I and my roommate have the Nexus 5 on Sprint and when we set the timezone to auto it will change us to Eastern even though we're in Central. We're outside of Nashville, TN.
Is anyone else having this issue?
This is probably an issue with the NTP server that the phone is using, but when I call Sprint about the issue, they think I'm speaking another language. I just manually set it for Central to resolve the issue, but it still annoys me since I have to manually change it when visiting family.
I'm outside of Nashville as well and i have this issue,as does my wife on her GNex. I just set my timezone manually to central

Me Too
The same thing has happened to me twice in the past month on my Sprint Nexus 5. Or perhaps I should say a similar thing has happened. I also live in the Central time zone and my phone was showing what looked like Eastern time (1 hour later). Going to Settings -> Date & time showed that I was actually displaying something called "Easter Island Summer Time". I have been in contact with Sprint through their "Community" forum but so far they haven't been much help.
Hmm, I noticed this too. Weird.
In all honestly using network time setting AND location positioning was a nightmare when I was on Sprint with this phone. I never had a single issue with my old Evo LTE but with the Nexus my time would randomly set itself 6 hours ahead and location would constantly report me as being 350 miles away on the complete outside side of the state I live in making any and all location apps(weather, google now, maps) near useless.I had reps resync my SIM and refresh my connection a couple times and the issue never resolved itself. I switched to T-Mobile's $30 plan the beginning of the month and haven't had a single issue since.
Edit: I'm in central time zone as well.
I have the same problem I made a post, but no one was able to help. I just manually set it from now on.

I've seen it happen before when Sprint contractors were messing about with the NV 3G side of things over here in California (equipment got set to EST instead of PST) but it's been corrected as the clusters fired up.
Hmm it is fine now. I switched back to auto. They may have been changing equipment or something. Wichita is getting upgraded to Spark supposedly so that makes sense.

same issue here, austin tx area sprint. set to auto and reboot and it reports correctly...then randomly will switch to eastern.
whats interesting is that the phones clock in the upper right will report eastern time while BW clock widget reports the correct time (cst)
only thing i have found for consistency is to set time zone to manual (as others have reported)

Same here, Nexus 5 with Sprint here in California went one hour ahead, so I had to put in back to manual time for the second time.
I can relate to this problem too, when freshly boot Android "e.g after custom rom install" it's shows me 1970 years and blabla so it's a little annoying every time after fresh android boot to set up correct time and date.

