So, I know you're thinking that lag and the TF700 go together like water and wet and that what I'm reporting here is not news, but I had gotten to talking about the dismal user experience I get out of my tab on G+ and one of the other commenters insinuated that the lag I'm seeing is actually more than should be expected.
I'm actually pretty computer savvy, so I'd like to think that if there's a sofware issue that I can find it with guideance from the community. Let me know how I can gather logs and diagnostic info, and I'll gladly help out anyway I can.
Right now, I'm on CROMi-X 5.2a with _that's (whichever is the newer one) 1318 profile with fsync off, software rendering disabled, and none of the Asus bloat other than their snazzy video editor. I have a sh!t-ton of widgets because that's what homescreens are for, I generally leave the wi-fi off when it's asleep to conserve battery, and I roll Normal performance profile.
The machine has periods of really good performance punctuated by episodes of tremendous lag. When I say tremendous, I mean it takes so long to load most apps that the one-minute sleep timer has expired and the tab has gone to sleep before the app can finish loading. In many cases, it will be several minutes. Accessing the notifications tray is a twenty second ordeal before it appears on the screen. Wi-fi settings can take 60 seconds to load, so I'm hosed if I'm on the wrong network. And scrolling? Ya, right. More like swipe the screen, go get coffee, come back to see if it's moved.
I'm committed to replacing it with something that isn't awful, but I'm holding out for the new Nexus 10, as it sounds like nobody is willing to make a convertible Android tab that's worth a damn.
If I can't get it to work acceptably I'll probably try to join the ranks of testers.

I believed that something must be wrong on your device. I have a very similar setup except that I am using Hund v3.4.2 ET v1.5 and not a themer. I did test _that v7 not too long ago and it was very reasonable speed so I don't think it is the culprit.. I did a quick test to open about 50 apps and games all together to check the timing. The longest loading app was about 15 seconds.. Most of them were about 5-8 seconds... About webpage loading, it is vary depending on what are there to load but it is definitely a lot quicker than 60 seconds. I am using the stock browser and br2ram and can load the xda website within 2-4 seconds on average with my wifi speedtest about 27MBps..
I am not an expert so I can not help you about the logs to troubleshoot your problems but you could try to use a different ROM and kernels to see if it helps.. You said that your device ran very good and got lags.
Did your device ran very fast when you first installed it and started getting more lags with time?

With that kind of a setup, I bet it is a PIA to do a clean install...
Which leads me to the question: When's the last time you did one?
The lag you describe is worse than most TF700s on stock and unheard of CROMi-X!
If you really want to get to the bottom of this, you have to invest a day where you start from scratch:
Backup everything in terms of data, make TiBu backups of your apps, use the backup function of your launcher etc., and make a nandroid of your current rom.
Then format /data in TWRP, and flash CROMi-X 5.2.2.
Choose to install a few apps in the installer like Dropbox, TiBu etc. Reboot to system, give the tab 10 minutes to settle, and check how it performs.
I am willing to bet that there's no lag whatsoever.
Then start restoring your apps and widgets a couple at a time and keep testing in between.
Once you find the culprit(s), it's decision time: Do you really want/need that cr*** that is causing even CROMi-X to lag??
If the answer is yes, then you'll just have to wait until you find a tablet that can handle your needs, I guess.
It's really a crap shoot if it's going to work well or not, but it seems like from the first time I flashed CROMi 5.04 from the newest OTA with 2.6.3.1 TWRP, the pattern has been this (prior to the upgrade, it did follow the start ok and get bad then stay bad pattern):
Flash kernel du jour and wipe dalvik + cache
Go do something useful to give it 20 minutes to settle, plugged in so it has wifi on
Start using it, have little lag
Set it aside, go do something with the day such as go to work
Get home, open the tab, swear profusely while I wait for it to wake up
Swear some more
Run Lagfix (or lately, the FStrim in Android Tuner Free is set to fire every boot, but run it anyway in case it's been too long since I've booted)
Buzz off for 10 minutes while it does its magic
Swear at the tablet becuase it still lags
Swear some more
Close it and curse the day I bought it
Come back the next day, ~40% chance it lags like a 80386 running Wing Commander III.
Every few days, I'll decide I must have flashed the wrong kernel or that I need to toggle software rendering.
These days, I'm still on TWRP 2.6.3.1, and I've used each of the CROMi's that have come out (totally not CROMi's fault, for sure, it was a very slim brick before I found that particular bottle of awesomesauce) with all of the kernels... until each one lags so hard I cry. Right now, I'm on _that's and I've had two consecutive sessions without noticeable lag. I love the thing when it's smooth, but the lurking monster of lag is just about to drive me batty. Sometimes, when I have lag, I'll put my engineer cap on and load CatLog to try to see if I can make sense of anything, but all of the errors seem unrelated. Also, the G+ commenter mentioned the microSD card issue, and I've had the card out of the device since. Maybe that's why I'm seeing less lag right now? Time will tell.

