Bbm for Android on Nexus 5 - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My messages don't send and I can't receive messages. My bbm persistent icon is on with data and wifi at home and it hasn't been working for me all day today. Yesterday it was working fine. Is kitkat 4.4.2 compatible with the bbm app?

running 4.4.2 and with the latest version of bbm, it is just fine. I think something wrong with your connection/account.

Try reinstalling the app. Has been working fine from 4.4 to 4.4.2 for me.

it works for a while then cuts out
if you check settings/apps/running, when bbm goes into the 0B state you no longer receive messages until you manually open bbm... this has happened since 4.4.1
the latest bbm is better at not going into that 0B state but will eventually.. this also brings quite horrible battery drain while it resists that state
this is Google's response to message apps not running through their servers.. holding an icon in the notification bar will not be enough anymore.. your app well be killed... they want all your info

same problem
I have the same problem ,,,
in my nexus 5
bbm work for a few time, then it wont send any messages, it's just receive,
i tried to re-install and i format the device, but the same problem still the same. :crying:

Handy call and text notification app for note n5100

After swapping from my note 2 to the note 8 i do miss the blinking led to let me know if i have missed a call or text as far as i know the note 8 doesnt have an led and i have the samsung flip cover so the screen is covered anyway.
I have found a simple useful notification app that will bleep at set intervals to notify you of missed calls or texts, i find it really useful as i often leave my note 8 on the side while im out of the room often miss calls and texts and it can be an hour or so until i check my screen, with this simple app i have set to bleep every 1 min indefinately until i see the missed call or text so as soon as im back in the room you hear the beep so none go unoticed.
http://market.android.com/search?q=pname:com.notification_pack
Thats the one i use there are others on the market that do emails and other notifications too, but for me emails arent very urgent.

I use dynamic notifications and it works pretty well.. One catch is that it will disable smart stay. Other than that it is pretty customizable and provides more information on the lock screen.

AT&T Messages App
I have a Galaxy Note 8.0 and a Note 10.1. I am able to install the AT&T Messages app on the 10.1 so that I can text directly from my tablet, but it doesn't seem compatible on the 8.0. I've tried to directly download the APK, but that didn't work either. It would just freeze up. The only requirement I see to the app is that the OS needs to be version 3.0 or higher, and since the Note 8.0 was released with version 4.1 it should work. Anyone have a solution so I can use this app on my tablet?
I dont know how to resolve your at&t messenger app, but there is an app on themarketplace called tablet talk which allows you to send and recieve texts via your cell carrier on any tablet, this might help.
Check it out

I installed the APK no problem. Make sure you have unknown sources checked. Not supported on the Note 8.0 but works fine. Make sure you install the tablet version.

Edit: one more point. The tablet version works over data and not SMS. So you can use it even when you're phone is off. I use it to text when I'm on a plane all the time.
Thank you

Nexus 5 + Ford Sync

Has anyone tested out their Nexus 5 with Ford sync? I'll post up when I test it on Thursday, hopefully we get all the features like reading texts and meta info.
Edit 11/8/2013: SMS through Ford Sync works! It can ready them out loud, or display them on screen. Here is a one minute video demo:

I can't comment on Ford, but on Honda. When I connected my n5 to the Bluetooth it had new permissions such as reading text, which never was shown with the n4. So maybe something new in kitkat made it work?

The Nexus 4 was horrible with Sync, for some reason GPS wouldn't work unless you rebooted the phone.

Bluetooth is jittery on my side but the receiving party on the other side can hear me clearly. I have a Ford Sync. This is very disappointing.
I setup my phone with ford sync this morning. So far no issues. I did not make or receive any phone calls or texts however.
I'm testing mine today more thoroughly. It did say that "this phone does not support the MMS feature" so FORD better hook us up with an update or they might as well call it iFord Sync.
No problem in 2012 edge

Can someone confirm it reads and will send SMS messages? Or does everything through Sync send as an MMS?
Sounds like it receives and dials calls fine, but if texting also works, I may upgrade. The Nexus 4 currently does not support any texting features.

I have a 2011 Fiesta and I can confirm that the GPS works with the N5. Also I now get SMS notification on the display, but can't figure out if I can do anything else with it (read or send).

What do you mean by the GPS works?

