Galaxy dock sound redirector - Omni Features Development

Unfortunately the dock sound redirector does not work.I am on the latest nightly dir jfltexx. According to the dev this will be an easy fix.would be great if you could consider it within the next nightlies.

Ugh, audio routing is a nightmare.
The fix isn't as easy as he claims there... Handling Samsung dock audio has always been a huge mess. Seems like every time someone touches it they wind up breaking another device.

I agree. This feature is almost a deal breaker for me. I'm hopping it is a simple fix. I really like Omni, hate to have to dump it over this.

In CM11 nightlies it is working just fine. Maybe just copy the audio config from them?

Any Good Music Player Apps?

I am looking for a music player with a good graphical equalizer. I have yet to find one that works without flaws...
(Running MIUI ROM)
MIUI stock music player:
Sounds good, equalizer is satisfactory, but you can't tell it what folder to pull music from. It just reads the whole phone. It has a setting that you specify minimum file size for, but that's crap. Should be able to just tell it where to find music and only load that music... It also skips/cuts off etc A LOT!
PlayerPro:
This player has a really crappy equalizer. The only positive I can think of about this app is the ability to use SRS enhancement in HTC phones that have it. This one skips/cuts out music more than any other app I have tried. No matter what happens, screen turns off, like 5-20 rapid cutouts. Quality of playback is poor. Accessing certain features are a pain and needs to be able to be accessed from Menu button while in the player, not just the main screen. But the cutouts for anything happening to the phone, browsing for the next song, volume up/down. Minimizing, screen on off. Huge/a lot of cutouts in playback.
PowerAMP:
This was probably one of the better apps. Great equalizer, very direct navigation to whatever you need. But this player also suffers from the cutouts when locking/unlocking or interacting with the phone. This app does have that Buffer setting, but even set to huge (725ms) it still suffers from these cutouts. And the update that came out today.. well that just screwed it up even more...
UberMusic:
Smooth, looks pretty, can tell it's a complete rip from Zune so I know how to navigate it at least. Cutouts while navigating the phone weren't nearly as bad, or didn't happen. The problem with this app is that it doens't have an equalizer. I googled, and found out that Fede (many may know him from that scam app LPP) promised to implement an equalizer. That same dev also promised a re-write of LPP be the end of 2010 and look where LPP is at.. completely abandoned for this music app. With that history I won't buy his music app until the equalizer is implemented. But based on what he's shown with LPP I don't see that happening for 932750923 years.
WinAmp:
Loved it on my computers since middle school... But for the phone, the cut-outs are almost as bad as PlayerPro, and it also has a pretty crappy equalizer.
Anybody else know of a good/smooth music app, with no cutouts in music playback and a good equalizer?
Thanks!

have you tried any of those one a Non MIUI rom? Reason I ask is that there is APP issues with any and all CM based roms including MIUI. Main reasin I ask is I do not have this problem with any of the music apps you mentioned, short of the MIUI as I have never used it and never will.
I only used LeeDroid prior to flashing MIUI and the stock (Sense) player did everything I needed it to without problems.
I guess it's possible this is a MIUI problem. Such a shame... smoothest/fastest and most customizeable ROM I've ever had on a phone.

I use powerAMP and have used prolly every rom made for the inspire. With a few exceptions. I don't have your issues. ./shrug
As for Your Miui claim, You have only used Leedriod and Miui. You may want to check out a few other roms. You claim fastest smoothest and have only tried two things.
Thats alot like claiming MCdonalds is the best berger when you have only tried MCdonalds and Burgerking.
Truthfully there are alot of burgers out there and you would be "missing" out.
FYI MIUI is not the fastest/smoothest.....lol
I used many ROMs on other devices. Tried MIUI back then and it was also the smoothest for me there, just couldn't deal with the facebook issues, the camera issues, the GPS issues etc etc it had at the time.
Can you recommend another ROM that's as small and fast/smooth as MIUI?
Try Absolution. I too am an advocate for miui but flashed about 3 weeks ago and haven't gone back!!!

If the reason really is due to MIUI being based on CM7, then I think this ROM would give me the same result, no?
I'm willing to give it a shot this weekend though. I don't see any screen shots in the thread for the ROM though, (and no place holders like I get from blocked content [at work, ha ha] like other pictures) could you post an SS of the notification pull down? I've grown to really like the 2 page system on MIUI...