So I recently "upgraded" from a Nexus One to a Sensation, I've bought the Canadian version from Bell. Anyways, it seems that all text messages I receive are -4 of the current time I am in. I remember having this issue in the Windows Mobile days and it was fixed by a cab.
However, I am led to believe that this is an issue with the whole "Bell OS" that the carrier has put on the phone. Using a Bell SIM card all times appear normally, but using a Rogers card it gets all messed up.
Is there a way to fix this without root?
Do u have your date, time set to auto?
I've tried disabling that, and restarting and still nothing.
I'm pretty sure this is a common Rogers problem and is not Sensation specific. I've seen this on the Desire Z forum too. I think there's an app on the market called SMS Time Fix or something like that to fix the problem. I think some apps like Handcent also have a built in timeshift option as well, which would fix this problem.
Yeah had the same issue with my Desire before root. SMS time fix works great.
G
Weird how it doesn't effect my Nexus One. I have checked out the app in the market, and it seems like kind of a cheat for a fix. But what the hell, I'll take it for now. Until we get S-Off and flashing, I guess it's my only option.
Any other Sensation Rogers users getting this?
All my friends and I using Rogers have this problem :=/
Have no idea what the North American telephone vendors are doing. They suck :=D
I've been doing some Googling for a while, and I mean a while, and I have come across dozens of threads discussing this (whoops).
Anyways it seems that on Bells network, they send you the timecode in GMT, making the phone fix it. Whereas Rogers ends you the timecode in your time zone. In this case, the Bell phone is still thinking the time is GMT so it "fixes" the time again thus causing GMT-4x2 and causing said offset.
After fiddling around with the time and time zone for a good while this is my new conclusion.
- The actual time the phone is set to, makes no difference. I set my phone to be 1AM and I still got the timecode as 5:11 (when the current time is 9:11).
- However when I changed the timezone to GMT -5, the timecode appeared as 4:11.
So whatever the time is in the time zone the phone is set to -4.
Had the same problem with my new and unlocked Bell Samsung Galaxy Gio on Rogers network and nothing helped.
Here's how I fixed it:
in Date and Time, I disabled the automatic time setting and then selected my time zone to GMT +0.0 (Greenwich Meantime) and then manually adjusted my local time in Toronto and voila!
Hope this works for you guys too.
hey I use a bell sensation on rogers to.... one day it just fixed itself
on a side note, I S-off and switched to Revolution 2 days ago and the phone is a million times better all that bell bloatware gone!
Hi all, woke up this morning to find some strange network errors when using the mobile data network (AT&T).
Error: 502 Bad Gateway on certain sites and apps.
Not working: ESPN, XDA, Speedtest.net, Yahoo, Gamefly, Crackle, Pandora, TuneIn Radio Pro, Flixster.
Working: All google sites and apps, Netflix, Soundhound, Kindle, Nook, Groupon, Urbanspoon, Amazon Appstore, Comixology, Draw Something, Flipboard, Instagram, WhatsApp, Skype, Zinio.
Have not tested all on Wifi, but ESPN and XDA did work at home this morning.
So, can anyone test any of these sites and report back? I wonder if it is a local ATT network thing or something more widespread. I doubt it's a problem with the websites.
The only thing I did this morning was flash V2 of Scott's extended quick settings. On the off chance that caused the error, I flashed back CleanRom 2.1, but the errors remained. Every site was working perfectly yesterday.
Thanks
I have the same problems, my data doesn't work at times and wifi drops like crazy, this is annoying
I only created an account here because no one else on any site is reporting this problem.
The same exact thing is happening to me this morning also. This is very annoying. I did nothing out of the ordinary last night. Last thing I did was check ebay then stop most of the non important apps still running before I went to bed. I awoke this morning, checked my email and went to work. I went to check ebay this morning and the 502 bad gateway appeared. I then went to check my hockey schedule to see the time of my next game. Same 502 error. I went to reload a page I had saved in Safari. Same 502 error. I just did a bunch of searching for this 502 error & AT&T & IPhone or ANYTHING. THIS IS THE FIRST SITE I HAVE FOUND THAT ANYONE ELSE EVEN MENTIONED THIS PROBLEM.
I have a VERY HARD TIME believing that we are the only 3 on the PLANET who are experiencing this. But somehow, NO ONE ELSE IS ASKING THE QUESTIONS. Once I saw that you Artoods had the same problems, I checked the sites you said were working. That appears to be so. My Google, Netflix & drawsomething are working fine. (My Urbanspoon does not appear to be working though, the circle just keeps spinning) So not sure what is happening, but you are not the only one.
Hrm usually means a poor connection. Have you guys tried driving a few miles and try using a different cell tower? It could help you find out if it's just that tower then you would have something to tell your provider.

I am at the workplace, so I cannot for another few hours at least.
Just tested ESPN.com on a co-workers iPhone. Took forever and a half to load, but no 502 error (tried on my phone 5 feet away and still no-go). Will try some others.
In any case, I am going to pass by an ATT store on my break and ask around if the problem persists.

Ok, everything appears to be working for me again. I just went to lunch (about 20 minutes long), when I left for lunch and while waiting for it, these things were still not working. But as I was sitting at my desk eating, I tried again and everything worked. I just checked probably less than 5 minutes ago, so this is all still fresh.
Everyone should check their phone again now. I am not sure why this happened, but for me at least, it appears to be working again. I'll update if anything changes. Thanks to Artoods for first reporting this problem and others for confirming that I wasn't the only one.

