I bought this car mount for the original SGSII and, after trading in, was pleasantly surprised to find out that it works with the Skyrocket as well.
Check it out here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/320764561950?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
Note that while it does provide charging for the phone, it does not support audio out through the USB port.
Since I use Bluetooth for audio, this is not a problem for me and as such I am very happy with it so far.
My only issue with it is that it can be a little difficult to remove the phone from it due to the snug fit of the USB connector.
The reason I originally bought this over the dedicated Samsung mount is that I did not want to be stuck with a mount that wouldn't work with a phone having a case installed on it...this one does.
Also, as I stated earlier, it works with more than just one phone model...a definite plus!
In fact, this would probably work with any phone having its USB port on the bottom center, as long as the orientation of the port matches.
Infuse Samsung OEM mount works also. It's a tiny bit loose, but this is actually good because it was too tight (IMO) with the Infuse.
And it's $20 shipped.

That's a good option as long as you're not using a case on your phone.

I should have read your post closer. I didn't notice you mentioned you can use a case with that dock. Good stuff.
I just checked youtube but couldn't find anything on it. If you have spare time, could you take a vid of how you put the phone in the dock and connect it?
This one works well.

Those look like great options but my goal was to have something that would provide power to the device (for a cleaner look without disconnected cables dangling) as well be able to accommodate a case if I choose to use one. The one I reference in the OP does exactly that.
If/When I get a SEIDIO (AKA Best Buy Platinum case) .... I'm thinking about one of these vehicle docks - SlipGrip CarMounts. I like the theory behind this one because you can leave the case ON.
I had an OEM Samsung car dock for my Captivate and it was great. Nice and snug, rock solid mount, no wiggle, etc etc... But - you had to take any case off to put the phone in it.
A Proclip USA SkyRocket holder is in the make. It almost worked in the Infuse and Galaxy II holders (T-Mobile/Sprint). The have to make some adjustments to have it custom for the SkyRocket.
Email Proclip to get yourself added to the list. They will email you when they have them. But they have many holders to make, just be patience. The will come through.

While those look like a good product, I have three vehicles that I drive on a semi-regular basis. I just cant justify having to purchase a mount for each vehicle instead of having a windshield mount that can go from car to car.

Ya I'd been lookin at the Proclip for a while now but the price always held me back... $30 for the mount and another $35-40 for the holder... That's a lot of money for just a car mount... That SlipGrip company has the entire car mount for just $30 and it will let me use the Seidio case I wanna get... Thanks for the link Ginther! Now just gotta wait for Seidio to make the case in white and for Slipgrip to make the holder for the skyrocket...lol

Looks like SlipGrip knows a future market when they see it. Under Samsung devices it says Skyrocket mounts coming soon. Cool!

i have a feeling it has something to do with the line out not working till froyo comes out, like with the home dock. at least i hope so. if we see froyo without a car dock i'm gonna be pissed.
I've ordered two of the Media Docks, $20 each shipped. One will stay in my office on my desk, the other I will be customizing to fit into the ashtray of my X5 so I don't have to fumble with the car charger and headphone cords anymore since 2.2 will enable the headphone jack on the dock through the MicroUSB port.
I finally just got rid of Sirius because my new car has bluetooth that I can play slacker through. Soooo I went and ordered one for $5 off ebay. I dont expect it to be top notch.... but as long as it holds the phone I am good.

This is one thing I've been waiting for since I got my epic on release day. Starting to get sick of waiting. I want to probably get the Arkon beanbag mount but I hate that it doesn't come with a car charger and it's so freakin hard to find a car charger that has an angeled head (on the point that plug into the phone) so I don't have a goofy wire curved around the top of the phone.
I still do not have any mount or car charger yet as I still want to wait for the official dock but my patience is wearing very thin on this issue

Proclip vehicle mount with adjustable ipod holder works 100% perfectly and allows enough adjustment to use with Epic bare or with any of the common snap on cases and such.
This was my biggest concern when I got the phone as well as I wasn't a fan of the top-mounted usb input Samsung chose to go with when most other devices are (logically IMO) bottom-mounted precisely because of cradling convenience.
I picked up a Bracketron universal vent mount. I then got a 3' car charger (straight) and a 3' stereo cable to input the audio into my radio. I lashed the two cables together about every 6" with black wire ties. It's really only a little over 1' from my radio to the mount, but I just let them loop over and hang down the left side onto the center of the console when I'm not in the car. And the extra length is nice as it allows you to easily pull the cables to you when you hop in the car for a quick/easy plug in before putting the phone in the dock. Perhaps not the most elegant solution, but it's passable and semi-efficient until a more official solution comes out (and even then I'm not a big fan of the landscape layout.)
This thread needs pics and links! I recently tried some little cheapy one at WalMart for $7, and while it was a super tight fit, it bounced around too much while driving to make it reasonably viewable to watch movies at the same time.
I did this with my epic and used a cheap crappy case I found on eBay and the cradle/mount from Garmin Nuvi.