I am currently using whats in my sig. And I don't have the issues you are having. With the music player. (power Amp)
Its also better, IMHO then MIUI. Its got just as many if not more customization options and you don't have to look at an IPHONE want-to-be interface.
I Also found Gingerbeast to be great and then Ninja. Granted I only like AOSP roms for the most part.
I have never had GPS or Facebook issues on any rom I have used. Can't say about the camera apps as I am not into pictures. Don't use it at all.
Thanks tweaked.
So music playback is smooth/continues even when you lock/unlock or launch an app etc?
And can you tell me if the notification pulldown has the 2nd page for toggles?
Yea, I really did not like the iPhone wannabe launcher either, but I use an alternative launcher...

Sir, Download and flash Absolution. You will be amazed.
The pull down does not have the 2nd page for toggles. But you can add as many toggles as you like to the top.
I just tested it and it does not Glitch when I lock and unlock the phone. Even on Bluetooth.
All this tho and I bet the issue isn't the rom you are using. You prolly just need a full reset. I have found that sometimes I just have to Completely Wipe the phone and then install from scratch to get rid of little annoyances that pop up. I used Miui for about 2 weeks and never noticed what you are experiencing.

Well, MIUI is based on CM7; I'm having this exact problem with CM7 (latest build). As a matter of fact, I've always had this issue, and it's very annoying. I also have a problem with the sound cutting to mono when listening on a headset, and it's highly irritating, because the only way to fix it is to unplug and replug the headphones.
I wonder if a full clean wipe will fix this. I'm really thinking about giving it a shot, but the issue is that I'm going to be stuck with one of two options: either a Sense ROM or a CM7 ROM. I really love CM7, and have no other issues with it than this, so I'm wondering if it is indeed worth it to switch to a Sense based ROM.
I know I won't be going back to sense.
Think I'll just gu buy an MP3 player if it comes down to that.

I wish I could get in contact with this guy, basically a group of devs made an alpha while ago:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380051
According to them, they got GPS and brightness controls working, which this guy doesn't have working. If he could merge in those fixes, the only "vital" things that need fixing are audio and the camera (it looks like the camera might not get fixed for a while tho).

He has a Twitter account he occasionally posts updates to. The skinny of it is is that he's still being driven nuts by folks demanding he posts the current build (which he doesn't have), get stuff working, asking what the status is, etc. However, audio and camera still aren't working on either this project or CM9, and it is unlikely the devs will release another build until at least audio is working.

[Solved] Increase Mic Volume Level on CM-Based ROMs!

**UPDATE 29 MAY**
CM7-RC3 and CM7 nightly 20120527 both work with the March 2012 baseband and have much higher outgoing volume! I'm not sure the issue I opened on the tracker had any part in this, but thanks to all who helped anyways! Your support was very much appreciated.
As CM7-based ROMs sync to the newer source, I am sure that they too will be fixed.
****************
I'm converting this thread into a Call to Arms! If you are frustrated with the low microphone volume on anything based on CM, please visit the thread on CM's issue tracker to leave your comments and "star" the issue. This is NOT an attempt to flood their thread with meaningless garbage. My intent is to let the CyanogenMod team know that this issue is very real and annoying. I think I can speak for most of us in saying that CM is a blessing to the Android world and that we mean no disrespect. My sole intent is to not let this issue get swept under the rug as it has in the past.
If you have a minute, please leave comments both here AND on the issue tracker to ensure this gets taken care of in due time. Please be respectful with your comments, but share your experience with the team in order to let them know that you are affected. Thank you all for your support with this issue.

This project is hereby abandoned by me. I don't have the knowledge, and I don't have the time to learn. If someone else wants to pick this up, I left a fair amount of documentation and research here in the thread and I will be available through PM if you have any questions. The best thing you can do right now is check the official bug report on CM's Issue Tracker, star it and maybe leave a comment or two. Sorry to let you guys down, but I pushed as many buttons as I'm capable of pressing at this point in time. Hopefully RC can figure this one out.
Original post and edits follow:
*Update again* I hit a wall and am not savvy enough to know where else to look. I submitted this bug to the issue tracker on CM's google code site here: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=5190
Feel free to head over there and "star" it to get updates. I really hope they will help us out. Thanks for the support guys. Going to give them a little bit and see where it takes us.
*Update* Changed thread title for clarity. In the process of trying to unpack/edit/repack a kernel to increase the volume of the microphone. Lucky for me, it's mostly scripts.
Let me start this thread out by saying that I am not a developer, coder, github user, etc. Yes, I'm a noob when it comes to all things coding.
Alright. I searched and searched and searched some more for the commit on CyanogenMod's github. I found it.
https://github.com/CyanogenMod/andr...mmit/a042d3bba7dc7d563ef58dfd2b0811722d924f86
I *think* this is the patch that caused the low microphone volume since October of last year. It could be one of its parent patches, but it's related. This commit is also included in CM's ICS branch, which could be causing the low microphone volume issue that some of us have been experiencing for so long.
I went to edit that file so I could try to fuddle my way through a build (which I've never done before) but I couldn't find the actual file in the github. Was this file removed? Are input volumes adjusted somewhere else now? I'm spoiled by our developers and would love it if someone would try reverting this patch if it's possible. Anyone else feel the same?

