Media Server wakelock caused by Snapchat - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've seen some people having trouble with the "Mediaserver" sucking up their battery on the Moto g. I found out what is is, but I don't know how to fix it.
It's caused by a wakelock called "qcamera2factory" and it always starts when I use Snapchat, an app most of you guys should know and probably use. So the "qcamera2factory" starts every time I open Snapchat for the first time after forcing to "kill" Media Server with an app called "Mediaserver killer" and if I don't kill it that way, it just keeps on adding time to the "keep wake" on the battery screen.
It sucks that I can't use Snapchat and I really want a fix for it. Can someone on here help me with this?
Thanks in advance, I would really apreciate it!

fyi: I don't have snapchat but the last 2 days I had the same wakelock from qcamera2factory, solved by clearing data on media storage, force stopping camera and gallery and a reboot, since I don't have root atm.

What do you mean by clearing data and forece stopping gallery? Thanks for your reply

settings/applications/all, search for the names I mentioned, and click on them and you will see the 'clear data' and 'force close' buttons

It's not caused by Snapchat, it just appears sometimes when you use the camera. I had this wakelock twice and in both cases I was just making photos, I don't have Snapchat installed.

Happened to me with Focal (beta) camera, and skype. Seems to be something buggy with camera apps

Had this wakelock as well. Turned out to be Skype. Uninstalled and everything Is good.
Who'da thunk a Microsoft app would degrade the performance of an Android phone?

[Q] Spontanous Issue with Google Voice Not opening

Doesn't seem like there is a specific forum for google voice (there probably should be)
Recently I have the most annoying of issues. Seems google voice will not open. I did the usual trouble shooting. Uninstalling google voice, deleting the data, re installing from market several times. Still has the issue where I click on the icon, it flashes up, then the app disappears. Its kind of like giving me a taste. Trouble is I am on prepaid and completely using google voice so this is essential for me.. It literally takes me about 20 times of clicking the icon for it the app to pop up and stay up.
Any thoughts on this? I have no other issues with any other apps. Well once yesterday messaging did this, but it only flashed once..
I installed an app called watchdog lite earlier this week. Thinking perhaps it was that app I added google voice to the "white list" but it wont stay up. Most annoying. I have no other task killer (ATK, etc) or anything. And actually watchdog just monitors CPU usage, will not kill apps.
Thanks!
For future reference this issue seems like a permissions fix is the solution.

Phone's really laggy

My Sensation XE is really laggy because of Google+ (EsService). How can I tell? Well, I found out late by running a CPU % monitor. Google+ didn't show up much activity, only spikes. But I discovered that once I killed the EsService from Google+, my phone was practically VERY fluent and fast. Has anyone encountered this? I'm using a Stock ROM.
Another peculiar situation: everytime syncing occured my phone would almost freeze every 2 seconds. I discovered that Google+ spend a lot of time syncinc so i disabled it. After disabling it, I no long experience this issue while sync occurs.
tried clearing cache?

if you have put a lot of apps to sync while connecting to internet try to disable any that are unnecessary or
maybe many apps are running in the background
me personally i am using also app quarantine app to lock some apps that i don't need(most system apps)

I just told you that Google+ was the problem with sync. Everything's ok after I removed it from sync.
Have you tried removing all the bloatware etc? Use Startup Manager and disable any crap.

I don't got many bloatware, but they are disabled in any case. This only happens when i see the EsService in task manager, it doesn't appear ONLY at startup, so a startup manager won't help.
I removed Google+ and now my phone has been like revived. Finally no more "lag" spikes.

Wakelock Detector Help (the App)

Hey, I was wondering if someone could give me some insights on why Wakelock Detector refuses to open for me now.
I've been using it for about a month now but all of a sudden when I go to open it it says "Unfortunetely Wakelock Detector
has stopped". Im on a Nexus 5, rooted, stock w/xposed,gravitybox and a couple other modules. .....Ive uninstalled WLD, reinstalled it
, cleared the data, everything I can think of....
Anyone know why this is happening??

Bump, anyone??
Have you tried clearing app data, or reinstalling?

