance
- support for sound (not integrated yet)
Version 0.0.3
- quick fix to bug introduced in 0.0.2 where landscape pie wouldn't work
Version 0.0.2
- slight redesign (added gap between buttons)
- recoded pretty much everything, the old code was ugly and not modular
in order to the most basic things I would have to do a lot of coding and
going forward that is not good
- custom pie sizing, you can now choose small, medium, large
- custom trigger sizing, increase the size of the trigger if you find it too
small the only problem with this is accidental hits will be more common.
I added this last second so you need to reboot to apply (I will fix this in
the next update)
- CM11 and custom firmware theme support. It now pulls your navbar buttons
from your systemUI so it will look like your CM11 theme or touchwiz or sense
Version 0.0.1
- initial release
How to Use
Turns out a few people were confused on how to use this. Swipe up from the bottom to activate, go over the button you want to use and then release on it.

Yeah that's the goal. The only thing I would add root for is for people to hide their navbar if they have one. Otherwise all the functions I have in the app will go without root
Okay so apparently this doesnt work well with xposed enabled. Its works but its a hit and miss. Like some times registers it other times it activates google now. I will give it another try with xposed disabled.
And one more thing it doesnt seem to work in landscape. Dont know why but I shall check.
The customization features do work and they are pretty good. Simple yet powerful.
I shall keep messing around with it for more time.
EDIT:- On second try. I tried it on my note 2 and it works perfectly I think the only problem I am having is becuz main device has on screen navigation bar that's why. So if u have hardware keys u will be all right. On screen buttons might need some work.

Thanks for the feedback. Yes this is meant to replace navbar (on screen buttons). If you use gravitybox or a variety of other stuff you can hide the navbar.
Thanks again and I am working on a big update so stay tuned.
And for landscape it always puts it on the bottom of the phone so in landscape it will be on the long side down. Try that.
Subscribed, will keep an eye on this project as I'm a big fan of pie navigation.

Same issue with me. I tried it on Moto e 4.4.2 (not rooted). it doesnt have hard buttons. well i'll try a reboot i guess. but apart from "enabl/disable service" and "color" options. no other option works in settings. you probably have not made them available yet i guess since its alpha. but just reporting.
EDIT: After reboot got toast message that DBPie auto started" But nothing else happened.
Sounds interesting
This app sounds great, specially that you don't need root. But i almost don't see the purpose, at least for me because if my phone is non rooted this app would work (which at the moment it is not, have it enable but nothing happens) but to remove my on screen nav buttons i would need to be rooted. Unless I'm missing something, I've never found a way to permanently remove the nav buttons (and have the keyboard work) without having to be rooted, which at that point I would just use lmt. I look forward to the app progressing but would like a way to give the nav bar within this app and not need root. Thanks
Same problem as stated above. I have nexus 5 running 4.4.4
Well I guess apologies. Its working alright. But hard to make it appear. The space to enable it for devices having onscreen keys is bit too small ..
Have to touch edge of top border of existing onscreen keys to make it appear
Here is ss

What is the icon pack you are using?
If this would completely replace the onscreen buttons on my Moto G I would pay for the app instantly. I think the constant onscreen buttons are a waste of screen.
Can you please tell me which CM11 theme and icon pack you use? Those Settings look so gorgeous! <3

It's called flux, it's one of my favorites. It's a cm11 theme so you need a custom ROM (I use Paranoid Android)
I'm a new user to this cool looking phone. I consider myself a pro user and like to dig through xda and the likes for stuff to do with my new phones. Is there anything cool to do to/with this phone? The forum seems a little dead... I'd be forever grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction.
Let me add that thus far I find this phone a little laggy in opening and transitioning between apps/screens. Is it suggested to lower the animation rate in dev ops to speed it up? Or is touchwiz just that taxing?
maybe start with tinkering with disabling apps that aren't needed by both you and the OS.
I personally don't experience much lag except for once in a while when I press the multitasking soft button, it takes an extra second to show up. i'm not on the native launcher as well. i'm fact (being rooted), i've even deleted it.
as a phone, I think it's the perfect size. the screen real estate of the N5 is just a lot better for my eyes - I can adjust for larger text and still have room for more content. but as far as the cameras go, since they're essentially the same, I rather use my S6e because it's physically smaller in-hand. it's also easier and more comfortable to handle for those rare occasions I actually need to make phone calls.
edit: maybe try this from the Note 5 thread...

there should be enough there that still applies.

