[Q] NEXUS 5 Battery - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hei Guys Im planning to buy nexus 5 soon, i had gone through lots of reviews and comparisons for last two weeks to make this decision, now only thing i would like to know is about the non removable Li-Po battery inside nexus. Nowadays these batteries are common in most of the high end smart phones because of its advantage over Li-Ion battery but when i did a small research about Li-po type of battery i came to know that it could turn itself into a tiny bomb in pocket and turn everything around into a fire ball. Even though all types pre cautions has been made in phone to prevent this from happening I still have a bad feeling about these batterier inside my head. Does anyone has any idea about safety of these batteries ?

Replacement Phone Housing

I wonder if anyone knows where to buy a replacement phone housing for the Desire HD. I have dropped my Desire HD by accident and now the shell is badly dented and scratched. Brought the phone back to HTC and they said it would cost $150 just to replace it as the warranty does not cover user faults.
Check the box your phone came in.
If it says 'HTC Desire HD' on the box, you can get a free replacement at any phone shop that has one in stock until midnight tonight 13th October.
How exactly did you manage to scratch a phone which hasn't been released yet?

God....you lot are not being helpful now are you?
to the op, I believe your only chance is to wait a couple of weeks and I am sure ebay will soon be filled with replacement covers and housings.
Until then your best option is to buy a case to cover it up.

Firstly, good effort for resurrecting a pretty dead thread.
Secondly, realise that the guy is claiming he had a DHD before anyone else had one.
Thirdly, he claims the battery cannot be replaced - only on the DHD it can be (and if you take the cover off, it literally falls out!)
So while we would like to help the guy, he's not exactly provided believable evidence.

Why would anyone lie about something like that?
It is more likely the indentation is so bad the battery simply wont come out. Also I believe there are a select few who get to test devices long before they hit the shelves, I dont think he/she is one however I do believe it may be a test device.
I am also interested to know this. Nothing on ebay yet. Anyone know a retailer likely to sell housings? Unless anyone wants to swap a black for a brown?
Not sure why everyone here so adamant the op is lying... it's not like it's a big deal.
Mobile phones are often finished months in advance of a public release for testing, PR purposes, sales purposes (you don't think a mobile network gets to see and play with a device before deciding to stock it?) etc etc
I had the very first colour mobile about almost a year before it was available to the public and even months before anybody knew it existed. Why? I was working on developing a marketing campaign for it. It was one of only two in existence and it was buggy as hell....
Also he may not of realised that the battery compartment is separate from the sim card and not noticed it...
Btw - I want to know about a new housing too... this phone is so smooth it gives the expression dropping calls a whole new meaning....

Not to let this drag on or anything - of course there are versions and prototypes and ready for market versions of the phone, but would they be handing out a model of this hotly anticipated phone to someone who doesn't realise there's a battery compartment (which is a different colour to the rest of the casing, no less)? I think not.
Housings will probably take a while to filter down, the more obvious 'immediate' accessories like micro USB cables and docks are being churned out at 1000 a minute at the moment.
Well People , i got my Stock from Vodafone Australia not a joke either .

[Q] Battery

Not sure if this has been asked yet? What happens when the battery dies on these? Does it become a paper weight? I would think that it will still work if plugged in.
good question..

ifixit.com posted a manual here that includes battery replacement. Difficulty rating is Difficult.:
EDIT: I'm a new user so I can't post external links. Go to ifixit.com and search touchpad. alternatively, the link is /Device/HP_TouchPad for their URL.
Searching TouchPad gives you all the other device modding guides.

The back snaps off. You have about 3 screws holding the battery plus a plug in. It did not look to hard to replace.

you sure about that? I Read through ifixit and it looks like a complete pain in the ass. You have to take apart everything to get to the battery plug.

all tablets have non-user replaceable batteries anymore..
looking at the battery replacement guide for ipads they look about the same difficulty wise..
honestly i think the hardest part of it would be finding a replacement..

Dead pixels spreading

It seems as though I have a growing number of dead pixels localized to the bottom/middle center of the screen. At first, there was randomly 10 or so that went out today for whatever reason, in a straight line. Now there is at least 5 more, and it seems to be starting to branch out. This has originally appeared and grew in the past 24 hours.
I'm not sure how this happened suddenly, and why it happened so fast. Also, not really sure why it's growing, as I'm not doing anything different than before the dead pixels.
Is there anything I can do? I am past warranty. I can provide pictures if needed, but I am positive that they are dead pixels.

Maybe you're doing something that kills the pixels.
For example, are you undergoing a dry or wet?

Like, as in seasons? No, it's pretty temperate and average here, with normal precipitation, so I doubt it's humidity. Also, I have a otter box around it, and a screen protector, so even if something were to be spilled (I'm very safe with my phone, though), it wouldn't get in.
A few more pixels died today, so now it looks like a 2x10 pixel block with a small branch or two.

