My friend just got the Moto G, he opened the box and plugged it in. After about 10 minutes he came back and noticed that there was no charging light or any indication that the phone was charging. I have tried it on numerous different cables and chargers yet still nothing. Any suggestions or should I just advise and RMA because of DOA? I do have access to the phone if anyone has ideas.
[Edit: The phone is locked to Tesco mobile, this shouldn't make a difference should it?]
Edit 2: The problem was solved by leaving the phone for a day and plugging it in the next day.
I think you need to install the drivers for the phone before it will charge. Some leads won't work, stick with the official one.
The phone should charge from a wall charger though should it not?

Of course. I use my old HTC wall charger with my Moto G all the time. What's the maximum current output of the wall charger you're using? I've read that the Moto G requires at least 500mA and can draw up to 1500mA (after which it's limited to this value).
Yeah that's what I thought. I've tried his phone on my kindle and HTC charger (1 & 1.2amp), still nothing.

Sounds like it's a brick. I reckon your friend should return it and get another (it's worth it - it's such a great phone!)
Have you tried on the USB computers port? Btw the charger for this phone should be as powerful as 750Mah 5,1V 0,20A.

Try charge it from wallcharger first (any micro USB charger will do). But any phone should have at least 20% of battery...
RMA time.

Just a hunch from the FAR FAR LEFT... while plugged into a wall charger, plug in a head phone. See what happens. No guarantees but I've seen weird things happening with Google phones.

Mysteriously after he left the phone for a day, then plugged the power in the LED came on and it started up. Strange?! I'll try to get more details about exactly what he did.

Hey I'm sorry to hear that, I spoke to my friend again and he said all he did was leave the phone for about a day then plugged it in again. He did mention something about wriggling the connector around in the phone socket so it may have been loose power connections.

Same with me now, weird
It seems, you shouldn't let the Moto G power off itself... Waiting now
[edit]
Put it in the fridge for 15 mins, this worked
Note that I tested three wall chargers, one 850mAh from Motorola, one 1Ah and one 2Ah from Samsung. The only one which booted up the Moto G was the 1Ah from Sammy.
Just return it to tesco they either swap it or send it to anovo for swap/repair

Tried it yesterday, didn't work.
This afternoon, I just tried to plug it into the mains with one charger and the light flickered for a second. And would then flicker if I held the power button for around 5 seconds at a time. Using a different charger had the light steady for a few minutes before the phone showed a battery with 0% charging. Fully working now though.
I would take it back anyone might be faulty battery sensor

I don't know if this is the right section if it isnt mod please move it..
I'm going crazy with this, last night I finished using my phone and I placed it next to my bed.. When I woke up I found the phone was off, it surprised me a bit because I didn't recall leaving it with very low battery. I proceeded to plug it to my computer to charge and I noticed that the led turned on a white light which I've never been aware of seeing before.. Came back after a couple of ours and the phone was just as how I left it, and still wouldn't turn on.. I've tried everything, removing the battery, the sim, the sd and that stuff..
Any ideas please!! I can't replace it for a new one, I bought it on amazon when I was in the states couple of months ago, I'm in Uruguay now.
Thank you in advanced!

Got an Infuse 4G from my neighbor ( He switched from ATT to Verizon knew I needed a phone so he was kind enough to give it to me) and now the phone doesn't charge. What can I do?
Chances are, you have a bad charger or a bad battery.
Either that or a broken usb port. You could be surprise on how many galaxy phones get no charge because of the usb charging port. Its very sensitive and it can be broken quite easily. But if you give more details maybe we can help. Does it responds when you connect it or it wont do anything at all?

prob is your battery if you wanna stay oem battery same thing you can get them at good prices on eBay and Amazon

Infuse Wont stay on or charge
Hello, maybe someone can help me here. My infuse suddenly won't charge or turn on at all. When I plug in the USB cable from my computer or the wall the battery icon comes on with the animated loading circle thing then goes off after about a second of doing that. When I do a hard reset with or without the battery in it and with or without the charger plugged in, the same thing happens.
Its been several days since this has been happening and after trying again today, it actually turned on and booted to the OS and was charging for about 5 mins before it stopped recognizing the charger. I pulled the battery and it since will not turn on. The battery has some charge on it but will not turn the phone on, just does the weird battery thing as described above.
I have tried several different charging cables, but have no other battery to try. Any suggestions?
Hello i had the same problem awhile back. When my phone was not rooted(Infuse) i had to go to recovery mode and wipe cache after that the charger recognized right away on the phone.
Another time After i rooted i flashed a bad rom and i could not get my phone to charge while it was off. It could only charge with the phone on....SO maybe try flashing a newer better ROM i recommend CM10.
Another thing i had to do was switch this old charger i had it would recognize for 5 min then Stop. It was just a bad wire connection.

