I am having the exact same issue!
Anyone actually got it working? If so, how?
Many thanks!
have you installed a 3rd party keyboard?
i'm using swift key and all is well, but i thought i read somewhere that keyboards may cause an issue with the voice recognition thing
edit: i've been testing and it's working fine here
I can get to it to work on nexus 7 but not the 5

Sswipe left to the Google Now page and scroll down to the settings. Press Voice > Language and then English... > English (US). Then it will work.

You need to switch the language of Google Now to US English in the settings. Currently doesn't work in any other language unfortunately (even other forms of English!). Hope for update to fix this soon.
I don't see why Google couldn't do at least the other forms of English too. I mean, much less work than a completely different language. They already have voice recognition for all English sublangugaes, makes no sense to me why they couldn't enable it for UK English when the device can recognise the words 'OK Google' in my British accent just fine.
There have been a couple of times where it opens after saying Google now, but then hangs while trying to recognise what I've said and it sucks the battery (shows a lot of use under google services and google search), I have to restart the phone before it then works again.
Thanks guys much appreciated

I think I have a similar issue. I am able to search after a reboot but after a while it stops working. I think there is a problem with cached processes. Try going to settings > apps > cached processes and stopping the Google Search process. Things should start working. It's not an ideal fix though. Hopefully it's a fixable software bug. I've submitted a bug report to Google so maybe you should try as well?

No problem. As I said, it's not an ideal issue but neither is it a total deal breaker. I wouldn't RMA the phone for such I thing I don't think. It obviously seems like a software problem so I sent through a bug report using the feedback function on the phone itself. Maybe if it's a widespread thing Google can actually take an active look at it and release a fix. to my unqualified mind it seems like there is a problem putting apps into the cached process. I've noticed with more experimenting that the search function seems to stop only after swiping the app away from the multi tasking tray...Seems as though the system is having trouble storing Google Search in cached processes.
Of course, I am not a proper developer so I could be totally wrong.
I'm glad the temporary fix works for you also!

Yea I found that out with my nexus 10 with Nova launcher and stock 4.3 launcher . I was hoping it will allow the open search voice prompt as the google bar is on both launchers . Sucks .

Yeah, I've been using Open Mic +. It's pretty good and no need to use a different launcher. You can also customize it instead of saying "Ok Google." I just changed my activation word to "Google" and it automatically opens up Google Search and listens to what you want to say. Pretty convenient. You can turn it off and on. Just google it. I believe it's also in the play store.

Very minimal if any drain. I'm actually using the 2.4 version. 3.5 is the latest, and I'm not sure how good that one is, but I've had no issues with mine. Also, people complaining about slow start up time isn't true. The 3-5 seconds it takes is only when you first start the app. After that, every time you say your hotword, it opens up quite fast and ready to listen. That's for 2.4 at least. I'm sure 3.5 has to be better.

Here bro. This is the apk I have. I uploaded it for you. I tried the newer one and the older one seems to work better for me. Not sure why. Give it a go and let me know.

OK. I don't know if I'm just a complete spazz or what, but I can't find the voice dictation icon in the new Google keyboard on the nexus 5. Can someone help me out? Sorry

it's somewhat per app... if the text block has the mic icon you don't need one on the keyboard so it doesn't show on the keyboard in some apps, especially if the app has a search function. and you can always use the hot words if you have it set to a compatible language...

well for example, it wont show up in hangouts, which is the only time i used this function (to text)
Yeah, this is important, I use it quite a bit to text. Swiftkey has it as a long press but I like the standard keyboard better so I'd prefer to use that.
You also need to enable voice typing, in addition to the mic.

Things that make me go "derp", thank you!
Also, I'm not sure if this is a requirement, but I did not see changes in my keyboard after changing those settings until after I performed a reboot. YMMV.

What's that doing between Google Pinyin and iWnnIME?
Ok I have been searching but it seems like either my keywords are wrong or just my phone. Anyway it seems like once I unlocked my bootloader, I could no longer use "ok google" on the Google launcher anymore. And I noticed that the mic image changed from the original image to the one with hollow center mic image once I unlocked. I don't know if anyone experienced this? Please share, and if yes, how to get this function back? It's not an important function of course but It's fun to use..

I've read this solution briefly somewhere but I didn't realise it applied to my situation until now. I feel quite dumb now haha. Really appreciate your reply, thanks a million D
I selected the UK as my country by accident when selecting my language/country. I noticed when I open some apps like amazon it open the UK version. I can't find a way to change it back to English Canada...I know factory reset will help but just spent half the day setting up everything. Plus I'm not at home.

Did you try changing language under the language and input settings? I'm not certain it will fix it but worth a try.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Sankofa is correct. My wife has had this issue with some apps showing different country versions. I'd change your region correctly in Language & Input, uninstall the offending app, reboot and reinstall. Should sort it out.
Yes I changed the language in the settings. Just had to change the settings manually in certain apps.
