[Q] Is my device ATT? - Motorola Atrix 2

I know my device is not ATT (since it does not have ATT logo on it), but I am unable to flash Chinese JB leaks on it. When I try to flash it using RSD, it fails at first step. I wonder why I am unable to flash JB leaks. I am on Asia Retail Stock ICS 4.0.4 now. When I bought it from my friend, it has ICS (i dont know wch one). I soft bricked it and flashed Asia retail ICS via "restore to ICS.bat" method. After that, I was eager to flash JB leaks but never succeeded.

I think I tried flashing Asia retail FXZ after that and it didn't go past 7th step (something.cdt). Even JB leaks are not getting flashed is the proof tht worst has happened.
I will try again today and tell the result. I dont have any idea abt the region of my phone and what firmware it supports. Any help to identify this would be appreciated.

So basically this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2165891 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2231581 is what happened with me. I am stuck with a mismatched cdt.bin and no place to find a solution. I request @alteredlikeness or @jimbridgman or someone who knows what can be done in this case to give a solution to my problem. Thanks.

I don't know if I was on TNZ ROM when I bought it, my friend tried to install 4.3 Carbon ROM on my atrix 2 using bootstrap method. It got soft bricked. After few hiccups, we got it back running using "restore to ICS.bat" method using SEARET FXZ. I was relieved that this bat file saved us. But now when I try to flash anything using RSD, it just wont.
So answer to ur question is - we used SEARET (Retail Asia) FXZ. I still use this same FXZ. I thought of using other FXZs, but sbf droid website which hosts all the FXZs is down now. I wish somebody create a mirror for all the ROMS.
P.S: Please reply soon. Feels like Atrix 2 section of this forum is dead when we get late replies.

I guess after using restore_to_ICS.bat file, your cdt.bin number has increased and hence, you can't use any other firmware other than ICS. BTW which region's ICS are you running now?

If you've used the restore_to_ICS.bat with the AT&T FXZ in it then you won't be able to flash anything else but the AT&T firmware. This is because the AT&T firmware is the most locked down of them all. In other words, no jb leaks for you. :/
If I had a dollar for every time I said that, I'd be making money in a very weird way.

Like I said before, your phone's cdt number has changed / increased, and hence the reason, you can't flash JB Leak which has a lower cdt number.

If you can ADB into the phone then you can just delete the CDT partition, and then RSD lite will let you flash whatever you want.
You do this, with the following:
1) Download moto-fastboot command:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953948
2) Save the exe someplace you can remember
3) Open a command prompt and CD to where you saved the moto-fastboot file
4) run the following command(s):
Code:
moto-fastboot erase cdt *NOTE this may not work and you may need to run the next command instead
moto-fastboot erase cdt.bin
5) Try and run RSDlite again and flash something and see if it lets you get past the flashing CDT.bin step

No problem. Just go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650 and read the section on how to flash the FXZ. make sure to look at the bottom part where it tells you to replace some files. you will need to do that. Instead of using the ATT FXZ file like they say use the one that matches your current version (SEARET I think you said) and follow the same directions, but use that file instead. Get if from here: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php

can i should replace some file in above zip? because my phone is 2.3.6
Code:
How to flash the FXZ once applying the OTA update and get back to 2.3.5, ONCE YOU UPDATE TO THE OTS 2.3.6 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FLASH THE 2.3.5 FXZ WITHOUT FOLLOWING THESE STEPS BELOW!!
NOTE: Download this file HERE -
Unzip it and move all the the items in it to the stock fxz. You might get a warning about replacing files, just click OK. NOTE that Windows might not be able to handle the size of the fxz. I have 6 GB RAM but Windows still wasn't able to perform a drag-and-drop through the fxz's zip. I recommend that you just unzip the fxz and then put the files in. (You don't have to rezip it either, RSD Lite will still recognize it and will flash faster).
You should be able to use RSD Lite to flash the file.