Actually no. I am 15 minutes north of Philadelphia, Pa. There is a tower in a town called Willow Grove, maybe a 5 minute drive from here. To my knowledge, that is the closest cell tower.
Network issues but different
For the sake of not starting a new thread, and I have searched for my issue with no resolve here. I am having a slightly different issue but still a strange network problem. I work in an office that carries no cell signal whatsoever , and when I walk outside my phone will indicate that it has obtained signal, 3bars - full service with 4g coverage. However when I attempt to dial a call the phone sits at dialing until it time out like there is no service, no matter how long I wait with it showing signal it continues to do this. The only solution I have is to put the phone in airplane mode wait about 5 minutes and then turn it off. Once it reacquires signal all is good.
Any one else having this issue
Update- Working for me now too. Funny enough, I had to go to the ATT store to handle some account stuff, and when I mention to the staff member the little issue I was having in the morning, my test page loads up perfectly fine .
Still find it very odd that the error was selective about which websites were accessible.

I used to have a similar issue with my old iPhone 4, although I did receive some signal in my office (31st floor). If I went up or down once connection was lost, I could only regain by cycling the airplane mode or mobile data. I'd chalk this up to loss of signal causing temporary radio craziness. Luckily no such issues have plagued my One X so far.

Yeah I kinda figured, I just purchased on 17th and am coming from and Inspire 4g, rooted running ARHD 7.X.X. I never had the issue with that phone but it wasn't "4g" nor was it the same radio. I was just checking if someone had the same issue and had another solution. Maybe a new, Im still running 1.73....
Much thanks man.

Wow small world, Willow Grove is about 5 minutes from me too.
I wonder if constantly having LTE on is causing problems, maybe it gets stuck trying to acquire a signal
I think AT&T may have had internal network issues, I was having pretty severe connectivity problems on mobile data for a while on my Inspire today, cleared up by lunchtime though.
Had the same network errors this morning. I'm actually traveling in south Florida and it cleared up by around noonish today. Weird

I have had this problem and have spoke with tech support with no solutions as of right now. The time on my phone should ALWAYS be right......ALWAYS!
It is off (behind) by as little as 6 minutes...or as much as 20 minutes. I have never had this problem on any phone...ever....in my life. I am not rooted and have not done anything other than set-up my phone the way I like it. I have tried using network settings to set the date and time...and also leaving that box unchecked in the settings. The problem always returns, and stays for around 10-30 min...then it keeps good time again.
Tech support checked their network and the communication to my phone and some other software logs and said they can tell I have wifi issues and there is a update coming to fix that sometime in the next week, but everything else looked fine. I am tempted to return it and wait for the GalaxySIII. The local AT&T store said they wont be able to exchange it anytime soon...and that they aren't even sure when...if ever...they will have more in stock- due to the apple lawsuit and the injunction!
Has anyone else had this problem and fixed it?
Any idea's?
I don't want to root it cause I may return it.
Any help will be appreciated
Thanks
I had just noticed mine was off by 16 minutes. I powered down the phone, restarted, and it has been fine since. I'm assuming something on their network caused a bad sync. Hopefully it is the end of story.
I had Tech support on the phone yesterday and they said it was not their network. I have found a few others with this same problem too. Mine was off by 20 min and I had the -use network for time- unchecked! It was a phone issue separate from data. One guy on another forum said it was only when connected to wifi...with mobile data on- and the phone was sleeping for a long period of time would his time be off. I am going to test this theory out and leave my wifi off tonight, and mobile data on. I will post back with results in a day or two.
If this is the case...maybe it does get fixed with the OTA that comes out this week?...it supposed to fix the wifi issues, so maybe it fixes this too
If rooted just use Clocksync because AT&T is godawful at keeping good time on their towers.
If not, your only recourse is really to just uncheck and recheck the "use network time" setting.
I don't think you read the previous post's ?