In other words: You have been flashing one installation over the other, one kernel over the other without ever cleaning up?

Keep that sdcard out for a while for testing and also check settings of play store and make sure auto updates are not on.
If you are willing try a data wipe and install of 5.2.2 out yesterday with default settings and fsync off and see how you get on

Upgrade to 5.2.2 and you will rejoice! //smile I'm using hunds modded with hot plug at 2-6-8 as the only setting change. Very smooth.

One and the same. Someday, children will sing songs in your honor, sbdags. I've pulled the Class 2 SD card and it seems to have put the kabosh on the really extreme lag issues, which puts me back on pretty good standing. I do have auto-updates on right now, and I have (as the other commenter mentioned) been flashing just about every kernel in the CROMi-X packages pell-mell with only a dalvik/cache wipe. It sounds like that may have been a faux pas on my part?
So, this weekend I'm going to do the full monty, and do the wipe /data and business with the new 5.2.2. I will gladly take recommendations for which kernel and boot options I should use (I'm particularly suspicious of the disable software rendering switch, for instance).
For what it's worth, the user experience is rockstar right now, on par with my MBP I use at work.

I am glad that you see the improvement... The Cromi 5.2.2 is very fast and you will love it... If you really want to see your tablet flying, you should give Hund v3.4.2 + ET v1.5 a shot. Cromi X + Hund + ET = Fast & Furious... Let us know how it is when you have a chance testing these out...

I'm really apprehensive about overvolting, as I like to use a Moko leatherette case that can hold the heat in. It does really well heat-wise with the _that's 1318 profile, and isn't laggy at all (well, it is atm, but it's doing the TiBu and that's understandable) with the SD card out. I may try hund's with it clocked down to 1.3 or 1.4 and see how that goes.
When I got home from work today, I opened it to find it was all lag-tastic. I rebooted it (it took - no bullsh!t - two minutes to shut down) and let it run a cycle of FStrim and it's auto updates, and it's been like butter since.
I've finished my backup, I'm ready to go download the ROM. I'll check back in here before taking the plunge.

Did you flash the ET edition on a clean install?
That's a bug. Flash the normal version first, then flash the ET and you can change the time zone.
So, I had done the clean install, but then I went and re-did the clean install. I booted into _that's long enough to change the timezone, rebooted, and then dropped Hund's 3.4.2 on it again. I went off to sleep on it and came back to really awesome performance.
I'm starting to really suspect that the Class 2 SD card was the core problem here, because I put it in the machine like the day I got it.
I'm going to go run a benchmark or two.

So I've had a couple of use cycles with really good response. It gets a little warm, but I've clocked back to 1/1.4/1.8 and that seems to help out. I'm gradually replacing my apps (fresh dowloads natch, as I burned the backups when I wiped) and there's just a bit of lag while they install, but nothing unforgiveable.
The time zone is back how it should be. I've installed GEL, but I can't seem to enable the 'OK Google' feature. I'll give it a few days and report back my findings.

Are you running Hund ET or just Hund? If you are running just Hund, I would recommannd to change your UV for both CPU/GPU... It will reduce heat and add more battery life...
I'm on Hund's ETs, and adjusting the profiles as mentioned above brought heat to acceptable levels without a compromise to experience. I'm shopping memory cards now, and it looks like the Samsung Pro line gets the most Eggs. Does anyone have experience with those?

