my Black N5 from Google Play US shows up as Hammerhead D820(H) in the bootloader.
Is it a typo or another variant?
I searched pics and YouTube vids as all of them are just D820.
Mine does as well, not sure what it means. Is yours also a 32gb model?

After upgrading the bootloader to HHZ11k, it becomes "hammerhead D821(H) 32GB".
Sorry to revive this old thread but I just got my second nexus (black 32GB from Play store) and my bootloader says
hammerhead D820 (E) 32GB
Weird huh?
Actually, for a few years now, I actually believed he was saying "I'm not wearing Hockey pants"
The radio is the same for both model I think, thats why it shows H.

Mine also shows (E). Why is that?
First device was (H). Everyting else is the same.

mine is just 'hammerhead D820 32GB'
D821(H)
Mine has the H too...
So I asked for the difference between (H) and (E) on http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!category-topic/nexus/RoG--ZWDA6w but the answer seems BS to me. I can flash the same factory image on different phones and still one is (H), one is (E).

Update your bootloader to newest/correct version, HHZ11k.
Still no idea what the letter stands for
Tapatalked from my Nexus 5
32gb white has an E....
Maybe the H and E is a code for which factory the phones were manufactured in. It's a way for LG and/or Google to keep track.

Just checked again and it now says hammerhead D820(E) 32GB
Wondering if flashing clockwork did something.

Hi
I've noticed that on Google web page it shows two Nexus 5 versions - \
one that supports LTE bands 1,2,4,5,17,19,25,26,41
and the other called "Rest of world" uses LTE bands 1,3,5,7,8,20
my question is -
If I order a Nexus 5 from USA, will it work LTE on a European network that uses LTE band 3 & 7 ?
if not, is it possible to unlock it? I don't think that LG is making two production lines for this...
thanks in advance!
Who knows?

Not possible, both devices (US and Europe) have different hardware (radio chip).
Is there a way to buy the European version in NY?

No idea, you could check out this site http://www.handtec.co.uk/mobile-phones.html for a International N5 version (both 16 and 32GB).
Does anybody succeed trying this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ad-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269 ?
Thanks
No

Unless you want to replace the chips inside your phone and swap it out with an American model. No you can't.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/radio-enable-lte-band-3-nexus-5-d820-t2928561 yes it is possible.
Sorry rootSU for resurrecting an old thread to post a link (did not check the date) also excuse me for my incompetence when it comes to the topic. Will not do that again.

"Fun fact: The D820 and D821 modems have matching md5 sums. They are the same modem byte for byte.
This means there are no "D820 modems" or "D821 modems".. there are just "Nexus 5 modems"

Not sure why you're resurrecting an old thread to post a link to a new one. Everyone already knows the new thread exists.
Also FYI, bands are not related to modems.
Hello, I have a silly question that's bugging me, I have a Nexus 5 and on my fastboot my model says D821 (H) and on my friend's it says D821 (E), what could it be the difference? Could it be sale country (my was bought from Play Store UK, his was bought from Amazon Spain)?

It's a revision to the bootloader. The letters are incremental and correspond to the most recently approved version. It might depends on
Whether you bought your phone with 4.4 or 4.4.2 pre-installed or if upgraded via OTA.
But it has a "bootloader version" line below it.
my "VARIANT" says "hammerhead D821(H) 16GB"
my friends says "hammerhead D821(E) 16GB"
mine's a 310K from GPlayStoreUK bought the day it was released, with android 4.4 and OTA'd to 4.4.2, my friend's a 401K from Amazon Spain, bought this month with 4.4.2 pre-installed.
Hello, I am going to buy this Nexus 5 in U.S. (NY) next week.
What should I know befor buying it? I am not from U.S. (from Israel).
What should I check or ensure?
I am going to buy it from T-MOBILT by the way.
Thank' guys!
You should know that you'll be buying the wrong version for use in Israel. There's two versions of the Nexus, one for North America (D820) and one for the rest of the world (D821), the difference being the radio bands that are supported, specifically the LTE bands. So while a North American model will work oversees for voice and 3G data, it won't for work 4G, as it doesn't support the proper bands.
Everything he said^^^^^^^. Also you should check out a few review videos on YouTube to get an idea of what the Nexus 5 has to offer.

why would i, as an american, need to generally buy a phone that is meant for European countries?
the US uses different LTE bands than the European countries, so thats why the hardware (note: radio only bands only) is different.

http://www.myworldphone.com/ sells the international Nexus 5 D821. Their store is located in New York City (in Queens close to JFK Airport). You can do online chat with them to confirm before you depart home.
Do the Sprint and the Unlocked Nexus 5's have any hardware differences? Does the unlocked Nexus 5 support Sprint Spark?

Any Nexus 5 is the same regardless carrier or Play Store. The only two models are the international and the US models. If it works with Spark when buying it from Sprint, it'll work with Spark if you buy it from the Play Store/anywhere else, because it's the exact same device.

No idea what Spark is. The Sprint Nexus is just a US unlocked Nexus, so not even sure if the Sprint Nexus works with Spark, but as already mentioned, if 1 nexus works with Spark, they all will.
Yes, it is spark enabled

I'm contemplating a Z3 this month (Price drop when the Z3+/Z4 is released.) I'm seeing multiple model numbers for the Z3 & I need to know which one is best. I'd prefer one that's root-able and LTE enabled. Root should be easy with an international phone with the unlockable bootloaders. Is there a 32 MB variant?
Also do these models overheat and shut down the camera sensor like it did on the Z2 (I had it)? Currently using a Note 4 but I need a water proof phone for vacation coming next month!

About model number there is a thread here on xda as for all rest, just short info: bootloader you need to unlock only...only if you want custom kernel, 32 GB is only T Mobile version as I read...it does overheat while recording 4K video (depending on environment temperature it can go from under 5 min, to unlimited on north pole LOL)...

Does the T-Mobile variant have locked boot loaders? D6603 is the international 16GB model and I think the TMo is D6616... I'll have to find that thread somewhere...

6603 is international version...most common but mine bootloader can not be unlocked (says that in secret menu)...
I have the D6616 and love it but it only has 3 LTE bands and I believe most of them are the same as AT&T except it is missing one LTE band for AT&T, so for compatability sake get the international version D6603 and yes it's boot loader unlock able if you get unbranded version.
D6603 has only 16GB but better AT&T network compatability along with unlockable bootloader vs the D6616 whose only advantage is 32GB storage.

D6603 direct from Sony's store has an unlockable bootloader.

I can confirm that this device works GREAT on AT&T - it's been my daily driver since November

Thank you, after reading the loss of some features after unlocking the bootloader I wonder if I should just root it with the bootloader locked?
Entropy, I'll trade you my ATT Note 4 for your D6603 ?
