is there a way to see what happend in backround during boot? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i like to see what happend in backround during boot instad of animation. is it possible?

You mean something similar to a PC bios screen, or a verbose mode? With logs of what's happening on screen, but during boot time?

Sorry can't figure how to edit a post from the mobile app, but here was a quick search found, but keep in mind I have no idea if it works for nexus 5:

Not tested dmesg or logcat apps from chainfire on n5 but they work well on other devices. Used them a lot. Its the closest you'll get

Just tested. Does work but causes issues with screen once booted. Whole screen is raised about 2 inches. Literally. The status bar is at the bottom of the screen below nav bar

I just tried it, I was having the same issue.
Click "Uninstall live dmesg lite" from the app, reboot activate it again and it should work correctly.

Okay Google is sporadic

Hey all,
When I try saying okay Google on the home screen it only seems to work sometimes. I know that it wouldn't work if I have media playing but even with my media paused it only works sometimes. I also know that the icon in the search bar when media is playing to inform you that it would work but I get that icon even when media is paused. Anyone know what could be causing this? If so, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think it may be timing related and app-specific. I've noticed that the Google Play application, for example, can sometimes take up to 10 seconds or so after pausing it before the little Google search microphone icon changes from hollow to filled, indicating it's ready to listen again (although I've seen it take even longer on occasion).
Other audio applications seem to give similar results, but sometimes with even longer delays than than Google Play.
I'm betting this is a KitKat glitch of some sort that will either need to be sorted by devs modifying their apps to play better with KitKat/Nexus 5 Launcher, or by Google further optimizing KitKat or the launcher (or some combination of all of these).

Ok, after some experimenting I've found a workaround to get the mic back in listening mode if it gets stuck after you pause the music.
With music paused, tap the Google logo (not the mic icon) to enter Google search. Then swipe right to back out of the search. The mic icon should be filled and in listen mode again.

Wifi
Hey everyone, First off i just want to say thank you to the developers that did this, its pretty awesome. Anyways I realize that it has some bugs, but I seem to be having one that other people don't. My WiFi doesn't work, I click on it and the "on/off" selector is kind of faded out compared to the working bluetooth selector and it is in the off position and won't move, when I click on the Wifi part it goes to a screen were I can't press anything accept the icon on the bottom right side with 3 little squares and that isn't any help, the screen just says "turning Wi-Fi on..." and it has been like that since i installed this last night. I have turned the phone off a couple of times and nothing. Other than that i really like this OS! I just am burning up my datat plan without having my wifi on. Thanks a lot!

Kitkat ROM for this phone is still in Alpha stage. I recommend that you try to use Jellybean ROM's for now. They are in the Development.

I rooted my phone, then I went onto the page that had the 4.4 ROM installation on it, I downloaded that Recovery onto the external SD card and the 4.4 ROM onto the card, i then cleared the files, cache partition, and the devik (sp?) cache. Then from the recovery/boot screen i "installed from zip" the ROM off of my external SD card, then i installed gapps and that was the end of it. Do i have to run recovery after i download the ROM, then reboot?

USB Audio Out & Charge
Hi All!
I was wondering if PA supports USB Audio out along with simultaneous charging?
I have a USB Y-cable so I can get music to my USB DAC, which works in stock, but the phone does not charge at the same time (even after using a charge-only USB cord). I've looked everywhere in the forums for this, but I can't find anything...
Anyone know?
PA - Battery drain beause of screen
Hello!
I installed PA 4.6 beta5 and I think I'm having a battery drain because of the screen...
the battery usage is showing +40% all the time and in less than 6h the battery went from 100% to less than 10.
I had normal usage of the phone.
Thanks

Is there a way to set "menu" button to clear recent viewed Apps? Right now long press menu button only shows recent Apps and short press does open/close menu.
Adding a double tap on menu kills all the recent apps would be Great, is it possible?
Or just like SlimKAT open recent apps and just pinch my fingers together from up and down to the middle of the app list to clear The Apps?
expanded volume panel
I searched but couldn't locate this anywhere in settings. Is there an option that allows for volume panel to always show up expanded?
For some reason, out of nowhere, chrome only opens in floating window. Both reg and beta versions. I checked other browsers and they open up in full window fine. I unsintalled, cleared data and cache and reinstalled and still the same issue. Help please.
Also I noticed when its in floating mode the window is dim as well as the background window. Only the background window Is supposed to get dim.
Edit*
So it seems when I used chrome in floating mode earlier in the day it just got stuck in floating mode no matter what I tried. I tried to even blacklist it from floating mode and still would pop up in floating mode. ? Now it just returned back to full mode when randomly switching from one app to chrome from the recents menu even though I tried that a few times prior and it didn't return it to full mode. I understand this feature may not be 100% stable but that was just weird. lol

I flashed PA last night, and within a few hours of getting to school today my phone is now currently at 19% (only because i've had it turned off most of the day) within two hours of unplugging from the charger it was less than 45% It has also been very hot while it has been on... A few minutes ago I reflashed the latest PA 4.6 ROM (from 11-3) to see if the issue was in the flashing process, but the overheating persists... I created a bug report before reflashing, so if any PA devs want to look at it I will gladly send it your way... Anyway, thanks in advance for any help provided

Ok, just figured out one thing. When using an app to screen off, it asks for the password, but if I use the lateral button, it uses the fingerprint. So, the problem is with the app to screen off...

I can confirm this. Just installed Samsung's latest update for S7 and after that, if an app is used to lock the screen (e.g. Screen Off and Lock) the phone always requires pattern (or PIN or password) to unlock. Fingerprint recognition can be used only if the phone was locked by power button or time out. This is not a one-time event. It happens every time and won't go away until you stop using a screen locking app.

Yes this also happens to me. I have installed lots of different lock screen apps, all same problem.
Yes, I finally found the culprit... Nova Launcher "double tap gesture" to lock the screen requires Device Administration permission. If you toggle it on then the fingerprint unlock becomes unavailable. Thanks for all feedback !!
Yepp, I just got the update a few mins ago and this was the first thing I noticed. I'm a bit annoyed and I've found no fix.
I use Nova Launcher gesture for screen lock.

Tried to uninstall and install in a desperate hope that would help and it does. Now I have an icon to lock the screen and fingerprints work. Only minor issue us that there is a 10 sec delay, but the screen turns off right away, so it doesn't seem like an issue.

Oreo broke a few things....ugggh

I'm noticing some little things that are different in Oreo that make a BIG difference. Here are a few things I've discovered already that I'm looking for solutions to...
1) The button on all wired headsets that WAS the mute button now hangs up the phone....what the hell?
2) Hitting the "do not disturb" button in the quick buttons area at the top just throws it into do-not-disturb. Prior to Oreo, it brought you to a screen asking how long you want it to stay that way (hours, or turn off with alarm, etc..). That screen is no longer available so you can't have the device come OUT of DND when your alarm goes off in the morning.
3) Hitting the battery button in the quick buttons area at the top now turns on battery saver.....it used to take you to the battery usage page. WTF?
2 is really a shame.
Solution to #1: Apparently if you LONG PRESS the button on your headphones it will mute and not hang up.

Solution to #2. If you swipe down on the notification shade again (to see the whole notification area) you can see a little down arrow under the DND icon. Select that after turning DND on and you can see the option for how long to leave it on again. Yes, too many button pushes but at least the functionality is still there.