Yeah, transitions will help with the speed of course. I also just made a mod to speed them up even further. Like Soooperstar stated, realistically your best bet is to root and get a modified rom. There are currently 3 out there for the sprint version and all three are pretty snappy. If multitasking was your main concern, check out my Rom as i designed it with heavy multitasking in mind and its debloated. If you're looking for a very stock looking rom with some features then check out @ram9200 rom which has a standard and debloated version. If you like a lot of features with a stock look then check out @dazednconfused rom.

maybe i'm missing it, but there's nothing in the bonus custom settings where I could change that. is there a mod I can use to correct it?
also, is there a way to remove the hidden power button in status bar? whenever I swipe to see my notifications, my thumb naturally swipes right at the middle making me shut the screen off every time.
other than that it's been stable. I haven't used any heavy apps, but have done a lot of multitasking without a hitch. I like that I gained about ~5GB of extra storage space.
TIA

Which version are you running? The background issue was fixed in version 0.9.3. And ill see what I can do about making a mod to remove the tap to sleep clock.
The app is available on the Galaxy App's app market and works on Samsung's touchwiz android 6.0 (some say you can side load the apk on touchwiz android version 5.1 and it will still work; app won't appear on the galaxy store unless you are on android 6.0 though)
It, of course being by samsung, DOES NOT require root and can be uninstalled if you don't like it.
Just look up "Good Lock" on the samsung app store (Galaxy Apps); it will say "update" instead of download since it's an update to the System UI, and your phone should reboot.
Confirmed working on tdunham's deodexed MM rom. Should work without any issues on stock none-rooted.
Here's a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ0P1S9jom0
(pokedex animations not included )
Just tried it. Tried it for a few minutes. And uninstalled it. Too many bright colors for my taste.
Colors can be changed by going into the Good Lock settings, then selecting the routines menu and editing default. Darker colors are on the left while lighter is on the right. If only the recents menu could be changed so easily.
Also the bokeh is ****. Not only does it cause lag upon opening the drawer, but it looks incredibly ugly. It's nowhere near as well implemented as iOS and even if it was, it wouldn't fit with material design.

I was happy once I figured out I could change the color from the butt ugly purple they started me on. Now I'm back closer to the stock MM color.
Your second point, are you talking about the app drawer on the lock screen? I didn't personally like that. You can disable it, though. If you go into routine just like changing the color and at the last setting page it has a little screen with the sections for clock, notifications, and app drawer. Uncheck the app drawer and it is gone.

I was referring to the notification drawer. Though I also dislike the other areas that Samsung has shoved bokeh (blur) into, like the power menu.

You can set your own lockscreen background with Good Lock. After you install Good Lock it will change but if you go and set your lockscreen background again, it will stick.
Is it just me or while using good lock, and when you go into the recent apps and you hit clear all it doesn't clear all and it just clears apps that are visible in the recent apps menu?

The plus point i noticed in this app is , it do not require any usage or accessibility permissions.

There is a delay of 2 to 3 seconds for the app to show animation, and that can be really notable with naked eye . When I click home button it won't show animation immediately after 2,3 seconds it starts to show up.

Im currently using it.. and found that it approximately uses 110 MB of RAM which is quite large.. please try to fix it
Thank you for this item. Nice working.
Are long press functionalities still working ?
Great app ever but free overlays are very less?
Nice app. Needs some improvements.
But lags a lot in a Snapdragon 400 device with 1 GB of RAM. I'm using falcon with RR 5.8.5. Sometimes the animation gets stuck in the middle and stays there forever.
But I don't expect it to work super fluid on a device like falcon because of hardware limitation.
Pretty interesting. Trying it out now. Awesome that it doesn't need root or xposed
**(Update)**
Very sporadic on my LG V20 H918. It mainly only activates on my home button and then will play a few more times randomly without even touching the navbar.
Animations are pretty cool though. Nice & smooth and the animation speed setting is a good idea.
Definitely looking forward to this app's progression ?
Working Nice.:good:
Tesla ROM N on honor5x 2gb RAM. Will check battery.
ช
Downloaded the app and checked out the free animations, since those ones were well made I decided to buy pro. But I've noticed there's a slight delay between pressing the button and seeing the animation. Also when I switch apps by pressing the recents key twice the animation plays which looks odd. I'm not a developer but I think this app would work better with Accessibility services listening for a home button press.

There is a delay of 2 to 3 seconds for the app to show animation, and that can be really notable with naked eye . When I click home button it won't show animation immediately after 2,3 seconds it starts to show up.

The animation is played after the home button is pressed, so definitely there is very small delay which is not noticeable. A 2-3 second delay means the issue is device specific, most probably due to low RAM. I will try to minimize the existing small delay in the future updates.

Hi, its strange that the animations play randomly on your phone. However there is a small issue where you press the recents button and select an app and the animation plays, may be that is what you are talking about?
Thank you! Do stay tuned for new animations and updates.
Works really well on Pixel XL with stock Android 8.0.
Only downside - I now have two additional persistent notifications: one from the system (app running in the background) and one from the app itself.

