does nexus s support USB OTG? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have a otg USB cable, how can I make it work with nexus s? Do I have to root it or even flash a custom ROM in order to do so?
Thank you!

You'll need to flash a custom kernel to enable the functionality. Check the dev section to see which ones support it (Matrix kernel is one of them, there are probably others but I haven't been to this forum in awhile). You'll also need to make/buy a USB Y cable and connect an external power source, because the Nexus S doesn't supply enough voltage from its USB port.
TBH it's not really worth the effort.

Micro Usb Host adapter help

I need a little help.
I want attach usb flash to my htc desire phone, and found
Micro usb host otg adapter and order same.
Because this adapter out of stock, I must choose another, and I found two similar:
1-USB to Micro USB Adapter
2-Micro USB Male to USB Female OTG Cable for Samsung Galaxy S2..
What you think, which adapter or cable is better to buy 1 or 2?
I don't know whether it will work on desire phone?
hmm which rom are you using to enable usb host on htc desire?
I using InsertCoin rom, but I don't know is usb host enabled.
If not enabled, I can flash kernel...
ah ok.. do you know what kernel?
back to the topic, i think both are the same.. i have one similar to http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-...-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-nokia-n8-more-101894 that i use for my hp touchpad ... but i need to use a Y-cable to power my flashdrive as the touchpad does not output power.. and i think the htc desire does not output power too
I need additonal output power?
I don't think about this....
Where I can get this Y-cable?
If I attach usb hub, maybe power cable not important, because usb hub have aditional adapter?
Or I must buy better battery?
Hi yeap you need powered usb hub and theres no sense kernel with usb host enabled yet, its working with cyanogen roms ...
Sent from my HTC Desire
But if I get stronger battery, I don't need additional power?

unfortunately no... it's not to do with the battery capacity but with the htc desire's hardware which does not ouput power through its micro usb port... so the usb devices won't get any power from it to operate.... you need an external power input...
i am not sure if usb host work properly... have tried it on the roms i used but none seemed to work.
USB host not working
I confirm: USB host not working on folowing ROM: MIUI XJ, CyanogenMOD, SuperNova, Redux2 ZM, InsertCoin and Oxygen.
I have a similar usb adapter (2), it works ok with a Prestigio MultiPad 3384B, without USB powered hub.

It isn't true! The USB Host feature works with Cyanogenmod rom, if you use the host enabled kernel and load the necessary modules. I have used it with a mini SD reader and with a mini 1,8" samsung S1 winchester. The Y cable was a homemade cable, the usbe powersource was the mobile charger itshelf.
If anyone want to use the USBHost mode on Desire see this thred:

direct OTG cable will never work in atrix2, you have to use Y cable or powered hub to mount flash drive or any device like keyboard or mouse.
any how you have to give external power for mounting device in atrix2

[Q]{USB OTG}

Hello guys,
I was wondering if usb otg works on android one.
But as i tested with cable..it isnt working..
So i installed a 'usb otg checker' app from market.
The test gave me a positive result..that means the phone suppprts usb host mode.
But is disabled in kernel.
So my question is can usb otg mode be enabled WITHOUT rooting and changing kernel.
Cause i dont want to root my phone as am satisfied with the features i am getting and also waiting for official android update.
Plz help me in this topic.. Otg check result attached in attachments.
Thank you.

info bout otg

Can anyone tell me if modification in kernel will turn usb otg working or not.
I know that otg is supported by hardware.
But in a nexus 4 moded kernel usb otg is mentioned to be working, i tried installing that but somehow it wont install.

Is it possible? (OTG and device problem)

Is it possible to connect a mouse/keyboard/anything else using OTG cable to a device that isn't supported OTG cable... But, the device was rooted... Can i do something to make my device supported OTG cable to use mouse or keyboard? Please respond!!! I need answers!!!!
Use a Bluetooth keyboard it should work fine

It depends, some devices have the hardware to support OTG but they don't have the software to support OTG. These devices can add the software to support OTG then they can use OTG.
But some device don't have the hardware to support OTG, these devices can't use OTG at all, no matter what is modified. They just don't have the necessary hardware so they can't use it.
Your device might have the hardware but doesn't have the software.
You can try the Stick Mount app by Chainfire in PlayStore, if your device has the hardware to support OTG then this app should allow OTG to work.
