More Awake times at Work than at Home - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was wondering why my phone is having more Awake events while I'm at work than it did while I'm at home? Both locations I Use WiFi.

Please don't take this the wrong way, I just want to ask for my own curiosity.... If you are not rooted and do not plan on rooting, why are you asking for help on a developers forum that is centred around being rooted? Where teh assumption is that you are wanting to be rooted and are willing to do so to achieve the benefits of this forum?
If you have no intention of rooting, please be aware this is a developers forum, not a help forum so this probably isn't the right place for you to be asking for help. I can highly recommend "Android Forums" which is a great help forum for device specific users. I used to be a member myself.

I know this is a Developers forum, but I am asking a question about wake locks that both stock and rooted phones get alike. I did not have this problem with 4.4 so I was just asking for some advice on what could be causing it in 4.4.2. You can choose to leave advice or not, but leaving responses like this isn't helpful at all. I am not taking this the wrong way just wondering why you would take the time to "not be helpful" If my post some how bothered you please feel free to let a MOD know. I am very capable of ROOTING my N5 as all of my previous phones have been. I am just choosing not to right now. Also I thought I posted this question in the "Nexus 5 Q&A Help & Troubleshooting" forum. I didn't think it was just for "ROOTED" users only.

Ok I will install the app and let it Run for the day. Just curious though, when I installed it last night and clicked on Partial Wake, it said requires ROOT. Can you recommend the correct app to use? In case I didn't get the right one. Thanks

I'm just saying, because although BBS isn't requiring root, you get BETTER information if you're rooted so it would MAKE SENSE to root your device it you WANT ANSWERS.
So yeah, you are taking it the wrong way.

It requires root for Alarms. Maybe Sven had to make that change for it to work on KitKat. I've never not been rooted, so if it's changed recently, I wouldn't know about it.

Hi,
has anyone ever rooted a T-mobile MOVE 2.2.2 phone?

The MOVE obviously is not a very popular phone (given it is still on Froyo lol and I've never heard of it. I pretty much know every brand name phone so...), so it is doubtful that an actually user can reply
If you want to take on this tone, then allow me to ask you why you even posted this in the first place? You post when you need help, NOT to confirm if something is working or not when you have not even tried it. XDA is a dev forum and you will always be wondering if something (such as a ROM, recovery, mod) works, is compatible with your phone, if it helps in x or y way, etc.
The best way to answer your question is to try it yourself, and that is why my answer answers your question.
Given the fact that someone else used it and is the only source you could find, isn't your question answered? Thus this thread is useless and could you explain how this thread has any purpose?
In simple words, don't get fresh with any member who definitely knows more about rooting than you.

OK good luck. You could just read a bit, since I have spent hours making a guide or two, many others such as Ronnie and redpoint have spent hours putting guides and grouping all the info here and Devs have spent countless hours creating roms and discovering root methods. You can take some time to read the information and attempt to understand. If something is unclear or you don't quite understand then you can ask questions and I'm sure many people will be glad to help!

it's not that no one here is willing to help you out, you just need to know what you're doing before you do anything because of the huge risks you take in the unlocking process. if you're not willing to put in the time to read about everything before you ask questions and ask for hand-holding, then you should reconsider unlocking.
Here's some material to start with
Sticky #3: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232141 (pay attention to rule 1)
Sticky #4: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754018
The unlocking thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283760 - read this 5 times over before you actually do anything. and follow each instruction VERY carefully.
Once you're done unlocking: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2286587
Lastly, people are here to help each other, not babysit you through unlocking. If you ask nicely, someone may decide to help you through it. We've all put in hours into reading and researching and searching for answers. Work like this on a phone requires a base level of knowledge so you should strive to learn enough so that you're able to do what you need to in order to unlock your phone. Also, a post like this belongs in the Q&A subforum.
Good luck!

[Q] Download

Hello everyone. There is a thread with a root toolkit, here.
But I can't seem to dowload the kits from the download tab. Nothing happens. I can't use direct download or torrent. None of them results in anything.
There no problem downloading from other sites, I have rebooted my router, restarted my PC, cleared cache and so on.
Any tips or alternate links?
Thanks

We'll, you can do what you want. But you'll be better off in the long run if you learn to do it the right way. The n5 is a real easy device to root and rom. Learning to do those things rather than using a tool kit will save you a lot of headaches in the future

If you use a toolkit, you'll be back on here begging for help because you bricked your device. If you want to mod, either learn to do it the right way or don't bother at all. Save yourself and the XDA community the headache.
Just to reiterate the above, don't use toolkits. When you need help, it's much harder for us to explain how to fix things if you don't understand our "language".
Not sure how many other people that do this but if a first post says "toolkit" in it, I stop reading.

