I'm with Koodo carrier and I'm not satisfied with my Samsung Galaxy Ace IIx. Here is what they offer, for a replacement (which I can afford) for now (price is in canadian money): Moto G (150$), HTC Desire 601 (300$), Nexus 4 16go (300$), Samsung Galaxy S III (300$), Galaxy S4 mini (300$). I like the Moto G, for its price, but it lack support for microsd card and it's a bummer. If I want something with microsd support, I need to buy something like HTC Desire or Galaxy S3. I also want to be able to install CyanogenMOD so I think the Galaxy S3 would be a good choice. What do you think? I could get an HTC Desire 601 for the same price, but information about custom rom support is sparse.

The S III beats the S4 mini in almost everything except ram since it has 512mb more which makes a difference. All in all I would go for a Nexus 4 out of all of them. For one it has a better display than all of them(318ppi). It also has a quad core proccessor and 2gb of ram. Down side it again the storage. 8gb internal memory so if memory would be an issue then I would look into something else. Nexus 4 also gets android updates first since it is a google device. So you are going to have to trade in the power and perks of the nexus 4 if you want more storage. If you want everything balanced out then a S III would be the way to go.

I'd love to have the Nexus 4 but does it have support for microsd?
Once again your going to have to trade off. Nexus 4 downside is no SD slot. So if you want storage your best bet is the SIII. But then you lose 1gb of ram which is quite Alot and the processor of the Nexus is pretty good. S4 mini you lose half of the ram you do with the SIII but also two cores.

Personally, I'd go with the S4 & I'd be wary about buying an S3 this late in the game. I've had the S3 since the week it came out in the states and I'm just about to upgrade myself.

It's an S4 Mini, only has a dual core proccessor and the battery life on an s3 is better with 4 cores.
I just bought the S3 yesterday, for someone like me who always had cheap cellphone (my first smartphone was a first gen Galaxy Ace), I can tell you it's a beast compared to what I used in the past. Also, I had to choose something which I can afford, the S4 wasn't affordable for me.

Hello all,
I will keep this short. I'm looking for a new phone. Please, make recommendations based on the requirements.
Current phone: iPhone4 32GB Black (Which I will also be looking to sell or trade.)
New phone requirements:
Android 2.3 or newer
AT&T or unlockable with 850/1900MHz 3G support
Expandable external memory up to 64GB (would accept memory 32 external with 16 internal if 64 isn't possible, but I don't really want to go down that road.)
Good development/customization support (Nothing with a locked bootloader or something similar)
Good screen resolution or dpi
Good performance and battery life
Thanks!
if you're ok with the android line, i would suggest the Samsung Galaxy S2 (voted best phone of the year on XDA). If you're lucky, you can get your hands on a 32GB version and throw a 32GB microSD at it.
the phone has everything (huge storage, thin as hell, hdmi out, usb host mode, beautiful screen, snappy processor) and it will definitely get the latest android soon.
Samsung Galaxy Nexus Highly Recommended , HTC Sensation XL , Motorola RAZR XT910 SUPER SLIM
Samsung galaxy S2, I just got mine about 3 days ago and I am LOVING it.
Rooted, flashed, ready to go
I'm afraid to go with Motorola again since they screwed everyone around with a locked bootloader on the Atrix. I've never been a fan of HTC's UI, but if they are good phones I will keep them in consideration. Galaxy S II looks like a solid phone. What's the diff between the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Nexus? Thanks!
Yea I'd vouch for Samsung Galaxy S2 (International version) for it's sleekness unless you like one of the variants available here in the states. I have like 2 batteries from Anker and 1 from the original packaging. Back to back batteries quite handy on trips.
I used to be own the iPhone 4 and still work with them now and then for friends and families. You'll be totally spoiled by the usage of Adobe Flash and screen size. I held an iPhone 4S recently and I actually can't STAND the small screen >.> SGS2 screen isn't overwhelmingly big and it's great to watch HD videos.
Hmmm I could go on and on. Oh one more thing, you'll love the wide selection of roms and customization that comes along with the Android family. I'm personally just waiting for Samsung to give us Android Ice Cream as they had mentioned fairly recently early November I believe.
That's it unless you have questions

galaxy nexus !
One important difference between the sgs2 and the g nexus is that the sgs2 has the same resolution as the first generation of 1ghz phones life the nexus one and funny enough the galaxy s. It is 480x800 iirc. the newer phones have more! It looks bad seeing the same resolution in bigger screen.