Yeah, I was being stupid. Was the phone originally ATT when you bought it, or was it indian. that makes a big difference. you need to know what it said under settings > about phone.
anyways this should fix it, just use which ever fxz is right (from my post in the noob thread:
just thought of an easier way to get you restored. Most of the time you only really need to do system. download the moto-fastboot utility (it's similar to normal fastboot but you MUST use it instead or it will not work) and the fxz for your region. Extract the fxz and put the system.img from it and moto-fastboot in the same folder. open a command prompt in that folder (hold shift and right click) and type
Code:
moto-fastboot.exe flash system system.img
moto-fastboot.exe erase userdata
obviously you need to have your phone in fastboot mode to do that. it does the exact same thing as rsd, just only the 2 important steps, flashing system and wiping data.)
Let me know how that works for you. It may not since you have had flash failures, but we'll see.
moto-fastboot: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=635584&d=1308928440 you should actually extract it and put all the things in it in the folder with system.img
Good luck!

Flashed my atrix 2 and fastboot fail
I bought my atrix 2 from US and unlocked it and am using this in india now. I tried to flashboot the phone with "5.5.1-EDEM-28-37-SEARET_cfc.xml". I added the new files thats available in the noob called replace.zip. I also tried the moto fast boot. Now am not able to flashboot and when i run flashboot i get this error "failed flashing process. 11/21 flash ebr "ebr"-> Phone returned fail; Phone connected" .
Please help me.
I just got my ATT Atrix 2 and I think I've already bricked it, soft at least. I used a script to go from 2.3.6 back to 2.3.5 stock, then OTA to 2.3.6, then I flashed the ICS leak and flashed SCV7, it was running horribly, kept crashing and was being extremely unstable so then I tried to use the FXZ script to go from ICS back to GB, and all my phone was doing was showing the Motorola dual core screen and boot looping or just staying on that screen I couldn't tell. I can get into fastboot, when I try to get into recovery there is an icon of a box with an arrow coming out of it and a little android and a yellow progress bar and when that finishes it goes to fastboot and it says "AP FastBoot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure) what can I do?
---------- Post added at 07:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:55 PM ----------
The battery is low going by my luck I'm going to assume the phone will not charge while in fast boot. I've been at this for way too many hours, if someone could tell me how to get this phone working I'd appreciate it.

anyone know where to find stock rom?

I have put a couple of roms on my phone and forgot to make a copy of the out of box rom the atrix 2 comes with. Does anyone know where i could find that do i can download the ics release for 2.3.6? i am currently on lithium rom.

The FXZ is actually several files that are basically disk images of the different partitions on the phone.
Fastboot is state and a protocol that the phone is in that allows you to flash it. the moto-fatboot untility "could" be used to flash the partitions instead of RSDlite, if you want to, and that is basically how I developed my return to gb script that we have to get back from ICS.

I don't think so, because bpear's script does not flash all the partitions that RSDlite does.
You really need to use RSDlite.
It is very simple just open rsdlite, and click on the ... button and select the xml file from the fxz and tell it to start. Just make sure your phone is in fastboot mode first.

The FXZ will put you back to out-of-the-box stock. Root and everything else, gone.

Did you go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650 ? And read the section under these bold red letters?:
"How to flash the FXZ once applying the OTA update and get back to 2.3.5, ONCE YOU UPDATE TO THE OTS 2.3.6 YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FLASH THE 2.3.5 FXZ WITHOUT FOLLOWING THESE STEPS BELOW!!"
Are you AT&T MB865? We need more information as to where you are and what you've tried so far to be able to help you...

It seems like neither of the links provided in the thread you posted are valid. I need to get ahold of the fxz as well, anyone else have it?

you still need to get the patch files for the fxz from the noob thread, here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
look for this:
Ok, super noob question. But which of those files in that first link do I want? I was stock US AT&T 2.3.6 (my phone shipped with 2.3.6, but I understand I'll still need the patch files) .
EDIT: I missed that one column. Think I'm good

[Q] Possible to manually apply official 4.0.4?

