I'm looking for CWM Recovery for a Straight Talk SG3 SCH-S968C. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I too am looking for this. As far as I've read, it's the Verizon variant, NOT Sprint. I tried to flash the Sprint recovery on it, and it ****ed up my system, causing reboots every few minutes. I got it replaced, but haven't had the balls to try to flash a Verizon recovery.

Well, I took the plunge, and, using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mmmeff.ez&hl=en , installed a CWM Recovery on my Straight Talk S3. I'm currently running a full backup of my clean system, and I'll let you know how well it works once it boots up.
Good news! Everything works with the recovery, flashed CarbonROM, and it's perfect. This is the Verizon variant, so just install a Verizon recovery, and a Verizon Galaxy S3 ROM, and everything should work! Some ROMS may bug you about a SIM card, but you don't use one, so just dismiss the warning, and all should be well!
Have you had any problems? Does everything work?

I've flashed a few roms, Carbon, Cyanogen, it all works. Technically, it IS on Verizon, so the other guy is half right. I'm currently running Cyanogenmod 10.2, which is Android 4.3, and it all works. The camera, mobile data, wifi, EVERYTHING. I have total confidence that it will run any Verizon made rom.
Hi Guys,
I'm in need of someone to dump a file for me from their SCH-S968S. This file will be used to add support for JTAG repair on your model. In exchange, I will make a donation to you for your efforts of $20. Please let me know if you are interested by shooting me a PM. Here is a video of the process we will be adding for your model!

Unfortunately, I'm no longer stock, however, after I installed a Verizon recovery, I immediately ran a full backup from it. Would that have the file you need in it?

As long as you have not changed your bootloaders then you will still be a good candidate for the test.

Did you just flash the Verizon ROM, no other variant? If so, that's awesome, and I'll try it. I was able to put CWM on my ST phone using the Verizon version, so that's a positive. Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated. I went to ST from a GNex on Verizon, so I miss my fresh updating of Android!

Absolutely. I flashed a few ROMs, Carbon, and a few Cyanogenmod versions, settled with Cyanogenmod 10.2. I assume any Verison variant ROM would work, but don't hold me on that! I mostly just stick with CM and CM based ROMs, since I like CM.

Cool. I was planning on going with CM as well, so that's relieving. I guess what's the worst that can happen, I made a CWM backup, so I'll be safe with that. Thanks for the tips!
Just to follow up, running CM 11 (4.4.2), and it's working flawlessly. Data, voice, all that fun stuff. Big thanks again for being brave before me and letting me know CM works! Hopefully this thread will help someone else out like it did for me.
Hmm, one issue I've run into. Are your mms messages going through? I can't get mine working. I think it's an apn issue, but I for the life of me can't figure it out.
Are you sure you flashed the correct ROM? It has to be Verizon. But then again, it could just be a bug. Does CM 11 even have a stable build out?

Just installed 10.2, and it works fine. One thing I noticed with CM11, the APN settings were greyed out on CM11, but not CM 10.2, so I couldn't edit those to get it working. Guess I'll wait until something other than a nightly is out for the GS3. Thanks again!

Hey guys-
I use Good for Enterprise on my gs3, currently running stock ICS. I want to flash the new stock rooted JB leak (11/15 kernel) but since Good is not officially supported on JB with this device, my supervisor is telling me not to do it since it could cause the app to not work right. I am rooted with an unlocked bootloader just itching to flash this...
Getting new PINs for the app are not an issue, since I am one of the Good admins in my company.
Anyone know if it is ok for me to do this? I think he is being ridiculous about this, considering we know it has gs3 support and JB support. Sprint has has JB for weeks already!
Doesn't this app check for root? The company I work for uses Good and a buddy had a S3 rooted (Sprint) and the admins said he couldn't use it because he was rooted. If you put on a stock not rooted image then I would think it would work unless JB gives it problems.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Try it. Make sure you do a nandroid backup first. If you run into a problem you can just revert back to what you were using before you flashed and pick up like you never wiped all data apps and info are restored.

I have been rooted for a few months now, and have not come across an issue... I have read that it checks for root also, but maybe the way my company configured it, it doesn't matter?
I am the guy in my office that configures the PINs and i can see device status for everything, and mine seems normal.
Go ahead and give it a try if your comfortable doing it like the above post has, make a nandroid and go at it!

Your employer can choose whether to allow Good on a rooted device. Mine allows it, and Good works fine on my GS3 with the first JB release.. Except for the "secure browser".. Apparently that does not support JB yet.
I haven't been prompted to update to VRBMF1 yet and haven't manually updated. I am still on VRBMB1. Ready to try Beans' one click root method but not sure whether to take the update first or not. Anyone have any suggestions?
Pretty sure it'll work, it doesn't really matter if you're going to end up flashing a custom rom; but it's all preference maybe if you want the new modems just take the update.

Can you provide info if the one click method works for you. I am on VRBMF1. Never rooted before.
Just root. The newest update had signal and battery issues, along with many other issues. Verizon even pulled the OTA. Flashing a newer ROM will give you the newer features anyways, and it will be better.

