Very slow charging - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
When I got this phone I was surprised how fast it charged straight out of the box. Absolutely amazing and very fast!
After unlocking the bootloader, and installing the latest:
Cataclysm ROM
KOT49H
Stock kernel
It is verrrry slow now compared to the lightening fast charging I was getting straight out of the box
Any ideas?
Using supplied charger that came with the phone

Are you also using the supplied USB cable? Are there any obvious damages to the cable?
What recovery are you using?

Using TWRP. Exact same cable and plug as supplied and its never moved from the plug socket

I'm using Cataclysm + Faux. I've also used Franco before. My phone charges insanely FAST. Much faster than my Note 2.

Try using stock recovery, see if that makes any difference.

Battery charging extremely slow?

Hey guys I just got my nexus s and im wondering why my battery is charging so slowly. I started charging it while it was completely dead and it took almost 6 hours too completely finish charging. Is there something wrong?
Btw I just got the phone yesterday and this is my second charge.

Are you using the factory wall charger or? Are you charging with a wall charger or USB hooked to computer/car? I honestly do not notice this problem with the NS.

I was using an iPod wall adapter right now because i forgot mine at home..
Also I know this is offtopic but can someone tell me how to optimize the battery life on this phone? Idle why but I feel like the battery isn't that great on this phone

Mine took like 3hour 20min-ish for the first charge. 3hour-ish for the second and third.

If you have the Super Amoled version, then you can use an all black desktop screen saver, switch your email/Facebook/weather syncs to a later time (2-6 hours instead of every 30 minutes), put the phone in 2g only mode when your not browsing the web or downloading apps, etc.

What the hell does this got to do with a 6 hour charge time ? As if the display is on all the time... or as if the syncing uses 10%+ off battery. It has nothing to do with this stuff, you're just not on the same page as the problem.
Try again with the original charger plugged into the wall socket, not into USB.

Why don't you read before you post tough guy? You sound real stupid. The OP asked an off topic question about how he can gain better battery life. "Hooked on Phonics" anyone?

Oh, I get it. Sorry, my bad.
I realised my Nexus S does take some time to charge up fully as compared to my Incredible S though.
Charger's rating is diff though after observing. 1A against 0.7mA

Mine takes about 3hr 20mins(+ or - 10 mins) usually. I guess that's pretty normal?

Charge issue USB/AC

Sometime when I was flashing different kernels I noticed my phone now thinks my charger is USB and is going VERY slow to charge, I've wiped my phone and switched kernels/roms over and over but it won't go back to AC when it's charging is there something I'm missing to fix this?

It's an issue with some kernels, restore a backup or do a full wrote and it should clear it up.
If it still won't work then it's hardware related
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
It seems really random, I restored my AOKP ICS harsh kernel backup last night and at first it was switching back and forth between USB/AC then after a minute stayed on USB, today I restored Cm7 backup to use the camcorder then I restored the same backup from last night and now it's staying on AC
- just to test, it's been plugged in for 20 minutes and on AC, I unplugged it and plugged it right back in and it's only staying on USB, tried a different charger still USB
Is it safe to assume it's my phone at this point?
E: If I only push the charger cable in VERY slowly, stop halfway, it will go to AC then if I push it in completely it will stay but if I just pop it in 9/10 it goes to USB
-It does this with the two chargers I've tried, one an actual removal USB cable and one that can't be removed
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk 2 Beta-6
Sounds like the Charge/USB port may be going bad.
Well that sucks, no chance to get a refurbished one then either since I can't connect it to my computer to remove the nvflash? Lol

you could try, if your still in the warranted time, just flash a 2.3.3 rom and try removing the superuser.apk file using a file explorer program (i think its in /system/apps or something close to that). it cant hurt to give it a shot right?
I'm sure they'd figure it out just by the second LG screen with the blue background popping up right?

You'd be apprised how little they actually check for this stuff. Allot of them only check for superuser.apk

Thanks, he didn't even seem to check anything for root just said he didn't understand why it wouldn't connect to the computer and okayed getting it replaced

[Q] Skyrocket boots when charger is connected

I can't seem to find this particular problem anywhere. With my i727 off, when I connect the charger, any charger, it immediately boots up. I have turned off + on Boot - animation, sound, shutdown animation. I am on Embryo 6.11 and this has just started recently. Any suggestions?
If I had to guess I would say your usb port is dirty and contacts are being jumped.
Either that or the chargers you're using are no good.

Thanks, I thought it might be something like that. I will search for USB port cleaning techniques. also try to test chargers.

Not at the moment, however when I get home in a couple of days I will try that again. Thanks.
Stock charger works fine. Aftermarket unit appears to be the culprit. Even the wife's Blackberry stock and car charger (AT+T) work OK.

Did you do the battery mod (aka pulse charging)? Looking at the graph, it looks like there was a lot of quick charge/discharge cycles. Pulse charging will force more juice into the battery due to the charger starting at a higher output for the first second when it it first plugged in until it settles to the correct output. If i remember right, this is due to the capacitors in the charger ramping up to being at full operating voltage from 0. Usually this only takes a fraction of a second and is only done once when the charger is first plugged in, however some clever person discovered if you can leave the charger plugged in and turn on and off the power to it quickly (this is where the pulse name comes from) it will continuously be in that higher output mode and force more juice into the battery. Those that have reported being successful in doing this have done so by doing things like plugging the charger into an outlet that in controlled by a light switch and switching it on and off quickly for a length of time. You have to be careful though, the batteries have been known to catch fire when pulse charged since they were never designed for it.
For more information see forum.xda-developers.com/Imadeallthisup! Do NOT try this
I had CM11 and then flashed franco kernel and battery was the same as yours 4040% and 3838%. Flashed stock CM nightly and all ok now.
Nobody has achieved over 9000 yet huh?

That is my exact combo, thank you for your insight.
With that being said is there anything hardware wise I need to worry about.
