Hi,
From past three days, signal is not showing up on the phone. And it only shows a red triangle with a white plus sign on it.(Emergency Calls Only)
I didnt do any changes to the phone, it just randomly started three days ago.
I am on Indian version of unlocked Motorola atrix 2 MB865.
I am on jellybean 4.1.2 for past many months. So I dont suspect the ROM.
I have tried using some other sims also.(It is NOT the problem of the Sim)
I usually get full signal at my place.
I have searched internet thoroughly and read almost all the threads related to this topic, but it didnt help me much.
Things I have tried till now.-->
- Swapped sims with many other phones.
- Installed the "Network" app and many other similar apps which was suggested in some other threads.
- Switched Flight mode on and off.
- Factory reset the phone.
- Kept it off for hours and then checked again.
- Prayed that it will get fixed soon
Q) Did you try turning it off and on again?
Ans) Yes..yes.. Many many times. Sometimes, after reboot it shows signal for 2-5 minutes, but I CANT make/receive any calls/sms(The call just drops two seconds after dialling)
PS:- I think that when I received the last call, I was listening music on my headset and I had received the call with the headset.
Thank You very much.

Baseband version is showing as 2012-0712 09:44 Off Blf LUD_EDISON_R1E_PATCH_36_120712_0920 ch1090280_M570_PC_CARD_RAINB
I have now found that it is due to very very poor reception.... For some reason, this phone's signal reception has drastically reduced.
I can get signal only if I go out, still the signal strength is shown at maximum -75dB and frequently dropping to -100dB. I was able to make one call and it dropped as soon as i entered inside the house.
(The same sim on other phones have full range even inside house)
What is the suggested solution?
Thanks

Seems to be a hardware issue then. Is your phone within warranty, by chance?
Nop it is not in warranty.

If you can't afford to help, then what's the point of this post?
Increasing post count I guess.
Might be a loose connection after a drop ?
Your best bet would be to dissamble the phone and assemble again. In the meantime check the connectors and others if they're in their place. There're good disassembly videos for atrix 2 in youtube.

K s h i t i j s, who is your network provider? EDIT: Just saw that you're on MTNL.
I have been having a similar problem for a similar length of time with my Atrix 2 and I'm on stock ICS. I got my sim replaced by Vodafone but the problem persisted so I asked the guy who originally sold it to me to get it checked out (warranty is long gone).
He mentioned that another customer of his with the same phone also developed the same problem around November or December 2013. Both that guy and I are on Vodafone, Mumbai.
In testing, his phone worked perfectly with an Airtel sim and mine worked perfectly with a borrowed IDEA sim. Both our sims work perfectly in other phones. Both were then sent to the official service centre but they essentially threw their hands up.
The coincidental timing of the problem for two (maybe three) phones of the same model leads one to think there must something with the network broadcasting? Could someone with better knowledge of the subject (mine is approximately nil) comment?

Hey guys.
I have noticed large variations in the signal that I have. E.g., somewhere that I normally have 2 bars, from time to time it may display 5 bars or no bars at all, but I can still make a call.
The real problem occurs after long period on standby, after which it seems not to recognize my sim. It has happened 3 times in a 4 day period. The problem is solved if I restart the device or disable-enable the plane mode, but this is not a real solution, since meanwhile I've missed a few calls...
I have no weird apps installed, and I am experiencing the signal variation since day 1, without any apps installed.
Any ideas? Contact the retailer maybe? I bought it from expansys on April 11th, what is their DOA period?
Contact HTC maybe? Or get a new sim?
Your help is highly appreciated!
I suffer signal variations too, I can go from 5 bard to 2 bars and back all in the same location.. Ive never had 0 bars, or had a call drop. But its something that bothers me
What you should do is
Check with your provider for any faults in your area
Request a new sim
Contact your retailer
contact HTC
All in that order.
I also have this problem. I have tried a new simcard but still problem. I hope HTC will solve this, because it seems to be a software problem.

