The only gripe i have with the Galaxy Tab is the abominably slow Email app with Exchange integration. On any app start or when return from reading an Email it takes a full 30 or more seconds to load the Email list (i sync 1 week) and more often than not the screen / app becomes unresponsive and force closes.
I discovered that unlike Touchdown the in-built Email app simply downloads all Emails (1 week horizon) in all sub-folders (i have many, organization freak...). With Touchdown i can pre-select the folders i want on the Phone/Tab, which obviously makes the number of items much smaller.
By now i don't want to change from Email to Touchdown, because I like the integration of Emails & calendar entries, etc. native, but I have to work with the tab on work Email,... can't wait for every mail for 30 sec to load
Does anybody experience this too, and are there any remedies?
thanks
That isn't the case with me. I have 27 subfolders (really), not counting Inbox, Sent, Junk and Deleted folders. I need to manually refresh all but the main Inbox.
Response time moving from folder to folder is also a non-issue, and I sync back a full month (which is thousands and thousands of emails). I don't notice any extra delay when leaving Email and doing something else on the tab either.
I'm using Push, not timed polling, and no "peak schedule" so that may make a difference.
Sounds like you might have some database corruption going on. Try going into Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/All/Email and then "Clear data". This will nuke the mail on your device without changing your account settings. Sync up again and see if you still have the problem.
If you do, go into Accounts and Sync, click on your Exchange account, and click Remove Account, then reboot the Tab. Once you've done that, set your account back up, resync, and see what the situation is.

I will try clear data
I did see the issue reported (with no solution) on other forums though
Thanks
Edit: cleared data, same issue. I am hesitant to re-setup, because others have reported that that didn't help them either. I am on JM6, interesting that you don't hv the issue

Same here,
have 50 subfolders
use Countdown actually.

Same with me. Very slow!!
It was the same on the original firmware/rom, on JK5 and JM6. Also performed full factory reset but it makes no difference.
Using the eval of roadsync at the moment and it works pretty well but it does not integrate very well with the calendar and contacts apps. I will probably configure roadsync for email and the built in app for calendar and contacts to get a working solution. Annoying and very disappointing!!
Search for the port for Galaxy S of the email app from galaxy tab, it solved the slowdowns and it removed the security pass.

This worked for me no lag when opening up my corp inbox. Tab now 100% perfect.
Had to change the galaxy email app shortcut as it was set to open the previous account by default. Even though they were called the same it always opened a blank mail box . I then had to change to all accounts. Now resolved

Be careful, it's a very OLD email.apk, from a pre-release leak of the Tab ROM.
It's missing a few features, and it has a lot more connection issues. I tried it just to bypass needing a PIN, it was not reliable.

yeah, i can see that in the referred thread...
so is there a newer version that works AND is not taking 30-60 sec to load?

ok, this thread needs to be updated a bit, because just simply referring to the link is bad advise.
it broke my camera (driver crash), probably because the email.apk posted in the other thread linked does not have an *.odex file
i reverted back to the original email.apk and email.odex and my camera is working again.
scary
haha
now i am still stuck with a very slow email app

You have to use only the email.apk and keep the original Email.odex, then the camera works fine...
The only problem i found is that the version of the port is from an old version... anyone have a more recent version?

There seems to be a new firmware from samsung out... Wonder whether there is a new email client too...
Last time I tried to pull it from the fw, but didn't succeed.
Any solutions on this?
I think the problem is related with security from exchange. Because when I use the stock app I have to assign a pin to access the system, and the mail app works very slow, but when I use a modded version without the security it works normally...

Am also looking for solution still newer fw's like JME have not solved it yet
The implementation of Exchange on Android is screwed... I use an Exchange 2010 server and not all my folders show on my android device. And even the ones which show dont update ona regular basis (My Sent folder updates once in a while... Right now it hasn't updated for 2 weeks)
On top of it it doesn't update all the features/items. For instance impossible to have birthdays for contacts. Or impossible to modify an event from the exchange calendar (It's only possible to delete it)
Not much to say. It's disappointing on a phone. It's ridiculous on a tablet (you expect at ;east the email client and the calendar to be perfect on a tablet)
Same happens to me since the beginning, anyone has found a solution???
I think it's unacceptable
Thanks
For whatever reason, after flashing 3.1, Google Talk doesn't work for either of my Apps accounts. It shows me as signed in in the app, but doesn't pull down my contact list or actually send messages. My Gmail account is just fine, tried deleting the accounts in question and no dice.
I am having the same issue with the Motorola Xoom. I am also running 3.1 and have 3 accounts. Anyone else having the same problem?
I posted a bug report here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17252&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars
Mine shows my contact list but doesnt show any messages recently sent since I flashed to 3.1. Also the status shows everyone offline but on my phone it shows the correct availability,,,,mmmmmm weird

Just to be a bit more specific, one account is a regular GMAIL account, and the other 2 are Google Apps Accounts, on separate domains.