Update! bassmadrigal from the CyanogenMod staff helped me locate the microphone volume values. They are in the /sys/devices/platform/star_wm8994/data file. Using an older CM7 (167) build, I was able to modify the volumes until the phone reboots. I tested the voice quality by calling my own voicemail since the volumes can be different while in a call.
Having done this, I flashed a newer CM9 build. The values at the specific registers in that file are indeed different on CM9, but I was unable to modify them. Any modifications to that file via root explorer or adb were ineffective. I even went so far as to delete the file completely, but it was regenerated within seconds. There is some kind of built-in security (either in Android 4.x itself or CM9) that prevents manipulation of this file, and others I'm sure.
Does anyone know of a way to manipulate this file?

From what I'm told, this file is actually part of the kernel. And I know nothing about any of this stuff. Is there anyone who knows how to modify and build their own kernel from source of whom I could ask some questions? I browsed around on Faux's github, but I seriously have no idea what I'm looking at.

Oh definitely, it just seemed to get shoved under the rug like it never happened a bunch of people in Baldwin guy cm7 thread stated it a bunch and it never got any attention if the OP can point someone in thebright direction after he does a bunch reading and reaching out to people then it can get resolved. It is honestly the only "bug" in cm7 that I hate. A bunch of people said they just switched ril's to fix it but I don't think so, I've done plenty of recording and what not with voicemails and I can easily tell between 2.3.3 to cm7 and found a build that was around 150ish

Almost all of the old CM7 builds are still hosted here: http://goo.im/cm/p999/nightly but for some reason the 170's are missing. Haha...
I agree with you on it being the only thing I hate about CM7/9.
Anyway, another update for you guys. I found a guide on how to unpack the kernel and ramdisk from boot.img so I can modify this file, then repack it. Downloading Ubuntu now. Going to install it in a Virtual Machine and see if I can do this. Might take me a bit though. I'm a busy guy
Well, I was able to unpack the kernel and split it into the kernel and ramdisk. The ramdisk contains the "sys" directory, but it's empty. I can't find the file that I need to modify. Maybe it's in the kernel part of the split.
I would just like to say thank you.
And I wish I could help!

Record your self on a stock based rom or leave a voice mail its very noticeable, speaker phone is almost pointless while on cm7/9 you set the phone down 2 feet from your face and they can't hear you practically it sounds like you're whispering.

You're absolutely right mt3g, speakerphone is horrible. And I'm typically kind of a "chin talker" who lets the phone drift down away from the mouth. If I pay attention to holding the phone up further in front of my mouth and speak firmly, I can usually get heard alright on the other side, but I'm used to phones in the past picking up a lot better, and sometimes I need to speak softly if my kids are napping, etc.
FYI, this is my test environment (to eliminate variables):
Always call voicemail to perform the tests, because the input volume can change from just using a voice recorder app to actually in a call.
I play the same part of the same song at the same volume with my phone in the same position every time.
Just nandroiding back and forth between stock/early CM7/late CM7/CM9, there is a major difference.

If I'm not mistaken, custom kernels designed for CM7/9 are based on the original CM7/9 kernels. Regardless, I have personally verified this issue exists with faux's and morfic's kernels.

RFC: Fix Voodoo Sound or USB-OTG?