Everything on my 300 works excellent except web browsing. Does anyone else have this issue? It's getting to the point to where I want to sell it!

I have been having this same issue, actually. I was just talking to the co-worker who sold me this tablet over the Prime and was expressing my concern with the really slow web browsing. Disclaimer, though, that I'm using Google Chrome to browse, not the stock browser. I was encouraged to try Opera and other browsers before condemning this device to slow browsing, so perhaps that would help us both?
I'm also in the process of rooting mine so -hopefully- the custom ROM's I install will have some performance tweaks.
Browsing seemed slow in both stock and Firefox. Tried Chrome and it seamed slow too.
On Boat browser now and it is really snappy. About as fast as my desktop. I really like the ability to import bookmarks from HTML files. Have Firefox synced to my desktop but like Boat better.

look at the prime forums , prime has the same problem.
cfq io scheduler makes it better (kernel mod), browser2ram fixes this because it does not cache on disk but in ram..
asus is looking into this but most people believe that asus uses cheap/slow memory chips/controllers....

I was reading about that. From what I have heard it works really well. I also heard through some rumors that ASUS will be addressing this in their next update. Although it is just rumors and who knows how long until the next update.
What I find to be a problem is the freezing and hiccups which occur on large webpages. Frequently I'll see the 'This program has stopped responding' message, forcing me to click on the wait button. I really hope a firmware fix will address this - it appears on all browsers for me. My Galaxy Note is far faster than my TF300 at loading sites. It's very frustrating.

Yep the IO performance sucks, hopefully we will get custom kernels soon, or asus will fix this who knows.
Yep just rooted and downloaded the apk. It's almost necessary. Chrome runs so much better right off the bat. I will say though that you do lose all your previous browser settings but it's 100% worth it.

Yea i hope asus finds a way fix this , some improvements can be made with a different io scheduler such as cfq however this will not improve raw speed, which is still terrible.
The sqlite benchmark shows us extreme bad performance especially on the 1000 inserts, 70 seconds where other devices are done in less than 1 second. I find it hard to believe that this is caused by memory chips itself , we are talking about hundred times worse?"

Guys. Thanks for the help. I have only tried Boat browser so far and I have noticed it is a bit faster than all the other browsers I've tried so far. Not perfect by any means, but better.
I will try those other methods later this week.
What are the odds Asus fixes this issue?
How come there aren't more complaints about this in the TF300 forum? Or does this not affect every tablet?

Has anyonec changed the performance settings to Performance Mode and noticed a difference? Seemed like I did.
On some web pages I can swipe the page, and then count to two before it actually moves. Then swipe again nothing. Then a couple of seconds later the page moves!
Like the web page is stuck in jello. Really Frustrating.
I kind of hope that the Transformer Infinity uses something other than Tegra 3 as has been suggested. Not sure I want to take a chance on another Tegra 3 device just yet.

I got mine yesterday and its already rooted. All I did was install the asus pc suite for the driver. Then be sure to close Asus Sync in the system tray. Then I used this method.

I'm wondering if anyone can weigh in on how their device performs out of the box. I got mine on Saturday and unlocked it and am thinking of installing some of CM9's work because I've always like what he's done on the Droids, but I'm noticing that this tablet, for lack of a better way to say, is awful.
It freezes all the time. When you get into a the browser, whether it's stock or chrome, the pages are unresponsive to zoom in and out. I mean ultimately your action will be performed, but I've seen it take 5 seconds. It's actually unbearable. My D4 NEVER has this problem EVER and the tablet should blow the D4 away.
How does everyone else's tf300 work? And will custom ROM's improve this awful experience? I don't want to have to take it back and I won't if there is potential somewhere that I'm not realizing. I have 10 days left to decide and right now, it's a no-go. So if anyone can share their experience I'd love to hear it.
I bought my tf300 yesterday, and couldn't be happier. I unlocked it and installed aokp this morning and things have been great. Haven't noticed any lag viewing webpages, youtube, music etc. I've been very happy with this tabIet, as it's my first one. I believe aokp allows you to overclock to 1.5ghz (obviously it drains batteries a little bit more) but even on the stock asus rom, i encountered no lag whatsoever.
as shocking as it might be to know..i have not yet rooted the tf300t. i've been using it for over a month now..i got it the week that it came out..and i've happy with it. every once in a while you will see a "freeze" for now reason. It does seem to freeze more on startup because it is trying to do several things at once (like update gmail, corporate account, and sync up other things). But after that it is really smooth.
I was talking to another friend about this and he managed to hunt down someone else having similar issues to me and Asus declared their product to be defective, issue a new one, which works "flawlessly". I guess it's back to Office Depot I go. I refuse to let Apple win.
Hopefully you get a working one, I'm enjoying mine quite a bit. The aokp rom is quick and fun to use, and I refuse to ever own apple products. Go android!
I bought mine about 2 weeks ago , and it freezes one or 2 times , but in general works great , didn't unlocked and changed to custom roms yet but will in future , but for now i am loving it

