before you do anything is this for a phone on the 4.3 ota or a phone going to the ota?
keep in mind if it is on the ota this file will brick the phone. if your going to the ota keep in mind there is a dangerous root that can brick it and there is little to no hope for a boot loader unlock as this phone is almost 3 years old now and the ota is likely the last update it will receive from samsung so if you wish to go to 4.4 based roms that will be impossible if on the ota...

I have NOT taken the ota, nor do I want to, and am still on rooted 4.1.2 with CWM. SDM is frozen. The file you have linked is what I believe to be the easiest way for me to return to 4.1.2 stock via ODIN. All the older ODIN files would require taking OTAs to get back to 4.1.2 and even though I don't think VZW does skip OTAs I'd rather not be taking OTAs at all.
So am I correct in that this file is a one shot ODIN to get back to stock 4.1.2 directly? After which I'd root and still be "free" to do what I want with MY PHONE!!!

If you unzip the file, it should be at least a 1 GB tar (or tar.md5) that you flash in Odin.
Edit: It's compressed, that's why it's a zip. Usually stock image tar files, when compressed, are about 700-800 MB.

If you go to the ota you will be giving up any custom ROMs possibly permanently I would recommend waiting for a custom version of the it's with Knox stripped out. The ota also seems to be buggy from what I read.
You are not liking liquid try hellfire 4.4.2 it is just as fast as the mf1 tw ROM and I have yet to find a bug or issue.

I just got phone yesterday and it's on 4.1.2 vrbmf1. All I want to do is root the phone so I can freeze sdm so I dont' get updated. Can anyone help me? I tried every possible method on every forum and none work for my phone.

[Q] Reverting to i535VRLG7

Updated my phone to the latest ROM over OTA. Since then, my gps takes forever to get a lock and even then, loses GPS connection frequently. Anyways, I'd like to downgrade my phone to that version. In the meantime I'll root this phone and try out the new jelly bean ROM.
So the question is, does anyone know where I can get a download of that specific ROM?

Preferably cloclwork but odin will do. So far, I can only find the radio packages only. I'd like the entire ROM since this is affecting GPS.

there are no full packages of stock roms for clockwork. The closest you can get would CleanRom by scrosler which runs amazingly smooth. If not, then you would have to go to invisiblek's goo.im account. he has the full odin flashable packages
1 - if you are rooted, you should not take any ota updates. Potentially this can brick your phone.
2 - for different modem builds, just download whichever version youd like (rootzwiki) and flash.
3 - for return to stock roms (unrooted), well, just follow one of the how-to sticky threads in the forum. Once youre back to stock then can receive ota without problems
download gps fix from playstore.

Taking a OTA when rooted will not brick the phone at all, you will just lose your root and will have to redo it. If you wanna go back to pure stock you can follow droidsytles post in section 6 and odin back to G1 then ota upto G7. Its really simple the way droidstyle explains it and only takes about 8 mins give or take.

Odin back to stock after rooting with OTA

How can I use Odin to go back to factory stock? I received the OTA for 4.1 JB and then rooted but now need to go back to stock. What is the safest way to do this? Can I just flash the latest build in Odin

Use the proper PIT file w/ Odin.
16GB SIII- http://invisiblek.chickenkiller.com/pits/sch-i535-16gb.pit
32GB SIII- http://invisiblek.chickenkiller.com/pits/sch-i535-32gb.pit
Then use this image where it says, "PDA."
http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/...535VZWALG1_743127_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.zip
This will bring you back to stock ICS with a locked bootloader, then check for updates under settings.

DON'T DO THIS!
Follow section 5 of the guide linked below. There is no need for the pit files and that isn't the latest stock ROM, but I'm confused if you took the ota your sick already.

I'm helping him out you're giving him out dated firmware and unnecessary flashing that just leaves more chance for error. To restore to stock is a simple one file flash there is no need for pit or using old stuff and taking the ota again. But OP do whatever you want

Not sure what you're saying. Everybody else is running BLK3 JB, but like I said y'all do what you want. I'm a fan of as little steps as possible to eliminate errors and everybody I've helped un brick their phone have followed that guide I just linked with zero problems. Actually you're the first person I've seen recommend the pit except in my old droid charge.

If you are trying to stay stock then use this Jelly Bean image like the person above mentioned. I found it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2035321
If you are going to ROOT again then use what I told you above (its ICS.) Then use this software to root your device. (Dont take the JB OTA.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342
Rooting ICS is quicker then JB. Lol.

