Custom ROMS, NFC, I9070P - Galaxy S Advance I9070 General

Correct me if I'm wrong, but there are no Custom ROMs that support NFC on I9070P.
Could anyone explain why NFC (I assume a driver for it) is so problematic?
Is it not possible to port a solution from a similar model?

You can install any rom you want of I9070. You just have to change the tee folder and make some changes in the updater script
Here are the steps http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191628

Apparently, and understandably, everyone is pretty much focused on stability for the non p version. NFC implementation is not a top priority as of now. Few months ago someone from the team was trying to do something about it, but I never heard anything new ever since.
I don't think anything simple like an xposed module or a software modification could do the trick. I suppose there has to be something at kernel level.
I have to say, as of now I never even found myself in the situatuon of being able to use NFC, let alone ever try it, so I don't exactly feel like it's that much of a big deal, but I can understand how others might feel differently about it.
KitKat has more focus on NFC than jb did, so maybe, just maybe, once some roms would reach a good level of stability there could be some more interest regarding it.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, KitKat should give the possibility of "emulating" an NFC chip even if the device doesn't have it physically (or something like it...), so maybe we'd be able to use NFC even on 9070 non-p ROMs. Who knows?
Hopefully not too late, we're still talking about a relatively old-ish device...
So, yeah, don't give up hope, but don't expect anything too soon.

@DaRkRhiNe
I'm talking about ROMs that support NFC specifically. Installing a I9070 ROM, while possible, won't give me NFC functionality.
@ygtenos
NFC requires hardware. It's not possible to emulate it. And there are both official and custom Kernels for I9070P that support NFC. Just no custom ROMs.
I tried finding out what NFC chip sits inside I9070P, but couldn't find the information. I assume it's either a NXP or Broadcom one.

Silly me, I read this in a rush and completely misunderstood: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2505927
Sorry for that and thanks for the clarification.

Any dev still planning to work on NFC support? Looks like there's no progress lately. @diego-ch, @t4n017, @Rox all talked about implementing it at some point, but there was no successful attempt.

It looks like that there has been some development (as you mentioned in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52624987&postcount=1504 ) - I will try cm-11-20140513-UNOFFICIAL-janicep.zip but I have no hope that it will work, as other posts suggest...

You'll probably be the first one with a hard bricked phone on its way to Samsung for a motherboard exchange.
Lol ^
I wouldnt do that. Google devices usually have very different bootloaders. Maybe the device has a different partition layout etc.
You'll have a bricked device for sure. Let the devs look into it first

Modem will probably not be compatible. The Google Edition is being sold by US carriers, they use different frequencies for 4G.
The ROM will probably boot but you might not get 4G or worse: no signal at all.

you kinda named them all, rumors are that this is just to hold off till android 5.0. Google's wants the companies that still haven't updated there phones, to actually update them and catch up. Android 5.0 is suppose to work with more phones than any other version of android. so people who still are running on android 2.3 will be able to run 5.0. RUMORED!

This is a good idea. Including the Verizon SCH-i925 lte version.
Its really a big shame IMO as the lack of development on the LTE version has really made the device a little boring and uninspired...
Don't get me wrong though; as a commercial product its actually quite sound and is very stable in my experience but just boring for someone who really got a taste for flashing when they owned a Tab 7"... that device was saved by the development in the beginning and really had some awesome enhancements by the time I lost my device and stopped checking in..
Anyway all I have at the moment is this one;
Darkman [ROM][STOCK][4.1.2][BMC3] ★★N8020★★ Stock Rooted Busybox Deodexed (CWM) [12/05/2013]
And;
emptynick's thread asking for a wish list of ROM's for the n8020
That's it though...
Anyway the second one is a newish one and so maybe someone is going to take on the job for us and get some stuff ported at the very least.. who knows