Galaxy S2 is best one so far. if you want to wait a little, android phones with ICS will be coming out soon, but the Galaxy S2 is up-gradable to the ICS as well. so your choice.
Good Luck!
Samsung galaxy S II, of course
Thanks for all of the replies! I read the comparison article, and I was almost sold on the Nexus until I got to #8. No expandable memory? Wtf? That's one of the main reasons I am getting rid of my iCrap4. I have the 32G and it's completely full. I can't even fit my entire library on it anymore. Looks like I can get up to 64G on the S2 though.
i think 16G is enough, most files can keep in PC
Seen what you are looking for, I concur: Samsung Galaxy S II is what you "want"...
...and yes 16GB is plenty.

I think Galaxy S2 won, but how do you use 32GB? I mean, how many musics, movies and photos do you keep on your phone? If lots of photos and videos, why you can't keep the older photos you took in the PC? Or the videos, do you really watch them at least once a week? Or musics, you really listen to all of them, or you jump to the next half of them? Apps, I know, iApps are so big.
Musics, I have 100 music on my 4 Gb SD Card, some videos, some backups and one ext2 lost partitions, with 2.1 Gb left. My device is low end, so low memory and small screen. I will buy the rumored Xperia Nozomi. I made one big mistake buying this Xperia X10 Mini Pro.

I'm currently on the captivate (galaxy s1) and I love it. I've only spent about 30 seconds on the s2 and it feels even better than the first. Definitally gonna be sticking with samsung on phones in the future.
+1 for SGS2, I have one and HTC Sensation and, Samsung Nexus (new one) And i still prefer the SGS2 and i would rather have the SGS2 than the Nexus when i get ICS running properly on it.

I got around $500 bucks to spend.... and in my price range I have 2 options.
Galaxy S2 or the Galaxy Nexus.
I'm not sure which, all i know is my wife who has the Galaxy S2 has a lot of trouble with games, and the Nexus has a powerVR in, slower but more compatible.
S2 or Galaxy Nexus? (i'm not fussed about the 5mp camera on the nexus)
Which is more hackable of the 2 i guess lol or maybe i should wait for the Quad Core Beast from Samsung to drive the prices down a bit more...
If you are willing to get a used phone you have alot more options than just those two phones you mentioned. Look in the marketplace

Depends which S2 your wife has. If she has the T-Mobile one or the AT&T Skyrocket, there's your problem. Those have Snapdragons in them, which suck for gaming. They're not real Galaxy S II's. They're only branded that way to make people buy them. Only the Sprint Epic 4G Touch and the AT&T i777 (Galaxy S II) have the original Exynos chip with the Mali GPU (the one in the real GSII i9100).
If you want a high res display with no microSD slot (16/32GB for GSM/CDMA models respectively) and pure mod-ability, get the Galaxy Nexus. It's pretty good for gaming, but it probably won't handle the next generation of games as well as the GS2. The Galaxy S II has a better GPU and processor, but a lower res screen (which actually means better performance), and 16GB + MicroSD card slot, and a camera that rivals the iPhone 4S's.
They both have great development communities, and all GSII variants are getting ICS officially. (the i9100 already has it). If you want a phone that will 100% get Jelly Bean officially, go for the GNexus.
Gaming/Media-oriented -> Galaxy S II
Pure mod-ability -> Galaxy Nexus
A Galaxy Nexus from Expansys I think is $399, no tax. I know the Google Play store is selling it for the same price, but with tax here in NY that's $450. You should be able to pick up either phone for around $400.
have u considered xperia S?

The screen isn't that much larger on the nexus as it has the soft buttons which render the screen to be almost the same size as the s2. However, the nexus has a higher pixel density whereas the s2 exceeds in contrast ratios and looks better in my eyes

Nexus, without any doubt

You can consider also HTC Sentation XL
try out galaxy nexus.
Although the Galaxy Nexus would be the usual choice, I honestly suggest that you check both phones' Specs carefully.
While Nexus's display is quite nice and it is "more famous" than the S2, in terms of processor or camera, there's no reason not to choose the latter.
Also, you should consider the release of ICS and CM9 for the S2.
One things I'll chime in from my personal experience against the "pure modability" aka Nexus- the best experience I've had with my S2 was on the old, stock ATT rom with the clockwork mod recovery in the stock kernel. All the custom roms I've tried, above all, that the WORST battery life.
So while you'll be able to get more, useless modability out of a Nexus, S2 will work like a champ right out of the box without ANY issues.