Have it now for 6+ weeks. Stock/rooted. Works like a champ. Good tablet apps are the issue, not the tab. No way you should have the issues you do.

Got mine 3 weeks before. unlocked it and rooted from the second day, i am really happy from the latest update the us.30 for me. i dont experience any lag or freezes or force closes at all. The performance is better but it always depends on the owner.
I found useful to install an app called autostarts (needs root) that prevents apps from being loaded at any time u use your device.
For example i cant understand why google play store must open when i remove an application. With this program i prevent things from loading at startup of the device, so i have a quicker startup time and i know that no other apps are in use when i dont need them and only working is the app that i use.
U can see what apps are runnig at any time with a task manager or something relevant.
So as i say before the performance of a device depends also on the owner.
I bought 2 tf300's, one for me and one for my girlfriend. Mine has Cyanogenmod 9 on it, hers has stock (.30 firmware).
I will say that mine is noticeably faster, Chrome doesn't lag hardly ever, hers freezes up a lot more.
You should be careful about some apps too, Facebook in my opinion is the worst. That app will cause your phone/tablet to lag like nothing else, as soon as I uninstalled Facebook on my girlfriends tablet it was like a brand new machine (though still not quite as fast as CM 9)

I was having this issue also and was getting pretty fed up with it.
However, after doing a reset on the device it works perfectly now. Resetting the device formats the primary partition and takes it back to stock (keeping firmware updates). You can get to this option by turning the device off and holding the volume down button when powering on and it should be the second option. This stopped the force closes and lags with my TF300T
I know that asus has loaded some bloatware on the tablet which cause it to lag occasionaly so i used seanz rom. It's so fast it's scary it really takes advantage of the power of this tablet.

Yeah. Seanz' Hydro rom makes stock appear laggy and unresponsive my device was running slow before the. 30 firmware update.

The lag is mostly happening due to the I/O scheduler in the kernel. We probably won't see the true performance on this tablet until we get a custom kernel. The source is on ASUS's website but no kernel hackers have this device. The lag only shows when mounting and un mounting SD cards, writing to SD cards/NAND and downloading/updating Play store apps.
The only fix I know so far is to go find a SIO scheduler from the Transformer Prime's forum and install it. I did that and the lag went away but looking at benchmarks for I/O schedulers (noop vs SIO), noop has lag but higher scores and SIO has very little or no lag with lower scores.

So I finally bit the bullet and rooted, unlocked and flashed cleanROM on my TF700. I wiped both caches (or so I thought) but when I rebooted not much seemed to have changed. I guess I was expecting to have to completely reinstall all my apps and settings. However, all of the my apps and icons where right where I left them. Matter of fact at first I couldn't even tell anything had changed until I looked at the "about tablet" section and saw that the build version was in fact cleanROM.
Don't get me wrong, this thing seems to fly now, but I can't shake the feeling that I missed something during flashing. Was there an option I missed or should I have wiped it?

You did it perfectly. :good: CROMI is a stock based ROM and as such you get to keep all your data, apps and settings.The look is stock too
What you do get is root, performance tweaks (memory, zip aligned, cpu, touch sensitivity, dpi), updated Asus and google apps, extra apps installed to system, system apps removed if you didn't select them as well as other tweaks, functionality (swipe JB keyboard, smoother scrolling, faster performance, faster kernel, ad blocking) if you selected them
Make sure you install the 3.0.4 patch if you havent done so already.
I also bit the bullet today, not regretting it so far. Cleanrom is sweet!

