How to create a "Go Home" shortcut on Carbon Rom!? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

As the title states. I am currently on Carbon Rom. 4.2.2.
I remember we used to be able to press and hold the home screen and an option for shortcuts used to come up. This came in handy for a few things. Has anyone figured out how to get shortcuts on your home screen with these ROMS? Same situation in CM. I would love to have the "Go Home" from Google Maps shortcut for an easy click.
Appreciate any input. Been fiddling around a lot and still no luck lol.

You can do shortcuts with 3rd party home apps like Nova. I use a 'reboot' shortcut with it all the time. The issue you'll come across is associating 'home' with Maps and then generating a shortcut.
FWIW, the new home app Aviate (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tul.aviate) allows you to navigate to 'home' through a shortcut that's built into the interface. It's beta and invite only, but it will do exactly what you want; I'm running it and it quickly pulls up Maps and gives you directions from where you are to home if you click the 'Home' shortcut.

[Q] what app can launch other apps by swipe patterns

hey guys i'm looking for an android app that will allow me to start apps or do some task by swiping a certain pattern when i'm on the desktop screen.
for example if i swipe upwards it will bring up the app drawer, if i swipe down it will open the notifications, if i 'Z' swipe some other app/task will launch etc etc
any suggestions much appreciated
LauncherPro has some of what you're talking about, but you can only have one swipe direction (up). But you can put pretty much anything there. For example, I have my swipe shortcuts related to the actual shortcut. Shortcut- camera. Swipe - gallery. Shortcut - phone. Swipe - contacts... you get the idea.
not exactly what you're looking for, but similar:
http://gesturesearch.googlelabs.com/
I find SwipePad incredibly useful. Not exactly gestures but one swipe can get you to 12 apps or shortcuts. It works with Anycut too so they can be anything.

Maybe this? Haven't tried it, but sounds like what you're describing: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.reeyees.gesturelauncher&feature=search_result

Just a warning about Swipepad, while it is a useful app, it will break any third party screen brightness apps/widgets, so you will only be able to control screen brightness via stock android controls.
I have tried to get the dev to address this, but he does not seem interested in doing so.

Home screen shortcut to widget?

Is there a way to create an icon on my home screen, that when tapped, would act as a shortcut and open up a widget, such as a calendar widget?

Like what widget? You can add a widget to your homescreen by long press on the home screen. The menu will pop up and you can select from the widgets you have... you can also create a shortcut to any app by the same long press and selecting shortcuts...

If you're opening up something its an activity/app not a widget. You don't open a widget a widget opens an app.
I think OP is talking about having a shortcut that applies a widget to the home screen. I find that this would be useful if you say had a backup of your homescreen. Whenever I load a backup of a homescreen configuration I had, the widgets would always say "problem loading widget." The backup only restores shortcuts and placements. So this would save you from having to delete and readd widgets.
I have 2 suggestions.
Power Strip
https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.intuitit.android.p.powerstrip&feature=search_result
or Quickdesk Beta/Pro
https://market.android.com/details?id=sg.ruqqq.quickdesk&feature=search_result
I use them both. here's a brief run down of how they each work
Power strip - it's a bar along the bottom of the screen with buttons for access to all your installed applications, shortcuts, widgets and whatever else you can figure out to put in it. i LOVE IT. It's 2 bux, but WELL worth the cost IMO. you can assign it to your home button or the hold search key (i use the home button for quick and easy access) but you can stuff as many widgets in there are you want and THEN SOME.. it's awesome! PLUS.. you can set it up to launch in ANY APP. say you're in maps.. but o snaps.. you forgot to turn on the wifi.. hold search and up comes powerstrip without even leaving maps.. you have your settings widget on the bar.. open it up.. tap the wifi button. slap the back key to exit powerstrip and voila.
Quickdesk - think if it as ONE of the panels from you homescreen. It's just one page that you can put widgets on.. on shortcoming... no scrolling widgets with this one. but likewise it can be accessed anywhere without leaving whatver app you're in.
These are both GREAT choices and i use them both... powerstrip is DEFINITELY the more flexible of the two though.

Ok just to confirm, a lot Widgets CANNOT be activated without being as widgets on the main screen. However, in launcher pro (not sure about other launchers), if you hard press and select "shortcuts">"application" then select the widgets (if u see any) that u like. It will also give u an option to customize the icon of your choice. This is one way to activate a widget by simply clicking the icon. Hope I helped.

