Google launcher voice activation stopped working - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok I have been searching but it seems like either my keywords are wrong or just my phone. Anyway it seems like once I unlocked my bootloader, I could no longer use "ok google" on the Google launcher anymore. And I noticed that the mic image changed from the original image to the one with hollow center mic image once I unlocked. I don't know if anyone experienced this? Please share, and if yes, how to get this function back? It's not an important function of course but It's fun to use..

Voice Dialer

On the My Touch 4G I have both the Google Search and the Voice Dialer. Is there no Voice Dialer for the Sensation?? I have been looking in the apps folder and the widgets with no luck. I used that app very often.
Thanks

Voice Search does much more than just search. Tell it to call someone from your address book and it will. "Call John on mobile" will do just that
Thanks, The My Touch 4G and the Nexus One has both the Google search and the Voice dialer. They are two separate apps. I used the voiice dialer all the time and found it much more accurate then the search app.
does that thing with call john conner work on german phones ??
i tried that in some combination of words but it didnt work ....
he wants to search the internet when i say " call "person" "

Hmm I notice that in the description of Voice Search on the Android Market it says that voice actions only work in US English right now. I'm assuming that's referring to the default language you have your phone set to, but I'm not certain about that.

Thanks... people dont know how to search... ?
Ok please correct me if I'm wrong..but from everything I have tried and read...it currently is not possible to push three button on my blue tooth and say call so and so.. right? I think we have to want till root so we can put the voice dialer in the system folder ? I have installed the dialer and several of the 3rd party apps.. but so far the best I can do is listen to music and receive call...this is a blue tooth on my helmet..so pushing a button on the phone is out of the question...

I am having the exact same issue!
Anyone actually got it working? If so, how?
Many thanks!
have you installed a 3rd party keyboard?
i'm using swift key and all is well, but i thought i read somewhere that keyboards may cause an issue with the voice recognition thing
edit: i've been testing and it's working fine here
I can get to it to work on nexus 7 but not the 5

Sswipe left to the Google Now page and scroll down to the settings. Press Voice > Language and then English... > English (US). Then it will work.

You need to switch the language of Google Now to US English in the settings. Currently doesn't work in any other language unfortunately (even other forms of English!). Hope for update to fix this soon.
I don't see why Google couldn't do at least the other forms of English too. I mean, much less work than a completely different language. They already have voice recognition for all English sublangugaes, makes no sense to me why they couldn't enable it for UK English when the device can recognise the words 'OK Google' in my British accent just fine.
There have been a couple of times where it opens after saying Google now, but then hangs while trying to recognise what I've said and it sucks the battery (shows a lot of use under google services and google search), I have to restart the phone before it then works again.
Thanks guys much appreciated

it's somewhat per app... if the text block has the mic icon you don't need one on the keyboard so it doesn't show on the keyboard in some apps, especially if the app has a search function. and you can always use the hot words if you have it set to a compatible language...

well for example, it wont show up in hangouts, which is the only time i used this function (to text)
Yeah, this is important, I use it quite a bit to text. Swiftkey has it as a long press but I like the standard keyboard better so I'd prefer to use that.
You also need to enable voice typing, in addition to the mic.

Things that make me go "derp", thank you!
Also, I'm not sure if this is a requirement, but I did not see changes in my keyboard after changing those settings until after I performed a reboot. YMMV.

[APP][Launcer] Google Experience Launcher with Ok, Google

So in the latest update, you will get "ok google" while in the google search app.
With this launcher, it gets even better, you install it, and you can use "ok google" right from the home screen.
To make it work, just install the latest google search from play store, then download and install this apk:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/3ina0fd8fwki5fo/GoogleHome.apk
awesome, thanks!
Thanks for this! Came from the GNex and missed this launcher from the Kit Kat ROMs. Loved being able to voice activate Google Now from the home screen and swiping to access Google Now. Only thing that doesn't work it with this launcher is Knock Knock to turn the screen off (Knock On works). I created a workaround with Tasker where if I shake the phone left or right, it turns off the screen. Almost like having Kit Kat
very good, thank you
There are some apps that will give you the knock off feel if you want it.

I found a pretty good workaround for that. If you have G2 exposed installed (requires exposed framework, needs root) you can map the 'long press' for any button to lock screen. Just holding whichever button is easiest to reach to lock works nicely. I wish the google experience launcher would support gestures, as we can always download the free 'screen off and lock' app and map a gesture to that too like I do in Nova launcher.
Both this KK Home launcher and Nova can utilize the "Knock Off" feature by simply double-tapping a blank area on the notification bar. This is the default behavior and no setup is required to invoke.
Thanks for making this available, OP!

Thanks! Did not know that. I can use that with the phone laying down. Unfortunately, my hands aren't big enough to reach the notification bar during one handed operation, so the Tasker workaround works better for me in that situation.

I haven't rooted yet. Maybe I'll try it if I do, but haven't really had the urge to do so. Came from a GNex where I crack flashed constantly, but ended up using a stock ROM when I discovered Tasker.

it doesnt seem to show my missed calls or text count on the icons though which is a bummer when you unlock your phone. anybody else having this problem? i missed a call and didnt even know it until i got a voicemail popup in my notification window
Anyone else getting a high mediaserver wakelock with this launcher? I'm assuming it's because of the always listening Google Now on the homescreens. Mediaserver was using at least 15% of the battery on this launcher. Switched to Nova and mediaserver is down to 1%.
I have the latest Google search app installed and the "okay Google" isn't working for me. I'm on AEON ROM v3. What am I doing wrong?

Launcher options?

Anybody know of any launchers out there that integrate Google Now? I'd like to customize, but I like saying OK, Google (as cheesy as that sounds)

Don't think it's gonna happen.
KK Launcher is the only launcher I have seen to incorporate Google Now in any way. It launches Google Now when you scroll all the way to the left, but that's it.

As long as you keep the stock setting of swiping up on the home key to access Google Now, you're really only talking about a second or two to access the "Ok Google" feature.
Additionally, if you'd like to have the mic aware and listening constantly, I'd suggest the XDA link below. This way, you can have that feature available regardless of which launcher you're running.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404613
From what I read, it's only the stock launcher that can have the active listening.
Only reason I read about this was because I googled why it stopped once I installed Nova Launcher.