I see a notification popping up a few times a day (on the left of my shade) with a picture of cellular bars and a question mark next to it. If I click it, it asks if I want to sign into 'home'. Since this is my first GSM phone, I wasn't sure if this was a

I apologize in advance if this is some commonly known GSM thing and easy to resolve, but this is new to me. I poked around on Google before posting to make sure this wasn't super obvious. Attached are two screenshots. If it helps, I have straight talk as my MVNO for ATT. Thank you all!

Nope. There are no SSID's with the name home. Also, the icon looks distinctly cellular and not WiFi (see original attachments and see if you agree)

I'm in the same boat as you -- ATT on Straight Talk, first GSM phone (Nexus 5) and I noticed this very same thing this morning too and wondered what it was about.
For me it just started today.
Hope there's someone out there that can tell us.
I'm on a T-Mobile family plan and it happens to me too all the time, I just clear the notification and nothing happens, I still have service when it comes up though.

I had a GNex & Nexus 4 on StraightTalk & I never saw that. I've had my Nexus 5 for a week & a half and I never saw it until yesterday. Now I have seen it twice in the last 24 hours. It is something new...
I just started seeing this also. FWIW I'm on Straight Talk (AT&T) also.
I'm getting it also. Straight Talk AT&T LTE SIM. Pressing the Notification takes me to google.com in chrome
Getting the same icon, att lte sim straight talk

I found this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2168814
To sum up, several ppl were having this issue with N4 on Net10 and then Straight Talk. One guy says toggling Airplane Mode fixed it for him.
Also here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219588
No solution in this thread.
I also saw this one my Straight Talk LTE Nexus 5.
Interesting...
The APN I was using was an ATT one that was on my phone when I first got it. I had modified it with the ST settings.
I created a new APN and entered only the specified fields from:
http://www.straighttalkbyop.com/program.php
Then I selected this new APN as active, and deleted the old APN. Toggled Airplane Mode to reconnect to the network.
The "Sign into network" warning hasn't popped up since. I was getting it every 10 mins or so.
Update
Nevermind... As soon as I left work (and presumably changed towers) the notification was back.
It doesn't actually seem to cause any problems for me but it is weird...
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I've had my N5 since Nov 4th and only started seeing this a few days ago. Never saw this with my N4 or my GNex. The N4 went to my wife after I got the N5 and she hasn't seen it happen on the N4. I just upgraded the N4 to KitKat last night and am interested to see if it starts happening. We're both on Straight Talk, though I have a LTE SIM (APN = tfdata) and she has the old one (APN = att.mvno). On another note, my daughter has an iPhone 5 (LTE SIM) which used to show "HOME" as the network. It very recently started showing "TFW", which I assume is "TracFone Wireless". The same happens if I put my SIM in the iPhone. Not sure if these things are related, but both changes occurred very recently.
EDIT: This behavior does not seem to occur when using a "real" AT&T SIM.
I'm having the same issue. Hopefully someone will post a solution soon.
For future readers of this thread, I have not received any more notifications. I did not change anything on my phone, so I assume it was an issue at the provider level (Straight Talk).
I can confirm that for me on Straight Talk this was wrong APN setting. I was missing MMS port and that was enough to trigger this warning. I believe the phone tries to check for new MMS or something and login fails without port, which triggers this message. Since I changed the APN to the same settings posted by embhorn couple of weeks ago, no question mark.
Please Help to signal problems question mark icon
Hello ... Greetings to all. I just wanted to ask a related solutions to these problems? Because at this time I experience it. I wonder what causes it, but I think this is the problem of the provider APN settings. Currently I'm using CM11 Custom ROM. But, strangely I didn't experience this problem when I was on the stock ROM. I beg enlightenment, hopefully someone can help. As seen in my post here. Because the thread for my device section nothing is peeling this problem. Thanks In Advance.
Regards.

