On HTC Panache (MyTouch 4G), the procedure is documented at http://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_glacier. But selecting any menu option in ClockworkMod recovery caused the ClockworkMod logo to be displayed; tapping the power button returned it to the menu... had to remove battery. Tried 3 versions of ClockworkMod. Couldn't find any discussion of this issue. TWRP2 worked perfectly. http://teamw.in/project/twrp2, but with a special build not available from that page: twrp2.2.2.1-glacier-recovery.img from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1884892.
I tried ROM Manager but it wouldn't let me remove or downgrade ClockworkMod, so installed TWRP over ClockwordMod using:
fastboot flash recovery twrp2.2.2.1-glacier-recovery.img
Would be worth noting for newbies that Google Play / Market must be installed from the command line as well. (http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip)
Notable improvements over HTC Panache stock:
- Apps run faster!
- Facebook app works again.
and all the other cyanogenmod stuff.
4ext is a great recovery environment too. My personal preference.

Phone: Telus HTC Desire
Well, I followed the guide for the HTC Desire on the Cyanogen Mod website but I did not get all the way through, I have installed ClockworkMod Recovery in ROM Manager, but when I try to go into ClockworkMod Recovery to flash radio, my Desire restarts and shows a black screen with nothing on it, the phone is rooted though.
Any help ?
Sounds like you put the wrong recovery image on your phone. What image did you use? there are two that work good for Telus Desires. One is a custom 2.5.0.1 image and the other is 2.5.0.7. Look here for working images:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763558
Can I recommend that you do not use ROM Manager for your Desire. RM work awesome for other devices but it is hit and miss with the Desire. I always reboot into recovery and flash manually.
Hi Guys,
I'm fairly new to flashing custom roms. I've just tried to flash my HTC Sensation which was previously running BulletProof 2.2.1. It's been S-offed and and I installed clockwork recovery as per the guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300. First I flashed it with the HTC Sensation Revolution Rom (which I think gave me 4EXT Recovery Touch), I then reflashed with Bulletproof ROM.
I then downloaded this version of MIUI.us http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1295200 and copied it onto the SD Card. Then I did the following (some of these may be redundant but I did them just in case)
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache
3. wipe dalvik cache
4. format all patitions (except sdcard)
Then I used install from zip to flash with the MIUI rom I downloaded.
I've tried this several times and I keep getting this problem:
MIUI will start up and lock up randomly, sometimes I'll get as far as entering my google account credentials. After it locks up it will reboot the device.
If I leave the device without touching it it will keep rebooting at random times, sometimes before MIUI even boots up (straight after the MIUI splash screen appears)
I've done many google searches and even searched on this forum and the MIUI.us forums. I've read similar problems but never a solution that helps me. Does anyone know what I can do? Bulletproof is a nice ROM but I'd like to be able to use MIUI.
Thanks in advance for any help.
EDIT (SOLUTION):
It seems that I'd downloaded version 1.12.23 rather than 1.12.30. The official site only has 1.12.23 listed under the Sensation 4g. Here is a link to the actual .30 version (link found within the MIUI ROM Thread above at the bottom of page 624) http://download.nexus-lab.com/miui/versions/MIUI.us_pyramid_1.12.30_Eng_Deo_ZipA_Signed_pimpmaneaton.zip For anyone else encountering this problem make sure you check what version you've downloaded.
Also. If you came from another from. Check that the kernel your using is up to date. And a stable release of it. The stock kernel in the miui distro isn't all that good IMHO.

I have a HTC Desire, which I rooted using Unrevoked.
This updated my recovery to ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7 - which was great and I was able to backup/restore/apply new roms. Also ROM Manager worked and I could use that application to access the recovery modes/scripts.
ROM Manager then got updated, including the ClockworkMod (5.0.2.0). Now ROM Manager fails to run any of the scripts when starting in recovery mode.
When I manually boot in to recovery, I am still on the 2.5.0.7 version and not the latest. I've tried applying the 5.0.2.0 update - which updates for that boot, but on a reboot reverts back to 2.5.0.7.
So, my questions are;
- To update my recovery program do I need S-OFF? Currently still have S-ON.
- If S-OFF, will a simple 'apply update from sdcard' update it?
Thanks, A

HTC Desire (Bravo) - ICS 4.0.3 CM9, b0.2.5 ROM.
Samsung Galaxy 10.1 - Stock ROM.
I have S-ON on my Hero and I always updated my recovery. I don't think it would be a problem.
Don't use rom manager. Just copy the file to your SD and flash it manually trough recovery (flash/install zip from SD), it should work.
Thanks.
but.... nope! It's stuck on ClockworkMod 2.5.0.7! As I said I can flash it to 5.0.2.0 and use it, but next time I enter recovery it's back to 2.5.0.7!
If it's not S-ON that's causing it, could it because I rooted with Unrevoked? Some how that's locked it to 2.5.0.7?
Thanks, A

It could be unrevocked, but not sure. I rooted a Desire owned by a friend but with S-OFF.
He never had any issue.

