I'm using a poetic brand flip case which has this feature. Just Google poetic flip cases

Here's an excellent case that does just that

As per my understanding, auto lock in flip cover requires proximity sensor information to lock/unlock the phone.
I am not sure how the cases mentioned above works...
Can any one help to understand this?

I've got just a random flip case wich i think it doesnt has such a feature but i thought it should work with the sensor like during a phone call so it could be controlled with an application?

It's pretty easy to set up with Tasker... I've been playing around with it for a while.
I have a flip case also and I have that set up already - it's crazy useful. Search online there's tons of tutorials explaining what to do.

Flip cases just need a small magnet that let's the phone know it's closed. However the light sensor on the phone would register very dark inclosed within a flip cause which could be used to set this up with software.

Smart stay app from the GS3 is very interesting and something that we need for our beloved G Note.
Many apps from GS3 have been ported to Note like the Svoice but I have not seen any single thread where there is a mention of the Smart Stay.
Are developers working on porting the Smart Stay to Note ??
Please this is something that will surely improve our experience with the Note
I am sorry but what its all about
i thing GNote have not sensor .
I bet it makes use of the front camera, so no special sensor is required.
@deadlyheart4u it's a feature that will prevent the screen from turn off (sleep) if the system detects your eyes are busy reading something on screen. Clever huh?

Even I feel the same that is only n using the front camera. Hope someone it's able to clear doubts

It's using front camera, after timeout settings time is reached, you will see a short "blink" of the screen, and the camera sensor takes over "timeout" function.
check Engadget's review of the phone (the video).
I tried the phone myself and it is not using the frontcamera, since this would use too much battery. They have placed 2 sensors next to the camera that are using low power/battery compared to the camera.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
It can't be the sensors, as those 2 are proximity sensor and light sensor.
Even on the release they said it used the camera.
it is indeed the front camera that checks ur eyes...
as i saw..it works from browser...maybe the browser has this feature?
It does use the front camera. It works in a similar way to face unlock.

Front Camera + Blink Detection !!
So now that we have how it works is someone working on porting this application to our note.

Well i am expecting smart call also, that is only gesture based, If the msg client is open and you turn you're phone straight means phone should make call.....hoping a quick apk

+1 on that
I would love smart stay on note as well
Yes... Smart stay and smart call.are both great features to have on more.

Common developers, I am sure you guys with your great knowledge will be easily ble to crack it.
Another one i miss is the pick up the phone to your ear to answer a call without touchng the screen
I was quite impressed when I saw / read about this feature. I like to read while on the go (one of the reasons why I got the might Note) and having to switch on the screen every now and then just annoys me. Hopefully somebody will be able to port it or create a replica
I don't know why but people were fast to port the tw but no one seems instated in porting the most useful feature to note.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Why port a small feature when you can just port the whole rom? Still, it doesn't seem like anyone is willing to start porting it.

This app uses your phone's motion, gravity, and proximity sensors to automatically turn on and off your screen so that you don't have to press any keys (software or hardware).
For instance, when I put my S4 inside my pocket or holster it to my belt clip, the screen turns off automatically. When I take the phone out, the screen turns on automatically as well.
I've tried a few apps similar to this before but this one just works very well and consistently.
I already installed it on my mom's and wifey's S2s and they love it too~! Just wanted to share the goodness~
Wow it is pretty impressive! Thanks for sharing. .

No problem. I figured there must be others who will find this kind of app convenient to have around. I just love not having to press the home or power button every time I want to turn the screen on.

The author of the app said to expect a hit about 5%. I've been using it for 2 days now and I haven't noticed any difference so far. But then, I'm running on the ktoonsez kernel with -50mV, all-around.
Freekin love this app
Thanks for the heads up op! works like a charm, now I've got to get used to not pressing my power key on wake

The only time the screen turns off on me when I don't want it to is when I text and I accidentally rest one of my fingers over the proximity sensor by mistake. Otherwise, it's been good. I wish there was a time-delay option for proximity sensor to turn off the screen so an accidental finger covering up the proximity sensor doesn't turn off the screen right away.

I see. It's an extra step but you could pull down the notification menu and pause the app before gaming then turn it back on afterwards. My mom tells me that sometimes when she's watching Netflix, the screen turns off on her. I told her not to cover up the sensor but she just disabled the app.

According to GSam battery monitor, Gravity Screen Off is responsible for only 0.2% battery drain. I haven't noticed any extra drain because of this app.
I have this "feature" on my NX5. What it does is it locks itself when I set on the table. Sometimes it works.... sometimes it doesn't.
I'm using the Stock Kernel and Stock ROM with gravity box. I looked at it and noticed that feature is not included inside gravity box.
So I wanna know if anyone has this rather buggy "feature" on their phone. If I try to unlock it it'll lock itself again... And if I try again it'll lock itself yet again. Eventually it stops though. Only works when on a flat surface too
I have a video if anyone wants it see it. It's really weird. Anyone got this at all?

If I hold straight above a few cm above the tbale it turns itself off. Few cm up and boom it's on.

I think you are having the sensor being tripped that activates the sleep feature. If you hold a magnet above the screen very close to the volume button and slightly higher, it shuts the screen off. It is a feature to make cases power off the screen when the case closes. Try it with a magnet, you'll see what I mean. I'm willing to bet there is something magnetic in your table triggering this sensor.
@BCSC sounds like a logical answer.
Tested your answer and yup 100% correct.

Yes, this was my reasoning behind asking about whether it was only on certain tables. I was wondering if the table had some kind of magnetic charge or something

Naw man you know the Samsung flip covers that have a magnet that turn on the screen when the flip cover is opened? The nexus 5 has one of those magnetic sensors so something in that computer is emitting a magnetic field enough to simulate the flip cover closing when it goes closer to that corner and turns on when farther (flip cover opening)

You can root your tablet and install xposed framework, there is a module called MagnetOff which disables the magentic sensor.

+1 He is absolutely correct. Ity has to have magnets. That is what trips the eletronic magnetic strip under the housing to trigger a poll on the LCD to take action.
Developers don't need no stinkin' signature!

Hi Duly,
I have the official Samsung Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 Book Cover. Without the option in question turned on, when I open my book cover, the screen is black, and I have to press the power button to get to the lock screen, then swipe to get to my home screen. When the option in question is turned on, and my book cover is closed, all I have to do to get to the home screen is open my book cover (I do not have to press the power button and swipe) to get to my home screen. I thought that was what the person who wrote the post was asking about. So for me my tablet does wake when the feature / option is turned on and my book cover is opened from a closed position.
I currently have the auto unlock unchecked and do not use a lock screen. Opening my book cover turns on the screen and toggling that option has no effect. I'm not sure why yours acts like it does. I even tried enabling a swipe to unlock lock screen and all that option does for me is bypass the swipe screen if the cover is used to wake the device vs the power button (which sounds to me like that was the intent of the setting to begin with).

Is this normal or is there any known issues with this.
Thanks.