Launcher Switcher

I was thinking of an app that could easily switch launchers. I've tried the apps on the play store, but it's not fast and easy to switch launchers. I thought of two ways to make this possible:
Option 1) *My personal favorite* Have a shortcut that takes you to another launcher. Add it to your home screen, and click it when you want to use it. I realize you can just add the icons for the launcher, but I'm talking about Touchwiz and Sense. It would be great for the shortcut to be themeable, because I have an all white/transparent thing going on in Launcher8.
Option 2) Click home button multiple times and go to a launcher. You could order it, like, 1 hit: Touchwiz, 2 hits: Nova, and so on. Just go in the app and drag to change order. Best suited for capacitive buttons.
Bonus, because it's not quick and easy) Add a Notification. Once it's hit, you can choose the launcher that the home button will take you to. Check the launcher you want, and hit home. Works best if you want to use a launcher for a certain amount of time.
What do you guys think? If any developer could attempt this, that would be awesome.
you can try "home manager" from the playstore. It helps to switch home from the notification bar.

[Resolved] [Q] Binding App Drawer to Home button (or Home2 Shortcut, or file)?

Hey
I just installed stable CM7.2 (android 2.3.7) on my Defy (jordan) and it looks great, but there's one thing I'm way to used too that's gone: pressing the home button when already on the middle desktop screen used to open the app drawer on the stock rom, which was great.
I couldn't find any way to add that back, but I found Home2 Shortcut, which allow to bind something to a double tap on home, which would be fine too. But I can only bind an application or a shortcut, and "Open App Drawer" is in neither of those (despite being in Add > Launcher Actions on the home screen). There's even stuff like "CyanogenMod Settings", but no "Launcher Actions".
Is there a way to add it to the Shortcuts list? Or any other way to do it?
Alternatively, I can also bind it to a file. Is there a file that launch the App Drawer when opened? Or a script file I can write to do that?
Thanks
Edit: I installed MIUI App Drawer and bound that to Home2 Shortcut.

Add a Bixby Floating Icon Button on your Home Screen - THE EASY WAY!

Here is a foolproof way to put a Bixby floating icon on your home screen.
No need for button remappers, no need to flash or install anything at all.
This method works on all versions of the S7 Flat G930 and S7 Edge G935 phones.
No root required, the only thing which is required is to have Bixby installed.
Here are the easy step by step instructions:
1: Go into settings>acessibility>dexterity and interaction>assistant menu
and enable it, there you will see another assistant menu so enable it again.
2: Then click on the assistant menu options and select the Bixby icon.
3: Click the back button and you will see the assistant menu again.
4: Now you can select how much transparency you want for the new
Bixby floating icon to have on your home screen.
Once you are done you will see a Bixby icon on your home screen
that you can move to any location on your home screen.
When you click this new Bixby icon it will open Bixby Home and if you
like, you can set the right swipe to google assisant instead of Bixby.
If you choose more than one floating icon then clicking on it will just
open the icon and display more icon buttons, so only select Bixby.
Good luck, have a great day

If you want to use the long "press back button" for Bixby in Nova launcher you need to go
to the playstore and download "Sesame", it's the best way to map any of the phone's keys
or gestures in Nova launcher's "Gestures and Input" options.
Using Sesame you can also use Nova launchers "double tap home screen" for Bixby too.
Sesame is a paid playstore app, it has a 14 day trial to make sure it works well for you.
It's not specifically designed only for Bixby, it can be used to launch almost any of the
phone's options or features that cannot be selected or accessed by simply clicking on
the apps in your app drawer creating shortcuts on your home screen.
Sesame integrates itself into Nova launcher. It's an add-on created for Nova launcher.
Good luck, have a great day!

Bixby does not need to be viewable in menus or the app drawer if you use Sesame.
In Sesame Bixby is a selectable "action" not a icon button in menus or app drawer.
Bixby is not in any of the widgets and has nothing to do with widgets or with any apps.
That's the beauty of Sesame, it creates shortcuts to ACTIONS and GESTURES that
do not have corresponding apps that you can associate them with.
Sesame is a add-on to Nova Launcher making it possible to create normal shortcuts
of actions and gestures which do not appear in the menus, app drawer or widgets.
Good luck, have a great day!

I was able to get Sesame & Nova Prime to give me Bixby on double tap!
install Nova (Prime), follow all prompts.
install Sesame, follow all set up directions.
then:
Nova settings, Gestures & inputs, click Double tap, "Activities" tab, click "Bixby Home", and fine and chose, ".main.MainActivity" Save.
I have bxactions for the Bixby button doing multiple things, and now can still open Bixby when I want to!
and, this doesn't even begin to touch all the awesome stuff i'm seeing from Sesame! <--I bought it!
thanks misterjunky!