hi guys
i want to buy a galaxy S2
so should i buy one form At&T or T-Mo or Sprint or globel verson ????
Why buy a S2 when S3 was just released? Or you could buy the HTC One X.
wait for the S3 to come. and the htc one-phones are probably a bit better than the s2. but max. a bit
WAIT for the global galaxy sIII to be released and then buy that
samsung s2
Buy a Galaxy Note
I would Buy a Galaxy note as i had a brand new nexus with official ics and sold it and bourght a note and couldnt go back to a smaller screen then ive rooted and flashed stunner ics i woudnt swap it for any phone now i have a quadrant score of 44130 blows my nexus out the water.massive thanks to all at xda as i knew nothing about phone development untill i stumbled apon this forum and now im flashing custom ics roms
If you must get a GS2, go for the "Skyrocket" model, it's CPU is clocked to 1.5 versus all other models being clocked at 1.2
thanks for the advise but you guys change the topic
i think that S3 is not very impress compare to S2 with the price 600 euro
guys on here telling you get s3.... is nothing so special about s3 apart from faster cpu ....and the design of s2 is much better than s3
Go with tmobile and save yourself some money...
Which phone should I buy now?
I've had the HTC Wildfire since last year but I'm getting pretty bored of it now because of the slow processor, graphics and small screen.
Basically, I need a big screen, good camera(capable of HD recording), nice multimedia features and a decent processor in my next phone.
I'm thinking of getting the Sony Ericsson Xperia Neo V. Is it a good phone or should I go for something else?
Galaxy S3.
Easy, Global, more development and support. But Galaxy Nexus would make better sense with updates
Sent from my HTC One X
I'd also go for global for the dev/support.
If you have already invested tons into micro sdcard, go for sgs3, note or sgs2.
If not and you want style at the expense of no storage/battery upgrade options .. go for one x.
Samsung Galaxy SII even if for samsung upgrade reason maybe I'll chose HTC One X
Just buy the samsung galaxy siii.. man.. that phone is awesome .. just like a portable computer..

I'm planning on buying a new phone this April after my exams.
My budget is real tight, and it goes upto INR18000-19000 tops ($350 approx by today's rate). I have found A nexus s for real cheap, in new condition on a site. Should I go for it, or should I wait for the s3 mini? Nexus S is a great phone, and as long as it gets the KLP (5.0) update from CM, I have no problem with it.
Please advise me. Thanks a bunch in advance!!

Get a Galaxy S2 i9100. It's around $300 and a much better buy. If you can afford it, get a Note N7000. 16GB storage, plus MicroSD card slot, SAMOLED Plus display (Non-Pentile), Dual-Core Exynos 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM (very important, as the Nexus S only has 512MB), 8MP camera that is known to be amazing.
It's a better phone. I would pick the S2 i9100 over the Nexus S, or even get the AT&T Galaxy S2 i777. It's the same exact phone as the i9100, except it also has NFC and a slightly different button layout (all capacitive keys instead of a physical home button).
THE AT&T VERSION IS ONLY $200-300. Some are even going for $200! Definitely get it. It's an amazing device that can run i9100 (same hardware) with a few tweaks. It has tons and tons of development.

It doesn't matter. Just get an unlock code for it for cheap. It's a GSM phone just like any other.
Nexus S is so outdated - please don't buy it. Google has stopped support for it and also similar hardware you can get better phones for ~10K rs. If you don't want much developer / ROM support, there are many options:
AT&T Pantech Burst - get through eBay Global Easy Buy - my current phone, just awesome and available < 10K from GEB. (I got mine used for $75 through a friend coming from USA)
Huawei Snapdragon S2 models - IDEOS X5 / Honor / IDEOS X5 Pro - most are very good and are great value for money in ~10K
HTC One V - another Snapdragon S2 model with ICS - great phone, but a bit expensive at ~15-16K
Xperia models based on NovaThor dualcore in sub-15K are also good.
I have my Nexus S for about a year and a half. With some custom rom, in my opinion it's still comparable with most of the other stuff out there.
Anyway I would rather take the GNex and in a year, there will still be some developer whos building some great rom for your phone.

I don't think I'm selling my i9300. Yes, the S4's specs look attrative (Google it, someone with an S4 ran AnTuTu benchmark). It supposidely has an Exynos 5410, 2GB RAM, LTE, and a PowerVR 544 GPU. But honestly, I think it's gotten to a point where the S3 onwards are powerful "enough." I game heavily on my phone, but I don't feel like blowing money on an S4 when the S3 does everything I want:
- Powerful CPU/GPU (at least for the international model)
- I wish I had 2GB of RAM, but 1GB is enough, and I could just buy a Note 2 if anything.
- Memory card slot
- USB OTG
- FM Radio (International model)
- Great camera
Plus Samsung brought Jelly Bean to the GS2 i9100, so that means we're going to be up to date with the S3. I feel like the S3 just came out, and there's no point to buying the S4 unless you skipped the S3.
I still have my galaxys1 b***** runs better than 99% of these new smart phones