I might be able to get back into dev mode as the SGS4G starts to fade into the sunset (yeah, mine turned two today) and there are a couple core things that are bugging me in the kernel and/or low-level code.
One is that when you get off a call, the Voodoo Sound features related to control of the analog and digital gain don't seem to work any more.
The other would be getting more storage available (for music, see the theme here?) through USB-OTG. I know most wont be interested in streaming audio to an off-board DAC, so let's assume this stops with USB mass storage (namely, clipping on another 64 GB chip in a micro-reader with a USB-OTG cable).
Preferences for where to start first, if at all? If not one of these things, what is bugging you with the current kernels and/or low-level services? (No, I can't fix the crappy GPS).
Welcome back.
Fixing the voodoo issue would be tops on my list. That being said though I don't use my phone with the sim card in very often any more. It's more of a music player. If you want anything tested feel free to shoot me a PM.
As far as the crappy GPS goes I don't know if you've seen this but it fixed GPS for me on all MTD ROMs that I've used since:

Others have had less then stellar results but I believe our current crop of kernels can handle it once that line is added. So not much to fix there really. IMO
Voodoo Sound all day bro.

Voted for Voodoo Sound, since it's the bug rather than the FReq. New features are all nice and shiny, but if you chrome plate a cockroach, it's still a cockroach. Bugs-begone first, then add the fancy electroplating.
my vote would be for USB-OTG cuz about 65% of my microSD's memory is music and I'd love to be able to transfer that to a USB drive and just use that

I bet you could talk to it serially with otg
Considering my SGS4G is already slated to control a commercial espresso maker, the LHC isn't far off the mark.

Looks like the real one is off line for the next two years for repairs.

At least they found the Higgs Boson first. lol
I see they got my email offer then. I guess I'll have to donate my beloved SGS4G to science and the betterment of humanity to complete this momentous upgrade.

Skyrocket As a Music/Media Player

HI all. A couple of months ago I moved from my skyrocket to an S4.
I am now looking to use my skyrocket solely as a media device - primarily an mp3 player. I plan on removing most of my apps and just downloading something like PowerAmp and then synching my mp3 files to the internal memory.
As such, I am interested in a ROM that is very stable and that may have been optimized for music playback capabilities (for example, I know certain ROMs build in different DSPs, music controls, whatever).
Based on this can anyone please recommend a couple of ROMs that would best suit this purpose for me to go check out? Thanks.
I'm not gonna recommend a specific rom, but I would suggest if using it solely for music to use something compatible with this mod. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1878945. It greatly improves audio. Anything pretty 4.3 should work but read the op.

Thanks. This is exactly the kind of guidance I am looking for.
I know certain ROMs have some audio mods built in...does anyone know of ROMs that have this, or a similar audio mod, already included?
Look through the dev section and pick out something you think you'd like. Audio mods are easy to install, just make sure you follow the directions. The only rom I can remember with a pre-installed audio mod was blinky's revenge, but that's kind of old now and the dev has moved on. Good luck!
I actually have thought about creating a ROM just for that. Remove all phone, messaging stuff and basically make it a media player. Maintain wifi and BT. Add some audio enhancements and so on. Not sure how much interest there would be in that though. I would use it seeing as I do not use my skyrocket as a phone any more.
If I were to give this a go who would all be interested in it??

That's all I used my old SGS 4G for after I got the Rocket. Basically just put it in airplane mode and I could play tunes for over 24 hours on a single charge. It just decided to turn into a paper weight a few weeks ago. I've been using the Rocket for my music needs since then. Seeing as how I am getting another phone soonish I'll keep the Rocket strictly for music. So I would use something like that for sure. Keeping bluetooth and wifi would be great since I can stream to my sound bar with BT. Hell my phone could become my personal home juke box.

I would try it out just for fun even though I am still using my Skyrocket. However I am due for another phone soon.
If I remember I'll try and spin a 'phoneless' build tonight and see if it works.
I've done something like this with an old HTC Evo a buddy had it works well but i don't know where in the source all of the phone bits are to remove so that it can be completely clean. i think this would be a good project given the age of the phone itself.

Go for it... I had started on this. I had a booting build with basically no apps and phone capability and the I ran into a systemui fc. Still trying to figure that out and then I stumbled across omnirom, which I have been working on since.

Yes for the skyrocket. It is proving to be more difficult than I thought. It is more AOSP which is not setup for our device at all.
Spending more time on this media player today though.
You can keep up on the progress here: https://bitbucket.org/toyes/manifest
Any suggestions and ideas would be welcome. (Which players, audio mods... etc.)
jetAudi basic has been my go to player for a few years now. It has ten band EQ, sound effects and a preamp already on board. It however doesn't play nicely with King Beatz so just a heads up on that. If your ripping most of the stuff out of system that should leave a lot of room for multiple players. Then people could just choose whichever one they like best and set it as default.

I'm thinking that. Either that or different Zips for different players/mods.. or figure out how to use the aroma installer..
