You need a zip that you can flash in recovery. Superuser app is basically like a manager, you need to flash the files first so it has something to control.

Hi all.
I know now that it was a mistake to wait for 2.3.3 before i rooted but i did and now i don't know how.
All the methods i can find don't work with 2.3.3.
I'm still quite green with regards to android although i did root my old LG GT540 using Z4root which was really easy.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Really? So if you unlock the bootloader (guides should be available on the development forum) and you flash ClockworkMod recovery(CWM - again there are guides for this), then you can't flash the superuser.apk? I had some trouble, but it turns out that I had to mount /system in CWM for the .apk to flash properly.
It's ridiculously easy to root the Nexus S. Before 2.3.3 you could root it without even unlocking the bootloader, now you have to unlock it first. Which is also ridiculously easy.
The only problem is that the unlocking process completely wipes all user data and the SD card. So before you root, do a complete backup. Then follow the instructions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
Use the android 2.3.3 root backup that's around the forum. Easiest way to get root

if you have clockwork mod use this as a restore and you will have a rooted 2.3.3 its the easiest way to do it.
http://www.mediafire.com/?c1ww7zb837uycbk
just unzip and put the backup folder in your clockworkmod recovery folder boot into recovery and restore 2.3.3 takes 2 minutes and you will boot up with a rooted 2.3.3

I flashed the full 2.3.3 rom, im still unlocked and I flashed cmw via original root method and it completed but when I boot into stock recovery then choose recovery I get the triangle with ! inside it
You have to get root explorer and rename install recovery.sh in the etc folder so that clockwork recovery will stick. If you don't everytime you reboot it will go back to stock

Maybe I misunderstood what you were trying to do.....
I was under the impression that you expected your phone to reboot into CWM when you reboot your phone. Otherwise, what you need to do is open the Atrix 2 bootstrap app and click "boot recovery" and it'll reboot into recovery.
Yeah I want my phone to boot into CWM every time I reboot. I'm just not sure what you mean by flashing CWM on boot. Thanks for the quick replies.

Well i'm almost 100% sure that all roms now require an unlocked bootloader, so by unlocking it and flashing a custom recovery you should be able to flash roms and it'll make the custom icon go away as well.

Unlocking the boot loader should kill it.
Hey guy's
I tried to root my HTC one S but after I unlocked the bootloader (boot loader is now UnLocked) , I couldn't run the SuperSu zip file because When I
open the recovery it shows a red message saying:
"this build is for development purposes only do not distribute outside htc with out htc write permission failure to comply my lead to legal action ."
i cant do nothing else with the device,he's stuck on that massage ":this build...."
all i can do is go to recovery mod and that's about it,cant find nor open the supersu zip file
does any one know what to do to repair this?
It sounds like you didn't flash a custom recovery. If you can get back into the bootloader go to fastboot and do that.

dude,i dont understand why your'e saying "put it on sdcard" i dont have a slot for an sdcard it's the one s

Dude...where you drag and drop files from your computer is considered sd card as you can clearly read!!! Hasoon2000 is a person btw.
But seriously, If you're having these issues you don't need to root. Honestly after ics there really isn't any point . If you know what you are doing then maybe you are stuck in your ways, but if you don't there really isn't any point considering you are asking the same exact question that has been asked nearly every day....

To root can't you just unlock bootloader.
Download superSU to /storage
http://download.chainfire.eu/372/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86.zip
Then download CWM and boot recovery (don't even need to flash it) using the following (apologies if syntax not 100%, I'm not at my laptop to check)
fastboot boot recovery cwmrecovery.img
Then just flash superSU via CWM.
You don't really need any special rooting 'tool'. Its just basic stuff.