ICS is easier to root for sure!
To the op If you just want to un root and that's all you did was root then go into the super su app and under settings there is a full unroot option.
By the way still don't need the pit that link I posted had the latest ICS build as well.
Hey Supra that link you gave is correct, but I would recommend using droid styles n the future because it gives steps. So when helping new people they will have full proof step by step instructions. By the way I really how you actually own a Supra... That's one had ride!
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!
Sorry guy, didnt know there was a JB Odin image at first. I always use a PIT when reverting back to stock, look at the link you posted.

"Pit file - This is a type of file used with Odin when returning your phone to stock. There is a "Pit" button on Odin you can push to enter the pit file you wish to use. An example of a pit file that you will probably use is Atlas_v2.2.pit. To return to stock, you would use a pit file along with a stock ROM, putting both into Odin at the same time. Droidstyle's guide provides detailed instructions."
Lol, I dont own a Supra but I'm a huge fan and known a couple people with built ones pushing over 1000HP. Its just WAY to expensive. I'd rather buy the 2JZGTE engine and drop it into another car. Supra power .

update to 4.3 unsuccessful ?

i updated my verizon Galaxy S3 (I535) today, and forgot to unroot it so expectedly i go the "unsuccessful" update, but it did update, i have the changes. but i cannot get into supersu so i cannot unroot my phone (never really used the rooting anyways)
is there anyway to unroot my phone atm? and/or to make sure i have the entire update?
(wasnt really expecting to get the update at all with a rooted phone)
also i cannot get into supersu cause my phone is still recongnized as 4.3 instead of 4.1.2
...not really sure what to do
Hmm, well you can root using SafeRoot according to multiple users in our general TW 4.3 thread.
Maybe you can unroot after you root using that but there's no way to downgrade or Odin flash a ML1 tar unless we see one published in the near future. If you unroot after rooting then you could probably try installing the TW 4.3 update.zip in recovery but there's no guarantees it'll work and if it messes up, you're SOL until further notice.
Edit: so its clear, you can ONLY root. Flashing roms is not possible or recommended as of this moment if on TW 4.3

Nah, you'll have a hardbricked phone with seemingly no way to fix it if you attempt to downgrade. If/when VRUCML1 stock tar file is posted then you could flash that in Odin. What you'll need is something specifically for TW 4.3 whether that's root, root/unlock, or Odin. Nothing older is compatible.

Questions about flashing 4.4 ROM. Coming from 4.1 Please help!

So like the title says I have been out of the ROM game for a little bit. Every couple of months I check in and see whats new and flash something else.
I was on the Jelly Beans ROM (Build 16 I think) and Android 4.1. I did some searching last night as was going to try flashing Gummy ROM…bad idea. I am guessing I needed something prior to jumping up to a 4.4 base. I booted to recovery and wiped everything and tried to flash with no luck. So the phone would not boot and I could only get into recovery and download mode. I did not have my micro SD adapter in order to get jelly beans back on it to flash so I ended up having to use odin to flash a stock rooted 4.1 image. Finally got everything back up and running but I still want to try some of the 4.4 ROMs. So what exactly do I need first in order to flash one? (Modem maybe)…if you know for sure why that happened and what I need to do please let me know. Thanks!
My Current "About Phone" Info...
Android Version - 4.1.2
Baseband version - I535VRBMB1
Jelly Beans - Build 20
P.S. I have tried doing the research and nothing I have found has been clear but one thing I came across is the official 4.3 update was bad news and broke the root methods? So should I stay away from 4.3 ROMs and is the old root method blocked in 4.4 as well or is that a different case since it wasn't actually released for our phone. If that makes sense lol

Can't tell you exactly why that happened, but it shouldve worked.
You're right though, stay away from the stock Ota 4.3 update. I'm happy you read first because so many people don't. My guess is your firmware was a little too old. Try to flash the mf1 firmware aio and then try gummy.
To be clear, you can still use any custom rom, even the 4.3 ones, just stay away from the stock rom or anything having to do with 4.3 ML1 firmware

Thanks for the quick reply. What do you mean try to flash the MF1 firmware...does that mean a 4.2 ROM?

Yes you can interchange between both of them if you want to.
So go here, read all of the details, and just follow his recommendation:

Also don't double post, modify your post in the development section and put "wrong section, mod please delete".

The reason I have so confused is cause of the link you sent. I read that before and it says..
"You should NOT flash the I535VRUCML1 firmware (or any subsequent releases for that matter). You will brick. This is what vzw/samsung did on the first OTA for the Galaxy S4. They changed the keys they sign the firmware with. This prevents us from 'mis-matching' our firmware like we've been doing all along. We've been leaving aboot (VRUAME6, the african-canadian sock-monkey leaked bootloader) alone and updating everything else. Since they're signing with different keys now, doing this will brick your device. If you update the ENTIRE bootchain (including aboot) you shouldn't brick, but will be stuck with a locked bootloader and any attempt to downgrade (via dd, etc) will brick you as well."
Like i said I have been out for a while and lost track of what firmwares came out and the order of them and which I need to be on to flash a 4.4 ROM. Someone else told me the only reason my first flash failed was because my recovery was older
***EDIT****

I see, that actually makes perfect sense.
I think I read you were on the mb1 firmware, that's new enough to not cause problems.
Basically you can't get the ml1 firmware from that thread I linked you. The only ml1 file available is the modem, and that's perfectly safe to flash.

