Hi all! I am currently still locked into Verizon's Unlimited Data plan, and I can stay that way aslong as I buy the phone.
So I was looking into buying a Droid RAZR MAXX HD used probably, but I want to make sure one thing works.
Tethering. I took a screenshot from my current phone, a Droid Bionic running LiquidSmooth Version: Liquid-JB-v2.4-OFFICIAL

I want to make sure I can still use tethering (without a 3rd party app) on the RAZR MAXX HD.
Also, If it's not possible on stock-- can anyone confirm If it works on a particular ROM? I would be okay with that.
Remember, I'm locked into Verizon Unlimited and I don't want to lose the ability to USB tether.
Thanks a lot to all who reads this and helps!
Bump :crying:
@insane21m. If you have a rooted device you could use SQL Elite to change entitlement to achieve mobile tethering on unlimited plans. So if you decide to change phones you will need to make sure you can root the device. Currently there is no root exploit for 9.18.94 / 9.30 sys versions on HD. So sys very needs to be lower. Hope that helps.

Okay, so If I say buy a used RAZR MAXX HD that doesn't have the newest JB OTA-- then I can root it and use the unlimited tethering function with my Data Package?
Correct.

just buy one with an unlocked bootloader, then it doesnt matter what version its on. may cost a couple dollars more, but well worth it to never loose root to where you cant get it back.

I always paid for the hot spot so I'm not a good judge of how the hack works. As far as not loosing root, unlocked bootloader is the only way to fly.

You could either buy a "DEV" phone... An unlocked phone...Or buy one that has a system ver. Lower than 9.18.79/9.20 then u can unlock boot loader yourself. If u have unlimited data.... U would have to pay for tethering (unless u rooted and use SQL hack) ...if you are on a pay-per-gig plan (or set amount of data) then I believe you can tether without additional charges.

Just curious, why are you opposed to using a third party app?

I'm probably going to buy a unlocked + rooted RAZR MAXX HD, and you said that I need to do a SQL hack? Do you have any info on that? Or could I just put a custom ROM on and that would do it?

If you buy an unlocked phone you can do anything with it. Simplest option is to flash CM (or similar) which doesn't care about your data plan and just lets you tether. The stock ROM performs an eligibility check before allowing the tethering to be turned on. If you root the stock ROM, you can use a SQL edit to set a flag in the database so that it won't do the check. Search this forum (or possibly the RAZR M forum [same hack]) for the hack. Basically you change some DB table field "eligibility_check" to 0.

POST 1- This gets it running on ALMOST any ROM on the Infuse 4G. It walks you step by step in setting up your build.prop to acknowledge the libs and flashing it. I recommend doing post 2 if your ROM already has a pre made fix.
POST 2- These are pre made to the ROM which is then just flash and go. None of that editing, required, but also have tweaks and fixes I put in myself to give you the best satisfaction.
Examples of the changes made are battery saving tweaks, forced hardware accelerated graphics if not already enabled, phone model spoofed to the T-Mo Galaxy S II in the market so you can download T-Mo apps like "My Account", carrier ID changed to T-Mobile so you get to see T-Mobile apps in market, a higher events per second value giving you ultra smooth scrolling, and 100% best quality JPEGs. It'd still work, its just it won't register on the wifi calling. The app reads the sim as security. So all you essentially did was add an app. T-Mobile users get unlimited minutes over wifi.

You are invincible this is great. I have horrible signal at home and this has just made life easier for me. I almost regretted getting the infuse. Just tested and works like a charm I am using this right now. I am super excited.
I bought one of those wireless hubs you carry around with you from clearwireless for $35 a month with unlimited internet so now I can use wifi calling all day long. This has been my workaround since 3G is non existent on unlocked Tmobile Infuse editions.
if you can get 3G working on this with some type of edit that would be amazing lol I'd donate 100 on completion of that project. The stars under my name show I am an honest guy when it comes to donating to the cause. I know that the infuse hardware cant do Tmobile 3G but if there is a workaround that would be awesome.

Not invincinble- just persistent.
Also, don't forget to call T-Mobile ans tell them you have Wi-Fi calling (..somehow) and that you want the wifi unlimited minutes feature added on.
Also, I want everybody to post their ROM names so I can gather a list of confirmed and which way you did it, whether you followed post 1 or you just flashed the darky fix meant only for darky._.
As for 3G - the Galaxy S 4G can get AT&T's 3G bands but for some reason the Infuse doesn't. The radios just don't receive the one missing frequency that T-Mobile airs. No modem update can change that.
It automatically restarts when wifi picks it up. I leave it on all day whether i have wifi or not and it just kicks in when wifi is strong enough.
Currently using ZEUS v5.

Unfortunately Wallet isn't included with it and it's "not compatible" according to the Play Store. It Is, though, Isis Ready, not that I would use the carrier product over Google's.

