I cannot boot into recovery. I used a rootkit to unlock my bootloader and root my phone. TWRP worked fine when i tried it out for the first time and than i forgot about it. Today I tried to access it and it would not work. When I try installing TWRP from GooManager it just says it will download but it never does and then after a while the app shuts down. I tried flashing clockwork mod recovery from Rom Manager and it downloads all the way and than says that a problem occured. Can somebody please help me with my situation. When I press the power button and the volume down button and it brings me to the bootloader and i navigate to recovery, it just brings an android guy with a red triangle. please help me. I just want a custom recovery. I don't care what it is. Either TWRP or clockwork mod.
UPDATE: I figured out I lost root access so I rooted again and I now an successfully rooted but I still do not have a recovery. I tried to boot into the stock recovery but it will not work. It just shows a red triangle. So than I got TWRP Manager and tried to install TWRP from there but it still will not work.
UPDATE: I got Rom Manager and I looked in it and it said that I still had TWRP when I really had no recovery. So than I saw the option to get ClockWork Mod Recovery. I clicked on it and it installed successfully! So if you are having this same problem. Good luck to you. I hope what I did works for you.

Glad you got it sorted. For future reference, that android guy with the exclamation is stock recovery. You have to press vol up and power to get the menu to come up.

Have been trying to flash clockwork recovery through rom manager for a couple of days. It always says Flashed succesfully but when I try to go to recovery it takes me to the bootloader. it happened after i updated to the newest version. anyone else have this issue or is there any other way without using ADB? Im not good at that.
do you mean when you go into the bootloader (vol up + power) it doesnt automatically bring you to recovery? (this is not supposed to happen) or when you select the recovery menu from the bootloader it just reboots the bootloader again
it just reboots the bootloader
This may be of help to you.

Thanks! Booting recovery (either from the bootloader or from 'reboot to recovery in ROM manager' was just hanging on "Google" for me. This fixed it!
i finally was able to adb got it thanks for your help
Has anyone else had this issue? I have loaded the CWM recovery, with success according the the message i get after loading it. I try to boot into recovery to flash my SU zip, and when i hold down the volume buttons and power to boot into recovery, i get a little android man with a red caution sign coming out of his chest. I did do some sort of Motorola OTA update before i loaded this recovery, wasnt sure if that was affecting it. Anyhow, it lets me go into recovery if I keep pressing buttons, but then when i try to run my SU zip, it says signature verification failed, and when in recovery, it doesnt say anything about it being CWM recovery. Any help is appreciated!
edit: When i am in recovery, at the very top, it says Android System recovery <3e>
does that mean my recovery didnt load properly?
Well I did a factory data reset, then flashed my recovery again and the custom recovery loaded and I was able to do the SU zip update. So I am guessing this means that the update is somehow messing with recovery loading? Thought this might be something good for you developers to know.
Assuming you're using the stuff from shabby's post that was put up not long after the phone was released, I've not yet seen anyone say that this still works after performing the Moto update.
Moved as this is not development therefore doesn't belong in the development forums.
Thanks
AvRS
OP, it sounds like you didn't flash CWM correctly the first time...
The behavior you describe is the stock recovery.

The problem is that either the CWM recovery didn't take, or it did but when you updated, it reverted to stock recovery. I don't know which as I'm not familiar with the OTA you are referring to
Either way, you can try flashing CWM again and see if it takes

I installed the latest OTA update to my reverted back to stock, but still unlocked Q. CWM recovery and SuperSU worked on first try.
It sounds to me that CWM just didn't take. I remember reading something saying that the photon q will re-install the default recovery upon boot. It took a couple tries but I think what worked for me was flashing it through fastboot, then immediately rebooting into the recovery without ever letting the system boot up. After that it went right into CWM and has since gone there everytime.
Hi,
I am trying to flash my LG P500 to Cyanogen Mod 9 and the manual I found stated, that I should partition my SD card using Clockwork mod.
So I found ROM Recovery app in Google Play and installed it. Afterwords I downloaded Clockwork Flash using ROM Mangager app and everything seems OK.
But when I try to boot to clockwork mod, my phone is always being flashed into factory default.
I power off the phone, press vol down, home and power on buttons - the phone starts up, an animation of white box and android logo beside shows (with a progressbar at the bottom) - I think this is because of installed clockwork - then I release those 3 buttons I was holding, but the phone simply resets itself into factory default.
I also tried to hold those buttons all the way, until some "DOS-like" screen shows up, but the phone keeps rebooting itself.
The next thing I tried was to boot into recovery using ROM manager app, but it also did not work - I don't know, if it should boot into recovery by itself or I should press those 3buttons (vol down, home, power on/off)
Could you help me, what am I doing wrong?
thanks
It sounds like your phone is not rooted. Follow the sticky topics in this section for how to root your phone. Start with this one:

Once you have root, install clockworkmod again. Then, you'll have success.

no, my phone is already rooted
That's the stock recovery, that means ClockworkMod Recovery did not flash properly. See if you granted SuperUser rights to ROM manager, and check the SuperUser app if you had mistakenly checked 'Remember Choice'.

Dont use Rom Manager.
You dont have recovery installed.
Find some other way to flash recovery.. there are many in this forum.
I suggest you use Rom Manager to download CWM and then boot into cwm .
I suggest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1827723
This is safe for installing custom recovery.
Thanks to Shinobisoft.
Use AmonRA recovery. Works flawlessly for all roms in this forum.

EDIT- Typed captcha in the title bar. Sorry for my retardness.
Having an issue. I used this method to root my Verizon GSIII. I installed ROM manager and plan on installing a custom rom but when i attempt to install and reboot into recovery, it reboots and says "secure fail: keanel" on the top left and the center is giving me the "system software not recognized-go to Verizon store" error. Anybody have any ideas. Im fairly new to rooting and probably made some simple stupid mistake.
i have been been able to get back to the normal rom by booting to download mode and hitting volume down to restart. I cant seem to get to my custom recovery. it goes to the same screen if i try to install a custom recovery from rom manager. i seem to have both clockwork mod recovery and TWRP installed when go to recovery setup in rom manager.

You haven't unlocked your bootloader.
Install ez unlock v. 1.2, 1.4 has some issues, hit unlock then you're done. Then you won't get that Verizon message again.

worked. Thanks so much.
I just tried to root my S7 using ODIN and CF-Auto-Root (I've done this before without issue).
It failed for some reason and now I cant get into the bootloader. Vol up Home and power takes me to an 'updating' screen then a yellow exclamation, and finally what looks like the stock recovery?
The only useful option I have is 'apply update from adb'
How can I root and flash TWRP from here?
Thanks!
Ok one step forward two steps back.
I made a mistake - I was pressing vol up not vol down to get into the downloader.
I've now flashed twrp-3.0.2-4-herolte.img.tar but the phone seems to be stick in a loop!
I can boot to TWRP ok, but when booting normally it just loops.
Ok I'm getting there...
re-downloaded and installed TWRP. It seems to have worked this time and boots the system normally afterwards.
But I still dont have root.
I also tried factory reset (from android menu and TWRP) both fail and nothing is reset.
I followed this guide http://www.stechguide.com/root-galaxy-s7-and-install-twrp-recovery/
If you have TWRP, then just flash supersu for root
Download the Superuser Binary .zip from the Internet and flash it through your now working TWRP Recovery..?
You managed to get the Bootloader working because you formatted the data and that deleted everything including the Root binary. So you just have to download it again and flash!
Let me know if I got you wrong in any way because this seems like a quick fix.
