my recommendation is to not revert to froyo 2.2, instead you can revert to stock gingerbread 2.3.X , default flash images for odin are available on the net...and they should flash without any problem, as long as your phone is not hard bricked...

What are downsides if any of reverting to froyo?

There are, and pretty big ones, you will primarily loose the compatibility with a LOT of apps, not to mention that the downgrade of the Android framework would screw up the way you'r phone will behave.
So, basically, the biggest downsides: You will not be able to run MOST apps.
Hell, you wont even be able to run Play Store.
As i remember Play Store is 2.3+
You will still have "Android Market"
To make this shorter, DO NOT DOWNGRADE!

Did you use the Odin one-click download to re-install the Original OS? There is no file to load - just one big 300MB Odin file.
If you can't get this done, then I doubt you will be able to put the i9000 firmware on - it requires you to use Odin and is more complicated.

How did you try to install the market.apk? Am guessing it would have to be sideloaded as I doubt it's a standard market app, and of course AT&T cripples the ability to load non-market apps natively.

yes i used the one click downloader and i follow all the directions it has on the thread but when i go through the process my phone doesnt show up and i've tried it may different ways and when it does show up nothing has worked it always goes to file analysis then after a few seconds it says fail
could you possibly tell me or show me a walk through of how you use it because i may be doing something wrong that the odin thread isn't telling me
plus do you use the .exe .rar or .zip? not that i think it would matter

i found a market.apk file searching online and put it on my sd card and tried to run it from there because thats what i used to do with my pure and .cab files so i figured i would give it a shot on the captivate

[Q] About CM7

I have Kyrillos Mod 7.0 now.. non oc.. If i flash CM7 with it preinstalled (not talkin about dual boot) will CM7 replace it?
Yes it will
Flashing means replacing files in the nand chip in the phone i.e. Replacing the current rom

Sos! Help asap! What do i do now?
I have a problem. First off, I'm a newb to android stuff and don't know a whole lot(especially technical terms like bootloader, flashing, etc.). But after researching online and reading some forums, i really want to update my phone to gingerbread because the HK froyo version can't get flash or most froyo apps.
When i heard the CM GB ROM, i downloaded odin and flashed it. Afterwards, the rom manager clockworld page popup and i rebooted the phone off course. Now everytime i boot up my phone, it gets stuck on the CM7 logo page and keeps loading and reloading for 30 sec. and continue to popup and do the whole sequence again. HELP PLEASE! THIS IS MY ONLY PHONE AND MY MOM IS GONNA KILL ME IF SHE FIND OUT! If theres a way, please tell me.
P.S- I am very stupid so please explain in simple way but elaborate details. I appreciate all the help i can get

Try to flash some stable FROYO Rom first. Kryillos ROM 8.2.1 is very Good ROM to flash. And you will get the same feel of gingerbread in it unless ofcourse you want to see 2.3.4/2.3.5 on your phone try flashing CM7alpha 6 allover again. Hope this helps.
Hit Thanks if i helped you in anyway.

return to stock, USB port borken?

As the title suggests, my USB has not been working for about two weeks, and I finally have time to look into this more. Seems nothing is working... tried drivers from PDANet, different cables, different PC everything. It was working one day and than not the next. Anyhow, is there a way I can return to stock, unrooted so I can get this repaired? Should I take the chance and bring it to Sprint anyway? I do have insurance.... perhaps that's the best way?
Thanks for help!
My best guess will be to boot onto recovery and try to restore from a backup but I'm not entirely sure (since it's for warranty) as u may need to lock the root again and I don't know if that's possible without the pc.
You can download the stock ROM to your sdcard directory using your phone's browser and flash the ROM on CWM.

If you have DropBox app, you can upload the stock ROM to www.dropbox.com and download it using your DropBox app.
Yeah, I was trying to do this yesterday, but I every download link I found has been closed.... any the link posted here doesnt include the sprint version.
man, this sucks.
mine is even worse.i cant bring it to repairs.cuz i hafe the US version of the nexus s. and im in europe..
i imported mine when it got released.
im going to post this in the Nexus S 4G development forum... seems like it's a little more active with more technical details.
I'll try and remember to post back here with what I've been able to do.

