Stock . i was rooted until yesterday .

you changed any system files? fonts etc?

Update is rolling out based on imei. Only few have received it.
You can sideload using adb. No risk of lossing data.
If you are rooted, you need to re-root

Hi.. I am rooted with TWRP custom recovery. Flashing the update gives an error regarding the system file.
So how to go about it?

Download the 4.4 to 4.4.2 update then I think you just flash it in recovery.

Would I loose root? Also where would I find the 4.4 to 4.4.2 update?

You shouldn't lose root but i'd ask someone else about that, but here is the page with the download link http://www.androidbeat.com/2013/12/...-4-4-2-kitkat-update-nexus-4-nexus-5-nexus-7/

Doesn't work for me. Get an error while installing the Zip. But at the main time i use volume mode, dsp manager etc....and i saw that any modification would break the OTA so perhaps it's because of that it doesn't work

I managed to go from 4.4 to 4.4.2. I followed different stuff but overall what i did on my 4.4.2 custom kernel :
Copy http://android.clients.google.com/p...ed-hammerhead-KOT49H-from-KRT16M.b3d1f307.zip to sdcard
Flash the KRT16M stock image. Follow @abaaaabbbb63 guide forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
If you want to keep data intact flash only the boot.img, system.img
Once the last file is flashed, just go from fastboot to recovery mode then install the .zip http://android.clients.google.com/p...ed-hammerhead-KOT49H-from-KRT16M.b3d1f307.zip like you would install any zip from recovery (install zip from sdcard)
reboot
ps : I had lost root so if it's your case, just reflash recovery :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2511952
I had kept the files untouched in my C:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\platform-tools> so i just had to open cmd in that directoy (****+right click --> cmd)
Then :
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Now 4.4.2 with root and no loss of data

Problem updating to 4.4.2

Hello everyone! My nexus 5 is stock 4.4 rooted with chainfire, and stock recovery.
I received the notification to update to 4.4.2, and accepted, unfortunately it failed, and rebooted normally. I had frozen some system apps with titanium backup (i.e google play music) and think that might've been an issue. I also altered the files necessary to tether.
Wondering how I can try to flash this again? Where is the update stored once downloaded? Can I just flash it in my stock recovery? Thanks for the help in advance.
I have the same problem. I just uninstalled a few apps like play music. Phone is rooted with twrp as recovery.

I actually have stock recovery. I just located the update with root explorer in /cache. Can I just flash this update in fastboot on my phone? (Vol up+down + power?)

Freezing apps is fine, it's the tethering mod that is preventing the OTA from flashing.
You can download the factory image and update that way. Flash them one at a time so your data doesn't get wiped.

[Q] Android 4.4.3 on a rooted device

I own a rooted Nexus 5 with KitKat 4.4.2. Yesterday the N5 "saw" the 4.4.3 update, so I've downloaded it and then installed it, but while the phone was rebooting after the installation, it displayed the dead android logo with an error message. I've shut it down and reboot the phone but it is still running the 4.4.2 instead of the 4.4.3 and it doesn't receive the new update again. What can I do?
Download a rooted version of the 4.4.3 Stock ROM from here on XDA.

What's the error message? Did you previouslt root the phone on 4.4.2 by yourself or did you buy it which is already rooted?

I rooted it by myself on KitKat 4.4.2.
what system mods did you make? this includes kernels and any changes to ANY file in the /system directory.
Download Vomers rom and flash it. Its stock 4.4.3. That's what I did and its running smoothly.

[Q] in title most definitely means this should be in q&a and not general.
The reason it failed is because you weren't stock (kernel, recovery, all system apps, no xposed framework). You need all of those to flash ota.
Like posted above, download @vomer's 4.4.3 ROM and flash it. It's the same thing. I ran it for a week and its golden

I had the same problem and the only "mod" I did was the tethering mod where I added the tether_dun_required 0 change to the settings.db file
Would that be the reason why mine failed? I unlocked bootloader, rooted STOCK.

Yes
Would probably need to know the error message to further troubleshoot the issue.
If you want root after an OTA, you have to fastboot flash a custom recovery then flash the superSU zip to root, so as suggested you may aswell fastboot flash recovery then recovery flash the stock rooted rom already mentioned. Actually fewer steps doing that.

[Q] superSu help

Whenever superSu asks for permission to run a root app my screen becomes unresponsive. Timer runs out and i am not able to apply grant permission. Help. This didnt use to happen when i was earlier rooted with towelroot. Right now also i ised towelroot
Have you tried re-flashing the supersu zip?

Yes. Didnt work.
Btw by reflash the zip file you mean reinstall it from pkay store, right?
Pardon the ignorance. Just found out that flashing a zip file and installing apps from play store are 2 different things.
Well my bootloader is locked and neither do i have a custom recovery installed. So flashing doesnt seem to be an option right now.. If i am not missing anything.
Are you running 5.0? If so how the heck did you root with towelroot? AFAIK you can not root 5.0 that way. Maybe that is a problem.

No no. I am on kitkat only
Tried reinstalling it. This is what came up. I am on android 4.4.4 btw
You need to flash the supersu zip using fastboot:
teamandroid. com/2014/06/19/root-nexus-5-android-444-ktu84p-kitkat/2/ (you're going to have to fix that link because I have under 10 posts so the forum won't let me post..)
Additionally you need to have an unlocked bootloader

You say you were rooted ...why did you re-root? It looks like you are no longer rooted. Did you do an update or anything?

To get root again either flash the latest CF Auto Root in fastboot or flash the latest superSU.zip in recovery or flash a pre-rooted custom rom in a custom recovery.

[Q] update with root?

Just wondering if anyone is working on a flashable 5.0.1 update or knows how how to update stock 5.0 (rooted) without a data wipe.
I've unrooted and flashed the stock recovery, but it's saying the binary is wrong when i try to update?
U cant update using air push if ur rooted u can simply flash a 5.0.1 custom rom

Read any of the recent threads. You have to be 100% stock. Just flash the recovery, boot, and system from 5.0 in fastboot then do the ota

If you're flashing system, you may as well directly flash 5.0.1 system
