Odin back to stock after rooting with OTA - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

How can I use Odin to go back to factory stock? I received the OTA for 4.1 JB and then rooted but now need to go back to stock. What is the safest way to do this? Can I just flash the latest build in Odin

Use the proper PIT file w/ Odin.
16GB SIII- http://invisiblek.chickenkiller.com/pits/sch-i535-16gb.pit
32GB SIII- http://invisiblek.chickenkiller.com/pits/sch-i535-32gb.pit
Then use this image where it says, "PDA."
http://goo.im/devs/invisiblek/i535/...535VZWALG1_743127_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.zip
This will bring you back to stock ICS with a locked bootloader, then check for updates under settings.

DON'T DO THIS!
Follow section 5 of the guide linked below. There is no need for the pit files and that isn't the latest stock ROM, but I'm confused if you took the ota your sick already.

I'm helping him out you're giving him out dated firmware and unnecessary flashing that just leaves more chance for error. To restore to stock is a simple one file flash there is no need for pit or using old stuff and taking the ota again. But OP do whatever you want

Not sure what you're saying. Everybody else is running BLK3 JB, but like I said y'all do what you want. I'm a fan of as little steps as possible to eliminate errors and everybody I've helped un brick their phone have followed that guide I just linked with zero problems. Actually you're the first person I've seen recommend the pit except in my old droid charge.

If you are trying to stay stock then use this Jelly Bean image like the person above mentioned. I found it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2035321
If you are going to ROOT again then use what I told you above (its ICS.) Then use this software to root your device. (Dont take the JB OTA.) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792342
Rooting ICS is quicker then JB. Lol.

ICS is easier to root for sure!
To the op If you just want to un root and that's all you did was root then go into the super su app and under settings there is a full unroot option.
By the way still don't need the pit that link I posted had the latest ICS build as well.
Hey Supra that link you gave is correct, but I would recommend using droid styles n the future because it gives steps. So when helping new people they will have full proof step by step instructions. By the way I really how you actually own a Supra... That's one had ride!
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!

Sorry guy, didnt know there was a JB Odin image at first. I always use a PIT when reverting back to stock, look at the link you posted.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=28530394
"Pit file - This is a type of file used with Odin when returning your phone to stock. There is a "Pit" button on Odin you can push to enter the pit file you wish to use. An example of a pit file that you will probably use is Atlas_v2.2.pit. To return to stock, you would use a pit file along with a stock ROM, putting both into Odin at the same time. Droidstyle's guide provides detailed instructions."
Lol, I dont own a Supra but I'm a huge fan and known a couple people with built ones pushing over 1000HP. Its just WAY to expensive. I'd rather buy the 2JZGTE engine and drop it into another car. Supra power .

[Q] Flashing Back To Stock With JVB *BUILD 1010*

Hey guys I am currently running Hamsterbread with X'Cals latest kernel.
And I have been reading everywhere that for flashing back to stock YOU MUST use Odin One CLick and if you use the 3-Button Fixed Odin you will brick you phone for good.
If I am a build 1010 and cannot use Odin One Click do y'all think this method would work:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10056254&postcount=36
Any Help will be GREATLY appreciated.
The only thing that could possibly happen to a later build phone using that odin one click is you will lose the 3 button combo (MAYBE) I flash and mod 3 captivates, 1 is a 1010 the other 2 are 1012 I have never used anything other than the one click to flash to stock, never even lost the button combo on ANY of those. But if you do lose the combo just use the odin with the button fix after you use the normal one.
The one with the button combo doesn't contain the second bootloader, so if you use that to go back to eclair from gb, you will have 2 incompatible bootloaders resulting in an unfixable BRICK. The normal one click contains BOTH bootloaders that is why you need to use it. But like I said once you are back on eclair and IF you have lost the button combo then you can use the other odin to get the combo back but only AFTER using the normal one click.
I don't know if that version of odin you posted contains both bootloaders so I personally wouldnt try it because of the reason I stated earlier.

I just hear stories about Build 1010's and up who flash back to stock using Odin One Click and then they get a soft brick where the device flashes the AT&T screen then turns off.
Luckily i have a jig but I still dont really know what to do.

First: no such thing as a "soft brick" that's a stupid name and it confuses people ... There is one kind of brick. When the phone does exactly the same as a brick. Nothing.
If you get a bootloop after using the one click I'm pretty sure the boot loaders have been flashed successfully (not 100% sure about that so wait for someone else to confirm/deny) in which case you could use another odin to recover from that.
If you weren't sure about how to return you really shouldn't have upgraded. As the deving for gingerbread is still in it's infancy. And might not be suited for daily use yet.
If you're still worried about all of it then just stay on gb and the devs will catch up and you will have more of options for roms/kernels, and maybe another way for later build phones to flash to stock with out the one click...