Thanks for the quick answer.
I do not mind the signal variation, since I can make calls even with 0 bars (!), of course I don't know if this affects the battery life...
My real problem is, not recognizing the sim... I also forgot to mention that the very first time I inserted my sim into the phone, it didn't recognized it either.
I 'll get a new sim from my provider, hoping it's not the phone's fault.
In the meantime, I 'll let the retailer know about the situation and ask about the DOA period, in case that doesn't work.

You mean, just the signal variation, or the sim not recognized after standby?
you should rly try to get new sim card, could be sim problem.
For signal variation, it probably drains battery life. If signal is weak, or it drops from 1 bar to 0, then back to 1 (had this situation at my work) - battery gets drained RLY fast.
But that was in case when I rly didnt have or had rly weak signal. Dont know with this, but I guess if phone trys to "recover" signal, it will consume much more battery

The SIM problem is a separate issue, which you should hopefully get fixed.
Now regarding the signal strength bars. I have used a lot of expensive RF test equipment. Most of it more expensive than your car. Or house.
None of them measured signal level in "bars", usually it was dBm (mW in 50Ohm). Unless you know what those bars correspond to in real power levels, then it's rather hard to say if the variation of a few bars is something to worry about.
Digital comms systems tend to go from "working great" to "no signal" within the span of 6dB. And that's a very small range when one looks at the variation of signal level in a typical urban environment, even if the phone is static (position-wise).
It's been some days now and I don't have any more sim issues, so all good.
Maybe it had sth to do with where the sim was touching the phone... (I tried cleaning the sim and reinserting it a couple of times)
But the signal variations continue... I reached HTC and they said to try GSM only mode, and also safe mode, but same behavior there. - now rechecking and unsure about results, gosh it seems complete random.
aza314, I understand what you 're saying, but what about this... the signal variations are so annoying, that rarely I might unlock my phone to get a temp "no service - emergency calls only" message (normally I have signal again in 1 minute or so), in the same spot I was making calls normally some minutes ago (or later).
Guys, I need your input here... if you have never experienced such a behavior on your phone, if it's not a known bug, I need to know, in order to report it DOA.
edit: on the other hand, maybe it's related to this issue, so hoping to get fixed in the first update...
Iv had the AT&T One X since the 4th and so far I love it! I haven't had any wifi issues or bootloops or anything, the only problem I'm having is the phone will randomly lose signal completely (0 bars, little x next to the signal) and wont get it back unless I put it into airplane mode and turn it back off, or reboot the phone. In the 6 days Iv had it it's lost signal 3 times, once on the road where I normally get at least 3-4 bars, and the other 2 happened at some point over night while I was asleep. Has anyone else been having this problem? Also do you think it's a software/radio problem that can be fixed in a update, or would it be hardware in which case I should take it to the store and exchange for a new one.
I've had this problem myself. Had the phone for 19 days now and I think it's happened to me 3 or 4 times.
I can guarantee it's fixable with a software update, even if the problem is hardware-related. At the very least, the software could detect the lack of signal and automatically cycle in and out of airplane mode to fix the problem without user interaction. But I'm sure whatever fix we get will be much more reliable than that.
WHEN we get the fix is another question...
Thanks for the reply. I figured it might be a software issue since you can cycle airplane mode and get it back and I don't really want to take it down to the AT&T store for an exchange in fear I wined up not able to set up gvoice or start getting wifi issues and the like lol. so far the signal drops are far and few in between making it an annoying issue rather than a critical one, and I read we've got root now so even if HTC/AT&T twiddle their thumbs and pretend nothings wrong I'm sure the community can save the day lol
I would swap it out Azure. My first HOX did exactly this, and I saw it reported elsewhere on a number of other devices. To me that says it's most likely a bad radio flash on some handsets. I suppose you could try and flash the RUU that was posted, as it most likely includes the radio as well.
I got tired of all my calls going directly to VM without ringing. And not being able to send out texts. My replacement works much better (or rather, how it should've from the beginning).

Was this problem intermittent?
My phone has been doing this randomly, except it never went to voicemails, just hung up after like 30 seconds.
Wondering if I should switch it out also.
Had this problem for a day. Took my phone to the at&t store and they changed out the sim card and I haven't had a problem since.