Unable to establish a wireless data connection
LTE: ESM - 38 EMM - x
In the notification panel it shows:

Mobile data connection error
I have spent hours on the phone with Sprint and they have not been able to permanently fix it. The last person talked to told me to take it to a store and they could fix it. Well, we all know how that goes....
There is 1 temporary fix. If I put in the Dialer code: ##72786# and let it do its thing, it will have no issues until the next time the phone is restarted.
I have update the PRL and profile numerous times. I have installed the latest system updates, factory reset. Nothing permanently fixes it thus far.

this happens to me occasionally as well. Not sure what is causing it. I normally toggle the "Mobile Data" on and off to get rid of it. It is at random times and not that often but it is annoying for sure
I noticed this today also. I toggled airplane mode but it keeps coming back...
I also have an S8 from Sam's with this same issue, as well as 2 G6's that i purchased from Sprint's web site that constantly drop data connection. Tried all kinds of settings changes, including changing bands, carrier aggregation, reset network, sim pull, etc and currently have a ticket open with the "network team". I have an S6 on the account also that has been upgraded to Android 7. It has no issues at all. Also, the issues seem to only happen in LTE only areas, I have been to an LTE-Plus area twice and the phone maintained a constant connection. That makes me think this is related to HPUE. BTW, the G6 will stay connected for 10 seconds on lte, then lose all data connection for 15 seconds, then repeat. I have watched and timed this behavior with a stop watch for close to 30 minutes, while moving and standing still.

They thought it was a defected antenna which I figured it wasn't, I tried dialing ##omadm# and changing to sprint development mode which phone wouldn't activate only in production mode would it work, also seems to only be the phone I got thru mail without a set msl this one is 000000 my other galaxies have sprint set msl

Are you in an LTE-Plus area?

I am not sure how to tell if an area has LTE Plus, but I live in SW Virginia and went 3 hours away for a couple days to Richmond and had no issues. So, it's definitely the network in certain areas.

I am also in SW VA, and after speaking to a few stores, one mentioned that it has something to do with the nTelos merger. I have to use 3G from Roanoke to Danville on a daily basis. even though it is fairly solid LTE coverage.
If you look at Sprint's coverage map, LTE Plus is a darker color. Richmond and Norfolk/Hampton Roads area are Plus.

I have assumed it was something to do with nTelos. I live in Roanoke and work in Christiansburg. The issue is in both places. Follow my instructions in my OP with the dialer code and your LTE will work fine, just have to do it anytime you restart your phone. No need to suffer on 3G.

I doubt it has anything to do with nTelos. I live in Michigan and I get the same issue with my s8 plus and whatever nTelos is, we don't have it.

nTelos was a regional carrier in VA, WV, NC, OH, MD. They were purchased by another local company, Shentel, that operates under Sprint. They are not an MVNO though, they sell Sprint branded phones and service. And all the stores changed to Sprint branding. It could be a different regional carrier from your area, This merger happened a over a year ago and that is when we started getting LTE service. I think the merged network is not capable of dealing with HPUE. That is the common denominator with the G6 and S8.
Galaxy S8 plus and S8 same error
So if I understand all these comments correctly, there is still no resolution to this? I live in Huntington Wv and yes we did have nTelos. I have 2 S8+ and 1 S8 all get this error. I have a ticket in for the network team but I'm not holding my breath.
I am also having this issue. I've done ##72786# that seemed to fix it, but it's back. I change to CDME/LTE from automatic, and it still happens. I was about to do a factory reset. It's my only complaint with this device, otherwise I love it. I am in southwest PA. It seems to happen during cell tower hand offs like if I'm out driving. I just toggled data and the error went away.
Edit: I'm on the S8 Plus but I don't think that makes a difference.

On my phone it starts doing it again after doing the dialer code only once I restart the phone. Is this your problem?