Anyone get one? I am guessing by the look that it does not work with a case.
Can anyone post a few more detailed pics when they get it please? I'd like to know a few things like if it has a connection for audio out, and does it work? If not, can you plug in a 3.5 audio cable or does the mount obstruct the jack? How does the "cradle' attach to the "mount"? Could one use just the cradle part with their own mount? How much tilt/swivel does it allow for? TIA

Anyone get this for their Fascinate? Seems to me that the weird thing is the lack of car mounts made for the Fascinate that fit a case.
I found this being talked about in a few forums and thought it looked cool. Comes with a silicone looking rubber case that just slips right into the mount. My question is if anyone has this and is the case that it comes with as big as it looks.

The samsung OEM car mount is great. It also has a depression for the camera that you can dremel out in about 3.5 seconds to allow for HD video recording in your race car. If you have not found a "good mount", your not looking or your too cheap

My goal is to find a good car mount that fits a case. I would imagine everyone has a case of some sorts and was wondering what they are using in conjunction with what car mount.
ProClip has an adjustable mount for those with cases. They are not as nice and fitting as the ones made for the naked phone.

Then you select the vehicle mount made specifically for your car.
Hi there,
I see there's another thread re: car mounts for the Epic and the getting the audio out to function. I'm wondering if anyone has had any success with using a car mount when their Epic is already in a case.
It seems as though an Epic with case won't fit inside the Samsung OEM Epic car mount without removing the back half of the case (annoying). Is that a bad assumption? I'd love to have a mount that has the ability to charge the Epic; audio out is just an added bonus!
(BTW I'm using the Otterbox Defender series, but I'm sure all the cases are roughly the same in terms of added girth...) Thanks for any suggestions!
I have a Samsung mount, and it definitely won't fit a phone with a case on. The mount fits snugly in the corners and reaches around to hold the face of the phone. No room for anything more than an invisibleskin.

I love this case i bought off amazon
I would think it works with a case but not sure
My local sprint store let me try every case they had to try and find one that worked with th samsung car mount. A lot of them did fit into the dock. The Seidio case was the best fitting since it was the thinnest. I wouldn't be nervous at all about it falling out.
However, none of the cases allowed the usb to slide in fully to let the phone charge or output audio.
So if you simply want a mount, then your set.

I am using the sprint mount with the yooboa (sp?) Extended batey and it fits fine. I think it would open wide enough as well for a case, depth shouldn't be a problem since it works with my extendo battery. I was able to talk the guy at the sprint store into letting me see if it would fit before I bought it, he said sure, but if you run into a douche buy and try and return if it doesn't work... don't they have like a 30 day return policy

If you want wireless charging on the fly yes. Otherwise get any of the universal ones on amazon or ebay. I have an arkon, kropsson aero, and Xenomix. All work, but all have their flaws and benefits. You need to search around the accessories threads and read up.
I am very picky when it comes to car mounts. I hate how ugly all the universal mounts look with the large claws on the sides. I was spoiled by the original nexus one OEM car mount. I want something that looks like its made for the phone.
A couple of phones back I had a Nokia n9. While looking for a car dock I found one made for a Nokia n8. Get on amazon and do a search for a Nokia cr-122. This mount will fit almost any phone and it looks like it was made to fit your specific phone. Its expandable. It fit my n9, my HTC one s, my girls iPhone, and my nexus 4. Its great. And reasonably priced as well. I will get some pictures up as soon as I find em.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
I'm finding this works well with the N4 (landscape) as the N4 has such a smooth flat rear surface (even with a XtremeGuard style protector on it). Famous last words... but I don't fear it will fall off. It really sticks, but easily 'peels' off . I just wipe the 'sticky circle' with a damp cloth periodically. It's not an adhesive, but feels like tacky glue.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/FoneM8-Wind...s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1359837727&sr=1-224
I actually stick the above to one of these. Easy to move out of sight, and it doesn't seem to slide on the dash. Also NO damage to dash/easily movable between cars

I liked the Nexus one car mount as well, but hardly used it and sold it soon afterwards because I use cases and taking the phone case on and off is a hassle. But I guess if you are running a nekkid nexus 4, I can see why you would like the OEM type mounts.
I ended up using the proclip mount with the USB charger built in, and a Bluetooth adapter for the audio. All I have to do is slide it in and go.
After looking at the various options I too didn't like the bulky mounts. I went for the Mountek cradle and I'm really happy with it. Fast delivery too.
Here's something you wouldn't expect...
... the car mount that I use for my Samsung Galaxy S3 (which I believe was originally for the AT&T Galaxy Blaze 4G) fits the Nexus 4 perfectly! The phone fits securely, charges through the USB connector and exposes the headset port on the top. Unfortunately, you cannot use the USB audio out portion of the dock.