You get the xposed module to allow battery stats for android 4.4? That's what I had to do.

I did, but no luck unfortunately... It will work for a minute perhaps then crash and keep giving me the "unfortunately wakelock detector has stopped" or whatever it says... . Any other ideas???

Yes I do! Better battery stats works fine but I really enjoy wakelock det. app.
Is there anything else I could be missing? Im completely stock other than Xposed and Franco Kernal. Could there be anything else messing with its operation to open and function properly??
Same problem here too. Can't get Wake lock Detector to open, I get the same message and have tried installing the xposed module
All other battery apps I've tried work.
I've got the exact same problem, can't get my head around why
Nexus 5 stock rom with xposed installed
Same here, I've been having this issue for a long time already. I've actually given up on WLD because no one seems to have an answer as to why it force closes :/
Long time has passed on this thread- got here googling for solution to the same problem.
Anyway, for me it was a conflict with another xposed module (force fast scroll) that caused some apps to close, including WD. Took me several iterations of enable/disable/reboot xposed modules

Music bug since the update of 5.1.1

Everytime when I turn off my screen while listening with headphones on or off, my music disrupts after a period of 6 seconds.
Now I have tried a various things to fix it, and strangely enough disabling the lock screen (any type of security ) fixes this issue)
Might any of you know a better alternative to make my life easier? I don't want to leave my phone insecured for the sake of listening to music.
Thank you.

Reflash with stock 5.1.1 ROM via odin.
Have you (TS) tried the solution provided above? I'm experiencing the bug as well. It's really irritating.
I managed to fix the problem by clearing the system cache. Just boot into odin, clear the cache and restart the phone.
(I didn't reflash the stock rom)

Thanks for the reply. When you mean boot into odin, did you mean recovery? I have done that as well, but it seems that it didn't fix the problem for me.
To add another solution to this bug, I downloaded and flashed the stock ROM for my phone. Apparently, it fixed the bug.
Yes that's what I meant, sorry for the confusion. I might as well do the same. Thanks for the heads up !

Heya, sorry to bring this topic back again to life. Apparently, the fix was only temporary. The bug reappeared after a few hours. I might try a clean install just to see if this gets fixed.
Edit: My device model number is SM-G920F

Do you have greenify installed and have the music app set to greenify? Also are you using the built in close app feature? The one found in battery stats. If so do you have the app set to auto kill? This feature kills all selected apps after a certain time of the screen being turned off.

I haven't installed Greenify yet on my S6. I had it on my S4, but it wasn't causing any problems at all. I checked the close app feature, and Music app wasn't placed there. The Music app crashes, it doesn't just close; without any warning message or whatever.
Update: I did a factory reset/data wipe via recovery mode, and used Odin to install a fresh 5.1.1. I tried the Music app, and it doesn't crash. I hope it wouldn't crash anymore.

Did the fresh install fixed the problem completely? I have it as well and it's super annoying, it will be super annoying to have to download my apps again but i will if it fixes the problem.

Unfortunately, it did not. To be exact, it fixed the problem for about a week, but the problem appeared again. Try using Power Amp music player, it's working well for me. I'm tempted to buy the full version after this trail version expires. Spending 1$ would be way better than getting annoyed all the time by the default music player.

App optimization keeps killing an app I asked not to!!!

Ever since the last OTA was installed which included the app optimization, I've noticed that LastPass keeps getting killed. I have to not only start it again and log-in again but I also have to go to Accessibility to turn LastPass off and then on again. I did turn the app optimization for this app off (switched it to Never or whatever it's called). But nothing changed. The only remedy is to turn off App Optimization altogether which totally sucks because it has been helping with my battery quite a bit... I've played a lot with the available options in the app itself, and nothing seems to make a difference because I don't think it's an app-related problem in the first place.
Anyone else has experienced similar problem and found a solution?

I'm having the exact same trouble. I don't think it's App Optimization since it was happening before that update for me. I've tried everything to keep it from being re-disabled. I saw other reviews on the Play Store with the same issue before App Optimization was added.
Yeah I'm having the same issue with lastpass and it was also before the update. I think it's something with 5.1.1.