DO THIS.
seriously i had the same problem a fortnight ago and thought it was the internal sd, i formated it (didnt work) so i wiped the phone to reflash it. thats when i realized my horrible mistake; but lo and behold the usb was working again so i was able to put a rom on there and flash it. if a wipe and reflash doesnt work try a format first (remember to redownload a rom before you wipe the phone though)

[Q] Not receiving 2.3.6 OTA update on 100% stock

Hello all. I checked and no one has posted this yet so here it is. I am 100% stock on 2.3.5. I installed it through KIES so I am sure it's full stock. And it's been quite a while and I am not receiving the 2.3.6 update OTA. I don't know why. Do I have to download something? I don't know. Please help me out and thanks very much!
what did you install through kies ? do you mean Odin ? if so what tar file did you use ? did you use sammobile.com tar ? what ROM you were on previously ? did you wipe throughly before flashing stock?
Mine as well. I've received my Skyrocket already in 2.3.5 but somehow, I want to update it to 2.3.6 but whenever I check the Software update, is says that my current software is up to date. Any help please?

What happens is that samsung clntinues to pull the updates. It has beem the third time it happens. When i had my phone 100% stock i updated mine from 2.3.5
to 2.3.6 and I went online to a forum to see what had changed. Many people were complaining about it especially me. Believe me they took away stuff rather then fixing it, for example wallpaper scroll. In conclusion 2 days later people were posting" I can't get the update" "what update" it is mainly because Samsung and att pull them out. Your phones are good don't worry.

If you use the firmware upgrade and initialization option, KIES downloads and flashes stock firmware to your device.

Delete files, please wait ?????

My phone (GT-I5800) is stuck with the above message on screen.
Here is the history.
1 - Flashed XXJPU which was OK
2 - Rooted with Superoneclick which reported OK, but also reported insufficient space to install superuser and busybox.
3 - Went to Play store and downloaded superuser.
4 - Phone hung trying to install superuser.
5 - Pulled battery and phone would not boot. Just stopped at Samsung GT- I5800 splash screen.
6 - Can get into download mode OK so reflashed XXJPU
7 - ODIN reported PASS but phone gets to install screen saying "Delete files, please wait" and just sits there forever.
Hopefully someone can see my errors and help out please?
I always had errors when trying to root XXJPU as well. JPU is quite buggy for me so it might be a firmware problem. Try flashing XXJPS.

I'm using Odin 4.42 and fw from Sammobile.
I place ops package and put fw into the one file box.
Put phone into download mode and connect to PC.
Wait for yellow box then hit start
Odin returns a PASS but when phone reboots it just stops.
I think if I could get to recovery to reset and delete cache I might get some luck but can't get to recovery mode either....
Try using Odin 4.252 because that's the one I use. Download XXJPS from this thread. Make sure you have the right ops file name "apollo_0531.ops". Make sure you open Odin by right clicking and then clicking on "Run as administrator" and in Odin make sure you tick all the boxes EXCEPT the "Debug ONLY" box. Then click Start and wait and see. Also, after the ROM has been flashed the phone should automatically go into recovery and wipe the data and cache so you don't need to worry about that. Apart from what I've mentioned above, there is nothing wrong with your flashing process and everything should go smoothly.
Perfect, thanks for your time. All working normally again now
Can I ask your advice on rooting pls? Is Superoneclick OK to use?
Thanks again
Yes it is fine to superoneclick but I don't think its necessary since rooting itself doesnt affect the phone too much. You would have to root, then flash a custom kernel, add some tweaks/mods etc. to make a difference in performance so it would be much easier just staying unrooted if you are fine with the performance or just flash a custom ROM if you think the stock ROM is slow.
You should try out a CR based on Froyo. They are really advanced and give you all Froyo can give you. Fast phone, long battery live and everything works.

Its just the latest android 2.2 update for our phone but its also rooted and deodexed so it saves you the hassle. Google the benefits of deodexing if you have any issues.
