I posted this same topic on the Nvidia GeForce forums but also wanted to see if anyone here has input. Any thoughts are welcome on the topic:
https://forums.geforce.com/default/...sion/wmc-compatibility-with-shield-streaming/
After doing some testing today I have narrowed down some problems I am having with Shield Streaming to using Windows Media Center with Xbox 360 extenders.
I have streaming setup and working just fine on my Windows 7 64 box with a GTX 760 - no issues. Once I connect an Xbox 360 as a WMC (Windows Media Center) extender everything still works fine. I can watch TV while streaming Bioshock Infinite - no issues at all.
The second I disconnect the Xbox 360 Extender (and the associated RDP session used by WMC is killed) something goes wrong. The streaming tab disappears from the GeForce Experience Preferences tab - my PC is now listed as offline from the Shield.
I have tried changing the language as well as restarting the streaming service from services.msc - nothing will get the Shield to connect once I have connected and disconnected a WMC Extender session from the PC. The only fix is rebooting - and things work fine again until I connect/disconnect with a WMC Extender.
Can anyone help with this? I am hoping there is some kind of work around or fix that can be made to resolve this issue. Since the PC for the Shield needs to be online all the time having it also act as a HTPC running WMC is a natural fit - so I really would like to avoid the expense of having to dedicate a separate PC to act as a HTPC and another for Shield streaming.
I see the exact same issue with Win 8.1 and MCE. SHIELD tab / GameStream only works when a 360 extender is connected, once no extender is connected the SHIELD tab is not present and GameStream fails.

Ok, I am trying to fully utilize my lovely Android technology, and I need some help... Let me explain what I am looking to do...
Devices:
-Android Tablet
-Several Android Phones
-Wireless Media Server - NOT hooked up to a TV
The hook up:
-Android devices will be hooked to each TV in my home, via HDMI. This will also essentially give the TV's WiFi access...Kinda...
-The Media Server is locked away. And is also Hard-wired to the internet, and is the main hub for WiFi access for the rest of the house.
-The tablet is stand-alone (Able to access WiFi when needed)
What I want to be able to do:
Here's the scenario... Sitting on the couch, and nothing is on TV. So I grab my tablet, and access my media via my network... I find a movie I want to watch... But I don't want to watch it on the Tablet... I want to watch it on the TV in the living room, where I am currently sitting. So, I touch the picture of the movie cover on the tablet, and tell it to then broadcast from the Media Server via WiFi to the phone hooked up to the TV I wish to watch it on.
Now, here's the kicker...
* I would prefer that this streaming media is NOT ported through the tablet... I prefer the tablet to simply be the remote, so to speak.
* I DO NOT want to hook the Server to any television at all.
* The Media server MUST be password protected
* If it's possible, I'd like the option of Ad-Hoc, no actual internet connectivity needed..
So the question is this... Is this possible, using only Android devices and a Media Center PC running Windows 7??
Thank you in advance to all who reply.
Does the Shield work as a PC gamepad via USB or Bluetooth connection? I am not talking about the Steam/streaming option. I know that basically does work, but only for PCs capable of streaming(unlike mine). I thought it would be cool if you could plug into usb and use the shields gamepad to control a pc game. The benefit of this vs. streaming would be that the shield's screen could be blank, conserving battery. And if it worked via bluetooth you would have a wireless controller.
If these are not possible as-is I am sure they could be made possible with an android app and PC service. Is anyone else interested in this? If so I may try to create something.
Edit:
I have made an app that works over wifi. Get it here - Shield2PCGamepad

It doesn't. And it probably won't directly via USB (dont think android will allow you to access USB in the correct way). Bluetooth + a PC service is probably doable though.
Is there been any more progress looking into this? I would love to be able to use it just as a controller on the pc. it's much more comfortable then an xbox controller.
I would never use this over an Xbox controller. There is a weird dead zone on this controller so you can't play games like black Ops 2 with it.

I just paired via BT to my Sony duo 11 however I do not have any app to allow gamepad to be used. Any ideas?

Where I'm staying right now, no Wifi or Wilan. My laptop doesn't support bluetooth. My Carrier gives me a service that allows me to watch live streming tv on phone, It doesn't allow me to connect it to TV or something. I have windows 7 on PC, and Android kit kat. Samsung galaxy s4.
I'm wondering if it's somehow possible to connect mobile to laptop using the normal USB cable. And stream the mobile app activity to laptop, so I could watch live streaming on my PC, then I'd use an HDMI cable to connect it to TV.
Hi guys,
I have a Now TV box, similar to Roku
I lost the remote when moving house so this device isn't connected to my wifi
I was hoping to use the Smart controller app to set this back up
However I can't find Roku on there and the Now TV doesn't work - i've tried going through quite a few
Any suggestions how I could resolve this please? (apart from getting a new remote)
Thanks.
I've been trying various ways to mirror the phone to the TV:
- project to Windows 10 (tried 3 devices) - phone reboots or does not connect at all
- mirror to FireTV (Miracast?) - phone reboots or does not connect at all
- EzCast dongle - didn't seem to work, now the dongle is fully broken so cannot test it anymore
- USB-C hub with HDMI output - apparently there's no support for USB DP
- scrcpy via wireless adb - works but the phone heats up a lot and is a "bit" inconvenient
I didn't try a Chromecast, I gave all of mine away years ago since they were mostly useless.
Are there any other ways? Or is it just an issue with my unit and I should try a factory reset or a magisk mod?
I Chromecast to a Sony TV. YMMV.
Thanks, good to know. I just cancelled today my Stadia preorder which would've included a Chromecast. I'll just wait until a cheap one appears.
Was anyone able to mirror without Chromecast?
I was able to get mirroring working on a FireTV 4K by installing AirScreen. Nothing else that I've tried worked.
I can stream to my tv through the wifes apple tv box using a paid app called Allcast. Not ideal but better than nothing