You're close, firmware is completely independent from rom. You can flash any 4.3, 4.4, or 4.1 rom without changing your firmware.
Right now you can flash mf1 aio package, then ml1 modem, or just flash the ml1 modem over your current mb1 firmware.
Basically you aren't required to be on a specific rom build in order to use a specific modem.
Edit: I think you have the right idea, flash any rom you want, then the mf1 aio package, then the ml1 modem. Your firmware sequence is correct.

ah ok...idk why I was thinking the firmware was what the ROMs were based from....so either way ML1 firmware sucks and I stay away...I guess my last questions are...what would be an advantage of going to the MF1 firmware...
and I always used clockworkmod recovery...do you know the option available now? and maybe some features of each

[FIRMWARE] VRUDNE1 (Android 4.4.2 - Kit Kat) No-Wipe Factory Image

WARNING: I am posting this for development purposes only (and for those of you already on the new locked bootloader)!
If you have an unlocked bootloader or are still on MF1 firmware, DO NOT flash this in ODIN or you will be permanently locked down to the new bootloader with no way of going back!
Those of you who know how to work with this file feel free to use it as you see fit. Otherwise, consider yourself warned!

First!
Hairiest chest?
Can't wait till you guys crack this open for us unlocked folks!
i need to send my phone back into verizon. if i odin this i will be cool right?
Cannot wait for baseband update, hopefully it will be pulled separate soon.
So what does no-wipe mean?
Currently I am on NC1. If I want to odin to NE1 with fresh start, will this no-wipe affect in anyway?
You couldn't just flash the system and kernel partitions?

Means it is exactly the same as OTA. Does not wipe data. No difference flashing it and letting Verizon update it except Odin will unroot for you. Must unroot or hide root to take OTA.

Won't boot with 4.3 firmware. It all or nothing for now or we would already have it fixed in dump thread.
Worked like a charm! Now I'll wait and see how to root this baby. I already had the locked bootloader so figured I didn't have anything to lose. Thanks!

Towelroot works.
Is there a version of this with an unlocked bootloader? I currently am running my S3 rooted and unlocked with 4.1.2. Do I need to run a ROM instead - and if so is there one that is stock 4.4.2 with an unlocked bootloader?

They are currently at Work our beloved developers trying to bring us a rooted touch wiz version for those with unlocked bootloader in tact and the very first of it's kind I might add. Do not flash this if your bootloader is of value and be patient as the very best of the best of developers are collaborating to bring it to us.

Thanks - I have patience and definitely planning on waiting. That's why I still have an unlocked bootloader

Sounds like you borked your radios. Or your APN is missing. Only thing can do is run that tar. Can try running Verizon Software Updater in repair mode. It will wipe and then flash tar. If don't fix have to get new device from Verizon.

Make sure you are in Global mode before try any of this. If go with Software updater it is going to update you to 4.4.2. Not sure if can stop after repair or not. If that 4.3 tar in odin don't fix this is about only option I know of. Since bootloader is locked cannot use the fixes we have for this problem.

Is it safe to flash the modem only, in recovery, with existing mf1 firmware?
Thanks.

I am on MF1 rooted and unlocked but I have had the phone since it's release and have no interest in installing AOSP ROMs. I do need root because I have to be able to use root explorer or similar so I can edit the "keys" system files to disable the "WAKE" function of the home key. I keep my phone in my back pocket and it constantly turns on if the home key has wake enabled.
Before I flash this I wanted to confirm that flashing this No-Wipe Factory Image with Odin, I can root with Towelroot and install Root Explorer? Would I also be able to install TW based ROMs like a new Clean Rom if Scott gets one figured out? Would I also be able to create nandroids using Clockwork or TWRP?
Lastly, Since my most recent install of CR 8.2 my phone's behavior has been a bit sketchy (random reboots, laggy, etc). I assume if I flash this stock image it should return my phone to whatever level of performance "stock" yields, without any of my current, likely self imposed, performance issues?
I have never had a phone this long and expect I'll get a new one whenever there really is a "next big thing", but I don't think we're there yet.
Thanks in advance.
Going back to stock
So, if I want to go back to stock, this is the way?
I'm on beanstalked / MF1 rooted and unlocked of course. But I'd like to get the phone back to stock condition so I can sell it here soon.