It was incredibly easy. Only thing that tripped me up at first was that I didn't have the Samsung drivers installed on my PC. Since the thread didn't mention installing them I was assuming they weren't needed. You can get them here. Once I installed them and went through the steps in the thread, I was rooted and unlocked in a few seconds.
I highly recommend LiquidSmooth v2.7 if you'd like to get rid of TouchWiz.

What method do you use to root? I'm on the VRBMF1 build already, on Verizon. I have the S3 toolkit from mskip, but it says it can't do anything until I get the bootloader unlocked. Now I can't find any method to unlock the bootloader for this build. I feel I'm just missing something stupid, but I can't find it :crying:

Or was the Update disabled for the S3?
Also i am on AT&T at the moment and i cannot go with that also, i dont know why
Any Help? thanks.

Why you posting in the Verizon forums if your on AT&T. What update are you looking for? If it's the one I think it is you need to install CWM or TWRP to flash it and I'll have to check my sources for it.

Hi,
I just got my 4.3 update on the VZW SCH-I535 phone! Then I decided to try CM10.2 and didn't realize that my phone was re-locked because of the OTA update! Now my phone is stuck with the message "System software not authorized ..." To move past this issue, I have tried (and failed) the following:
- Tried to flash stock rom using ODIN (withSamsung-Updates.com-SCH-I535_VZW_1_20120705143513_fti2qg2lmf-stock-rom-4.0.3). It goes all the way through and I get a PASS! But after the phone reboots I get the "System error ... " again
- Tried to flash stock rom using ODIN with stock.vzw_root66.tar file and got the same result as above.
- I have also tried installing with Nand Erase All and Re-Partition checked, with PDA selected using the first rom, but I still get the same error
- I have read and tried some of the thread on this site with no luck either.
Any clue how I can get past this issue? Thanks for all your help in advance.

Yup, I took the OTA. Didn't realize that it would un-root. I have tried various things at this point to get it back, but nothing has worked so far. Now when I try to use ODIN to do a CF-Auto-root, i see the "Secure Check Fail: recovery", at the Downloading screen. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
To my knowlage I am the only one hosting the tar file you need. Samsung updates doesn't have it because the file hasn't been officially released other than ota. If this dosnt work for you try flashing the pit file with the tar. It is one of the last replys in this thread. Turns out, after working with the ATT folks for a while, that the IMEI number that my phone has comes up incorrectly in their database. It shows up as a Samsung Tab. Checked with Samsung and my IMEI number is correct, so ATT will have to fix it on their end to get my phone to work correctly. I don't know why they make it so hard to migrate phones across service providers.

You van root 4.3 after ota or that link, but if I was you I would try to use the ota first. If it works you will keep all installed apps and settings (but it might be buggy). If you follow that link you will loose current setup, apps and it will format internal sd (but it will be clean and hopefully bug free ). Make sure you are home with access to a pc before you try ota. If you changed to much of the workings of your phone the ota may not work or could even brick you. In that case you will need to use that link.

Honestly I'm glad I took the ota on accident. The past few weeks my phone has worked without a hitch. Some people just do not need custom ROMs and I think I am one of them. I'm pretty sure everyone who complains about how 4.3 is buggy and a battery hog just needs to use Odin to get a clean fresh start. I am disappointed that I can't install cyanogen when I turn this into my mp3 player after I get a new phone but its not like tw is bad. It just has a few annoying things that I can change with root access.
Off topic
I dnt hate tw ..I think is a good Rom in general .all that bloatware what got me to root and then lead to custom roms .like mention not everyone needs cuztom things.I do agree that a clean install of TW runs great .but I like options .and to each there own

From what I've been reading it seems to be that this is pretty legit, I tried it myself. Although if your on 4.3 ML1 or 4.4.2 NE1 your locked down
If you power off the device, then power it back on, you should see the words "Samsung" first. If they stay on the screen for more than 2 seconds, then it's locked down. If it flashes by almost instantly, then you're unlocked

I not positive about it being locked down with the sch-968c) because that's a verizon boot loader issue and this is a straight talk phone. I've been researching as well and from what I've learned, it can be rooted very quickly using cydia impactor and then flashing cwm recovery for roms and such. The apn settings may need some tweaking. I'm planning to do this to my friends phone this weekend and putting liquid smooth rom on it.

As far as I know any d2lte ROM will work. So far I've tried CM, PA and Pac-Man. All installed fine but they all suffer from the no APN issue which can be bypassed by using 8sms from the play store and changing the APN settings by adding Http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms. Handcent should also work.

From what I've been reading it seems to be that this is pretty legit, I tried it myself. Although if your on 4.3 ML1 or 4.4.2 NE1 your locked down

I suggest using towelroot. Its much faster and does not require a pc to root your phone.
Yes towel root works great actually the best out of the non pc methods for this device (out of my experience anyway) the phone runs on 4.1.2 and I have no access to a pc so I'm guessing that there's not a very safe or efficient way to install custom roms...