This looks interesting, what kernel did you install after installing the ROM itself. I"ve seen Boeffla, SmartPack, and Phoenix for TW Roms for verizon. There could be others I suppose in other threads though.
Also, did you do anything with CSC, That's an acronym that I'll have to look up and I've never had to worry about that option. Debloated as it is, is really nice, I'd say it's one of , if not, the fastest TW rom out. But I'm looking for something to debloat myself if possible as I wanted the theme engine from another newer phone like for example the s7/8/9 or note series or whatever phone, but substratum would be the shiznit.
Thanks for the reply, and I'm still collecting info from everyone else the more opinions the merrier IMHO that way not only myself but maybe others can make a decision.
I ran Phoenix 15 a while bak and it was a pain to install and use. But the theme engine worked flawlessly. I have all the files from one of the newer phones I found somewhere that after you copy them to the right places and restart your phone you can use s7 or s8 themes I beleieve.
Ahh that's cool the csc code can meke you TW ROM think your phone is something else... VERY COOL>

I like phones that look like "official", "untouched" and don't use rooted phones in everyday life.
That's why I use stock SM-G900V kernel for both CID15 and 11.
But if you have a CID15 phone, you can unlock the bootloader and use any kernel, of course.

Yes, the most obvious options are the APNs for local operators (I'm on the opposite side of the Globe from Verizon ) and some useful features as the phone call voice recorder.
But mostly I use this ROM because it's international and contains many languages - I use 2 languages besides English in my everyday life .
On the other hand, SM-G900V is a very good and inexpensive device and works just excellent with this ROM.

Nothing special.
The main idea is to use the system image from a good international ROM and the rest of firmware parts from the most recent G900V stock ROM.
Devbase idea is great and beautiful itself but I think is not that much needed for G900V.
Personally I use this ROM in stock unrooted variant.
The ROM (system image) is flashed to G900V from SafeStrap recovery.

Personally you use which rom?
My issues or quirks so far, going back to older twrp, just the right one so that my SD can be read, and I think none of the earlier versions that allow aroma to function correctly, can deal with my ExtSD that is set as internal in storage in N and O. So, I bit the bullet and tried a couple taking care to flash the correct kernel in each case. However, my efforts were fruitless, and I ended up completely wiped. And while I keep a lot backed up regularly, It had been a while but I didn't lose much important stuff but more like stuff I just don't like having to chase down, like the latest magisk, nanodroids zips, xposed, custom kernel, and so on..
Either way, after trying two different roms, Nemesis and Noise, which I was really looking forward to running, neither worked well. I can't remember making calls or sending texts, but I do remember a lot of apps crashing constantly but perhaps there's more to do that select a kernel, the one thing they ask you to select doesn't have an option for vzw. The code thing, that's probably what screwed me on both attempts.
For those who are wondering, there's the phoenix ROM in the vzw dev thread. It does have the theme engine from Samsung. I just wanted to try something like Noise or another Rom.
Also I remember downloading the files needed from somewhere to add to a stock rom to add the theme engine. There's quite a bit, but I'm almost certain this would work, for the theme engine, but I'd like to try some of the newer samsung apps.
I kinda really hate going back to to stock based rom because I have a feeling it's not going to be up to date with security patches. That's one thing I like about running Oreo, and even Nougat, there have been several dev's / builders releasing roms with the latest security patches baked in.. RR for example on AndroidFileHost, I think I saw viper, and others as well.
I'm still undecided at this point, and I'm just getting my apps back and with everything else after my accidential SD wipe when I tried to install one of the roms. That really sucked because my last full phone backup was a year ago.
Keep me posted if you guys get any of those ROM's from there working.
Well I've tried a couple and none of them have cell service of any type working for me. I've tried Noise and Unique to no avail. Unique booted fine but no service, Noise wouldn't get past the initial boot screen. This is just my experience so YMMV.
Oh, I've had excellent luck with the Phoenix ROM for CID 15 phones. Everything works as it should. But I still prefer AOSP or LOS based ROMS. If I can only get data working as it should when I'm not on Verizon towers.
