You have everything you need. If you're rooted, unlock the bootloader using the app you have, flash the non-touch cwr 6.0.1 or 6.0.2 using the ez recovery app or rom manager, then download cm10 and appropriate latest jelly bean gapps, boot into recovery from rom manager or pull battery hold volume up+home +power. From there, do a nandroid backup first, then wipe data, cache, system, and dalvick. Now flash your cm10 or any other rom, then your gapps, profit.
Edit: no over the air updates should be accepted or you can brick that shiny phone.
The whole process is much simpler now that the bootloader is unlocked.

thanks for the info! so say I'm on a custom Rom with my boot loader unlocked and i want to go back to stock rooted, would i just flash the stock rooted image? and won't that lock the boot loader again?

Depends if you're on an AOSP based rom. If so, you'll need to flash a stock kernel and a full wipe is also necessary. Otherwise you should pretty much just be able to dirty flash over any stock based roms.
No, it won't relock the bootloader. That's a separate process.
Hello guys I just got may galaxy S3 from a friend. I think the bootloader is still unlocked after I received an OTA today. I don't have root or recovery. I just want to be sure I use the correct root and recovery method. Could someone point me to the one they used on this build with success? I would be greatly appreciated. I did look but none are specific enough for me to be sure I'm using the correct one.
Is my bootloader still unlocked if it says (custom)?
Again I appreciate any help

Welcome! In order to unlock your BL in the first place you must have had root. This is a good thread on rooting, unlocking, and flashing recovery/ROMs/kernels:

As long as you have one of the stock builds listed in section 2 of that thread you should be good. The EZ-unlock app should be able to tell you if you're BL is unlocked.. also if you reboot the phone, if the samsung splash flashes for a split second (the one before you see Samsung Galaxy SIII), then you're prob unlocked.. if you see it for a few seconds then you're prob locked
Man I rooted flashed recovery in rom manager. (recovery wouldn't stick) so I flashed it again after making a nandroid and ended up having to recover a soft brick at 4am. Thank God for puremotive's guide on how to recover from it I was able to be back up. I don't know what went wrong. Because I didn't have busy box. Maybe I shouldn't have used the latest recovery rom manager flashes? I'm on stock with root and afraid to move anywhere! Anyone know how to make recovery stick on stock rom? I've never had this happen. Usually I would be OK and on to try AOSP on other devices uve had. Right now I'm rooted on stock rom with bootloader unlocked and have OTA root keeper in case I get another OTA. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Take care

Ok, issue is probably that you used the current version 1.4 I think. In the app description in the playstore is a link to older versions, you want 1.2. The new ones are unlocking, but it's not sticking. There is also a link in the current root guide somewhere, but direct from the play store is fine.

Let me be more specific because I may have had a locked bootloader.
I received the phone yesterday from my friend. He did unlock the bootloader with the app. I installed the official OTA from Verizon as soon as I got it. I rooted it. I didn't bother trying to unlock the bootloader because after the OTA when it booted it said custom with a lock symbol on boot up. I rooted and flashed the latest recovery from rom manager. I'm sure I picked the right phone. I made a nandroid but my recovery wouldn't stick. I remember it saying something about Co firming something about a recovery and I could have chosen yes. It sounded like CWM wouldn't stick if I choose yes?
I don't know if the OTA locked my bootloader back up?
I would like to try again. Any of you guys no how to make recovery stick on stock rom? I would like to try paranoid android. What recovery should I be on to flash this jelly bean based rom? I would really appreciate anyone who knows how I screwed up or has went straight to JB from a specific CWM recovery. I'm also not sure if I should said yes or know when in CWM when asking me that recovery question. I wish I remember what the question was

The app doesn't actually check the bootloader. It just keeps the info in the app data. Meaning if you unlock with the app then uninstall ezunlock and then reinstall it won't know if you're locked or unlocked.

I'm 90% sure you wouldn't have been able to install the OTA if your bootloader was unlocked. The 'custom' on the boot doesn't mean that, and now that I think of it the fact you saw that proves that you aren't unlocked.
If you're still stock rooted then download the EZ unlock 1.2 from the link above and also go find EZ recovery on the market. Do not use the market version of EZ unlock. Now it doesn't matter what order you do it in but unlock your bootloader with the app them use EZ recovery to flash your recovery. Then you're all set to flash ROMs.

Good, glad to hear you got it rolling.
Update: This bootloader is older and is not the newest available one. If you want the 4.18 version one go to THIS post and flash it with fastboot.
Older bootloader version: Doesn't flash and take hold for everyone, flash at your own risk
Usefull for people that don't want to flash in fastboot. The official OTA for 4.2 flashes this bootloader through recovery in the exact same manner

You need to be aware that on my Nexus7 the problem with Custom Recovery on the newest bootloader still exist.
Means you need to downgrade to 3.34 in order to flash CWM.

I need to be aware of problems that happens on your Nexus7? I don't have that issue I flashed TWRP Recovery just fine on this booloader...
No, I did not write to you personally. Glad it worked on your side.
Just the people to know.
That's really strange. I would try flashing the 4.1.2 factory images even though it might wipe everything including your sdcard.