Hi Andrew, I'll make sure to find a solution and get rid of the notifications in a future update, thanks!
UPDATE: New version EB_CD_1.4_BETA is now up on Google Play Store. Download now! Please leave a rating on Google Play Store if you try the App, your feedback is very valuable!
NOTE: The App is tested on Samsung Galaxy S9 so far, for the looks. If you have a Galaxy S8/S8+/S9+, please post some pictures as a feedback. Thanks!
Greetings! I made this special Curved Edition of Energy Bar for Galaxy S8/S9/+. Look forward to hear community feedback on this.

Many of you who have a Windows Mobile past like me, might have instantly recognized the thin colorful line(s) in the above image. And for the new Android generation, introducing Energy Bar - a pulsating Battery indicator!
Energy Bar puts a thin line on top of your Status Bar whose length corresponds to your device's current Battery level.
Got a full charge? The line will cover the whole width of your screen.
Battery depleting? So will the length of Energy Bar.
After several iterations (thank you for the feedback, early testers), the App is now feature packed:
Energy Bar can be configured from a width of 1 pixel to cover the entire status bar
Energy Bar puts almost 0% load on CPU, as it wakes up only to reflect any change in battery level
Energy Bar's origin can be configured as left/center/right
Energy Bar can hide on fullscreen content (apps, videos, images, games etc)
Energy Bar can be configured to change colors automatically depending on the live battery level
Energy Bar could have a mono color/multiple color segments/gradient
You can literally assign any color in the world for your favorite configuration
Energy Bar as a cool pulsating animation whenever a power source is plugged into your device
There is something about visual over numbers that keeps you and your device's battery level in sync with just a glance. You may find it intuitive/effective/stylish way to read the battery level, let me know what you think

You're welcome! If possible could you post a photo of your phone with Energy Bar active? I am yet to see Energy Bar live on a Galaxy S9+
This is now at 88%
It works so far.
Thanks for this!! I used to love having this app on my s7e, but somehow forgot about it so I had to buy the full version..
Here's some s9+action with it in play
Sry for the double post, but thought I'd add another picture but in landscape and also a link for anyone that wants to see the bounce animation option, thought it is pretty cool..
It would be nice to have this implemented on AOD.

that would cause screen burn-in. Not a good idea.

Definitely an issue if it is an overlay like the app operates but if it was implemented such as the AOD, then it shouldn't be an issue since it's constantly moving around.. But having an overlay over the lockscreen, which I don't think you'd be able to do cause security, would definitely cause burn in with the same pixels being on at literally all times..
What's the impact this app has on the battery life?
Minimal impact

I agree, there are 2 issues:
#1 Displaying Energy Bar while using the phone is one thing, but displaying 24/7 (through AOD) definitely doesn't sound like a good idea, due to potential burn in.
#2 The latest versions of Android doesn't allow any overlay App to be displayed over the system elements like Lockscreen, Status Bar, Nav Bar. Further, Samsung's AOD doesn't seem to allow 3rd party to display, if I were to show Energy Bar on AOD, I would have to make my own AOD implementation.

It should have close to 0% impact. Please check the battery report of System after using for several hours. If it's not close to 0% then I would consider it as an issue, please report.
UPDATE: What's new?
EB_CD_1.2_BETA:
* Adjusted the curve at left corner by 1 pixel, because every pixel matters!
* Fixed issues with 'Status Bar' mode - portrait to landscape switching/auto-hides.
EB_CD_1.2.1_BETA:
* Minor Bug fixes
Hey Guys! If you try the App, please leave a review on Google Play Store, it will be really helpful, thanks!

Looks pretty, especially because of the color combination you chose.
@jagan2 Thanks for the new version. its awesome.
I do have a problem with the overlay in this app though. in some other apps, the screen doesnt register anymore when i press it. when i disable engergy bar it registers my input again. an example is gsam battery bar asking for root. im unable to press exept unless i disable the energy bar.
There were other cases with other apps in the past as well, but i forgot which exactly. I have tried another app like yours powerbar which didnt have this problem, so im hoping you might be able to resolve this problem, as i do prefer energy bar.

You're welcome!
So as far as the overlay issue is concerned, during request of permissions all Overlays should be automatically disabled (doesn't happen on S9+ ?.) Could you give me an example of another instance where the input was not accepted ?
Also, please try the standard version of Energy Bar and report me if the same issues exists? If it doesn't, with that version, pretty sure I can release an instant update.

yes i have been having the same problem with the standard version. on a S7 edge mind you. so its not exclusivly to s9+
about other apps, i think it might be lastpass but im not sure. if i run into it again ill let you know.
i hope maybe others run into this problem as well, so you might get a idea.
So far so good, pretty sweet! The only issue I had was I downloaded the wrong version and have donated twice through both apps