i wouldnt rely that much on magnet ones. Unless you have a very thin cover (which i also dont recommend). If you have to break all of the sudden it falls. I personally use this type of Universal mounts:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Liger-Unive...134995?hash=item3f64350153:g:6dUAAOSw1DtXJAlt
But mine is black completely.
It allows you to charge the device at without compromising position, it also allows you to rotate it 360 and more than just rotate it you can actually move it like the mirrors of your car. It has some protections to protect your car, your phone, and to prevent the phone from falling. And it can hold up to a 7" width phone. I think that even i bit more than 7 inch. I dont know if the one i sent in the link is the exact same one im using however it looks exactly the same. the hard sponge in each side allows you to implement pressure on the sides that will prevent the phone from falling. You can pretty much adjust everything to your liking with this mount. I dont know about others similars to this one but this one has been for me the best out of all i have tried.
It also should work on any vents of any car. The reason i dont like the magnet ones is because it usually requires for you to paste a sticker and it limits yourself to only the devices who have the sticker. However, what happens when your phone is dead and for example your friend has his phone and he/she lend it to you to put the gps or put music?
Of course, try to find one that is closer to your location if you want to pay less, or from Asia.

Will be dependant on model, common sense and not driving like a ****, obviously...

yeah but since we dont know how anyone drives until we see it, i cant say how he drives. Also, the cover you are talking about is slim in comparison to what im talking about. Of course, he is on his liberty to buy the magnetic one. Everyone has different experiences with different mounts. LOL. I personally have tried 4 and none of them worked as good as the one i bought last. Also, in many occasions im driving with people that lend me their phones for multiple reasons. Agreed - this is very much a case of suck it and see. Just saying that this particular generic version works fine in normal driving conditions with a entry branded 'rugged' thickness case, rather than a thin one. If you are likely to mount curves or drive on particularly bumpy tracks experiences may differ.
Thanks for the input guys.
Currently I'm using a Poetic Atmosphere case. So I'm assuming it's pretty thin. I might give the magnet option a try.
For me, it is almost always Brodit, have a look at these. I have a Brodit ProClip installed in my car, and instead of Brodit device specific holder, I have installed Herbert Richter adjustable holder set up onto Brodit ProClip as I have more than one device.

Hi all.
I too am after a good car mount. I have just come from the G3, and used a Kidigi "clamp" style car mount. Specifically fitted for the G3. Even if you had a case on your phone, you could remove a part of the product and it would fit snug as a bug inside whatever that saying is... Sadly they do not make any for the G5. Here's the G3 one if interested to see:
http://www.gadgets4geeks.com.au/kidigi-car-mount-charging-cradle-for-lg-g3
As you can see, it has the clamp on one side only. A much better design this way I think.
Anyways, the closest they have is this universal one (with a USB Type C charger): http://www.kidigi.com/index.php?route=product/product&productlist_id=7&product_id=120#.V81GIPl9670
I'm really bummed there's no car mount specifically for the G5 out there. If anyone finds one, please post it!
I think I'm going to end up going for a universal clamp style for the windscreen / windshield. I don't like the magnet kind, nor the ones that sit on the car vents.

For me, it is almost always Brodit, have a look at these. I have a Brodit ProClip installed in my car, and instead of Brodit device specific holder, I have installed Herbert Richter adjustable holder set up onto Brodit ProClip as I have more than one device.

So far I like this the best. Do you know how the G5 WITH the Hi-Fi Plus module would fare in this mount? Also, I am guessing the G5 cannot have a case on while in this mount, right?

I have the Spigen case with the HR mount and it works great. Downside is the USB needs plugged in every time vs my Brodit active charger for M8. Saying that the flexibility of the HR outweighs the hassle of plugging in the USB cable. The HR mount is an universal which is spring loaded to grip multiple phone shapes and sizes. Seems very solid after a couple of weeks use, hopefully it'll last, no reason for concern atm.

If you have a CD slot in your car that you don't use... I would recommend this mount: https://goo.gl/vF8ZUh
I've been using it for the last two years, and I love it.

Would you be able to show me a photo of your setup with the G5 wearing the case and in the mount?
EDIT: I just realised I would not be able to use the Hi-Fi Plus module with this mount. I would have to drill a hole in the bottom, which I wouldn't have an issue in doing...
Hey all. So is Brodit the only manufacturer making specifically LG G5 car mounts? I'm searching high and low and all others I find in my searches are technically "universal" car mounts. Boo! I may have to go without a case for my G5 and get a Brodit mount. Not sure how I feel about this!
There's a magnetic model from Anker. Has anyone tried?

Right from Wal-Mart. By FAR, the best magnetic car mount I've ever used. Also comes with two magnets. Get it.

I'm looking for a couple of mounts I can use in our cars. I would like universal ones that both me and my wife can use (she's just inherited my G3).
I like the idea of the magnet ones like this Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/291750206879 but I don't know how good they are.
Thanks