I flashed GB when X'Cal released his beta and I was testing for him it is recently though that people are saying that you cannot use anything but Odin One Click. And I know what I am doing in regards to flashing Gingerbread and the kernels and such so thats why I upgraded.
I will try Odin One-Click if I ever need too, but if someone can confirm or deny the fact that if you get in a bootloop after flashing Odin One-Click the Bootloaders successfuly flashed?
I would guess thats correct and then Id just use my normal method and Jig it into Download mode.
Thanks again though.
Try and go look around samfirmware.com
and see if you you can't find the .pit flies that contain both bootloaders they should have every odin file. and use the full version of odin with the other corresponding files needed.

Alright thanks so much.
And and we are looking for a pit file with both bootloaders?
And if we find one just use regular Odin and use the .pit file we find and like a JH6 or JH2.tar file for PDA.
One last thing although there is nothing wrong and I do have a jig, you think I should try flashing Odin One Click and see what happens? : D. I dont want too because my set up currently is un real haha.
I do not think odin one click is wise, it only flashes secondary boot loader not primary. If you use it worth out chanting the primary back you will have non matching primary and secondary boot loaders. Nothing good can come of that
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
the pit file has nothing to do with the bootloaders. the bootloaders are in the .tar file which is inside the zip files on samfirmware.com
the pit file is for repartitioning, probably not needed, but probably worth doing just in case

[ROM] [CWM] [EC05] [EI22] Stock Heimdall Packages

Please see this new thread for up to date packages.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584346
DISCLAIMER:
The whole point of putting out Heimdall packages is to make flashing safer, faster and easier but please use some common sense and read before you wildly click on stuff. No one listed in this OP nor myself, God, Satan or any other being (Supreme deity or not) is responsible for what you do with these files. If you brick something, you did it, so man up and own your mistakes (and hopefully learn from them).
Epic Heimdall Packages:
The title should be self explanatory. Use these with Heimdall to flash your Epic back to stock or to flash CWM recovery. Do NOT re-partition unless you have an absolute good reason to (Like coming back from MTD and you know EXACTLY what you are doing). 99% of the time you will NOT need to re-partition.
Thanks to:
Nubecoder for putting these packages together
Drockstar and Rodderik for putting the purple CWM 3.1.0.1 together
Rodderik for hosting the devphone.org (Primary site and file mirror)
All I did was xfer some files and host the unlimited download server (files.devphone.org).

Big thanks to insanity213 for hosting the files for me (would cause too much BW on my server).
Now everyone can stop using Odin!!!
NOTE:: The EI22 package does not include the ei22 modem.
Also, there are no bootloaders in these packages, so I do not think you should ever re-partition with these.

I never could get heimdal to recognize the epic when plugged into my imac although I haven't tried with lion. Supposedly this there was a secondary boot loader bug that got fixed on most galaxy s variants with froyo but we epic owners never got it. Works great on my PC though.

The bootloaders are not contained in these packages.
I doubt your bootloaders have been changed though, to my understanding they haven't changed in a while (or ever).
The only other thing would be the modem...
I need to add the EC05 modem to the EI22 package, so it is a nice and easy to flash the delta update zip in cwm to get updated.

Thank you for this. I finally got around to un-rooting / returning my wife's phone to stock. Now I can take it into the Sprint store. This should be the default method to return rooted phone to stock in the wiki, as it is quite easy if you follow the Heimdall instructions.
Can this be used to go back to BML from MTD instead of Odin? I'm guessing not since we can't repartition but wanted to make sure.

[Q] Unrooting Problem

I tried to unroot my sgh-i727 Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket back to stock setting. I downloaded and unzipped ODIN as well as the stock tar file. Everything ran fine, or so it seemed. Now it seems that every app that has anything to do with google force closes and I get an error message. Then same goes for when I hit my phone button to try to make a call. I get the same error message. I'm a noob here so any help would be greatly appreciated.

The one in the XDA link I posted also flashes the radio (I've used it several times). Maybe just a little extra bloat from Sammy on the other one?
I'd say use the one from sammobile first, of course, I'm just curious if there's a real difference.
I'm trying the radio flash now I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thank You!
Heres another question while I'm waiting on this download. Is the skyrocket upgradeable to 4.0 ICS yet? If not what android version is the most up to date?
When I flash roms via ODIN will the process always be the same? By that I mean taking out the battery then replacing it. Hold down the volume buttons and then plugging the phone into the computer?

Yup. I don't bother with the battery though, or the usb plug in, I just restart the phone by holding the power button > 10 secs, and when it vibrates quickly hold the volume buttons, and it goes into download confirm mode. Then i plug in the usb and press up to confirm, and presto.
ok so i tried reflashing the radio and that didn't work. I'm probably messing something up. Heres what I'm doing for you guys to let me know what I'm doing wrong.
I opened ODIN and the only thing check marked is Auto Reboot.
After that I opened the the stock tar file (SGH-I727-UCKJ2-k0nane.tar) under PDA then I started the reboot. That got everything back to normal besides alot of apps force closing to include not being able to make calls. After that I flashed the HOME_SGH-I727user_CL626051_REV02.tar.md5 file under PDA for the radio. I'm a super noob so can someone break it down Barney style for me PLEASE? You guys are awesome by the way!!!
I still think the fc's are a radio issue. Flash this first, method 3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1611796
Both of these include the radio, but vary in size. The first one is 250mb while the second is 315:

This one is the complete firmware image from samsung, but you have to sign up to download:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=SGH-I727&r=5
When I open up ODIN do I flash everything through PDA one at a time? What are the other options for i.e. bootloader, phone, csc?
U need to flash cwm through odin:

Then you have to flash the first link i posted through cwm. As for the second and third, they are the same thing. You pick, based on the descriptions i used. The second one you flash through cwm, the third one is an ODIN flash.
doesn't it have to be a .tar file through ODIN?
It is a tar, flash the clockwork mod file u downloaded. It may be zipped, you might have to extract it
If it prompts you for a password when unzipping the downloaded file for the stock firmware, try sampro.pl
EDIT: It will likely have a file extension of .tar.md5. This is fine. Just put it in the pda slot. Do not put anything in any other slot. DO NOT CHECK REPARTITION. Only Auto-Reboot should be checked.

Heres another question while I'm waiting on this download. Is the skyrocket upgradeable to 4.0 ICS yet? If not what android version is the most up to date?

Ha!!! I kind of just ignored that post--wasn't feeling like getting all trolly today. My mood may change however...

The one in the XDA link I posted also flashes the radio (I've used it several times). Maybe just a little extra bloat from Sammy on the other one?
I'd say use the one from sammobile first, of course, I'm just curious if there's a real difference.

It is the complete official tar. It has everything, untouched, just how it comes from the factory. It is official and does not trip the counter
If you are downloading the rogers version, this should be the password

[Q] need help going back to gingerbread from the oneclick ics

I just flashed the one click ics leak. it worked okay, but it wasnt stable enough for me. So i want to go back to Gingerbread and wait for the official release. Im new to this rooting stuff. This was actually my first time doing it. So if someone could give me step by step directions ide greatly appreciate it. Im not stupid but i am new. I tried one way on getting back to stock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348 it worked but it wouldnt let me update to 3.6 for one and two it tripped my flash counter !!!! so now im screwed on my warranty. Look, all i want is to go back to stock. please help me guys. Step by step and links please. thanks.
Did you Odin the original recovery? Or do you still have CWM? If you still have CWM you can use the file from this link to reset your flash counter. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1575712

This is what happens when you don't read and just start flashing away with the first thing you can find. I wanna help, but I almost feel like I shouldn't. I mean, if you just read the stickies you would know how to fix this.
If u look through the threads I believe Konane has a thread for returning to stock..but there is a way..not sure of the exact step order but using Odin flash stock tar file then the reset flash count...then the stock recovery..I'll look to see if I can find a link.

what?
i didnt start flashing away. i backed out of rooting 5 times before i did it because i COMPLETLY sure on what i was doing. and i already did the konan tutorial and yes it does work. but it wont let you get at&t updates. and thats a big problem. from what i was reading about konan's tar is that it wasnt a official stock gingerbread. i went to sammobile to get the official stock file. and i did but the file is in MD5 format and i wasnt sure if i could just put that in odin under pda and go about or not. you guys know? but i DID do sooo much reading and researching before i rooted. thanks guys i really appreciate it. you have no idea

Yes you can, sammobile is complete. Just extract from the zip and flash in odin
I had to install cwm to my device after flashing back to stock and flash the uckk1 radio and use the reset flash counter zip. Then I flashed stock cwm in Odin rebooted and was able to receive the update to 2.3.6. Which breaks wallpaper scrolling. My only grip about it.
Just flash the stock radio that will solve your problem of not receiving ota updates.

before you do anything is this for a phone on the 4.3 ota or a phone going to the ota?
keep in mind if it is on the ota this file will brick the phone. if your going to the ota keep in mind there is a dangerous root that can brick it and there is little to no hope for a boot loader unlock as this phone is almost 3 years old now and the ota is likely the last update it will receive from samsung so if you wish to go to 4.4 based roms that will be impossible if on the ota...

I have NOT taken the ota, nor do I want to, and am still on rooted 4.1.2 with CWM. SDM is frozen. The file you have linked is what I believe to be the easiest way for me to return to 4.1.2 stock via ODIN. All the older ODIN files would require taking OTAs to get back to 4.1.2 and even though I don't think VZW does skip OTAs I'd rather not be taking OTAs at all.
So am I correct in that this file is a one shot ODIN to get back to stock 4.1.2 directly? After which I'd root and still be "free" to do what I want with MY PHONE!!!

If you unzip the file, it should be at least a 1 GB tar (or tar.md5) that you flash in Odin.
Edit: It's compressed, that's why it's a zip. Usually stock image tar files, when compressed, are about 700-800 MB.
If you go to the ota you will be giving up any custom ROMs possibly permanently I would recommend waiting for a custom version of the it's with Knox stripped out. The ota also seems to be buggy from what I read.
You are not liking liquid try hellfire 4.4.2 it is just as fast as the mf1 tw ROM and I have yet to find a bug or issue.
I just got phone yesterday and it's on 4.1.2 vrbmf1. All I want to do is root the phone so I can freeze sdm so I dont' get updated. Can anyone help me? I tried every possible method on every forum and none work for my phone.

Did you try casual root? That works for me every time.