Hi everyone,
I've tried looking around for answer to this, but could not find anything, or at least could not find anything that said it explicitly.
So the OTA update is now live in the USA, but here in New Zealand no OTA update is available.
Im on stock 2.3.6, and unrooted, and when searching for updates nothing is found.
Is there any way to manually apply the US 4.0.4 official update? Such as flashing an official fxz file?
Would be really appreciated if someone could help me out in lamens terms!
Thanks!
If you have an at&t phone follow the instructions here to get on the leak http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1779968
After that you can OTA to the official, but we can't FXZ back from the official yet, so staying on the leak is still recommended.

Hi, thanks for the answer.
It does not have stock AT&T, so is it still okay to follow the linked process?
Currently:
System version = 55.1.28.MB865.TNZ.en.NZ
Android version = 2.3.6
Kernal version = [email protected]#1
Baseband version = 2012-02-03 07:56 Off.Bld LUD_EDISON_R1E_PATCH_24_120203_0746 ... (just in case this would create an issue doing OTA update?)

Then it would not work. The update checks for at&t bloatware. As of now I have not seen any update files for the New Zealand version.

DIDNT HAVE ENOUGH time to finish post, will finish soon, got school right now so dont start till i have finished it!!!
EDIT: finished
Heya fellow NZ'er, I got my motorola atrix 2 on ICS , and im here to help!
So follow these steps to get it working, First off, get moto-fastboot, extract it, and get the all the files inside into C:/Users/*Your name*/HERE.
Once that is done, get this file WARNING: its around 350MBs. Extract that file into C:/Users/*Your name*/HERE So that you have a whole bunch of .img files and a few otheres in there.
Ok now the tricky part, flashing the files.
MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS FULL!!!!
Put the Atrix 2 in fastboot mode by turning it on while holding power, vol up and vol down all at the same time. (I prefer holding vol up and down together first, and pressing the power button.) then press vol down to get to a selection called "AP fastboot" and then press volume up.
Once there, make sure it has installed the right drivers (Should be like Mot single somethingarather device) and then go to start and type cmd in the search bar. go to the program and then once in command prompt, type in:
Code:
moto-fastboot devices
Then your phone should show up. Next just copy this and right click and paste into Command Prompt
Code:
moto-fastboot flash mbm allow-mbmloader-flashing-mbm.bin
moto-fastboot reboot-bootloader
Wait for it to come back again from reboot
Code:
moto-fastboot flash mbmloader mbmloader.bin
moto-fastboot flash mbm mbm.bin
moto-fastboot flash cdt.bin cdt.bin
moto-fastboot flash lbl lbl
moto-fastboot flash logo.bin logo.bin
moto-fastboot flash ebr ebr
moto-fastboot flash mbr mbr
moto-fastboot flash devtree device_tree.bin
moto-fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
moto-fastboot erase userdata
moto-fastboot erase cache
moto-fastboot flash system system.img
moto-fastboot flash webtop grfs.img
moto-fastboot flash preinstall preinstall.img
moto-fastboot flash radio radio.img
moto-fastboot flash boot boot.img
moto-fastboot reboot
Now hold the phone.(Literally) Now it may seem bricked. Well thats what happened to me.
Anyway take the battery out, and wait a Full 5-10 mins (And i mean actually get a stopwatch if you have to), then put it back in then leave it to charge for about 5-10 mins (Even though it was full when you started RIGHT??).
Now it should boot up normally and on its way to ICSdom!
Hey, cheers for the reply!
Is that the firmware from the "Atrix 2 MB865 Firmwares SuperThread (Ice Cream Sandwich)" thread?
Just wondering if I will be able to get back to current/an NZ version after flashing that? My atrix 2 still has over 2 and a half years of warranty remaining so, kind of want to keep it under warranty if possible. I'm sure if its sent in with firmware that doesnt match the IMEI, it will be coming straight back :S