When I requested directions, I couldn't get a lock on my location, so directions could never commence. (I think the Fiesta has a different Sync system where you have to call Sync and it sends via your phone the directions.)
2013 F150 Contact Pictures?
Has anyone figured out how to get your contact pictures to show up in your address book?
I don't have my nexus 5 any more (moto x) but I don't think it's possible for contact photos to show up. I can't get music covers to show either. I think the pictures we use for both those things are too large and Sync doesn't know what to do with them?
A good test would be to make some testing contacts with different size contact phones and see if one works. I'll give that a shot tomorrow.

Is there any possible way you could help me out? I have a nexus 5 running the newest version of KitKat, and I just updated my ford sync this morning to the newest version. I have the ford sync my touch whatever, the top of the line sync system and my phone is T-Mobile. When I connect through BT, I can play music fine but it will not do texts, it just says it's incompatible. What carrier are you with? Is your n5 rooted? If so what ROM and kernel version? Also are you using hangouts or did you add on the aosp SMS app? Please help I'm so bummed right now
I have Ford touch sync on 2013 cmax enerji and n5. I am rooted (stock/franco), but MAP was restored with kitkat. The ability is software dependent not carrier. I'm on gophone. You may have to delete phone and re-pair; possibly even reset sync. I use hangouts. Mine seemed to lose text ability a few weeks back. For me, just deleting phone worked.

Do you happen to be using two factor account authentication?
Tried clearing the app, reloading it, deactivating and re activating the phone\account via google voices web settings.
I am using two factor authentication as per a month ago. but if i recall correctly my google voice was still working with that enabled on my moto x before i got the nexus 5. I could be mistaken though. Anyone?
Mine originally was acting kind of funny upon first install - I uninstalled and re-installed it was fine.

If you're using a prepaid plan, I wonder if this is what you're running into:
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/voice/bPJ0u3fJiFo
Look about half-way down the page, it seems that some have needed to have T-Mobile disable their own voicemail in order to get GVoice to work. Maybe this is the answer, maybe not, but I saw it and thought it might help. If you got your Nexus through T-Mobile/postpaid, may not be the answer.
I seem to of found the problem. I was testing calls from my work phone, and they were all getting directed into the Spam folder. You cannot view the spam folder on the android app, however once i moved the calls\voicemails from the spam folder via the web interface, they all came flooding into my phone.

Actually yes, you can view the spam folder on the android app.
Gvoice>Click "Inbox" drop down on top of screen>Click 'Show all label'>Click "Spam"
I was noticed odd issues with Google Voice also. When I make a test call to my phone from my wife's phone and it actually calls me twice. Maybe someone else can help me confirm.. Call your phone from another phone and just let it keep ringing. See if it calls twice. Almost seems like its calling both primary and Google Voice #'s

On my moto G the problem is that it won't receive all the notifications trough Wi-fi. As soon as I enable mobile data everything comes at the same time, but wi-fi takes ages...
Actually my Nexus 4 running 4.4.2 is exactly the same, even if I manually refresh inbox in Gmail app it takes sometimes up to a minute to see new mail.
Same problem. Gonna try disabling Wi-Fi Optimization
I noticed that too. And same goes for BBM. Sometimes I have to open up BBM again until I get my messages. I tried disabling Wi-fi optimization and seeing how that goes. It's under advanced settings when setting up your wifi connection. Hopefully this is the issue, since wi-fi optimization is intended to save battery life.
Update:
So turning off wifi optimization worked out for me and now my emails come promptly. The BBM issue was BBM itself. You might wanna do a reset afterwards.

Hi, I was having issues sending and receiving messages with Hangouts too.
Hopefully, today Google released an update that corrected my issue. (2.0.3)
I recommend you to first, uninstall Hangouts, go to Play Store and download and install the new version. It worked well for me.
See the attachment.
Hey guys,
I'm having this issue too. I had it like 2 weeks ago, cleared data for the Hangouts app and, at the same time, I installed Push Notification Fixer from the Play Store. The issue got fixed and I thought it was because of the app but, now it is happening again, still with the app installed and the service running so I guess what fixed it was clearing Hangouts data.
How many of you had/are having the same problem? Any way to fix this? Really really annoying.. :/

When that started happening to me I was abroad so I didn't use mobile data to avoid costs. That happened on Wifi always so the issue is not with LTE.
Also, I changed to Slim since but I did not experience the issue again. And I have been using Push Notification Fixer just to make sure that things work properly.
Hope I didn't just jinx myself
Interesting, I now you need data on for long SMS or MMS.
But the IM should work without fault..

This has happened to me. The phone is in deep sleep and ignores Hangouts text messages. I turn the screen on and then it reacts but the message has its proper time stamp from much earlier.