I do apologize for all of my stupid questions. This is my first Android phone, and I am not used to XDA's structure compared to other message boards I have been a contributor of. So I apologize that I am not carrying my own weight yet, but I hope to get more used to this place and Android development so I can help others.
This is going to sound more stupid, but the dead pixels disappeared. I consulted other people who confirmed that they were dead pixels, but I guess the issue resolved itself? A magnifying glass could have confirmed the dead pixels, but I'm not sure why this was just a temporary issue. Just adding this for reference, in case somebody else gets scared, to wait a week or two, and the issue might resolve itself.
Thanks for the help.
If you're referring to the mobile app signature in the bold text under my comment, that was in no way intended to be taken personally or seriously, but more for a joke geared for someone else (a moderator) who's not even in these forums. So, don't sweat the small stuff around here, and please don't feel I was trying to be insulting. My apologies to you if you found it as such.
I'm glad you seem to have things worked out, and hopefully this issue with the pixels won't happen again. I can imagine the frustration, so it's a good thing that this just cleared up all on its own - literally- and there wasn't a need to worry over having to replace hardware elements...

[Q] 2500mAh slim battery

Hi folks!
I have ordered and tried that replacement battery (look in google, from sunsky. can not yet post urls).
Though I had read somewhere that its actual capacity may vary from 2000 up to 2500mAh, I wanted give it a try because it is not so expensive, with a hope that it helps a bit.
Anyone else have tried it already?
Unfortunately I can tell, that I feel no difference to our standard 1800mAh. But I may be wrong.
For that reason I would like use a battery life testing tool and as a reference point, what tool would you suggest me to use to check the battery life from both?
Thanks
I've tried that battery (http://www.sunsky-online.com/view/3...r+Samsung+T699+++Galaxy+S+Relay+4G+++i415.htm)
Unfortunately I found it was sh!ter then the stock battery we have.
Also that sunsky battery lacks NFC. It's cheap for a reason, bad quality in my experience.
Check Nards tweak to the stock 2100mah Samsung S3 battery.
I've performed that trick to 4 of those batteries, and can safely say they perform wonders.

There is a Gold S3 battery available....
Remember the one that went over so well for the 4G Slide?
hehe, considering getting one of those. Only problem is, if I get it and mod it I can't return it if it doesn't come out right
Hello dillalade
yes it is that one from your link which I tried also. I had been indeed influenced by the thread from Nards tweak when gtmaster303 mentioned that battery.
Thats why I wanted give a try to this one first before going further to the tweak.
Also I wanted post this to Accessories first, but because this seems like a question so I came here, and after collecting details I could report there my results as well. (The video on the registration makes you a bit down and stressed, so trying to be careful.)
Can anyone suggest me an app to test the capacity in order to compare them?

I've been looking into the gold battery and you can't always assume they're all the same. Get it from the same seller that's been verified to supply good batteries.
Either way it's still a win for us as the battery has a much higher capacity already. We should see a great improvement in battery no matter which S3 battery we buy

I suspect 'unable to return' won't be your only problem.......
From past readings, I read the Gold S3 battery was slightly thicker than the stock S3 battery.
If my interpretation is correct, then that gold battery (being thicker than stock) would be very hard to accommodate in our Relay battery slot.
I say this from my experience in already utilising the stock S3 battery in our Relay. In that the stock S3 battery is 'already' thicker than our stock Relay battery, such that the stock S3 battery is already a very tight fit (thickness wise.) So much so that closing the back housing door on our Relay is already as snug as I'd like.
Hence ifffff that Gold S3 battery is indeed thicker then the stock S3 battery, than you may have a hard time trying to close the battery cover on our phone with the Gold battery.
In addition to the tighhhht squeeze issue.... similarly to the previously discussed Sunsky battery above - neither can cater for NFC.
All that I can say from weeks of experience with the stock S3 batteries is that I'm able to achieve ~20-30 hours uptime with roughly 2-3hours talk time and 3-4hours screen on time.
I cannot complain thus far. I'd say, It's worth the extra pennies for that OEM Samsung S3 battery with NFC for that extra juice.

alright, we can forget this 2500mAh battery..
I was using it now for not even one week, check the attached pics how it starts behaving on charging now.
It stops charging with 94%, both via pc usb or direct charger.
as an information for others i agree to move this thread to accessories, as i stop experimenting with this battery now.

Yes, that's another thing I failed to mention. I too noticed that Sunsky battery failed to charge to 100%.
I guess we can safely conclude these batteries are cheap as nutts for a reason - they are poor quality. Ridiculous how they get away with stating these bogus MaH capacities.
Go for S3 battery, you will be pleasantly surprised.
I have 4 of them, all of which are rock solid (Samsung OEM products.)

Even if capacity is higher i doubt about quality which end up with similar efficient.
I believe Samsung hold high quality of their products.

Unfortunately it is too thick, 5mm while ours are 4mm.
I can not close the back cover with it, so I can not use it. .. disappointed and sad
Is the original s3 battery then 4.5mm when Nard says "a bit thicker"?
I find that a little hard to believe... how can 1mm make that big of a difference? (pun intended)
is the back cover really that flush that there's no extra room? Not even a slight amount?

[Completed] Any battery interchange guide? Kingsing S2

Just curious if anyone knows about a battery interchange guide. Something I could enter dimensions and contact positions and then get a list of batteries that might fit in that space.
Specifically, I have a Chinese KIngSing S2, and, why yes, the battery is dead. The company appears to be as well, or at least they are no longer making replacement batteries for said. Not a big deal, it was a cheap phone, nothing to scream about, and I've already moved on. But, it's still pretty decent and I could give it to my kid... if I could get a battery for it that works.
So... before I break out the soldering iron, I thought I'd ask.
Any suggestions?
