I'm going to be purchasing a Nexus 5 soon, and I will be using it on t mobile. But I was wondering if there was any difference between the one Google sells on their website or the one on t mobiles. Because on t mobiles it costs about $100 dollars more. So if you've purchased one, or know about this please comment. Thank you.

there are only two models of the nexus 5 hardwarewise. d820 for north america and d821 for the rest of the world. there are no carrier specific models as far as i know.

So then I shouldn't worry about getting slower/or different signal if I get one or the other?

So the play store n5 is same as Sprint, t-mob versions? Not hardware wise but software overlay and updates.

you should get the correct one for your country
but i think you can only purchase the right one, so you shouldn't worry about it. the one from the play store and t-mobile store are the same imho.
Okay thanks a lot guys.

yeah it has cdma and gsm hardware and i don't see multiple firmware build numbers out there so there aren't carrier skins and apps.. they all have everything needed for sprint, att, or t-mobile as far as what the phone needs. but maybe only the sprint ones are registered on the sprint network with the imei or whatever. verizon is not supported.
more than this, the modem is the same for both models (d820 and d821)! this is really cool, so i can use the .15 modem in germany and have a better signal. originally this modem was for the d820 (north america). i think the only difference are hardwarebound frequences.

I was in the market for another GT-i9020T using my extra upgrade but it seems that Bestbuy is out of stock in both the stores and online. Is there a store other than Bestbuy that still has T-mobile Nexus S available and will accept my upgrade to reduce the price?
Best Buy is the exclusive retailer of the Nexus S in the USA.

Thanks for the reply. I noticed that since the Nexus S 4g was released, it became available in four different places: Amazon, Bestbuy, Sprint stores, and Wirefly. I was hoping it was the same for the t-mobile version.

The price without contract and unlocked is as follows:
32 GB Black/White: $399.00
16 GB Black/White: $349.00
It is also available with a 2 year contract with Sprint.
Sprint price is somewhat more expensive. I wouldn't.

Is actually $150 after $50 MIR, unless you're a new costumer and port your number from another carrier.

Lte frequencies are not the same in us and worldwide. If you don't need lte in Jordan no problem. Else check your local operator lte frequencies to see if you'll be able to use an American nexus version here.
All phones have American and worldwide version at least (and often Chinese and Asian specific version) as frequencies are not the same around the world.

Hi,
I'm seeing some conflicting into about this in several different threads, so I thought it might help to address it in one location. I'm a Sprint customer and currently have a GS4. Will I be able to use my existing sim card to activate my N5 when it comes, or will I have to get a new sim card?
Thanks!

You can use your existing SIM (you will likely need to call in to Sprint customer care to get it swapped over though). I'd suggest that you request a new SIM anyway, for use on the S4 at a later point.
Thanks. I'm selling the S4 and telling the buyer that they'll need to contact Sprint for a new sim.

Sweet, that was quick. I'm still working out the logistics. I'm going to have to sell the S4 first because I can't afford to be out 400 bucks until the phone is sold. I was thinking about just taking my upgrade with Sprint on December 1st, but then I found out that Sprint is only selling the 16gb model. I'll probably use my upgrade to buy an iPhone 5S for $200 and hopefully sell it for $600-$700.

Yeah, I hear you. Luckily I had a nice bonus at work last month, otherwise I wouldn't have dished out the money. Hoping to sell the S4 soon. Put it on Craigslist with no hits yet so I'll probably try Swappa and Ebay next. Kind of glad it didn't sell yet though because that will at least give me the chance to go back if I have major buyer's remorse.

The in store credit amount is higher, then you get 30% extra on top of that amount if you buy a used game for $1. Then use the in store credit to buy gift cards you would usually use.
You could buy all shell gas gift cards, then take them there and buy all VISA gift cards... or just use them for fuel like I am.

Interesting. Did they hassle you about the phone being brand new? The guy I talked to over the phone said they they can't buy a brand-new, unopened phone, and he acted like I stole it or something. I had to explain my plan and the fact that I don't even have the phone yet.

Not at all. We opened it together. Heck I literally never even touched the phone itself. He did ask why. I told him the truth, that I was eligible for upgrade and the iPhones bring the most on trade and I bought a Nex5 off contract.

It could still work, we'd need someone to test. The M7 developer edition supported T-Mobile but only on 3G/FauxG. But flashing the T-Mobile radio to it enabled LTE connectivity.

Possibly. But the spec sheet for our model doesn't mention the T-Mobile compatibility we've seen so far. I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if HTC just used software/firmware to disable bands (or maybe not at all) in order to avoid making 5+ different pieces of hardware.

According to the website, yes. But it very likely has the CDMA radio hardware in there in order to save HTC the cost of manufacturing multiple devices. Much like how our locked model can connect to T-Mobile LTE, though you will find no mention of those bands being supported.

Well, I guess that's a good point. I guess I'm just so used to instantly voiding my warranties every time I get a new phone or tablet I don't even think about that...
My fiance just bought the OnePlus One on eBay for a cool $400, no shipping. 64GB. Very nice deal, no yellow bands, no WiFi issues. She loves it and I admit, I do like it. A lot. However, she activated it yesterday on TMO and it doesn't seem to be getting LTE signals. I was told the back of the Chinese variants do not have the CYANOGEN branding, but hers does. Is there something I'm missing?
