Greetings,
I have my nexus 5 rooted and I accidentally performed the 4.4.2 update OTA, which of course didn't work. But when I tried to flash the update, I couldn't get into recovery. The android guy is lying on its back with an exclamation mark in its belly saying: no command. I think it might have anything to do with the accidental OTA installation.
Can anyone help me?
Do you still have root? If so download either ROM manager or TWRP manager and install a recovery

Ah, no, seems I have lost root. Strange, how do I get root back?
Re root your phone. Your bootloader should already be unlocked so you wont lose any data

Ok thanks! Will I also retain my data when I use the CF-auto-root method?
Yes

I own a rooted Nexus 5 with KitKat 4.4.2. Yesterday the N5 "saw" the 4.4.3 update, so I've downloaded it and then installed it, but while the phone was rebooting after the installation, it displayed the dead android logo with an error message. I've shut it down and reboot the phone but it is still running the 4.4.2 instead of the 4.4.3 and it doesn't receive the new update again. What can I do?
Download a rooted version of the 4.4.3 Stock ROM from here on XDA.

What's the error message? Did you previouslt root the phone on 4.4.2 by yourself or did you buy it which is already rooted?

I rooted it by myself on KitKat 4.4.2.
what system mods did you make? this includes kernels and any changes to ANY file in the /system directory.
Download Vomers rom and flash it. Its stock 4.4.3. That's what I did and its running smoothly.

[Q] in title most definitely means this should be in q&a and not general.
The reason it failed is because you weren't stock (kernel, recovery, all system apps, no xposed framework). You need all of those to flash ota.
Like posted above, download @vomer's 4.4.3 ROM and flash it. It's the same thing. I ran it for a week and its golden

I had the same problem and the only "mod" I did was the tethering mod where I added the tether_dun_required 0 change to the settings.db file
Would that be the reason why mine failed? I unlocked bootloader, rooted STOCK.

Thanks. Then I am really stumped on why my update failed.
Is the recovery stock?

Yes
Would probably need to know the error message to further troubleshoot the issue.
If you want root after an OTA, you have to fastboot flash a custom recovery then flash the superSU zip to root, so as suggested you may aswell fastboot flash recovery then recovery flash the stock rooted rom already mentioned. Actually fewer steps doing that.

Yesterday I managed to press install on the newest update, 4.4.4 on my Nexus 5. It was rooted and still is, but by installing this OTA it somehow made it crash. Now that I try to get into recovery mode I just get the android which is dead with an ! on it. It was rooted with Xposed and TWRP.
What do I do? Im on a Mac
OTA removed root replaces recovery. I'm amazed it managed to replace recovery whilst Xposed was installed. Anyway, seems like it did.
You must fastboot flash a custom recovery

The same really. Install fastboot and use the "fastboot flash recovery /pathto/your/recovery.img" command

I did this and now Im stuck in a TWRP loop, wont get into the system. I dont know what to do now, any inputs?
EDIT: Solved it. Thanks!
So the situation is that I used towelroot to obtain root, installed SuperSU and then used TWRP Manager to install TWRP.
I found I really didn't use root as much as I thought I would and I would just like to go back to stock.
I see that I can unroot from within SuperSU, but I can't find a way to get the stock recovery back. I tried Flashify and Rashr with the stock recovery and it doesn't seem to take. I end up with the green android on its side with the red triangle. I can't flash it through fastboot because my bootloader is locked.
Is there a way to get back to stock recovery without losing my data? That's the reason I used towelroot in the first place.
Thanks!
Green android and triangle is stock recovery

Oh wow easy enough answer. I was googling with that and the responses said that it meant that I had no recovery anymore. Didn't want to risk it.
Chalk that up to PEBKAC!
Thanks!
No probs

Whenever superSu asks for permission to run a root app my screen becomes unresponsive. Timer runs out and i am not able to apply grant permission. Help. This didnt use to happen when i was earlier rooted with towelroot. Right now also i ised towelroot
Have you tried re-flashing the supersu zip?

Yes. Didnt work.
Btw by reflash the zip file you mean reinstall it from pkay store, right?
Pardon the ignorance. Just found out that flashing a zip file and installing apps from play store are 2 different things.
Well my bootloader is locked and neither do i have a custom recovery installed. So flashing doesnt seem to be an option right now.. If i am not missing anything.
Are you running 5.0? If so how the heck did you root with towelroot? AFAIK you can not root 5.0 that way. Maybe that is a problem.

No no. I am on kitkat only
Tried reinstalling it. This is what came up. I am on android 4.4.4 btw
You need to flash the supersu zip using fastboot:
teamandroid. com/2014/06/19/root-nexus-5-android-444-ktu84p-kitkat/2/ (you're going to have to fix that link because I have under 10 posts so the forum won't let me post..)
Additionally you need to have an unlocked bootloader

Why is it happening now? Didnt use to happen earlier..
You say you were rooted ...why did you re-root? It looks like you are no longer rooted. Did you do an update or anything?

To get root again either flash the latest CF Auto Root in fastboot or flash the latest superSU.zip in recovery or flash a pre-rooted custom rom in a custom recovery.
Hi. After flashing my N5 from android 5.0.1 to 5.1 i lost root on my phone. Ive tried flashing the SU apk in recovery mode but it doesnt work. Bootloader is still unlocked and i had been using franco kernal, before i lost root access. Any ideas how i could get root back?
More info needed. What do you mean it didnt work? Did you relash twrp after you updated? That might be your problem right there.

Download and flash in a custom recovery. Use TWRP if you aren't already.
