Xperia Z Car Mount - Xperia Z Accessories

How do you mount Xperia Z in your car? POST. Did anyone use the same as this car mount?
Where did you get it, and also give some comment on it.
Any post will be appreciated.

I use the mounts from proclipusa.com. Not sure if it's US only or if they have international ones, but they make mounts specifically for every car model with multiple locations to mount it such as off to the side of your cup holder or on the dashboard.
They aren't cheap mounts that you put on your windshield or stick it in one of your vent. These are rather pricey, the mount for your car is like $40 and the phone specific holder is also around $40. They have universal ones that can be adjusted and what not.

I'm using a different kind of universal car mount, but the idea is the same. Something you have to keep in mind, with sidegrips like that, they will probably be pressing your volume buttons all the time. Mine has some padding on the sidegrips, so it's not so bad, but those look like it could be a problem.

I have the same

I've got a nice little setup going.
First I bought this: http://www.mobilefun.com/39176-roadcharge-micro-usb-car-holder-and-charger.htm
Then I bought this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-sony-Xperia-Z-L36h-2800mAh-External-Battery-Charger-Backup-power-Case-Cover-/181161699056?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Batteries&hash=item2a2e1426f0
I plug the RoadCharge into my car outlet and the Powerbank into the RoadCharge and I'm all set.
No messy micro usb cables or glue needed, I can easily slide my Z in and out, it's just a perfect car dock.
I'll post pics later if anyone's interested.

I bought a spare charging dock which has the port on the side which is useful. Then but a non slip mat, and now it looks like I have a gps in my car

Hi, unfortunately I've already sold my Z and moved on to the Z1 so I can't provide you pictures.
However I can definitely guarantee that the 2 items I linked to above worked as a great car dock. You just put your Z into the battery case and then plug your battery case into the Micro USB slot of the road charge. Subsequently you can just keep the battery case permanently plugged in your car and easily mount and unmount your phone.
Hope that helps!

first post
just picked up my Z the other day and for the time being, I just stand my phone in my change drawer while driving and the square shape seems to hold it in place pretty nice.

I use this:
http://www.dx.com/p/car-air-outlet-swivel-mount-holder-stand-support-for-sony-xperia-z-l36h-black-201267
The fit is a little tight but I just filed down the edges and it works great.
Edit:
They also have a suction-cup windshield mount if that's what you prefer:

(Universal) Dock useable with protection cases?

Hi there,
I am looking for a charging dock that accommodates my DHD without me having to remove the protection case (Case-Mate Barely There).
Does anyone have a suggestion for me? I just need it to charge the device, no further USB connectivity features needed.
I guess the usual Desire HD docks are all fitting so tightly that a case won't work with them, right?
Anyway, if you have any tips for me, I'd appreciate it
I'm looking for the same thing.
I'm signing up under this one as well

I've just received my Spiderpodium which does the job and is futureproof.
Its basically a rubbery type material which you can bend into various configurations and I am using it in the car right now and it works wonderfully.
I have bought a black one, it may not look as nice as custom made docking stations however is very practical.
Here's a link where it is demonstrated on an IPOD Touch however, I am using it with my DHD with a Otter commuter case attached and it works brilliantly.

Spiderpodium looks nice, wish there was something like that, but with the option of those sticky, sucky things that most gps use to attach to windows etc

My main reason for going for the Spiderpodium was because I did not want to get the windscreen "sucky" thingy. With this it leaves no marks, just sticks into the grills of my Mk5 golf which has the grills at a decent level to use sat-nav at a good viewing angle. It also holds the Wifes i-phone 4. If there is a need to, I can easily remove it from the car and use as a dock too.
Nice but I need one that I just slide in and it will charge my phone without need of connecting usb cable manually

Yup, same here - I just want to plug my phone straight in without fiddling with cables..
I have one of those cheap Chinese-made docks, I used a dremel tool to make the recess a bit bigger. It's not pretty but it fits in nicely.
I would be amazed if someone made a dock for a case. It's hard enough to get a dock for a phone, which sells millions, I would be really surprised if someone made a dock for a case which sells only in it's thousands.
Take a look at the Clingo -
http://hemorrdroids.net/clingo-universal-podium-phone-and-media-desk-stand/
It does require you to plug in the USB charger, but as I say, I think you'll have to live with that.

So, has anyone found an active dock that will work with a protective case on the phone.

Yes. The mount can be rotated 360 degrees to sit at whatever angle you would like. There are small 'pegs/feet' that hold the device in the mount which can also be slid around. You have easy access to all buttons and usb port when mounted.
The suction cup on the mount is awesome too. I've left it mounted on my windshield for days before it looses suction and needs to be re-mounted.
Here it is: http://www.arkon.com/slimgrip/G2_car_mount.html
I'm pretty happy with the Bracketron Grip-It vent mount, although that Tetrax XWAY looks pretty darned nifty!

Looking For a Car Mount?