Switched syncing on?
Same problem, not on 3.1
I started experiencing this problem on Saturday.
I'm running Prime 1.3r2 with netformer 1.3 NOT 3.1
I have 3 google apps accounts and 2 traditional gmails. All working as intended until Saturday evening. Now only the first account I sign in to works until I do a reboot. The rest incorrectly show status and fail to send messages. During some testing last night my friends we're receiving test messages from a different account on my list regardless of it was signed in or not.
complete wipe and reload (not restore) did not fix the problem, leading me to believe it's on the google side maybe.
I noticed that I never get chat/messenger notifications on the Facebook app. All other notifications come on time. This has been happening all the time. If I use the Facebook Messenger app, then I get chat notifications instantly, all the time.
But I don't want to have two separate apps for it. I've done some searching and I've tried reinstalling the app, but no matter what, I never get chat notifications on the Facebook app.
There were some instances when I did get them though:
1. If I open the app, go to chat, and leave it running in the background (that doesn't even work anymore)
2. If I'm in the app, it simply vibrates twice per message, doesn't even play a notification ringtone that I set for it.
I've tried reinstalling.
I'm using the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S2. This problem has existed on every ROM I tried. Right now I'm on stock ROM and kernel, rooted with bloatware removed. But even a fresh stock with no changes has this issue.
Anyone else have this problem?
Everybody has the same problem so don't be surprised. That's the reason why the app sucks!!

Not working with Galaxy Note 4.. Gmail keeps crashing when i'm trying set up my company exhange and my private Outlook accounts...
Try to add a personal email or exchange account. Don't enter an email address and press either next or manual setup and it'll force close (ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException).
I'd guess that the ability to press either next or manual setup should be disabled until a valid email is entered, but with Android 4.1.x it'll allow you to press the buttons every single time.

Don't know if it'll help or not but you could clear data for Exchange and Gmail, or try using titaniumbackup to freeze any existing Exchange apks and freeze/uninstall the old version of Gmail. Surprised that there's problems as it's signed and official (you'd think that upgrades would work fine).

Anyone know why I get 'Unknown issue with Google Play services' error message? I have Google Play services version 6.1.83 (1522025-070) installed. Gmail 5.0 is the only app that gives me this message.
Help will be appreciated. :good:
Getting force close when trying to compose an email. Removed the old gmail and reinstalled but still force close. Anyone else? Reading and pulling emails perfect.
**Edit**
Its the theme engine. You have to use stock holo theme. Any themes will cause a force close on compose.

I just read a thread over at the Samsung forums concerning the missing and non functional FB contacts sync recently, and it appears that this is not a bug, but a FB person stated that this feature has been discontinued!
What in the world were they smoking??? Are they completely gone stupid?
This is a global thing and affects everyone on Android.
Worst thing is that nobody knew.
There is people that don't care, but there is also people that do, and this is certainly NOT a point that needed addressed in this app.
I can't believe all the gimmicks they add and then an essential like that is being removed! Unreal!!!

I'm here because I was looking around to solve this problem. It seems simply removed by Facebook devs. It's incredible and absurd.
I come from an hard reset and now I can't sync nothing even if under Settings --> Account --> Facebook there's the sync option. But (surprise) it doesn't sync nothing. It says sync complete, but there's not data transfer.

Fix :
1. uninstall current fb
2. install v27 via apkmiror
3. system settings > accounts > facebook > sync contacts
4. parameter app>sync contact
5. update facebook app

Tried. Facebook v27 crash immediately after I open it. I hope Facebook will reintroduce this function.
New Galaxy S6 phones are pre-installed with Facebook version of at least 40. So you cant uninstall it or go back far enough to get 27.. Disabling it also does not let you install FB version 27. Sucks. I was able to do this workaround using my S4. Upgraded to the S6 and now I can't.
Not really true - I just did that on my new S6. Disabled the FB, uninstalled the updates (down to stub version) and installed ver. 27 over it. It synced my contacts, and then I updated the app - worked like charm
However, I assume with the FB updated to newest version, the new contacts may not sync anymore... :/
PS. Should be under Btr1976's post - sorry...
I did this too and can confirm it works.
I can't imagine why in the world Facebook did this stupidity.
If you can't install v27, maybe you could use a third party app. I used HaxSync when I used AOSP ROMs on previous phones. Worked like a charm.
