[Q] N5 Sleep/wake - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I haven't found any posts confirming or denying that the Nexus 5 has a sleep/wake function like the Nexus 7. I also seen some cases on amazon saying they have the sleep/wake capability: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Strapback-Protective-Function-Manufacturer/dp/B00FNWM48G and http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-Slimbook-Function-Manufacturer-Warranty/dp/B00FNWM41I
Can anyone confirm there is this function and where the magnet is located?
Thanks :good:

And you, do you know where is the magnet on the Nexus 7. I received mine with the original Asus case without this function.

On the Nexus 7 it does have the sleep/wave function it sits about 4cm from the bottom left
Although the stock N7 (2012) case did not have the sleep/wake magnet built into it. I dont know why since it comes straight from Google.

No... It is sitting on the pad. I mounted the pad on a RAM mount diamond plate using 3M double sided adhesive tape. I then used some low compression, rubber weather stripping to form the "U" to cradle the phone. Fits like a glove and works perfect.
Total cost... 3 bucks (I already had the RAM hardware), a trip to Home Depot, and about a half hour of my time.
Looking at the pic, it's hard to tell if the power button is covered or not. If not, it looks good. Just get a nfc tag and setup everything. If it is, wouldn't it be more of a pain to get access for waking the phone up?
Just curious but excellent innovation.

The "U" comes up to just 1/4 inch below the power button, and that same clearance for the volume rocker.
I actually use a Tasker location profile so no nfc tag necessary.
Took it for its first extended test drive yesterday and it works well. Phone is very secure, and easily removed and replaced with one hand.

[Q] Kind of paint to use on Nexus 5?

Hello,
I was wondering if there was any knowleadgeable painting artists in the vicinity?
I saw a white Nexus 5's X painted with the Nexus colors and I really liked it. My N5 is black, but I guess it would be as awesome. Anyhoo, what kind of paint should I use on that kind of rubber? It has to be resistant to friction as I don't have [yet] a cover case.
Thanks a lot!
I think "debrand" or "xgear" is the thing u r searching for.
That's a kind of skin for ur phone.
Just check the Nexus Accessoires section or Google it, to get more information.

I think I've badly explained what I wanted to achive. I'd like to paint only the 4 carved lines forming the X on the back of the N5. You know, like this:

Thanks for your answer, I'll look into these skins if I can't find what I want.

Is there any 3rd party equivalent to this? I want the smart window functionality via NFC. It would be great to know beforehand so that I have something else to choose from.

This is not "via NFC" (except for pairing), the smart window is detected with a magnet.
Ok I stand corrected. But yes, something like that.

There are lots but with no Smart Window functionality.

I got a SCR42, and to be honest it's not THAT useful
I have the original case SCR42 and for me it is very functional when it comes to the window. Especially if someone is calling. Then you can see right away, and you can answer or reject the call without opening the case.
If you want to quickly take a picture, it does not need to open the case, because the preview is scaled to the window.
i bought it and don't like it. It lacks one of the main functions. there is no Access to phone book or at least speed dial/favourites and you have to open the case to make a call.
i removed it and bought panzerglass (tempered glass) + TPU and face an even bigger problem. panzerglass presses on the proximity sensor and the screen goes blacj during a call.
honestly the phone Works best without any accessorries. Save your money.

[xposed mod request] soft keys blocker for water

Hi all, today I tried to take some photos and videos in the pool, the results are awesome but often the soft keys are "touched" form water opening multitasking or stopping videos... Someone can make a mod to lock soft keys while recording? So if someone record a video underwater, the video won't stop until we press the volume buttons! It's just for fun but can be very useful thanks to all!
I found a little trick for now if someone interested, using gravitybox and assign to "none" the soft keys... But it's not a definitive way... Hope someone can do the magic

Indeed but if you must, get yourselves some waterproof cases.
Not expensive and peace of mind.

I've used it for about 30 minutes (in more steps, not continuous) at 1 meter and it's almost perfect, and very clean now

Lost option for timed silence

There was an option in the watch pull-down quick settings screen that allowed me to put the watch to sleep for one, two, three hours, etc. Great for movie's or work meetings. Part of the OS.
It's gone now, the spot on the quick settings screen that it used to sit in is just empty, the second row, bottom right. See attached photo.
Anyone know why it's gone and how to get it back? Making me crazy...

Thanks. I tried turning on all sounds (ring, notification, media, system) up but the option is still missing.
Any other ideas? I've reset my watch a couple times some the last FW update so that doesn't look like a way to fix this.
Do you still have the feature?

OMG You're a genius. Thanks. Why the heck they removed it during the FW update I'll never know.
Thanks!
