[Q] Different CROMI variants - Asus Transformer TF700

Where can i find information on all of the different CROMI variants? I just installed CROMi 3.x...and amm now wondering if this is the most evolved of the roks for my tf700. Can anyone advise on this??? Also...If I switch to another cromi rom...can i keep my apps/data without issue???

CROMi 3.x was based on the Asus JB 4.1 firmware and is really old, outdated and will not get developed anymore.
sbdags moved on to CROMi-X based on the Asus 4.2.1 firmware, the latest version - hot off the presses a few days ago - being 5.2.3.
Look for his thread in the Development section and prepare yourself: The thread is 331 pages long (3300 posts and counting) and growing by 2 or 3 every day!

Read the OP carefully and use the search tool for stuff you don't understand.
You can dirty flash (flashing without wiping anything but cache and Dalvic) to the latest CROMi-X version, but it is not recommended. You may run into a lot of legacy problems if you don't start with a clean slate. You should do a factory wipe in TWRP before you flash the new rom which will wipe your apps, but not your data. It is worth investing the time to clean install CROMi-X. You probably would spend way more time troubleshooting if you dirty flash.
Check out Titanium Backup, use the backup function of your custom launcher if you have one, and restoring your system is a matter of an hour of your time with a little planning and practice.
First thing you have to do though, is update your bootloader and probably your recovery. Check the OP for instructions.
sbdags not only created a wonderful rom for the TF700 but also a very fun community of people hanging out in his thread. Come and join us

Thanks a bunch! This is what I figured after poking around a bit more. The good news for me is, I'm not far into setting up this 3.x CROMi, so a full wipe doesn't hurt so much.

Will CROMIx support 4.3 which seems to be released in some countries over OTA?

CROMI-X is based on Asus stock. So if Asus releases 4.3 then: probably

[Q] what to choose? kitkat rom

Hi
I am new in this forum so bare with me I have had the Asua transtormer infinity tf700t since it came out in 2012. It ia 100% stock with the android 4.2.1 intalled. I dont think i runs as well as it had done running on the earlier android versions. I just got a hold on a Asus nexus 7, also 100% stock on android 4.4.2, whch runs much better. I know that the nexux diveces are running smooth, but i think that a transformer tf700t can run much better then it does now. I am thinking about trying a costum rom wich i think will run much better. But I am not sure if there is a very good rom out there yet. Is there a rom where everything is working fot the tf700t like bluetooth, wifi, sound, camera, mic and alle the other stuff??? It is also very importent for me that the dock is working like it should and the usr of a external sd card in both the tablet itselve and the dock!
The only reson that I consider using another rom is that I dont think it is running as it could. I have tried doing a factory reset mant times...
Is there a good rom outthere yet or should I wait???? Which one should I use if there are a good one?????
PS I am not an advanced user, but I doo know how to use a computer and follow a guide Apparently I am not that good at English eighter...

I'm pretty sure once you run a custom rom you are going to kick yourself you waited this long
A ROM for "everything works like stock including all dock functions only much, much better": CROMi-X 5.4
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2425383
A KitKat ROM: CM11
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957660
CyanogenMod ROMs are developed from the ground up and then forked for specific devices. Since they don't use Asus firmware they have to use generic drivers for keyboard etc. Expect some bugs but most things work. Check their thread for current issues
Another KitKat ROM: CROMBi-KK
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672751
Two weeks young, a hybrid of CROMi-X and CM11 on CM11 base. It's still in beta, so there are bugs
For your first custom rom I would recommend CROMi-X. Read the OP of it's thread very carefully and then browse through it. To read it all you need to take a few days off
And finally here are some instructions how to flash them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2688891

Cromi-X or Crombi-KK ?

Hello
Both my wife and I have tf300s and after reading some threads here, last night I unlocked the bootloader and installed TWRP on the both. Thanks to some great tutorials here, took me less then 10 minutes to do both.
From what I am reading, the Crom ROMs are consider the best. We like the ASUS experience, but just want the ROM that will give us the best performance. Should we go with the older Cromi-X or is the new Crombi-KK (KK) ready for prime time? I just don't want to install something on the wife's tab and have it still be buggy.
Thanks for all the help

Personally I love the new CROMBi-KK since it has the KitKat flavor and a CM base. It's not extremely buggy, but there is no doubt that the older one will be less buggy simply because it has been around for longer and has been fixed up more.

Any stable KitKat ROM's that use all the kit?