I never thought about the sim card being a possible problem...might run up to the store when I get the chance and swap my sim out and see if that fixes it, if not I'll just swap the device out and hope all's well
The CSR actually swapped a new micro sim first, since the one provided via online sales was an older one (most likely from the iphone 4/4s batch). It didn't seem to fix the problem though.
And yeah, the problem was very intermittent. One second it would be working fine, and the next it would show the "x". Sometimes the bars would come back immediately, other times it wouldn't until I rebooted or cycled airplane mode. Luckily it happened while I was at the store; it's much easier to convince a sales rep to swap a phone when they can witness the issue(s).
Yeah it's only happened to me twice since I got it on the 4th... it'll be very hard for me to convince them that there's an issue haha... maybe I'll head down there if it happens at a time when I'm not in class or something. I'm sure if I mention returning it/their policy I'll get a swap.

next time my phone drops signal I'll take it into the store and see about a sim swap in hopes that'll fix the issue if not then I'll reluctantly swap the unit out (I've grown rather attached to this one xD)
**EDIT**
strange...woke up today and my phone completely lost signal again, normally there's a few days between each event but this is the first time it's happened twice in a row =\
So it happened again, I'm going to go get it switched... but it says on the Mobile network section of settings, "Disconnected because service is unavailable."
There is clearly almost full signal strength, and I have never been without service where I live.
I was expereincing constant network drops all of yesterday due to an outage. However, it's back to normal for me today. So it may be possible there's an outage near you as well.
I think it is more AT&T than your phone. I was in down town buffalo at a swim meet with 5 bars of hspa+ on my blackberry bold that has a great radio. I had data but it was slow dial up slow. There were maybe 100-200 people at the meet and it was at a community college. The only other time I had this was when I was in a car that was driving by the buffalo bills stadium. Voice worked but I had no data. I guess too many people using their cell phones.
Definitely not AT&T, my SE Xperia x10 worked perfectly fine, never had any trouble with signals.
I also encounter the intermittent signal drops on my 4 days old AT&T one x.
It seems to me that the One x doesn't hold signal as good as the iphone, my 4 and 4s usually get around 2 bars in some really remote locations of the building I work. But the One X just drops signal completely. I'll see if I can do a sim swap like some others suggested.
I'm starting to think it could be an issue with lte phones because the same thing was happening to me on my galaxy note with 2 different sim cards and 2 different devices and now it's happening on my hox
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
it has happened to me 3 times in 5 days. All 3 times I was either:
1. in a poor reception area and it came back on its own, i did not have to use airplane mode.
2. was using BT streaming in car and using car charger, once car charger was unplugged, signal came back.
One X has issues
Definitively problems with the phone.
I have three.
They just drop signal completely. One will work, the other will not. Only way the signal will come back is if you turn the phone on and off again. I love everything about this phone....except it isn't a very good phone.
Also, typically when I turn the phone back on, that is when I get my text messages. Nice.
Yeah I figured out it happens when I lose signal (a couple buildings on my schools campus don't get reception), and then the signal won't come back until I reboot or airplane mode.. this is after a sim swap.
Oh and do I need the box my phone came in to swap it?