Same problem
I have the same problem.
Some help?
Thanks
O.
same here...tried everything!
Same here.
Rom Manager fails. (says it's worked, but upon boot to recovery it's the same 2.5.0.7
Rom Toolbox just fails and admits it.
I tried following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608042 thread, and tried basically the same thing via the android-terminal as well. Every time it fails.
When trying via the terminal (android or adb) I get erase and write fails, and a run out of memory error. I would like to update CWM so that I can partition the SD using the phone.
Any help would be really appreciated. Thanks.
The Answer
Well I found the answer for me. My problem was that I still had S-On and had to get that to S-Off as apparently my phone (HTC Desire) has an advanced security feature put on by HTC that stops you writing to /System, which is a necessary location to write to to update CWM. I got S-Off by using revolutionary, which was pretty noob friendly despite the scary words on the page. (google for revolutionary s-off)
Revolutionary just requires the HBOOT version and the Serial Number of the phone, which you find under the battery. DLed the fastboot drivers as they recommended as well. Once I got S-Off, I was able to use Rom Manager to update the CWM to 5.0.2 or whatever the latest is now.
Hope this helps you as it did me.
PS I have previously tried re-running unrevoked whilst the phone had BCM ICS (CM9), which didn't work (error was "is your firmware too new?"). I then downgraded to CM 6, and tried again with unrevoked, but the Rom Manager still wouldn't upgrade CWM. I checked HBOOT and as suspected still had S-On...Revolutionary is your answer methinks
so which CWM RECOVERY is latest without S-OFF and with option to partition SD EXT2/3/4 etc? thanks.
I've been looking for an answer with the search function (and of course i've googled the qustion) but i could not find one.
I've the Tmous Sensation 4g with stock-rooted ics and CWM (S-ON). Can I switch my recovery (cwm) with 4ext? and if i can, how??! should i follow the regular process for install 4ext?!
I need the swithc because to install a new rom but i'm not looking for go through the Jupuntobear process so 4ext it's the only "good" way left
Download this file extract the files and place the recovery.img file in the tools folder of your SDK folder. Hold down shift and right click, then select "Open command window here" and type the following into the window, "fastboot recovery recovery.img".
Or you could download the 4ext app from the market and install recovery through the app. I did it this way with no problems.
Edit: sorry, you need to be s-off to do it this way.

Well not for me, i did my very first install of ARHD on CWM. It went fine, next time i went to recovery i had 4EXT. That was a couple of versions ago.
Worth a try.
fantastic. i just did this (was easier for me im s-off) and love 4ext
I have been using RM and CWMR since mid 2010, and never considered it was anything but the default app for flashing and the CWM was the "goto" recovery. But I am considering flashing zydroid because it looks like something that would work well for me... But I keep running into TWRP...
Since I may be old school, can someone tell me (I) if this TWRP recovery is advisable, (II) if this is only a One-S thing, or is there a "changing of the guard" taking place, and (III) I already installed goo manager...But I don't see how to change/flash the TWRP recovery, and if it is as simple as just flashing it like we do using RM.
Thanks a lot!

In goo manager press flash roms then press try to find me one. It will give you a few prompts and will flash twrp for you simple as that. The next time you boot into recovery it will be TWRP. I'm pretty sure you'll like it.
On a side note TWRP CWM back up and recoveries aren't compatible with each other so once you flash TWRP make sure you make a back up.
Also as long as you have a S4 processor you shouldn't have problems with anything as far as flashing roms or recoveries.

Just do it, you won't regret it. TWRP is awesome and has so many features. Like states above me, make a backup once you install TWRP since your cwm backup won't work in TWRP
HTC One S running Zydroid!
You also just need to open goo manager then hit menu and one of the options is " install open recovery script", click that and follow the prompts. Boom done.
HTC One S running Zydroid!
Ok.... Do I run the open reccovery script, or do I follow your instructions in your first post? Are they separate (in other words)?
Oh.. and as long s you are here.. what is your experience with Wi-Fi after flashing Zydroid compared to "stock" stock? Any problems?
How is the bootani, etc. Things you think are pretty cool?
Really like the parts of Sense that mod AOSP a little, but I would love a ROM that is a touch of Sense 4 without all the underlying garbage that is either TMO or HTC 's doing.
Alright, I am going to flash (or try to figure it out) and make a backup.
Oh wait, one more question. Besides booting into recovery to Fix Permissions, does goo manager have an option to Fix Permissions while the OS is up? Because I couldn't seem to find it.
Thanks a lot!

Just open goo manager and press menu, you'll see install open recovery script. That's it, it won't even reboot and you'll have TWRP.
Zydroid works perfectly for me. In fact it's the only rom I installed that wifi even works. I like it and won't leave it unless something incredible comes out that just kills zydroid. There are add ons all available thru goo manager along with kernel choices.
So for me, TWRP is is definitely the way to go. With TWRP you don't need to fastboot boot.img separately. So not having to hook my phone up to a pc and just be able to flash roms when I'm at work and such is a huge part of my decision to go with TWRP.
It's basically stock one S rom with the nice features built in and all of tmobiles crap taken out.
Fix Permissions I know is in TWRP, not sure If you're given the option thru goo manager