Hello
I have just flashed my ASUS TF300T for the first time, and more importantly successfully.
However the Flash is a Jelly Bean. Are there any KitKat ROM's available that use all the TF300T features like the top row of keys, cameras and Tigra 3 stuff?
Or is it best to stick with Jelly Bean ROM's for the foreseeable future?
Cm11 is 4.4.2 been running kit Kat for months no issues. Everything works.

Wrong section though
Newbee question
Now that I haverooted my TF300T and installed a working ROM, can I use any old ROM from any source for a TF300T?
Or do I have to be very specific about what I install?
And if I have to be specific, what questions must I ask myself before hunting down a particular ROM?
This is the tutorial that I used to replace my Stock ROM.

I repacked lastest nightly of VANIR ROM with the installer of ZOMBi-POP ROM.
VANIR is CM12 based ROM, I believe.
This ROM supports Data2SD and ROM2SD installation.
YOU MUST BE ON THE ASUS STOCK JB 4.2.1 BOOTLOADER VERSION 10.6.1.14.10 AND TWRP 2.7+ OR CWM 6.5.0.0+ BEFORE FLASHING THIS ROM.

You must do a full wipe in recovery if coming from another ROM. Do not do a full wipe from the bootloader. Don't forget to do a Nandroid Backup first and give the ROM 15 mins to stabilise! The first boot will take about 15 minutes!

Hi Mate,
follow the OP from the link. This is the best rom for our old tablet I tried. When you format your data partition to F2FS file system and install the rom you will feel like having a completely new tablet. It will be faster then it ever was! And it's the latest Android out there (7.1.2), thanks to @timduru
Yes, it will be a long way from stock Asus rom to the latest custom rom build. But trust me, it's worth it. And you have to do this only once. But you will have to forget the Asus interface from your current System. It's not a big deal in comparison to the huge performance improvement.

Thank you. I found the link, downloaded a couple of zips, reading up on things. I have *never* done anything like this before. Do you have any idea where I can find some really, really, REALLY BASIC step-by-step instructions for doing this? I mean this right here:
"Install a F2FS compatible TWRP Recovery (KANG TWRP recommended)
"Backup everything !
"Boot into the recovery"

That may as well be written in Russian or Klingon, for me.
Thank you!

There are install instruction in first post on Nougatella thread. Pretty simple. If it's all still Greek to you there are sticky posts that give step by step instructions.

Any high performing roms out there, or should I retire my TF300?

So my TF300 is running slower for each day. Is there any hope left?
Ive tried kat kiss and cyanogenmod different versions.
Most of the time I'm running twitch, or youtube.
I gave up browsing the web, everything is way too sluggish.
So what rom do you recommend for best performance?

I would go back to KatKiss (as it is the best ROM there is for the TF300T right now and possibly the last one of that quality as well) if I were you. You can try an app that let's you make additional Swap space whether it be a file or partition on your external SD card. I did this on my Amazon Fire 7 2015 KFFOWI, and it made a noticeable difference with a 2GB swap file. I will be trying it on the TF300T next.
Im in the same boat. I keep coming back to katkiss because it has the battery dock support. I hate not knowing how much I have left in there. Im itching to try something new and different with better speed, but so far... no luck

To my opinion the best CR is KatKiss - Nougatella by Timduru and I think I'm not alone. This rom will give your device a new life. There is a thread you may read carefully: https://forum.xda-developers.com/transformer-tf300t/development/rom-t3453702
Please note, your Tablet must be on the latest Asus stock rom Jelly Bean 4.2. with bootloader unlocked. Custom recovery must be Kang TWRP [email protected] If it is so, please follow the install instruction in post #1 of the mentioned thread carefully step by step.

Yea I second the notion for KatKiss, it is the best one for our device right now and has great support as well. I paired the ROM with some tweaks from L Speed and it is great and very fast compared to how it was previously. Also, @timduru is an awesome dude and really cares about the users and the community so you can't go wrong using a ROM he develops.
@rjmxtech
 @ebonit
Yeah actually I already have Kat kiss nougat by that dude. Version 7.1. I used TWRP 2.8 to install ROM.
I've used loads of different roms before this one. Does it matter what boot loader I am installing rom with?
How can I make sure install is as it should be? Should partitions etc be a specific size?
Just upgraded to TWRP 3.1. Should that be an issue? Should I install ROM one again?

No, TWRP 3.1 shouldn't be an issue!
If you did follow the install instruction in post #1 carefully and did format /Data and then changed file system for Data to F2FS through Kang TWRP, you don't need to run the install process once again.
I had never enabled F2FS before. Now my tablet is working better than ever before. Thanks man!