I bought this car mount for the original SGSII and, after trading in, was pleasantly surprised to find out that it works with the Skyrocket as well.
Check it out here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/320764561950?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Note that while it does provide charging for the phone, it does not support audio out through the USB port.
Since I use Bluetooth for audio, this is not a problem for me and as such I am very happy with it so far.
My only issue with it is that it can be a little difficult to remove the phone from it due to the snug fit of the USB connector.
The reason I originally bought this over the dedicated Samsung mount is that I did not want to be stuck with a mount that wouldn't work with a phone having a case installed on it...this one does.
Also, as I stated earlier, it works with more than just one phone model...a definite plus!
In fact, this would probably work with any phone having its USB port on the bottom center, as long as the orientation of the port matches.
Infuse Samsung OEM mount works also. It's a tiny bit loose, but this is actually good because it was too tight (IMO) with the Infuse.
And it's $20 shipped.

Those look like great options but my goal was to have something that would provide power to the device (for a cleaner look without disconnected cables dangling) as well be able to accommodate a case if I choose to use one. The one I reference in the OP does exactly that.
If/When I get a SEIDIO (AKA Best Buy Platinum case) .... I'm thinking about one of these vehicle docks - SlipGrip CarMounts. I like the theory behind this one because you can leave the case ON.
I had an OEM Samsung car dock for my Captivate and it was great. Nice and snug, rock solid mount, no wiggle, etc etc... But - you had to take any case off to put the phone in it.

Diy active car dock

Following my successful attempt at a diy desktop dock, I 've had a first attempt at a diy car dock with charger pins to use the contacts on the side of the phone.
I used a cheap suction cup type car holder, the same type of pogo pins as in my desk dock and some sugru to hold the pins in place on the dock.
Works a charm but as always the sugru looks a bit like I've stuck a blob of play-doh on the dock!
But it works and doesn't look too bad

Hi,
the pogo pins were bought from RS online:
http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/products/7020109/
they are cheap enough but delivery is expensive so it's better to collect from a local store if you can
the car dock was from Amazon:

As was the sugru, but you can get that from lots of stores and hot glue might work just as well
I need to find a USA source for short pogos like that... Sparkfun's are way too long.
And the other big problem is - I probably can't get a nice car mount like that in the USA.

thought it's a bit more expensive than I paid in the uk.

Best car mount for Note 9

MOD EDIT: LINK REMOVED
Per the forum rules, posing affiliate links is not allowed on XDA.
The best in my opinion is the Schosche Magnetic Mount (the small sticky version). It really sticks, and is convenient. But on the down side, you can't use the wireless charging with it.
here's a link:
I planned on using the cd mount that I had with the note 8 on the 9 but after it popped free 3 times in a row driving down the road I just ordered a mount from proclipusa.com. That worked out so well I ordered another for my other vehicle. No point in taking any chances with this phone.
These guys have a couple of different options but for me this is the best one for any phone.

Depending on where you put your metal at you can still use wireless charging. I have a magnetic mount on my car and two pieces of metal slapped on the bottom of the case. Holds both upright and sideways just fine. Wireless charges as well.

You can't get better than Brodit. I think they're sending me one to review, so I'll post a video once I've done it. For now, here's one for another phone.

Brodit is Proclips on this side of the pond. I agree it is one of the best I have ever used. I do wish the note 9 holder came with the clip for the charging cable like the one in your video.
I'm using a Proclip mount with an iOttie easy one touch 4 head and it works fantastic.

would you mind showing us how you placed it and what kind of metal plate you have? cause mine is a bit too wide so it covers mostly the entire back of the device so wireless charging wont work.

Current case.

I need to move it down, and use 2 of the smaller one. Since I wanted it to also hang sideways I used two plates to have more force to hold the phone in place. I looked at the video of where the wireless charging pad is on the phone so there is some wiggle room.

thanks, i actually found this https://bit.ly/2CZ4xiZ i can see that the metal plates are quite thin and can be put on the closer to the side of the case. so hopefully this would work.
My only problem with this is it's not fast wireless charging.

I can't see it page is stuck on shipping
Keep in mind (main reason why I didn't look at wireless charging for the car) if you have android auto and other things running the wireless charging couldn't keep up on the charging. That is why I just plug in if I am going on a longer trip and short trips just quickly mount it. This phone has done amazing on battery life.

Interesting.. can you send a photo please?
get the iottie wireless fast charger car mount.
I've had this mount for a few years now, even bought a new one when I bought a new car. Simple, easy to use, it works well, and it's only $9.

This is a good one; It's almost identical to the Schosche, but it's cheaper and comes via Amazon. The one I use is just the one that comes from Walmart. But yeah, I've ordered one of these also.
For those with the magnetic car mount. Does the magnet not effect the s pen anymore? I remember seeing the old notes loose sensitivity or touch with the s pen when a magnetic case or mount.

Not that I've noticed, I do notice my screen comes on for an off screen note sometimes when I put my phone on the magnet a little to the left.
