Battery widgets/monitoring not correct - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I've been a huge supporter of Circle Battery Widget since its inception...I think it's an easy-to-use widget that is customizable and looks great. That being said, 4.2.2 seems to have broken it.
Not only that, it seems to have broken every battery monitoring widget I have found on the Play Store. They can load the battery %, but it doesn't refresh. It's as if whatever protocol they all use has stopped working in 4.2.2.
Does anyone else use battery percentage widgets and having this same issue after updating to 4.2.2? It's super obnoxious because I've had a widget on my main screen since I got my first Android phone and this is the first time it's broken.

You'll probably need to install Xposed framework and the Enable Battery Stats module for battery apps to work correctly. Google changed the coding on apps ability to retrieve battery info. For example GSam wrote their own root tool to make their apps work on KitKat.

Ya that is bcoz after 4.4.2 update google has changed some code that makes impossible for a 3rd party app to read ur battery stats in deep!! U hav to root ur device inorder to gain access to the battery stats!!
Dont frget to press the THANK button!!!

[Q] icon changes after update

icon changes after update
hi,
i have some games in a home screen folder.
when that game updates, then the icon in the folder looks the default android icon and not the original game/app icon, as before the update.
to get the game icon back, i have to delete that icon and then make another shortcut for that game and put it into the folder.
any other war to do this ?
will having less services running, extend the battery life ?
google maps always seems to be on as a service, though i havent used it in a long time. if i stop the service, it starts again.
which android services can be safely stopped ?
HTC Desire S, Sense UI 2.1, Android 2.3.3
thanks
Anyone has the same experience ?
+ 1 mate
my solution is just move .apk to internal mem
after that is ok
I rebooted and it fixed the icons issue.
Yes, fewer active services will improve battery.
Google maps is used for location services like weather, world clock etc. other apps that use location services.... So it comes back on no matter how many times you kill it, unless you totally turn off all network connections, which is no fun.
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA Premium App
& also running less services does not improve your battery life as when a program is on RAM it doesn't use power
but if you kill services with task managers then they will start again which causes battery drain
I let the phone to update automatically, i dont move the apks myself.

For me, reboot does not refresh the icons, they still remain as the default android icon.
i can delete them and then make the app shortcut again, and then add to the folder, then the appropriate game icon is shown.

i do not kill processes myself. earlier i was using ATK, but then i removed it.
i just monitor the processes and services running in the background.
what u r saying about program being on RAM consuming no battery, is true. but what i was wondering was about services - which i believe dont just stay and idle in the RAM, but i think must be consuming some resources.
So i would like to know which android services can be safely shut down.

Greenify is highly recommended by the most users. i am using it too.
Remove Un Nesseccery Applications or Disable Them,
Remove all Bloatware The Pre Installed Metro apps wich comes With Stock... it will hlp u to save some juice and Greenify is Best, (Renew ur Battery)

Use DS battery saver module on xposed, it saved my battery more than other app do
Sent from my XT1032
delete the Facebook app, well if you use it, and also pretty much everyone's favorite seems to be greenify + xposed

Yes I do. I used greenify but my moto g still drain fast. From 100 % to 20 % just 10 hours.
I used Nova Launcher Prime, BBM, Line and WA.
Disable Location service / GPS , also when you had weak signal from your Provider, it will reduce the battrey alot., you might want to set to 2G only, or better yet, use Wifi instate
I must be the only one that gets no benefits from greenify.
I will recommend Apex launcher, it is ligh and memory+battery friendly.
Use Greenify (If possible donation version) it can hibernate system apps like hangouts, google+ etc when not in use.

You can also try the Hibernate app (not Greenify) you can find it in the Store.
For the others,
There are a lot of custom kernels that improve battery. Find one that suits you.

[Q] Lock Screen batter indicator [Lollipop]

Hi there can anyone help, I noticed Google has added an official battery percentage indicator into Lollipop. However it only shows up active when the phone is plugged into power charging and also only shows up on the lock screen (see screenshot from N5).
Is there a way to enable this permanently as none of the apps out there really cut it for this feature, is there a thread on this topic as I cannot seem to find one??
I guess on stock ROM you have to live with what you've got. There are a few apps out there which can show a notification on the left side of the statusbar. But that's not a good solution.
Nearly every custom ROM supports changing the battery symbol though (with percentage / without ...)

Much appreciated for the response experience7! sorry my bad, my poor explanation I'm happy to run a different ROM etc but was wondering if this modification can be done with say an adb cmd under root if it's just a flag within lollipop or is the only way with a ROM?? if so can you recommend one that's as close to stock as possible for Nexus 5 that allows this as there is so many?
You could try stock ROM with Xposed Framework.. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of customization module which lets you handle how battery icon / percentage should look like and when they should be visible. Not sure if GravityBox is compatible with Lollipop yet.
I read somewhere that Cataclysm ROM should be stock-based with lots of features! There's a thread here on xda-developers Maybe read OP / search / ask there if it has the option

Battery App

Can anyone recommend a good battery saver app for the Blu Pure XL? I checked Google Playstore - there are a LOT of battery apps. Hoping someone has some recommendations .. thanks!
Right now I'm using gionee system manager which can be found here on xda ( that's how I got I) just be sure your OK with the permissions also I use droid optimiser for auto clear of apps and background items I tried do battery but it just seemed like a waste also try 360 security as it has a decent cleaner as well as other functions to keep ur phone safe hope this helps. P. S. Take the time to understand these apps I use all of them and have them set in a way that helps me the most all have features that help while others are unnecessary my battery life definitely improved once I had them set the way I needed

Apps get killed/refreshed

guys, I have an issue here
mine is 6GB ram of 7 Pro
I open only two apps in background, when I switch to another app, the app just refreshed, meaning it was killed, why is that so?
Now I can't multitask because I can barely open few apps and keep it running in background
I'm on latest open beta 1 though
Even when I'm on stable OxygenOS I feel the same issue, anyone ?
Go to settings, developer option and running services
My system shows 3.6GB to around 4GB usage, so much ?

Set the apps you want running to don't optimize.
Are you on Android Q?
Because there you have to give it some time to adapt to your usage pattern, so that it will make sure your apps are loaded when you usually use them. Worked good for me after a few days.
If you still want to turn off battery optimization:
1. Disable advanced optimization under battery settings.
2. Set your apps to "Don't optimize" in the battery settings.
3. Lock them in the recents menu.

Hmmm that's weird, it does that Everytime? Maybe try a clean install and see if the issue persists if you have no other plans.

Tried a full factory reset, same issue though, the app won't just keep in background and will be refreshed when I go back to the app I opened, background only few apps like FB Whatsapp IG etc
But I'm sure this is software issue and I wonder if anyone facing such problem ?
I have the same issue with my 6GB Varient.

Seen some hinting that adaptive battery might kill off some apps. Try disabling that

Guys, I think I found the problem that causes this issue
I tried changing resolution from QHD to FHD and now my apps will stay in background. Tested few rounds and indeed QHD res will kill apps easily even few apps only but FHD can maintain many apps in background
But why though ?