I tried to edit the build.prop for the RAZR HD to look like a Gsm gnex, but it didn't work. I'm not sure if I did it right though, but I probably did it wrong, so that would explain why. What would I have to do to change it to look like a gnex?
Nothing has worked so far, so I can't help lol, was just inputting my trials as to what I did to try to get it to work...only other idea I can think of off the top of my head is to install a modified apk file of Google wallet but can't even guarantee that will work because someone already said they tried and it didn't work for them

I DL and installed Google wallet apk 1.1 r57v5
Side loaded it and the install went thru
I have and NFC sim and Isis installed on my RAZR HD w/o root
It will install with this apk version, but it won't work. At app launch I get an error about it not being approved for my country or device / carrier. This is very similar to the error I got when try to open Isis before getting the NFC sim.
I'm very new to this but I'm hoping I've stumbled on something someone who has a more technical understanding of this issue can build on.
Google Wallet want the secure element in the phone not on the SIM. VZW won't give anybody access to the secure element in the phone.
So unless Motorola writes software that talks to a secure element that is on a SIM, forget it.
I am stock ics unrooted on razr maxx hd. Foxfi used to work but now my laptop restarts every time i try to connect to foxfi. I tried to connect to foxfi bluetooth but i couldn't get to the page in which bluetooth connects to internet on my laptop.
Is there a free wifi tether app for unrooted razr maxx hd that still works? I don't mind paying for an app but i don't want to pay only to find it doesn't work when we get the jb update.

I tried the apk from play store (Muller, Lemons, ...) but it didn't work on my rooted OTA JB VZW DROID RAZR HD. I saw on the google code page that there is a newer experimental apk (v3.3). Is that what you are using? There were a bunch of fixes in this issue that worked - was that what you did?
Go to the Google Website: code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Download: wifi_tether_v3_2-beta2.apk
In Change Device-Profile select "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)"
PS - This is the only version of WiFi Tether for Root that currently works for the Droid RAZR HD XT926_verizon.
Since the other thread has several posts making it clear it is to talk about Modem only....
I decided to unroot and bravely take the new update all in the name of science and discovery as well as I like to do stupid things. And well selfishly I was intrigued by the possibility of improved wifi as my device continuously connected to my work WiFi then disconnected and connected again to drain my battery or until I remembered to turn it off.
We all know about the smearing fix and apps to SD. Here is a list of their changes I have noticed. Feel free to use this as a general discussion of the update.
-The haptic feedback is softer now.
-Camera firmware has updated and so far seems to have improved image quality.
-If you had WIFI problems, mine are resolved to I am 95% positive yours will be too. <-- WiFi then proved just as troublesome.
-Smoother transition effects (the effect itself seems new to me)
- on the about device page in settings there is a secure boot status now.(there has been talk about this for this update, I didn't remember anything there before.) Screenshot included.

Thanks for the info. Have you tried phone signal strength in an area where before the modem update your service was weak? If so any improvement?
Thanks

Can you please try to flash a Loki ROM? This is the question that still needs to be answered >.<

To late for me to flash any roms until a root patch comes to this firmware. When the patched firmware with the root access is posted later by scrosler then hopefully someone can answer that question assuming the only change in it is the addition of superuser.
I am 99% certain that if it can't be rooted then it can't be lokied until Loki is updated.

- Icon for Battery in App Drawer
- Icon for Data in App Drawer

Someone just pointed out in the update thread that the S4 Active update ends in MF3 and was rooted with THIS HERE
Willing to try it?
Written for active change build.prop and see what happens.

I see people complain about WiFi all the time, and 99% of the time it's the router and not the phone.
Your work router sucks, that is why your phone is having issues. No firmware update is gunna fix that.

I would normally want to agree but I've used a number a phones and devices Samsung and other manufacturers on the router with no problems. This phone has trouble staying connected. I understand it has to do with a certain chip set. This to me says no reason the router manufacturer and users need to make changes for 1 device. Samsung needs to investigate and make the fix. Hopefully it can be a software fix.
If you bought a new lawnmower that didn't cut your grass, would you blame the grass or lawnmower? Considering the grass hasn't changed and the old mower cut it just fine until it broke, I would assume you would diagnose the new mower.

It will not run on it.. You will either have to change your build.prop or edit the apk. I tried running in on my dads s4 and it just says it is for the S4 active only. It wont even run on the i9295 version of the active just i537

Forgot about the build.prop.
I don't know how to specifically change that, but I'm guessing you would just need to break down the APK, modify, and repackage it?
I'm hoping to look into the APK when I can.

I guess... it would be best to have either Geohot to do it or just another dev that can just rewrite a script using the exploit he had.
Good luck finding Geohot, he made the Apk and we haven't heard from him since.

Only because other devs started attacking him claiming he was stealing other peoples work...
I just tried running it. I ran with no errors and no root. I will still look into it when I get home. Geohot did seem different when I read through the thread. I will carefully proceed so to try not to offend any other developers.

So i recently bought a HTC One X from ebay, everything runs fine minus one huge issue, I have no data, there is no display icon of any form of mobile network, no 1x 2g 3g or 4g, not really sure what to about this so any help would be awesome, I just paid for a month of unlimited straight talk service but there really isnt any point if my phone doesnt work. thanks for the help in advanced everyone.
Is the phone stock or has it a custom rom ? Do a manual search on networks and check the one you need. You have normal signal for making calls ?
And check the APN settings and configure them with the info you can get from your carrier to use data connectivity

As far as i can tell it is 100% stock, no roms because it isn't rooted, I can configure the APN but there is no data at all, not even an indicator sign next to my signal strength. I have tried everything and feel like it may just be a faulty phone

Open setting and enable data.
Then tell us what it says - Connected, Disconnected or Connection failed due to incorrect APN.

under mobile data it is saying "disconnected because service is unavailable" I know it isn't my APN because i have used 4 different ones all given to me straight from straight talk, just for some reason i have no access to my data

For me, this happens when I'm in an area with very low coverage. Does this happen in every area?
Try switching network modes - WCDMA Only or GSM only

Are you still on Sense 4+ and Android 4.1.1? Maybe try going into the 'more' in settings. Try updating to sense 5.
