I'm currently on AT&T my HTC one s is SIM unlocked, bootloader unlocked, and S-ON. When ever i start up the rom or stop and start the radio I'll have the 4G symbol(or H+ depending on the rom) and it'll stay there for a minute and then drop down to 2G(or if im on H+ it'll go H+, 3G, H, Edge). On my current rom(SourCE 2.1) If i have 4G it'll stay on 4G until i go to use internet then drop to 2G. Any Ideas on how to keep it 4G/H+?

Look at the file /system/build.prop (you need to have root and use a file explorer) these values should be present there.
Those aren't in there, also I'm on cyanogen mod 10.2

When I got the Inspire, they hadn't put in the IMEI and I got the "H+" with a check mark. They fixed that and the check was replaced by the up/down arrows. I noticed that the APN had virtually no settings:
APN - Phone
MMS Protocol - wap 2.0
MCC - 310
MNC - 410
everything else is "not set"
When I rooted and installed AFR001 and later AFR002, the APN was hard-coded to:
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: not set
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: 66.209.11.32
MMS Port: 8080
MCC:310
MNC:410
APN Type: *
I no longer get an "H+", but simply an "H". I have read conflicting reports that the "4G" connection won't work with the APN settings I have as they're 3G only. So the question is, how do we get the "4G" APN on the phone? If I make a new APN and set the settings manually to what appeared in the stock ROM, I get no data connection whatsoever.
Don't quote me here, but I'm pretty sure the afr001 and afr002 ROMs don't have an H+ icon since they are the European Desire HD ROMs. So you may be getting 4G HSPA+, but it doesn't have an icon for it.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I believe the best thing to do now is to just wait for the stock ROM to be rooted. It looks like the Desire HD ROMs are not 4G compatible.
Not compatible, really!? I have no other issues on AFR002 than that. I thought it would be simple

AFR002 is based on the Telus ROM, not the European ROM, however it may not have the H+ icon either, but I'm sure that it can support HDSPA/HUSPA just fine.
I was hoping to find out final clarification on the APN question as well. If I use the 3G APN, will I need a new APN to get 4G speeds. If so, what are the settings for the 4G APN?
Sent from my Inspire using XDA App
I get the same speed results with both of them, wap. cingular and phone settings. The only difference is when I switched to phone I got a message saying "conection failed" but I was able to use data. I'm using AFR001
Ok, thanks for the info. I'm guessing the APN issue is pure speculation @ this point anyway until AT&T's backhaul is complete.
Sent from my Inspire using XDA App
It's unclear. After my imei was updated, I checked the APNs and there are two with lock icons. Maybe if we could check with someone that has real H+ service who could check download speeds with and without the 3G APN.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
+1 I've been playing with APNs all day trying to figure it out. Network info shows HSDPA.
to clean up the APN issue: The APNs with the lock are from ATT with only one or two settings off to control tethering. When you use the custom APN settings you get tethering even on the stock ROM without a special tethering plan.
When I talked to AT&T they told me there is no special Sim card or APN setting for 4G. 4G is a hardware issue, but AT&T has only released 4G speeds in SOME areas, LA and Orange County do not have it yet. The whole network will be up and running by year end. The H+ is just an icon that AT&T put in the ROM, they don't even have the H icon, if you are on 3g or 4g it will still say H+ because this is there way of marking something they don't have yet. Mush like the EVO when it first was released Verizon didn't even have 4g running anywhere but they had commercials all over the place for a product they could not deliver.
I just got the phone 2 days ago and i love it but im on t-mobile so i unlocked it, and flashed illuminance2, i flashed the infusion kernel and i only get edge and it comes in and out. the edge is very slow cant download apps because it takes so long any help is appreciated.

Yeah they are not backwards compatible. So a AT&T phone will only get 2G on T-Mobile and vice versa. Except for that one T-Mobile phone. Admire or something like that actually gets AT&T 3G

You will never get HSPA on T-Mobile on AT&T phone. AT&T phones don't have the bands required for T-Mobile's 3G network. Same goes for T-Mobile phones. Except for the HTC Amaze.

You call at&t, say you got a new one x, and you give them imei and sim number. They add the appropriate plan to your account. Doesn't cost any more but they have to know to provision your sim for the PTA apn.

best to get your account setup properly and use the pta apn. Significantly better ping times, and in some instances, better speeds.
I have tried 12 different apns but the phone seems to be stuck on edge and wont go over 1.5mbps and my friend who gave me the phone always got 3g/4g in our area I think its on edge because all it has it the little H+ on notification bar

H+ is 4G HSPA+, shortened to H+

Edit: Just reread your post. If it's displaying the H symbol you're on "4G" if it displays an E then you are on edge

go to straighttalk website. You can buy the sim from them and sometimes carry over your #. You can buy any SIM card, but it depends on what network you want it work on and maybe what works in your area the best. such as ATT, Net10, Straighttalk, Tmobile.

You can get straighttalksim online and at some walmarts. I got mine online. when you order you select att t-mobile or unlocked depending on the network you plan to use and the phone. If it is an att phone att sim. if t-mobile phone t-mobile sim. Sim unlocked take your pick
OK it looks like straighttalk may be only selling t-mobile sim now. Yesterday at straightalksim.com att sim was not an option. they were still available at walmart online. Straightalksim.com says t-mobile or unlocked.but it says unlocked must work on t-mobile frequencies so it is t-mobile or t-mobile

Hi, my name is Andrew,
I just got my HTC Inspire 4g on Sunday. I already have it running aokp 4.2.1. I'm upgraded from an htc one V on Virgin Mobile. I activated my new phone a couple days ago.
I live in a place where I know for a fact that HSPA+ on AT&T works. My problem is that I cannot seem to get H+ data on my screen. All I can get is the H. I do a speed test and get between one and three Mb/second.
My Apn is this:

MNC: 410
Authentication type: not set
APN type: default,supl,mms,hipri
APN protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN roaming protocol: IPv4/IPv6

If someone could please provide me with an apn that they know of that provides H+, that'd be great. I've googled, and all I can seem to get is the little H symbol.
Thank you
I am using an app called tweakker from the play store. I am also using Straight Talk on AT&T. Just run the app and select Straight Talk ATT, and you are done. Much faster than typing it in yourself.