Nothing special. Can i give someone any reports or logs so that the problem Can be located?
What are the best ways to try to solve this?

How concerned should I be about the fsync issue? Should I worry about data corruption, or the entire os getting corrupted, or just backup regularly and not worry about it?

Which kernal are you using? Fsync Disabled?
Reinstall the rom but choose the stock Asus tf700 kernel. Does it still reboot? Did you update to the jelly bean bootloader from asus first?

I believe I'm using the 1.5... The one below the highest. almost too many options but fsync enabled. Yes I did update bootloader and I will have to reflash later not at the tablet at the moment.
Does disabling Fsync really speed things up? What is the likely hood of things going wrong?
My benchmarks where off the charts! In the 7000's using Quandrant and like 20 seconds using sql light. Also, I noticed transferring files from the memory card to the tablet was much faster.
Even though benchmarks are nice, it's real world performance that counts. The whole reason I unlocked and flashed was because I was tired of waiting 3 to 5 seconds for the apps to start loading when I selected then. Now they start so much faster. Not as fast as my razr hd maxx, but one can dream.

Has anyone noticed if the lag/skipping when playing mp3's from either the sd card or internal memory still occurs after all the tweaks in this rom? Speaking for me, that is my biggest complaint with my device. I can deal with the few extra seconds to open an app but can't stand to hear music skip every 15-30 seconds.

Never had this, even with the stock ROM. This is not normal, check for CPU-intensive or I/O-intensive background processes.

It would also be good to know which music player. I definitely don't have this problem. But what are you doing at the same time as listening to music?

I'd recommend starting off with the stock kernel. It could be that your TF700 can't handle the overclocking. I would also definitely keep fsync enable until you solve the random reboots, otherwise you could end up with some nasty corruption. Personally, other than benchmarks, I didn't notice a difference with fsync enabled or disabled. Even though my TF700 is able to handle overclocking, I'm now back to using stock kernel and the TF700 still performs extremely well with CleanROM 3.0.4. This may change once Clemsyn re-compiles his kernels with the latest Asus sources, but for now, I'd stick with the stock kernel.
Please let us know your results if you do try this.

hmm I'm not doing anything other than listening to the music. I have it hooked up to computer speakers when I exercise at home and work with headphones. I thought this was a common thing and someone mentioned it was caused by moments of lag. I use poweramp as the music player but also experienced it during playback using the amazon music player. I couldn't figure how to tell which folder had my music files in the google music player. It was loading everything like ring tones so I stopped using it.
I went and cleared up the media cache so the system reloads everything. I searched a previous thread and saw that suggested for someone having issues getting their pc to see the files when it was connected. Figured why not try it since I'm having a problem with media files. Rebooted and waited 10min before launching music again. Weird but it seems to have improved. There are still a few moments of lag that I'm noticing but nothing like before. I'm going to keep playing music in the background and see if it gets worse or goes away. Think I will just take the plunge with a unlock and try cleanROM if it doesn't go away entirely.

Hang on you are not using CleanROM or CleanROM Inheritance? Why have you posted your issues in this thread then? No wonder we are confused about your issues
Yes the stock Asus rom has many i/o problems. You can solve most of them by installing a custom rom.
I was simply asking if anyone had experienced the issue using a CleanRom install before going through the process. Not trying to troubleshoot or solve it. With many things the rom fixes no one might have realized this being corrected. I will be unlocking and installing the rom soon. I apologize for asking the question and wasn't trying to highjack the original post. Mods feel free to delete my posts.
My TF700t is still stock. One thing that bugs me is how slow it is! Choppy, loads apps kinda slow. Will rooting and using a custom ROM speed things up?
Also ---- I read on here that custom ROMs put the navigation buttons in the middle? Is that true?

