Home screen shortcut to widget? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Is there a way to create an icon on my home screen, that when tapped, would act as a shortcut and open up a widget, such as a calendar widget?

Like what widget? You can add a widget to your homescreen by long press on the home screen. The menu will pop up and you can select from the widgets you have... you can also create a shortcut to any app by the same long press and selecting shortcuts...

If you're opening up something its an activity/app not a widget. You don't open a widget a widget opens an app.

I think OP is talking about having a shortcut that applies a widget to the home screen. I find that this would be useful if you say had a backup of your homescreen. Whenever I load a backup of a homescreen configuration I had, the widgets would always say "problem loading widget." The backup only restores shortcuts and placements. So this would save you from having to delete and readd widgets.

I have 2 suggestions.
Power Strip

or Quickdesk Beta/Pro
https://market.android.com/details?id=sg.ruqqq.quickdesk&feature=search_result
I use them both. here's a brief run down of how they each work
Power strip - it's a bar along the bottom of the screen with buttons for access to all your installed applications, shortcuts, widgets and whatever else you can figure out to put in it. i LOVE IT. It's 2 bux, but WELL worth the cost IMO. you can assign it to your home button or the hold search key (i use the home button for quick and easy access) but you can stuff as many widgets in there are you want and THEN SOME.. it's awesome! PLUS.. you can set it up to launch in ANY APP. say you're in maps.. but o snaps.. you forgot to turn on the wifi.. hold search and up comes powerstrip without even leaving maps.. you have your settings widget on the bar.. open it up.. tap the wifi button. slap the back key to exit powerstrip and voila.
Quickdesk - think if it as ONE of the panels from you homescreen. It's just one page that you can put widgets on.. on shortcoming... no scrolling widgets with this one. but likewise it can be accessed anywhere without leaving whatver app you're in.
These are both GREAT choices and i use them both... powerstrip is DEFINITELY the more flexible of the two though.

Ok just to confirm, a lot Widgets CANNOT be activated without being as widgets on the main screen. However, in launcher pro (not sure about other launchers), if you hard press and select "shortcuts">"application" then select the widgets (if u see any) that u like. It will also give u an option to customize the icon of your choice. This is one way to activate a widget by simply clicking the icon. Hope I helped.

ADW Launcher Dockbar shortcut issue

I mistakenly replaced the "Dialer Storage" shortcut icon at the bottom that was once in the Dockbar. I search through the installed apps, but I only see "Dialer".
I could be wrong, but I believe this is the default Android dialer... Have you tried reinstalling ADW - this might bring it back...you would, of course have to uninstall ADW first.

Maybe it was jus a modified shortcut icon and it really led to the dialer app?

Try "Anycut" from the Market. It lets you create shortcuts for hidden apps.

I used Anycut and found the correct dialer icon. Thanks
Search on the market for "CreativeThemez" for awesome themes!

To get the call log shortcut
Go to home screen and long press and select custom shortcut/pick your activity/activities/dialer storage
If you dont have any sub activity as above in dialer storage do as below.
Go to home screen and long press and select custom shortcut/pick your activity/activities/phonebook/Call log
And select any icon you prefer and save it on home screen.
Then simply drag it to the bottom bar any location u prefer.

launch-x pro app

hello is anybody using this app? if so please can you tell me how to use it because i cant find it on youtube or anywhere and post picture of it on your homescreen. thanks
Press on the empty area, widgets - launch-x. once widgat is on screen press the little circle button bottom right of widget, which takes you to the settings. you canadd widgets and shortcut by pressing select widget items then press the menu key to add apps, contacts and short cuts. also on the main settings page for launch-x where it says widget preview you can drag and drop icons to put them in any order you want. hope this helps

Quick question

Really quickly could someone tell me what I would have to do to change the icons on the home screen not the dock. Thanks in advance.

What launcher are you using?
I'm using launcherpro, so I'd start with a clean home screen, then long press, select "shortcuts", select what you want to be on the home screen, then it will ask you if you want to rename it, when it asks that, click on the pic of the app you chose and it will ask you what icon you want to select.
Edit: ADW allows you to do this as well.

[Q] App for Launching App Drawer (w/o using rosie)

Does anyone know of an app that can launch your app drawer?
Ive tried Desktop Visualizer, but it doesnt give me the option to launch the app drawer. i can only do it using the rosie.
I wanted to know if i could basically create an icon on a home screen to launch the drawer so i could use a completely hidden rosie.

Yup! Just long press and add a "Launcher Action"... They will let you customise the icon as well
I prefer ADWLauncher EX the paid version

where do i long press? im using LPP and desktop visualizer but i still cant figure out how to use an icon to launch the app drawer
On an empty space on one of your home screens... as it you would add a widget or a shortcut.
Works fine on ADW Launcher Pro.
Greetz
still no luck. i dont see where LPP or DV gives me the option to add a 'launcher action'
when i long press the homescreen, i get the standard Shortcuts, Widgets, LPP Widgets, Folders, and Wallpapers
where do i go from here?

Launcher actions are shortcuts I think.

I assume you need the ADW launcher for the extra options.

In adw just press and hold the launcher icon on the bottom bar and drag it up to the screen

If you have LPP or ADW you don't need DV...
I think LauncherPro you would: long press home screen / add shortcut / actions / launcherPro / LauncherPro (app list in small type)
Hope that helps.
Though it is not really the "App drawer" its just a list... ADW actually gives you far more customisable options. Try the free one first if you like

In Launcher Pro, keep your finger down on one of the mi ddle buttons on each dock. It will say Edit dock shortcut.
goto change shortcut --> App Drawer.
Done

Sorry, ignore me, I see what you're trying to do. I'm not sure LP can do this. I can;t see an activity which replicates opening the app drawer. You might ask the developer. He's pretty good at responding.
I have your answer.
Adw.
Search settings for hide bottom dock.
Search settings. Use swipe up gesture for app drawer.
Done
I think I'm having the same problem here.
I was trying to launch the app drawer from the homescreen, not from the dock, but LPP doesn't have that option or perhaps I just don't know how to do it?
Using DV also doesn't help.
Any ideas?

[Q] Can I make a widget invisible?

Hi,
I'm running CM7 and I've got widgetlocker as my lockscreen, and I'd like to add the torch widget to the lockscreen. It doesn't really fit in though so I'd like to make it invisible; i.e you can't see the widget but if you press in the right place (where it is) it will still function as normal.
Can this be done?
Thanks

Invisible Widget

I recently discovered how to make an invisible widget that has been incredibly useful in customizing my screens. For instance, my weather app is Snowstorm because I like how the widget looks. But, I like Weatherbug for functionality, weather radar, etc. So, I've got the snowstorm widget on my screen with an invisible widget overlayed and set to front so when i click on it, it sends me to Weatherbug.
This is done my creating an icon using Simple Text. The text in the icon is just a couple of spacebar taps. It saves to your gallery. Then I used Desktop VisualizeR to create a widget that is assigned to the Weatherbug app. Assign the invisible icon you created to the widget and you are ready to go. Very useful to have a visual of one app and the functionality of another. You can even create it so you just tap on a blank portion of your screen to activate whatever app or function you want. It's fun!
Good luck. :good:
Maybe use gimp and just make it transparent