I have had this issue as well being on the Rogers (Canada) network. I started a thread as well and my theory is there may be a hardware issue reading the SIM cards.
Every now and then I get a "preparing SIM" message pop up on my screen. Also, I lost signal once and in frustration I slapped the phone into my palm VOILA! signal came back full.
This is the second One-X I've gotten from Rogers so there may be a design flaw somewhere. The problem is this behavior only pops up intermittently and cannot be recreated at will. This makes troubleshooting very difficult and practically unprovable in the eyes of providers.
Hopefully there are more reports of this problem and the carriers push back on HTC to resolve the problem.
Hi all,
I have recently purchased a Tinji GT-i9300 4.7" S3 clone phone with Android 4.1.1 and Kernel 3.0.13
It all works fine apart from the signal/service freezes all the time. The signal will freeze with-say showing 4 bars even though I'm now in a no-signal area, I could even put it in a lead box and the signal indicator would still be stuck on 4 bars. When it freezes, I loose all service, even if I'm in a strong signal area. It might be something to do with when it's been sleeping for a while. I can get the service back by selecting Airplane mode and then unselecting it.
I've tried different SIMs from different providers, but they all act the same.
I've tried the obvious, like reset to factory. And I've google'd for ages, trying to find an answer.
Does anyone have any ideas or a later firmware that I can try? or do I send the phone back to China?
Thanks for looking.
Just some extra information
Just some extra information:
I have stopped the phone from going to sleep and have adjusted the CPU (I had to root the phone) to not drop down low, and it's not lost the service for hours. I will experiment more to find out if it's the sleeping or the CPU speed dropping that is causing this problem.
I believe this is quite a common issue on many android phones.
I FIXED THIS PROMBLEM!!!!!
This probably isn't going to be the answer for most of you but it worked for me. I tried all of the suggested fixes first and had tried 3 different SIMs and my phone still had the radio service freeze.
Yesterday I went into the EE (Orange) shop and got a brand-new SIM and now my phone works perfect and even the signal strength is a lot better.
Try getting a new SIM, it MIGHT FIX your problems. GL
hey!
I have a problem with my One Mini. I have constant signal dropouts. Phone calls stop after a second, also losing data-connection all the time and always seeing the message "Preparing SIM-card".
It feels like my phone having problems with some mobile-cells. Usually I have to try to call someone 3-4 times, and after 3-4 attempts I can talk normally without getting interrupted after 1-2sec - like my phone found the correct cell or something like this.
I tried
- my second (O2) sim-card
- put some tape on top of the sim-card (solved this problem for people with different phones)
- put some signal-tweaks in my build.prop
- changed network mode (WCDMA/GSM/LTE...)
but nothing helped.
I am on O2-Germany for many years and never had those problems, my One S was working fine (before it got bricked )
Had the same problem last month in France...
anyone else having this problem? could this be kernel-related? I'm using JMZ`s kernel. But I guess this is more a radio-problem, or?

I haven't had this issues, in fact, I went camping last weekend and most of the time I was able to get 1 bar when everyone else didn't have service at all. I'm using the AT&T variant on AT&T with the WWE DeOdexed Stock ROM and Jmz's Kernel 09-04-13. I attached a picture of my kernel, baseband, build, ect. I'd suggest making a backup and restoring your phone to stock to see if it's a software issue.
Hello,
I'm asking for some help to diagnose my call problems on UMTS.
First of all, three things happened recently, and let's assume that they happened roughly at the same time:
I dropped my Nexus 5 on concrete shattering the screen completely;
Google released Lollipop which some people believe has problems with 3G and LTE;
I'm using a rather old SIM card manually cut to fit micro-SIM dimensions.
About two days after receiving my Nexus 5 back from guys servicing it (new LCD screen) I had a telephone conversation that was disconnecting once every minute or two. There was no problem recalling though. The same day later I noticed that dialer app says "Emergency calls only" which was pretty weird. I was on Cyanogenmod 11, some recent nightly back then.
My first guess - revert to earlier nightly via TWRP. It didn't help - I was still on emergency calls only and nobody was able to call me. However, I could browse Internet without any problems on 3G.
Second guess - clean flash stock 5.0.1. It didn't help too, however calling went back on for some time (several minutes) before breaking back to "Emergency calls only".
Third guess - buy a starter SIM and check if it works. It did at first but stopped after an hour or so.
Fourth guess - bring the phone back to guys servicing the LCD to check antennas. I've left it for two days. It was opened and antennas checked. Everything was fine, not even a bent flex.
For all this time when on 3G/LTE data transmission worked flawlessly. I could download Google Maps, browse the Internet, whatever. It's just the very basic phone function that acts weird - as if I wasn't registered to a network. Everything seems to work fine on 2G, except for very rare disconnects (once per two, or three days).
So, considering it's pretty weird I'm seeking for help - could it be possible that after hitting concrete something broke down on the motherboard that results in such weird behavior? Or is, perhaps, my retro-SIM dying? Any ideas? Maybe flashing a well-tested radio ROM? Diagnostic apps?