Did that, thanks. Indeed wiped everything
Glad I had a backup
Hey guys,
So, I can flash this file from TWRP and it will upgrade my bootloader?
Thanks in advance!
you can, but make sure you check MD5, flashing a corrupt download can kill your device. OP, you should add a MD5 check in the zip if possible. but thanks for this none the less.
If you have a rom like cm10 installed or other rom that has buysbox in it, just type busybox md5sum /sdcard/bootloader-grouper-4.13.zip
Either in terminal emulator or adb shell.
If your on stock you'll probably want to check it with a program on your pc or install busybox from one of the playstore busybox apps. Of course you'll need to be rooted.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I went ahead and added sha1sum, sha256sum and sha512sum checks.
I have just flashed the file and thank you, I no longer have to keep my power button pressed for 20 seconds just to have my tablet go on
Thank you so much!!!
If anyone has any problems there is a link in my SIG to fix it or if you just need to revert back...
Just a FYI the older bootloaders are in the factory images! You can extract them out and flash the bootloader separately if you don't want to flash ALL the factory images. So far flashing this with twrp I have not had one single issue yet to speak of... Each bootloader is meant to run on specific platforms, recoveries, kernels ect. So on that note I still suggest if you want to revert your bootloader you revert completely with the factory images.

Hi,
thanks for that but when i falsh it in TWRP it's wipe all my data but i still have the 3.41 bootloader?
I'm not sure if i understood the thing to do with the md5sum?
f*** this bootloader i flash it yesteday.........
and my tablet stay on bootloader and i can't flash google image 4.1.1-4.1.2-4.2
why??
i can't downgrade bootloader too.........
CWM + CM10 stable
I just flashed this bootloader using CWM 6.0.1.0 and CM10 stable. I used Chrome to download it and the md5sum command in terminal emulator to check the md5 hash before hand. It flashed fine, I have the new version number, everything continues to work. Very easy.

I am having problems flashing Clean Inheritance Rom 4.1 and I believe my TWRP 2.4.4.0 may be the problem because it seems corrupted.
I followed the instructions on this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
So far I have been able to flash the patched twrp 2.4.4.0 and install the Asus stock 4.2.1 but every time I try to flash CROM 4.1 twrp will initiate updating partition and then it will just restart w/o warning to its home screen. I think that my twrp may be corrupted but i have used fastboot to repush the twrp multiple times and the asus stock 4.2.1 multiple times but this is not solving my issue. I see that fastboot has a erase command and wanted to know if i would use that to erase the recovery img completely and then try flashing twrp again to see if this resolves the issue or will the erase command brick my device? Also do I need to have my stock kernel for the CROM 4.1 to work? I am attaching screenshot of my tablet info, please let me know if more info is needed or if i need to upload a video of what is going on thanks.

Update! bump please help someone
I am still having issues installing clean rom 4.1 but I noticed that if I keep selecting to flash the CROM 4.1 or 4.0 rom it will eventually initiate and let me choose the options and actually start flashing but once it says it is complete and i reboot it does not boot CROM just gets stuck at the asus boot screen. Then i must use fastboot to flash the stock android 4.2.1 to get the thing up and running and then twrp pretty much breaks after i use fastboot to flash teh android 4.2.1 blob file so I have to reflash the patched 2.4.4.0 again. I really do think the problem is with twrp because ever since this new 2.4.4.0 update i have been having issues i remember before twrp was a great utility but now it seems like it is a nightmare is there a way from me to try flashing crom 4.1 with clockwork mod yet?

I was able to flash SuperSU as well
I was able to flash SuperSU and it was confirmed rooted with root checker. I still don't know why CleanROM will not work I have downloaded the ROM multiple times but it just refuses to flash is there something else I need to check in order to flash the rom or is TWRP partially broken where it can only flash very small simple files but not a complete custom rom?
I just downloaded the energy rom and tried to flash it do my device and ended up having the same issue. It says the rom has been flashed and completes but after reboot it is just stuck on Asus bootscreen and never boots into the OS. What the hell is going on
I think my bootloader is somehow screwed up because it can't boot any custom roms it can only boot the asus stock 4.2.1 when i flash the blob file using fastboot. Did i miss a step or something to allow the bootloader to boot custom roms

Put them anywhere on the sdcard. TWRP lets you select the ZIP file, when selecting "install".
You can even select multiple files into a queue and then flash them in one go.
Be sure to wipe everything from TWRP, including cache, data (factory reset) and system.
Note that this will not wipe the contents of your sdcard (at least the version for BL 4.1 won't).

Yes, currently CROMi is one of the two ROMs supporting BL 4.2.
Just make sure to pick the right version (4.3b6 seems OK).

Just something to take note of is you said that you installed twrp 2.4.4.0, I hope you meant the patched 2.4.4.0 - 4.2 version which is the only compatible twrp version for the 4.2.1 bootloader.
All other version of twrp for the tf300 will ask for password and will not be able to mount partitions which in about 90% of cases will cause the device to brick - fastboot will no longer be able to flash anything http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2179874
Patched version of twrp 2.4.4.0 - 4.2 can be found here

Yes that's the guide you want, follow that and you should be fine.
As to the roms you can flash on the 4.2.1 bootloader, you have only the following choices at the moment:
- CROMi-Xenogenesis 4.2 by sbdags, or you can go with the 4.3 beta , up to 4.3b6 at the moment (I'm using b6 now)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204166
- Energy by NRGZ28, stock or themed versions

Can confirm CROMI 4.2 works fine installed from patched TWRP 2.4.4.0. Did exactly that and it has been running flawlessly.