Well I was playing around with my phone, and was able to flash it with Telecom NZ firmware So im pretty sure if you need to get it fixed, you can just download the telecom NZ file thats in the same place, and follow my steps again, to get back to Telecoms firmware, Now time to get back to finishing my steps lol...
Thanks heaps for completing the steps, just got to work up the courage to do it now :S
The part where you said it seems bricked seems a little scary lol.
The drivers you linked are 32bit, did you run them on 64bit windows fine, or should I search for a 64bit version

[Q] Starts to Fastboot - Flashing Fails

Before I tell you my problem I'm going to outline the process I went through to get too it.
1) I upgraded my 2.3.6 Atrix 2 to ICS 4.0.4 on the Telecom NZ OTA update.
2) I attempted to flash my device to the Asian Atrix 2 Jelly Bean leak
3) Flash failed in process 1/14
My phone now boots to fast boot, however I can still start my phone by entering the recovery menu and selecting boot up normally (or whatever it is, I forgot the exact words)
Telecom NZ users seem to all have this problem when trying to to do this. How can I fix it so it doesn't start to fastboot?
Also what happens if my battery dies in fast boot mode?
Thanks William

[Q] Odin restore with jellybean files?

Hey all, now with the recent 4.3 update that locked the bootloader, i'm afraid of accidentally updating if i ever have to odin. So i have (ics build) VRALF2 MD5, and a VRALEC.bootchain MD5 files. If i use them to odin back to stock, i would be on an ics build, and i would have to update to at least 4.1 to use the casual root method, but if i do update, i will jump to 4.3 and then get a locked bootloader. Where can i find the jellybean versions to odin with, that can get me out of a soft brick? Thanks

Are you already took the OTA update? meaning you're running 4.3 right now? if you do, you can't flash anything else except for stock 4.3 rom and with the option to root your 4.3 (you can not flash back to the older version or any custom rom/kernel) .On 4.3 the bootloader is locked and nothing you can do for now. There's safestrap method to get around the locked bootloader but I don't recommend it for now.
I never took the update, i rooted 4.1.2 and put cm10 on it, and cm11 now. Im just afraid if i ever have to odin i will have to dig deep to find a root method for the old ics build and im not sure if the latest cwm will even work with it. Either way, it just seems like a lot of work, when i could just odin back to jellybean, root, and rom. Thanks for the speedy reply

You can just flash a pre-rooted stock 4.1.2 here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2178482
The link seems to be dead. I also have a bootchain file, which sounds like its needed for coming out of a soft brick according to this link It didnt seem like that download would of included that. However, im not sure if it is required.

OK, got it here is stock full firmware 4.1.2 http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23134718111254196 just unzip then use Odin to flash back to stock. After that you have to root and unlock bootloader...
Thanks for the link. The zip contains a file called "KIES_HOME_I535VRBMF1_1152558_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5" This can be flashed with odin through the pda slot? Sorry for bombarding you with questions, but i want to be confident i have a working solution if i ever need it. The link for unbricking shows to flash the root.66.TAR though the PDA slot, so i just want to make sure. It also says that the bootchains arent required. Also, is it fine that its a .md5 file? Thanks a ton, you have been so helpful.

Yes, just open Odin and pick PDA and browse to this file "KIES_HOME_I535VRBMF1_1152558_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5" the flash. This is 4.1.2 full factory firmware come with (bootloader,recovery,kernel,rom,radio..everything). Root66 is ICS 4.0 rom modded factory file and not include radio or recovery. In theory to recover you should use a full factory file.(KIES_HOME_I535VRBMF1_1152558_REV09_user_low_ship.tar.md5)
Thanks so much for all your help! Hopefully i wont need to do a odin restore, but if i do, now i'm prepared. Also, this thread could help someone in the future, which is nice. Again, thanks for all your help
