direct OTG cable will never work in atrix2, you have to use Y cable or powered hub to mount flash drive or any device like keyboard or mouse.
any how you have to give external power for mounting device in atrix2

[Q] SR not recognizing USB flash drive?

I bought one of these for my OG SGS2, and it worked flawlessly... just plugged in and phone recognized my USB flash drive... showed up under /sdcard/usbstorage, and could easily transfer files back and forth.

I returned the OG SGS2 for the i727-SR a few days ago. However, for some reason the i727-SR does not recognize my USB flash drive like the OG did. Is there some other setting I'm missing? Anyone tried a USB Female to USB Micro Adapter on the SR to read a flash drive? Thx
you need a kernel for "USB on the GO"

So the OG GS2 stock kernel has this... but the i727-SR stock kernel does not?
Works fine on mine. Has to be an otg cable and not a gender changer.
Here's the thing... I have 2 of those cables.. both work fine with the i777 OG-GS2 (once connected, the "USB Device Connected" icon in pull-down appears and stays so you can disconnect later). However, on the i727-SR, when I connect the Sandisk flash drive (8Gb), it says "USB Device Connected"... "Media Scanning Completed", but the USB icon does not appear in pull down. When I open files with Root Explorer, I can see /sdcard/usbstorage/SDA folder, but no files in the folder. On the flash drive I have 162mb used and 7.31 GB free; but when in the SR /sdcard/usbstorage/SDA folder it reads "0k used, 392.22mb Free". Can it be a hardware on the SR or something inherently different in the SR kernel vs the OG-Gs2 kernel?

Interesting... you can read a USB flash drive on your Skyrocket? Are you running stock ROM/Kernel? I just got off the phone with Samsung Support and they shared that the i727 Skyrocket does not support OTG USB Host enablement (i.e., won't read a USB Flash Drive).

Do you have a Skyrocket? Cause your tag says you have an SGS2.
updated. Yes, was using Melvin stock, which is stock kernel, restoring stock nandroid and will check again...

just tried on rooted stock, works fine.
still confused whether or not the skyrocket supports USB OTG. Can anyone else confirm or deny this?

USB host mode is working great. but now how....

I just received my micro usb host mode cable and it works great. I can transfer files between my phone and my usb flash drive.
Now I'd like to create a link on the main screen of the phone that points to the folder of the usb flash drive. "mnt/scdard/usbstorage/sda"
How can I do that?
thanks.
What kernel are you running? I know the stock 2.3.6 kernel does not have OTG USB HOST enabled.

Interesting to hear you say that. I have a stock Skyrocket running 2.3.6 and I can access a thumb drive or a CF card in a USB card reader with a simple adapter cable.

wow... interesting you have OTG enabled on the stock SR 2.3.6 boot.img (kernel). From what I understood from the developers who have "OTG host enabled" on their respective custom kernel, you need to recompile the kernel to enable OTG support. Did you have a custom ROM/Kernel previously flashed on your phone? I've tried multiple USB flash drives... and multiple OTG cables... and can't get them recognized by my SR-I727... however, same USB flash drive and cables recognize my GS2-I777 and I can transfer files on that phone. I took the AT&T 2.3.6 OTA update, and as stated, it doesn't seem to have OTG enabled.
OP: To answer your OP question on how to add a shortcut on your homescreen to a specific folder... download "ES FILE EXPLORER" free in Market... navigate to the folder you want a shortcut to... then long press that folder and select "shortcut". This will place a folder shortcut on your homescreen. Hope that helps.

Micro Usb Host adapter help

I need a little help.
I want attach usb flash to my htc desire phone, and found
Micro usb host otg adapter and order same.
Because this adapter out of stock, I must choose another, and I found two similar:
1-USB to Micro USB Adapter
2-Micro USB Male to USB Female OTG Cable for Samsung Galaxy S2..
What you think, which adapter or cable is better to buy 1 or 2?
I don't know whether it will work on desire phone?
hmm which rom are you using to enable usb host on htc desire?
I using InsertCoin rom, but I don't know is usb host enabled.
If not enabled, I can flash kernel...
ah ok.. do you know what kernel?
back to the topic, i think both are the same.. i have one similar to http://www.dealextreme.com/p/micro-...-samsung-galaxy-s2-i9100-nokia-n8-more-101894 that i use for my hp touchpad ... but i need to use a Y-cable to power my flashdrive as the touchpad does not output power.. and i think the htc desire does not output power too
I need additonal output power?
I don't think about this....
Where I can get this Y-cable?
If I attach usb hub, maybe power cable not important, because usb hub have aditional adapter?
Or I must buy better battery?
Hi yeap you need powered usb hub and theres no sense kernel with usb host enabled yet, its working with cyanogen roms ...
Sent from my HTC Desire
But if I get stronger battery, I don't need additional power?

