[Q] Need help since 4.3 update...can no longer force 3G - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I am new to the forums, so please go easy on me.
A quick back story....where I live, I have to use a Verizon Network Extender to make and receive calls & texts from home. VZW's Extender only works with 3G. Since the upgrade to 4.1.1, the mobile network menu only has choices of Global, LTE/CDMA and GSM.
Until yesterday, I have been using an app called Phone Info to manually set my mobile network to CDMA Auto (PRL) when I got home and it worked perfectly. Since the update, the Phone Info app no longer works and I cannot find an app that will allow me the same access to set my mobile network. I receive just enough of a 4G signal where I live that my phone will not auto switch to 3G. So now I have an expensive paperweight at home.
Can anyone point me to an app or tweak that could help me with this problem?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] How do I prevent Samsung Galaxy S 4G from connecting to AT&T?

I have Samsung Galaxy S 4G with T-Mobile in San Francisco.
Whenever I go to an area without T-Mobile signal, the phone connects to AT&T. I called T-Mobile and they said that's because T-Mobile has roaming agreement with AT&T so my phone would connect.
The problem is, when my phone connects to AT&T, I can't make any calls. It says the phone's not registered. T-mobile says that's because I'm in an area that has T-Mobile coverage.
You'd think that the phone would be smart enough to figure out that only emergency calls can be made (which is what BlackBerry does and shows SOS sign). The real problem for me is that, I have WiFi calling enabled with cellular preference, and when I'm in the basement of my office building where there is no T-Mobile signal (but there is WiFi signal), my phone thinks it has cellular signal so it doesn't activate WiFi calling, yet no phone calls are coming in b/c it's not registered to AT&T's cellular network.
Is there a way for me to force my phone to only connect to T-Mobile? I know there isn't on the regular settings menu, but perhaps experts could tell me how to do so using those star-sharp keys listed here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842134)?
Thank you!
Set wifi preferred instead of cellular.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work for me because I move around a lot, and Android WiFi calling feature doesn't have handover.
There's got to be a way to prevent this phone from connecting to AT&T at a low level somehow, no?
How do I do that? Have checked the manual but can't find location where explains how to select wi-fi preferred instead of cellular. Your kind advise will be appreciated
Open WiFi Calling and select settings. You'll see Preference. Select Cellular Preferred.
I think in setting then wireless and network, then mobile networks then network operators click the default settings.... select manual and wait for the carrier to pop up.
Will this solve your problem?

Click to collapse
yep manual is exactly what OP should do.
if the settings for network operators are set to manual then u select the network u want and it sticks unless u manually select a different network provider. u are in select automatically mode so the phone can switch all on its own. this should solve your problem as other people have already mentioned
I have tried this many times and works as long you don't turn the phone off. After I forced the phone to manually select T-Mobile I checked many times the default setting and it remained in manual until the phone was turned off. When I switched it back on it was again in automatic mode and switching to ATT when signal is low.
Is there a way to prevent this? If not, well , first thing when phone is on in the morning is to check default setting.
5/24 I finally gave up and sold the phone. Samsung says they have not received any claims regarding this issue eventhough you see it frequently in the forums. I returned back to my HTC HD2 and will wait for the G2.

