[Q] Please help... Bad flash - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I was using TWRP to flash a new rom... I wiped but it took ages and appeared to have hanged. I powered down, then back up.
It loaded to Android... then froze.
Now I cant even boot to TWRP.
I can use WUGS toolkit to boot to twrp but I cant mount anything as it asks for a password to decrypt! I didnt have encryption enabled on my phone.
How can I fix this... I cant boot to Android to change USB debugging, only fastboot commands,

I think the fix is to format data. But try formatting just the cache first if you don't want to lose data.

First try:
fastboot flash cache cache.img
Get the cache.img from the factory image

You sure you got the path to cache.img correct. Fastboot isn't finding it

My bad... I've only used Toolkits before (very lazy). I put the cache.img in the right folder... it now says its erasing cache. But its taking ages!

If it's still going, something is wrong. Your cache partition is probably borked

If you can get into fastboot there's recovery. The next step is to flash the factory image. You will lose all your data. In the factory image there is a flash-all batch file. Just plug your phone into the usb and run that. It should take about 5 Minutes to run it

Well bugger it! Thanks for the help guys. So, I'll try a relock and RMA. If the relock fails is it possible I can pay LG to fix it or is it just better to buy a new Nexus? Otherwise I imagine I'll be months without a phone.
Did I break the emmc or is it just a dodgy chip? Or maybe I didn't use the latest TWRP?

Can you go into Bootloader/Fastboot? (Volume Down + Power)
EDIT: Read your other thread. You need to flash a stock recovery. You can do that via fastboot. Flash a stock recovery, format SD card, then flash a custom recovery again and you should be good to go.
Process of flashing any recovery is easy. Refer to the method in my signature, you just need to follow the RECOVERY FLASHING PART ONLY.
Other necessary info is also available.

Great. Now you have a stock recovery. Just format the SD Card from recovery and the SD should be good.
Afterwards, you can flash any custom recovery and mess around with flashing ROMs etc.

Download This. Open the zip file with 7-Zip or WinRAR, go to firmware.zip, extract recovery.img.
Then flash the recovery in the same way. This is the stock recovery and not TWRP.
I am assuming your phone to be S3 and updated to Jellybean already.

[Q] [HELP] Nexus 5 Failed To Boot After Unpurposeful Flashing Wrong Kernel

Allriiiggghhhtt, so I managed myself to root and install custom recovery (TWRP) in my Nexus 5. Shortly I unpurposely flashed the wrong kernel that I downloaded for swipe2wake ability, when I wanted to flash the Faux kernel into my device. And after flashed the wrong kernel my device won't boot, but still can get into the recovery and also tried to re-flash the kernel, fix permissions, restore my back up, wipe the Dalvik and cache and still won't boot up.
Any solution?
Actually, I managed myself to see another solution to re-flash the stock rom which means full factory reset, but at least I want to troubleshoot this thing first before I flash it with stock rom.
Depends on what kernel you flashed. You might be hosed or it might be recoverable.

Nope, I'm not using that app, I had it before in trial but uninstall it and flash to stock kernel. But I had download its custom kernel that I get from the link that the developer provided in Google Play Store description and stored in my storage, and never flash it from TWRP. But now I unpurposely flashed that custom kernel when I tried to flash Franco Kernel.

TWRP: which version?

Hi all.
I am going to root and reinstall a brand new bacon phone.
I'd need to know which version of TWRP has working backup/restore features and can work on CM12.1/CM13 encrypted data.
I've read different posts about this but am a little bit confused.
TIA for any help/hint.

Did you tried it yourself (or maybe you have confirmation by other users) or are you asking me to give it try?
Thanks anyway.

It's official. I don't know the meaning of what you said.
I mean, I never flashed a cache. I backet it up a few times but usually either I clear it(s content) or I format it(s partition).
Please help me to understand: I really don't understand.

Since the recovery (3.0.0) got stuck formatting the cache like it was corrupted, I restored it by flashing it as you do with a broken recovery.

My advise: You should read and inform yourself before flashing some kernels or anything. Seems like you haven't a clue about what you are doing.
Please do not get this wrong.
To answer your question, what rom did you have before? Is TWRP available?
OTA.zips can be downloaded here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7/how-to/oneplus-7-repo-oxygen-os-builds-t3937152
You need to flash them in TWRP. That's the easiest way if you run into issues with kernel.

MSMTool is the last solution for OnePlus devices. I always prefer to fix it without that. And yes it will format the whole phone. There is no chance to recover your data.

Now you learned a valuable lesson about backing up everything all the time. For videos and photos Google Photos is a good option, for data in general i use Syncthing.