Rooting allows certain apps that will speed the tablet up. Installing a custom rom will increase the speed of the tablet tremendously,however to do so you must unlock your bootloader which then voids the warranty on your tablet. If you install a 4.2.x rom yes it will move the navigation buttons into the middle, however not all roms are 4.2 yet. When ASUS releases 4.2.1 for the tf700 they will have it optioned to switch between layouts, which will be implemented into Cromi when it is update, is what I guess will happen. So you will have the choice. But you wont be forced to use the new layout.

If you root it, you can install Browser 2 Ram and that will help with the browser lag.
To install a custom ROM you will have to unlock the bootloader, which will void your warranty -for good!
And it can make all the difference...
I was frustrated and disappointed with the TF700 until I unlocked and flashed CROMI -now I adore it!
Each custom ROM is slightly different. What you are referring to may be the 4.2. launcher which puts the soft key buttons in the middle.
There is no 4.2. stock or custom Rom for the TF 700 yet. But the 4.2. release for the TF 300 lets you choose between the 4.1. and 4.2. launcher. I would expect it to be the same once we get 4.2.
But then... I would not touch 4.2. unless it's been CROMI'd

Won't be too long. My bet is, Asus releases 4.2. for the TF700 within the next 3-4 months. Then the only question is what the bootloader will look like and how long it will take sbdags and _that to create a CROMI version...
I'm not in a hurry. Entirely happy with what I got right now
And actually.... I'm so contend right now, 4.2 is going to have to have some serious candy to make me move....

Short answer: yes it makes everything MUCH faster!

If the best they can do is that multi-user capability, I will probably stick to CROMI 3.4.4 as well -- at least we have very little known bugs whereas a new 4.2 stock ROM might bring unknown new and fresh ones. Ugh. Another boatload of work for sbdags and _that...
One thing rooting does is give you the authority to define which apps load on boot (startups). This is huge since you can disable most of these and get back tons more RAM after boot, which is the main reason this device is so glitchy in my opinion - lack of sufficient RAM. Phones run strong in 1GB RAM. Tablets do not. Because you typically load so many more apps on the tablet, all the RAM is gone by the time you boot. And when its gets low on RAM, all hell breaks loose. Not to mention the lag, if thats not bad enought, but 25 apps just can't run together properly in 250MB of space. Now try 260 user apps like I have and you'll agree you have to root.
After rooting and tweeking I now get about 500MB of free RAM after boot and use RAM booster (by Root Uninstaller) to manage and autoboost my RAM regularly. Its now fast, reliable, and runs all week without ever random rebooting like it used to do all the time. Also, Dev Options, enabling "Force GPU rendering" is highly recommended.

I'm going to go ahead and add to the countless times this has been said aready, just for the record, and for the future readers of this thread.
1. Free RAM is wasted RAM.
2. I had a lot of apps installed, but I didn't get past the 130 mark. Who the Hell has so many apps in use anyway? This is an invalid remark, im ny opinion, for it has absolutely no bearing on the device's capabilities, but only says something about the owner. With that kind of number of apps installed, you make it impssible for ANdroid to manage your memory.
I haven't rooted my device yet but when you root it you can use programs that allow you to speed your phone up (battery drain)

please, apologize if that was covered somewhere, but I didn't feel like I found my case.
I've got Asus Transformer tf101 with 3G. Rooted, flashed with CyanogenMod 9 and then with the latest night builds a month ago - before that it was updated with the latest Asus firmware.
Every time the tablet go to sleep, when running from battery - it's either shutdown itself or reboot itself.
Tried: disabling WiFi, setting CPU limit to the highest, disabling lock screen, changing brightness, tried to check for the log files, but don't have any kmesg_last or anything else like that.
Could you, please, assist - at least with finding the log files to get an idea on what's wrong? Any help would be appreciated.
Welcome to the world of random reboots and sleeps of death. This is a common occurrence with a lot of folks on the TF101. The only things you can try is to either endure it or reflash/flash another rom. I'm on EOS 4 and I used to be on CM10 and have experienced both these issues on different releases of each rom. I've been on #101 of EOS 4 now and havent had any sleep or restart issues yet but time will tell.

Yeah, I'm already trying the EOS 4 - it seems to be at least a bit more stable and, apart from everything, it looks a bit better than the CM. Will keep testing - hopefully it will work.
