Using android L - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I was wondering, for those of you already have android L, do you know if it can be used normally as a phone (eg: no serious bugs or anything).
Cheers!

as a phone? no way! but it can be used as a dump truck
why would they release it if you couldnt use it? what would be the point? now, it will have a few bugs, but it will be more than usable.

Curious. Would you mind elaborating on this? What exactly have you (or others) found that is currently broken?

go read the giant thread.

It's usable as a phone (calls and texts). Just has bugs and some apps don't work. There's a that of apps that don't work. Check to make sure the apps you must have are not on there before you flash

i flashed a rom cm7 but i dont have the smartshare... and it would be nice to have apps from other devices to work on my g2x
Click on this, it might get you where you need to go. Since this is a phone which is highly integrated with google, you might possibly want to familiarize yourself with using google to search also.

Original Jelly Bean

I've found a lot of unofficial Jelly Bean ROMS that partially works but I can't find the official Google ROMS nowhere, why xda don't have and official google ROM thread or something.
I know you have to compile it and that kind of things but I don't know why we don't keep posted the original google releases without extras.
I get curious to benchmarking google ROMS and AOSP ROMS and see the difference.
Really? Ever heard of GOOGLE SEARCH?

In first, calm down.
You have not understood me or I have not explained well
I know you can download the ROM source but I mean to keep it compiled somewhere. Because we only have tuned ROMs and not the original.
I just want to compare ROMS.
Cant wait for this to come out for my S3....

You can't just take a ROM compiled from source an throw it on any phone to compare it...it doesn't work that way.

So then what do you mean you want to compare them? What is there to compare on one phone? Changelogs are also available from Google between versions of Android. And in the Nexus forums there are factory images available for going back to stock. You are jumping around quite a bit here.

You can't do that
Devs make roms so they can be compatible and functional on the device they are building for you can't just use Google's and put it on any phone because those are just for the official updates

That looks fine. Unfortunately there is no port to my HTC HD2, but that's another Problem.
sadly it doesn't work this way it takes time for devs from different devices to make working full builds

Yeah doing these kind of posts will get you just yelled at :S so don't but if you want an opinion on what you would like based on what you want try the Nocturnal MergeX. Though still customisable, Nocturnal is designed to work out of the box with little effort, making it a good choice for those who would rather leave most of the effort to the experts.
So give it a try

Look man, we aren't necessarily getting angry at you alone (well at least I'm not), it's that some of us people have been around these forums for a long time, and you have no idea how many times this question has been asked. It's not just you, a lot of people do it. It just drives some of us more experienced members crazy to see the same question over and over again, that it brings a little anger out of us.
To answer your question, to start things off it's a matter of if you prefer AOSP or Sense.

Me too
But if people like it, I'll recommend it to non-rooted users.
A great app. I think it does basically the same thing as adb backup as it requires "pairing" with a PC when using for the first time. I used it for backing up before unlocking bootloader. Worked perfectly and was able to restore all my data on a custom rom.

Thats not a bad idea to have in the guides.
Yeah, good idea
That's why I wanted some feedback. When I see someone asking about backing up before rooting, I had recommended MyBackUp Pro. If this is better, will recommend it--

Lollipop 5.0.1 Zip

My computer is broken so I can't use a factory image, which I have, and therefore need a zip to flash. If you can help please do) BTW I need the whole rom, not just the update, and stock. Thx

It's an honest answer. Why complicate things? Take care of what needs to be fixed first and everything that follows is easy.

Yep, that or find someone else that's got a computer with USB and internet connection.
If Lollipop requires an updated bootloader (I haven't checked on that) you're done. Cause you would need your flash the new bootloader. (with fastboot... So a computer required)
If it doesn't, just flash a custom Lollipop ROM that's close to stock.
If you can't find a factory firmware zip in the development section, then that's all you can do.
Aside from getting access to a computer as already suggested.

Nobody here is trolling.
OP came in here asking for a zip - didn't even bother to look on the dev section.
we told him to fix his computer - he says he's got no money (but yet he's got a N5)
told him to find someone WITH a working computer - got ignored.
Sorry, no more spoonfeeding for you.
If you can get back to stock somehow on KitKat you may be able to OTA.