I'm not entirely sure where I said that I don't know how to do it either way. I've been rooting and installing custom ROMs and firmware since Nexus was first released. I just find it easier (I'm lazy) to use a one click toolkit to get it done. That doesn't mean I don't know how to backup and restore stock.
If I want to use a toolkit and ask for it I really can't understand the judging in here. It's my choice, and your conclusions are that I'm a noob because of it? yeah, what a great and "friendly" community this is. I might save you the headache cus this is just ridiculous.
Thanks anyway for your heartwarming words.
It takes about two minutes to root without a toolkit. But of course you knew that already!

Relax, don't take it so personally. I get it, you're not a newb. When you come here asking about toolkits with a single-digit post count, it's a fair assumption. Either way I don't see the purpose of toolkits for a Nexus device. I encourage everyone not to use toolkits but to root the proper way. How hard is it to type "fastboot oem unlock" and "fastboot flash recovery recovery-twrp.img"? It's not like it's Samsung or something where you have to find exploits and hack to get it unlocked. Google gives us all the tools we need to unlock Nexus devices. You don't have to know how to code or anything to use the tools. There's nothing to gain by using one-click toolkits and root methods, only to lose as you never know exactly what they're doing under the hood. Toolkits cause more problems than they solve, especially when used by those with little to no experience. As someone else pointed as, when inexperienced users use toolkits and inevitably run into problems, it's difficult to explain how to fix it because they don't understand the steps we're telling them to take. It may as well be Greek to them. For these reasons I always discourage the use of toolkits.
Thanks all. I did it the "proper" way

yea, but they still dont allow these. the answer will be the same always, read the threads/ops, decided yourself what you want to try out, try out different roms/kernels, then decide for yourself. they have threads here, so you can read them, not so others can read them for you.

Okay yes, I apologise if this is not allowed in this thread. But im asking for a ROM that HAS Multiwindow function built into it. Flashing every ROM and seeing if it has Multiwindow would take a few days. If you don't know the answer, dont reply to this thread. simple.
Multiwindow is big deal. If a ROM has it, its listed in the OP.

q&a is for many things, but not for others to tell you what ROM to run, that's your job. read the q&a titles, no one else is asking what ROM they should run.

lol, days my butt. you'd be lucky to use a partial day flashing Roms with multiwindows, maybe just a few hours total.
Well you just download a bunch, stick them on sd/otg flash, boot, flash , boot. You don't need to reconfigure the OS every time just to see if it has multiwindow
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
@Andypandiiee I'd highly recommend looking at the OPs and see which has multiwindow. Part of being on XDA is reading and discovering for yourself. I don't think this is a best ROM/Kernel thread so I don't see any problem with it. But there are plenty of ROMs, and people do use a multitude of them.
Yes, as mentioned...ROM opening posts almost always list the features, or links to a site that does.
If you don't want to read the opening posts and look for multi window listed....perhaps flashing ROMs isn't for you? Reading and reading and reading some more is what XDA is all about. Especially the opening posts of ANYTHING you are thinking if flashing. ?
Edit: the amount of time this thread has gone on.....you could have found your ROM long ago by reading the different rom features.
It seems apparent no one is going to go look for you.
We got an RC party going on here? I had to hand in my RC badge a while back but I hope you guys still like me!
As stated ROM and kernel choice are influenced by a huge amount of variables, that's something you'll have to find out yourself by trying a bunch and seeing what works for you. "What ROM should I use?" is just a thinly veiled way of asking what's the best ROM, so it's against the rules.
Thread closed.

[Q] Please help a total noob with updating my OPO

Hi guys,
Backstory: This is my first phone that I have ever rooted and kernel (franco). I was able to root my OPO with the links I have found on this subreddit (took me an hour because I am a noob). However, I am still new to "flashing, wiping, zip" etc terms.
Currently my OPO is: 11.0-XNPH33R
Kernel Version 3.4.0 franco.kernel #22
This is all that I have done with my phone. No other mods or customization. I want to update to the 38R.
I have seen the links in this subreddit on how to update without wiping data on the phone with modded 38Rs files and etc.
The thing is, I still feel uncomfortable with how to update my phone because the steps I see is "....flash this, boot that, reflash this..." etc.
I need some detailed directions, as if I am a total noob. Step by step directions.
I currently have the OTA update on my phone's update setting.
I am asking wholeheartedly to find someone who is willing to spend the time and effort to help a noobie like me in updating my phone. (I hope this will teach me on how to update my phone in the furture by using this as a reference)
What are my steps to update my phone? (Please be very specific)
Please forgive a noob like me. I thank you for taking your time to help me.

That's awesome. But, @PaoloMix09, why do it via PM? The whole point of having a q&a section is so that valuable information is readily available for those who are seeking it. The help you have given is of no benefit to the community if it's buried in an inbox where nobody can see it. In future could you please assist people in the threads? That way everyone benefits [emoji1]

Totally understand. I actually helped through hangouts. Reason being, since he is just learning, wanted to provide guidance and him being able to reply to me asap helps a lot. He was also asking many questions, best way was definitely on chat this time. Not only replying to him in here would've taken longer, but he probably wouldn't have understood some things. Just what I think.
I will try to respond on here more often.