unfortunately no... it's not to do with the battery capacity but with the htc desire's hardware which does not ouput power through its micro usb port... so the usb devices won't get any power from it to operate.... you need an external power input...
i am not sure if usb host work properly... have tried it on the roms i used but none seemed to work.
USB host not working
I confirm: USB host not working on folowing ROM: MIUI XJ, CyanogenMOD, SuperNova, Redux2 ZM, InsertCoin and Oxygen.
I have a similar usb adapter (2), it works ok with a Prestigio MultiPad 3384B, without USB powered hub.

It isn't true! The USB Host feature works with Cyanogenmod rom, if you use the host enabled kernel and load the necessary modules. I have used it with a mini SD reader and with a mini 1,8" samsung S1 winchester. The Y cable was a homemade cable, the usbe powersource was the mobile charger itshelf.
If anyone want to use the USBHost mode on Desire see this thred:

Yeah, we know it's broken... it has been mentioned 1000 times this is broken in Marshmallow just like it was before the last Lollipop update, just have to wait for Moto to fix it.
There was one post where someone said they got it working in ES File Explorer and an external powered hub, something like you connect it with power, then disconnect power and connect the flash drive or something like that, but most people couldn't duplicate it. Google might help.

Nice... the US version does not work.
XT 1543, the Brazilian version does not work too.
Just to update my experience, today I updated from the last soak to the release Marshmallow on my XT1540. OTG works fine and I'm able to connect to my SanDisk 32GB flash drive. I've never had a problem with OTG in Marshmallow.

Are u able to view otg pendrive files in es explorer?
Use ES File Explorer And You Are Done.. It has a seperate option for USB.. If It is not showing in system, NO PROBLEM.. U can Still USE it..

Otg funtionality....

So i got a bunch of on the go cables. And wanted to see what the stylus could do.
So far ive hooked a 160 gb otg hard drive. Works decently.
2. Ps3 control for gaming.
3 flash drives. Of coarse this works.
4. Usb ob2 interface for scanning automobile ecus. Works better than g4 if i might add.
5. A old logitech wingman joystick. Works on some flight simulators.
I also ordered a while back a fastboot cable for my kindle. When i plug in on ms631 from power off no commands needed boots straight to fastboot mode
Im gonna make a pair of vr goggles prob this weekend and see if this screens good enough for vr. Did it on my g3 and g4. And it was killer
How did you get you're OTG to function? I plug in a 8gb flash drive to mines and it doesn't work for me I'm using the T-Mobile version MM.

Has anyone figured out how to get OTG to work on the T-mobile LG G Stylo with Marshmallow? Mine has the latest stock 20c software (H63120c). I use OTG with my FLIR One Android, my SDRPlay, and my RTL-SDR stick, and it would be sad if I have to still use my old Xperia Z for all that.

This page seems to say that adding the file android.hardware.usb.host.xml to /system/etc/permissions will enable USB host mode. Has anyone tried adding this file to a T-Mobile or Metro PCS Marshmallow phone? I haven't rooted my T-mobile Marshmallow phone yet, but I will if I root access will allow me to enable OTG.

Update: Has anyone with T-mobile or MetroPCS Marshmallow and root tried this app, or manually making the changes that this app applies, to see if it will get OTG to work: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.tauruslabs.usbhostcheck

I haven't rooted mine yet, but I might now that it might be possible to enable OTG.
I gave up, and got a used "mint" LG V20 for cheap, which has OTG support built in. My LG G Stylo will be used by someone who has no idea what OTG is.
Besides "usb.host" to your permissions xml's, setprop "sys.usb.configfs=1" & "sys.usb.config=*" in dev options must be set right. Init.qcom.usb.rc told me what I needed to get mtp & adb working together.