The problem is I cannot get it to turn on at all. I was running CM10 and have tried 4 different charger/usb cables.
Sadly, the connection of this device is a known weak spot.. if its not doing anything when connected to some form of current.. all signs point to a dead port..
Hopefully that isn't the case..

I also went through this issue and i discovered that it will keep going through a battery icon and then off loop so the way to deal with this is as soon as you see the battery picture just hold the power button for like 2 or 3 seconds and then you should see the battery green indicator with the botton dots animation and it will Charge.
I am having the same issue as xtz as well. I cant get it to turn on. I flashed the Paranoid Android rom and it all went downhill from there. I flashed it and it had 10% battery left, by the end of the night it was at 1%. I went to bed and woke up with it only at 5%. I went back to stock then re-rooted it. I installed CWM but it wouldn't let me go into CWM recovery, only the Android recovery. Now the phone won't turn on at all, I have swapped batteries and USB cords with no luck. This is a brand new unit less than a week old, the battery is also less than 2 weeks old. Any help here? It won't turn on at all It does the same little ritual that xtz's does.

I already tried that and it seems to have messed up one of the batteries. The little loading circle will come on for a split second then it will go away, come back a few seconds later and it just loops. I plugged in the USB while holding the volume keys to try and get it into download mode but I'll get a warning message saying something about installing a different OS being dangerous, again, for a split second, and shuts off. It seems like the phone can't have any power go through it for more than a split second.
I'm having a similar issue with the phone not charging. But the phone won't PC or wall charger. But check this out I have a jigg for putting device in download mode when I connect it to phone. The phones goes in to download now when powered on. So what do guys think is wrong?

been running my inspire using Existz's ICS rom via the ace hack kit. no problems. i went and picked up an infuse 4g and decided to use it. so had that rooted and running. yesterday backed up everything on the inspire and removed the sim and sd card started using them in the infuse. was still playing games and such on the inspire. here's were things started to act weird. plugged in both phone on the wall charger and powered off the inspire. well it kept rebooting in recovery. i'd go down to power off and it'd come back on. did this maybe 3 times and then finally stayed off. today went to show a friend that was interested in it and it would not power on. no led light, nothing. plugged it in and still nothing. put in the spare battery and no led light or anything. tried to put it into recovery, nadda. put the sim and sd card in thinking it may make a difference, nope. so i'm not getting any power.
any help is appreciated.

I have no idea about that...but send an email to HTC to see what they tell you...
Try letting it sit and charge for a while second try to boot into hboot. I'm assuming that you rooted your phone so going through HTC for repair is not an option. I had a similar issue I ended up booting into hboot and then flashing a stock rooted img and starting all over with my phone.
Since your computer recognizes the device, did you try to send it a reboot command via adb?

No I did not. Not sure how to to do it that way, but I'm sure I can find out how.
After reading a couple threads where people have had the same issue, I left the battery in it and placed it on the nightstand. It started to vibrate a few times and when I hit power I get a solid red led. Will have to search and see what that means.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
It sounds like it could be a bad battery. Given the red light, what has me wondering in the vibration prior to you pushing the power button. It almost sounds like the phone shutting down from low battery, but you said it wasn't on.
Sent from my Inspire 4G running AOSPX-BR7
Just a little note on Android phones. If you let them die completely they will not charge the battery from a PC or computer of any kind. The ports on a PC only provide 500ma max and it require at least 1 amp to charge a dead battery. That can only be accomplished by the wall charger that was supplied with the phone. If you are using another charger make sure it says on it that is can supply at least 1 amp or 1000ma any thing less will not charge a dead battery. Also note if the battery is completely dead, then the phone will not charge any way. The phone has to be able to power up and load the OS in order to charge. Androids use a software based charger that does not know how to charge unless the phone can boot and preload the the boot part of the OS. You may need an external charger the battery alone can be placed in or buy a new battery as they will usually have enough of a charge to get you going.
As the previous poster said, it sounds like you have a bad cable from the beginning and all you did is discharged it completely. Get a new cable and try the wall charger. If that does not work then spend 20 bucks and get a new battery.