[Q] Network problems with I9000 bought in Singapore, using in Canada

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (16gb) in Singapore and was using it fine on Singtel's network (signed a contract with them). Now I have moved back to Canada and brought my phone with me assuming that all would be ok to use it with the network here. However I'm having big problems with this one network I just signed up with (Virgin Mobile).
85% of the time I cannot connect to it: voice calls and SMSing won't work nor will the data work on it, the only thing it says is "Emergency calls only". Then at other times everything will seem to connect and work fine - I can make calls and use data.
Virgin Mobile will not support me much because they're thinking it's the phone's problem, if I use the phone they gave me (a lower-end model) it works fine.
Here are some details of my phone:
Firmware version
2 2
Baseband version
I9000DXJPA
Kernel version
2 6 32 9
root (at) SE-S604 #1
Build number
FROYO DXJPA
If I check out the status, it usually says this:
Network
Unknown (switches to VIRGIN when it does work)
Mobile network type
UMTS (switches between that and HSDPA and GPRS)
Service state
Out of service
Mobile network state
Disconnected (switches to connected when working, and even when it's not working sometimes)
I have Network mode set to auto mode (GSM/WCDMA). I've tried to switch it to GSM only but that didn't seem to change anything.
I'm wondering if there's some kind of configuration settings I still need to do with the phone? I'm also wondering if it is the network I'm with right now? Virgin Mobile isn't one of the bigger telcom companies here and I'm thinking that if I switch to one of the bigger telcoms, will it work better?
Something else to add - before I signed up with Virgin I was using my phone with a pre-paid service (called Chatr) for voice only and it was working fine.
I'm sure this phone can support the GSM frequencies here.. can't it?
I also still have the Singtel customizations on the phone. Will it help if I remove it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Ryan
sorry, wrong category..

[Q] nexus s wont connect to 3g or 2g

so ive had my phone since december when it came out and just recently i factory reset my device and it will not connect to 3g or 2g at all. I havent had any problems with my phone until now and i was wondering if anyone knows if there are any solutions. Im running 2.3.4 and im on t-mobile and i have always had great 3g coverage wherever i go so i know that that isnt the issue so if anyone has any ideas i would greatly appreciate it.
(edit) I just tried other sim cards and they wont pick up on 3g or 2g networks either. im at a loss on what to do.
You could flash a stock rom a 2.3.3 from tomorrow manager.

Input apn settings manually?

I had the same problem with my dutch provider free nexus s. You have to set the APN manually. On the T-Mobile website they should have the settings. I had a problem though cause in Holland the nexus s settings were not on t-mobiles website so I had to use the galaxy s settings but the apn type I had to set it to default instead of internet..bang!! May there be 3g

If you used widgetsoid or any other widget or program to toggle 2G/3G or Mobile Data on and off that could be the culprit as it some have the ability to rename the apn. I had this happen about a week after updating a phone to cm7 from 2.3.2. I had to reinstall widgetsoid and change the mobile data toggle to the root option. Then I made a widget to toggle data on and off and did that from the widget to fix the issue. It can uninstalled with no issues once done if this is your problem.

[Q] HTC HD7 does not support 3G netowrk

I recently purchased an unlocked HTC HD7 from Ebay. Its At&T phone. My area is covered by 3G services but only "E" is shown beside the network bars on the phone. I have tried ##3282## and switched on 3G only. When i do this, it automatically switches to Emergency calls i.e. It does not support 3G at all. i cannot make any calls after i switch to 3G only. I have tried manually updated the OS from 7.5 to 7.8 from instructions provided by xda developers but it still does not seem to work. Under Settings, cellular, there is no option for 3G. Please Help

LG G5 Nougat 7.0 - roaming mobile data issue

Hello,
I'm having trouble using my phone in roaming. My home mobile provider is Vip net., in Croatia. I'm currently in England, and my phone is currently connected to Vodafone network, which a partner of Vip.
I'm unable to get mobile data connection unless I'm connected to Vodafone 4G network. When I do a manual scan of networks, I can see (most of the time) three instances of each network (4G/WCDMA/GSM). Whenever my phone decides to switch from 4G to WCDMA or GSM, I lose the mobile connection.
APN is of course set correctly since otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect to the network on 4G (I've even had my provider send me the APN configuration message to make sure that's correct - I also tried various modifications to settings of the same).
I've talked with my providers technical support and they haven't been able to provide me with a solution, so I'm wondering if anyone here might have a clue about what is happening?
I've tried doing some basic diagnostic with adb, but haven't been able to gather much from modem logs, which I've attached here, and I would be grateful if anyone would take a look.
Here is the log, please note that it starts with me turning on mobile data and ends with me turning it off:

The phone in question is LG G5, Android 7.0 Nougat, Stock rom. (I had the same issue on 6.0)
Thanks guys!
