I am stock ics unrooted on razr maxx hd. Foxfi used to work but now my laptop restarts every time i try to connect to foxfi. I tried to connect to foxfi bluetooth but i couldn't get to the page in which bluetooth connects to internet on my laptop.
Is there a free wifi tether app for unrooted razr maxx hd that still works? I don't mind paying for an app but i don't want to pay only to find it doesn't work when we get the jb update.
I am on verizon wireless and do not pay for their wifi tether and i am on a granfathered unlimited data plan. I read one guy got in trouble for using pdanet on an ATT phone. Obviously I don't want that either.
Thanks! Foxfi was great while it lasted. :'
I've been using WiFi Tether for Root Users. Free in the Play Store. It works in advance hoc and infrastructure modes (I'm rooted on the VZW JB leak)

I am using SVTP Hotspot on my Razor Max. It is a purchase item but they trial version to use before you purchase. I am unrooted and it has been working good for me for about a month.
I wonder if it works in jb?
How did you do that?

I tried the apk from play store (Muller, Lemons, ...) but it didn't work on my rooted OTA JB VZW DROID RAZR HD. I saw on the google code page that there is a newer experimental apk (v3.3). Is that what you are using? There were a bunch of fixes in this issue that worked - was that what you did?
Go to the Google Website: code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/
Download: wifi_tether_v3_2-beta2.apk
In Change Device-Profile select "Generic ICS/JB (wlan0)"
PS - This is the only version of WiFi Tether for Root that currently works for the Droid RAZR HD XT926_verizon.

I'm officially over my WinMo TP2. I am going to get a new Android phone through Verizon. Was looking at the Droid X, but open to suggestions.
1) What phones have you all been able to successfully tether to the Xoom Wifi WITHOUT it being rooted? Also, I do NOT plan on paying Verizon for their mobile broadband option. If that means I have to root the phone, I'm fine with that. Please let me know if that's the case.
2) What Android/Verizon phones do you recommend in general?
Thanks in advance for any feedback!
I am currently tethered to my Droid Incredible. Running Cyanogenmod 7. I know you were looking for solutions without root, but you also stated that you didn't want to pay Verizon for tethering. Not sure that you can do that without rooting. The native, built in tether with CM7 works great. Based on my personal experience, if I were in the market for a new VZW phone I would probably look at the Incredible 2.

The Xoom doesn't have support for ad-hoc tethering without being rooted. If you can find a phone that will tether wifi in infrastructure mode, the Xoom should work without issue.
I've got both my DroidX and Xoom rooted and I tether my Xoom to it without issue after installing the tethering mod for ad-hoc support.

I know you asked for vzw feedback but fwiw I've been tethering flawlessly with my evo.
Evo is running cm7.0.2.1
WiFi Xoom is 100% out-of-the-box stock
iphone 4 via bluetooth
My wife has a G2. I can turn the hotspot on and connect via wifi no problem.

I can do the same thing with my HTC Inspire from AT&T, granted my phone is rooted but it hooks up without a problem to my unrooted Xoom on the Hot spot!!!
Verizon is going to charge you every cent you're gonna tether to your xoom. So no tethering or hotspots unless you root it

Hey all!
I rooted my rooted Samsung Galaxy SII T989 for T-Mobile yesterday, and went to install wifi tethering with barnacle today. I was about to install when I saw the button "Wifi Hotspot" in the notifications bar. I clicked it, and used my wifi tethering. So my question is, what is the point in using barnacle? I can apparently now use T-Mobile's hotspot service for free, so it seems pointless to use a third party application. So my question would be: what is the point in freezing the wifi tethering process, or installing a new one when you can just use the normal tethering app?
Additional note: I'm using the Darkside Evolution Rom
It's all the same, same with HTC portable hotspot it does the same as WiFi tether or barnacle from the market

Hi all, I came from sprint/Evo 4G to the goodness of Vzw/GS3 recently and have a question. With the evo I used WiFi tether or the hacked hot spot app to tether my suckass 3G, and sprint couldnt care less, I noticed that the Verizon tether app worked out of the box without rooting or using WiFi tether. Does Verizon not care about tethering? Or would I be getting a nice fat charge on my next bill without knowing? I'm rooted now and could use WiFi tether if I had to. Thanks

If you just changed to Verizon and are on the tiered plan tethering is free for you. It will use your data and only charge if you go over your data allowance. If unlimited Will use your data but not charge anytime. The roms are bypassing the Verizon authorization by using tether toggle in dropdown. The carriers dropped their app on top of Android native tether in framework thus hijacking native tether. The toggle connects direct to tether thus bypassing the app.

All Share Everything plans come with tethering included. In other words, you can do whatever you want with the data you purchase.
What the above said. Just be careful and watch your data cap. The over charges are crazy with Verizon.
Is there an app that does it on AOSP eclipse rom that bypass verizon or is there no verizon code in AOSP ROMS? Wifi tether from the play store should work?

I'm an unlimited user running 4.1.2 rooted (stock rom) on my s3 i535. I can use native wifi tether with no problem but USB tether gives me vzw subscription message.
I've poked around google, and motorola users seem to have gotten around this by adjusting 'entitlement_check' in their settings.db, which of course, I can't find in mine using SQLite.
Does anyone know what/where the db entry for usb tethering is for the verizon s3? Is there a custom rom that will unlock it for me?
And for people wondering why i would want USB tether even though I already have wifi tether working, is because my new router (asus n66u) allows for sharing my data connection via usb tether.
bumpy bump
Good question. Rebump.
Bump
I have recently purchased the Asus AC66R and would like to know this as well.
There are plenty of 3rd party apps available that support wired tethering, pdanet worked great for me before I rooted for usb tethering.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Tapatalk 2
I bet some of those third party apps work just fine for vzw users who aren't grandfathered in on their unlimited plan, but using the ones i've gotten from the play store, i get the vzw 'please subscribe to tethering plan' message.
and the other apps that want you to install software on your PC to enable tethering to that PC probably work as well (this is what i think PDAnet requires. I could be wrong), but i'm trying to tether to a router USB port. so I can't install software to it.
So unless there's another specific app someone knows of, any other ideas?
one last bump? anyone?
First of all are your phone rooted ? Second of all if its not rooted go to the internet and download a app call black market and on there is tethering apps that do not require root

Is there a way for me to do wireless tether with unrooted 4.4 droid maxx? Foxfi was broke on update :/
Not at this time.
Bump?
You can pay Verizon for a tethering plan and the native hotpsot will work. As far as I have seen, that's the only way for now if you are unrooted KitKat.
One more bump..
FoxFi can tether through Bluetooth or hardwire if you're not rooted. It needs a helper app on the client side though.
Easy tether pro