well i have 2 batteries, 2 different plug adapters, 3 different cords and a car charger. tried six different ways charging from a wall adapter and flip flopped batteries as i changed cords and plugging it into the car charger. each cord and the car charger works with my infuse and worked with the inspire that day. battery was at 3/4 when i plugged it in. i guess could try a new batter, but i'm doubtful.
My Moto G which I bought from Saudi Arabia 2 days ago before coming back to Egypt for good has the following scenario:
Note: I'm using the original moto g charger "500 mah" that came in the box with my phone.
1st 100% charge overnight, then lasted almost 14 hrs.
2nd overnight charge, only did 95% "even tho it was plugged for 7-8 hrs" and lasted 7 hrs before battery go to zero level and device shut down.
when my phone shut down, it got stuck at the coma status, I tried every method mentioned in this post but the "waiting till the next day method" and nothing did work.
methods I used: freezer, fridge, 18 sec power on, 1 minute power on, 2-3-4 minutes power on and even the exact method on Motorola website and that method one member suggested to blug in the headphone while trying to power on or charge.
chargers I used with every method: Moto G 500 mah, Alcatel 550 mah, Galaxy Tab 7 2ah and Blackberry USB cable on computer.
result, nothing! phone still dead, and i can't return it cause I'm in a different country now and we don't even have it yet here.
my Moto G is 16GB, dual sim and running stock Kit Kat 4.4 which is available for the phone. no modified roms or any other dev setting was applied, the phone wasn't rooted. it's just like out of the box, few apps installed "some of them are downloaded from the internet" and stock upgraded to kit kat.
before hitting the zero level, the phone was charged for few minutes on a samsung charger, most probably it's for a note 3. when it went off I tried a car charger "bleackberry" for few minutes which gave me 3 pulse led white notification and nothing else.
I guess this shouldn't be related to the situation, but I'm using a data sim as sim 2 for internet and sim 1 for calls only. phone internet is running on H+ most of the time, 3G the if not H+.
I'm going to wait till tomorrow and try again, hopefully it works. but if anyone got any ideas or solutions PLEASE go on and reply with it even if you're not sure or if it's a crazy idea out of the box.
I only used the phone for 2 days :crying: I had VERY high expectations for this phone :crying:
(Update 1) I left the phone unplugged for 12 hours, plugged it in the 550mah charger for 2-3 hours, pressed the power button 1-2-3 minutes and no results still. also motorola Asia didn't reply to my email yet.
(Update 2) I unplugged the battery and put it back on, still nothing. some guy told me to connect it to a box and restore the software back to Jellybean and that the box should be capable of booting the phone up. will try that and refer back to you.
I really hope you find a solution for this, since I'm an Egyptian too who is interested greatly in moto g and may take the plunge of buying it from amazon, this really freaks me out.
I haven't read all the posts in the other topic on this subject but from what I read on other websites and could be mentioned before, you can try the following:
Plug a higher mAH charger (suggested 850 for example or 5V 2A charger) as it was probably with your blackberry car charger, then hold the power button for 2 minutes, If the LED blinks keep it charging for 10 minutes.
No idea If it would work or not of course.
I did so

Thank you bro, I know u get the whole pic.. I did actually try the car charger for almost 30-40 minutes but nothing.. only 3 blinks and that's it.. it didn't even keep the led on for few seconds,, just the 3 blinks and when I tried to turn it on, nothing!
btw, from the past 2 days, it's a great phone.. only this issue.. also the official kit kat update is a poor one, missing a lot of features but works GREAT on the phone.. u can get the phone from UAE or KSA.. the 16GB dual sim card is being sold for 900AED or 900SAR which is actually a TRUE bargain. also the charger u get with the phoneis 500 mah, so you better use another one that can charge faster cause this one is REALLY slow. you can use up to 1500mah
hopefully tho i get a decent reply from motorola for this issue.. no high hopes tho since it's not available in Egypt. :crying:
Yes, the price to value ratio for the moto g is incredible, it's really unfortunate that it wasn't/won't be released in Egypt.
Well, If I were you I would have tried the only suggestion remaining: to leave the phone for 24 hours without plugging it in or trying to power it on, then attempt again to charge it the next day. I really wish you luck in fixing this.
In the meantime, I will keep looking for any other suggestions and If I find any I will post here.

well, the phone is amazing, really fast and good in every way except few things, some basic not very important features are missing and this drained out not charging issue.
on this post everyone was able to fix their issue, except me.. so it seem fixable 99% and u can also skip this issue if u simple shut down your phone when it reach 3-4% and turn it on again when the charger is there.. i guess.
btw, I had an S4 LTE before the moto g, and I'll never pick the S4 again. i enjoyed the moto g more and the S4 sucked in many ways like over heating and battery life time which was 6-7 hrs and the cheap housing materials "screen cracked when had a slight fall and fixing it was half the price of a new S4"
Im having the same problem as you, i tried every method as you. The 24hours method i havent fully tried it yet. I left it for 24 hours and when i plugged it in the charger I still have the same problem. The people in motorola told me to leave it for 2-3 hours on charge and that's what exactly what im doing. I will get back to you if anything happens.
I did that

(Update 1) I left the phone unplugged for 12 hours, plugged it in the 550mah charger for 2-3 hours, pressed the power button 1-2-3 minutes and no results still. also motorola Asia didn't reply to my email yet.[/QUOTE
Im having the same problem as you, i tried every method as you. The 24hours method i havent fully tried it yet. I left it for 24 hours and when i plugged it in the charger I still have the same problem. The people in motorola told me to leave it for 2-3 hours on charge and that's what exactly what im doing. I will get back to you if anything happens.

well, the phone is amazing, really fast and good in every way except few things, some basic not very important features are missing and this drained out not charging issue.
on this post everyone was able to fix their issue, except me.. so it seem fixable 99% and u can also skip this issue if u simple shut down your phone when it reach 3-4% and turn it on again when the charger is there.. i guess.
btw, I had an S4 LTE before the moto g, and I'll never pick the S4 again. i enjoyed the moto g more and the S4 sucked in many ways like over heating and battery life time which was 6-7 hrs and the cheap housing materials "screen cracked when had a slight fall and fixing it was half the price of a new S4"

Thanks for the reply, I hope your moto g works again soon
Motorola should test the battery's before shipping a phone
Ballo
I faced the same problem once. When I plugged it to charge it's battery was about 80%. Then suddenly it went to 0% and it was automatically shut down. After charging it further 30 miss, it was still 0%. I turned it off, after removing back cover I pressed battery a little. Turned it on and the problem was solved. It happened 10 days back and never again. I am totally satisfied with moto g. It's a great phone.
-connect your phone to a charger
-hold the power button for 2-3min (led should blink few times)
-leave the phone connected for 1hour
-unplug it and hold the power button for 20-30 seconds and it should turn on.

This seems to be a critical issue. Try discharging the battery to full when in use and then charge again. Repeat this several times.

Any updates on this?
Is your Moto G working now or not?
If so, how did you fix it
Hi, all.
I dragged an old RAZR HD with a cracked screen out of the cupboard this morning, and wondered if I could get it going again. Attempted to power it on, however I doubted anything would be in the battery.
I was right.
I have long lost the original cable and power plug for the device, however I plugged it into a new Motorola turbocharger with a factory Motorola cable and let it sit for a few hours.
When id first plugged it in, the device's LED went green, and I took that as a sign of it working, so I let it so it's thing.
I came back to it after a few hours, unplugged it, and attempted to power on. Still nothing, so I plugged it back in, reasoning that it had been flat for some time and probably need a fair while on the charger.
About 20 minutes ago, I attempted again, this time feeling 5 short vibrations in quick succession, and nothing else.
I plugged it into the charger, and tried again. Nothing.
Tried again: 8 vibrations.
Tried a third time with the volume down button pressed as well. 10 vibrations this time.
Tried one last time with the volume up button, and got another 10 vibrations.
I'm not terribly concerned, as this device hasn't been used in a few years and wont ever be a daily driver again, but I'd like to get it running if possible. I don't understand what these vibrations mean, and can't find any information on then, so if anyone has experienced this or knows what these vibrations are, is love to hear about it.
Thanks

It could just be the battery. If you had a fastboot cable then you could just boot it with that and if it booted then you would know its just the battery. If it didn't boot then you would know you are haveing some problems. I got mine some time back on amazon for 10 bucks. Most of the time its just the battery. Only a few times was it something else.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I have heard of fastboot cables before. I believe I read somewhere else on XDA that people make them out of old micro USB data cables. Am I thinking of the right thing?
Edit: I found a post on droidforums that shows this in detail, and how to make one: http://www.droidforums.net/threads/how-why-to-make-your-own-motorola-factory-cable.146492/

Yes or you could by one. Its not really a fastboot cable without the resistor. The resistor is so you don't mess up the devices. e.g. Your android or your computer. Some people just like to take chances. I got mine for 10 dollars on amazon. I think you can get on eBay to.
