I just received my Moto G. I am with Bell and my sim card doesn't fit into the Moto G. Can anyone guide me through the process I should follow to switch to Bell?
I know I have to unlock the phone but can I use the card included with the Moto G, and then...do I have to activate it with Koodo before trying to unlock? If so, will I have to buy a plan?
Can you also point me to a site that explain in details the procedure to follow to unlock and what kind of info is needed ?
Finally, do you know if Bell will change for free my actual sim card for a new one of the correct size (my present phone is locked with Bell but is mine i-e no plan but attached to my family plan)?
Thanks
In order to unlock the phone, you'll need to buy an unlock code. There is no need to involve Koodo at all.
Simply purchase an unlock code using the phone's imei #. This is the company I used:http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Motorola-Unl...les_Accessories_RL&hash=item33881def80&_uhb=1
You purchase the item and enter your model #, carrier, and imei # in the comment box below your shipping address. Once you get the unlock code from the seller, put in a non-Koodo/Telus sim, and enter the unlock code when prompted to enter your unlock code. Now, your phone is permanently carrier unlocked.
If you need a new Bell sim, you can either go to a dealer and asked them to swap your sim for a micro sim or you can cut your existing sim to fit. There are instructions and templates on the Internet to cut it down to a micro sim. Some places will even cut it for free. I suggest going to a non-Bell exclusive dealer such as The Source or Bell -branded locations because many of them do it for free or a very nominal fee.
Where are you located? I assume you're in Canada since you have a Koodo phone.

Thanks for the detailed info! 1 more question:
- when you say "enter model #, carrier and imei #" are you referring to Koodo or the target carrier (Bell)?

Model # = Moto G, carrier=Koodo, imei # = set of numbers from dialing *#06# on your phone. If you want to check your imei #, go to mobileincanada.com, type in your imei #, and it should come up as a Moto G.

I have sent my payment with the info to the site you used and I am still waiting for my unlock number more than 24 hours later. is that a normal delay...or should I worry?
You could send them an email but it can take that long.
Did you check the information you sent?

Hey guys, I'm new to the G1. I just picked a used one up the other day to use over seas. I reset the phone not knowing I need a SIM in there to actually use it. I don't have access to a SIM card currently, but I will have one when I go over seas. Will the phone unlock so I can root it with a SIM card from a different carrier? Or do I need to have a TMobile one in there? My plan leaves tomorrow early morning, so I'm kind of in a bind when it comes to solving my phone issues.

Oops, I thought I posted in General.
The sim card from n e where will work for the rooting process so don't stress that. These instructions will get u n to the phone with out the sim card. http://theunlockr.com/2010/01/10/how-to-activate-the-g1-without-a-data-plan-or-sim-card/
Good luck!

If the phone is locked , you need to get it unlocked first....otherwise it wont use any other network sim other than t-mobile.
The easiest way to unlock it is to call t-mobile and ask them for unlock code by giving them IMEI number of the phone (can be found in the MENU--->SETTINGS---->ABOUT PHONE----->IMEI NUMBER)
They provide the unlock code for free.
Once you have it unlocked, then whatever sim you insert, you will be asked to enter the unlock code. Enter that code and phone will start using that sim.
If you dont get it unlocked here from T-mobile then get it unlocked from the country where you are going...but the charges and success rate of unlocking depends on which country you are going to.....it is very easy and cheap in South Asia like India and Pakistan.....but difficult in Middle East.....
So the best alternative might be to buy a cheap GSM phone there and sell it when you return here.
Have a happy and safe journey
Thanks for the help everyone. Unfortunately, Tmobile couldn't give me an unlock code since I'm not their customer. I've got some more digging to do. I came across some sites offering the code for a fee, are they legit? I just don't understand how they get the code when I can't.
Go to ebay and buy it. for abt $6.49, they will give the code to you. I unlocked mine via ebay... Try any seller.
Based on timezone, buy from US seller or your local seller to get it quick.
Like for US try http://cgi.ebay.com/UNLOCK-CODE-T-M...025?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e5f205f99
Make sure u provide them your IMEI code.. dial *#06# Or look under battery.
Hi everyone. I've got a question. So my friend has a Droid 2 Global purchased with a bad ESN. Is it possible to change this? Would it be a matter of changing the ESN number? And what exactly is the difference between ESN, IMEI, and MEID? They all uniquely identify the phone, correct?
And if it is not possible to change the ESN or whatever needs to be done, can the device be unlocked to work on AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint?
Thanks.
-Zane
ESN is the “old style” MEID. When you're talking about “bad ESN” that's effectively “bad MEID”.
IMEI is a GSM phone's unique ID, MEID is it's CDMA counterpart; MEIDs are only blacklisted by a single carrier while with IMEI, carriers (or even governments) can have agreements established to prevent cellphone theft.
There are no really affordable ways to change the MEID of a D2G.
To use a D2G with AT&T and T-Mobile you have to:
1. Unlock it via an unlock code (normally provided by VZW Global Services if the phone is active on an account in good standing for the last 6 months). The codes are sold on eBay (and specialised websites) and are a hit&miss kind of thing. If a code bought off eBay didn't work, don't bother buying from another seller. They're the same.
2. Perform a band unlock. AT&T and T-Mobile GSM networks are blacklisted in the baseband of D2G. Team Black Hat does a band unlock for a $100 fee; you have to mail the phone to them for the procedure, and you will be unable to update the firmware; it has to stay at 2.4.29 for the band unlock to work. Custom ROMs are ok, though.
As far as I remember, it's definitely possible to flash the D2G to use Cricket. Sprint, I'm not sure since I don't know which exact CDMA revision Sprint Nextel uses.
able chance ESN bad to good
1. root the phone(look on http://www.xda-developers.com for tutorials)
2. Flash a custom rom
3. connect the phone to any WiFi internet connection so you have access
4. Download an app on the app market called "MSL READER" this is the code you need in order to edit your settings.
5. go to the dial pad like your about to make a call and hit "##3282#" then click edit settings and enter the MSL NUMBER the app gave you
6. Well now you need to look for further details HINT: YOU MUST HAVE AND THIS IS REQUIRED... QPST TOOLS OR CDMA WORKSHOP TO CHANGE THE ESN/DEC NUMBER.. Use Port 7 or 28 to connect. You need to find a good ESN to replace the Bad one. Two ways to do it. You can look on ebay at phones like the one your want to activate and find a seller who has posted the ESN. Get that ESN and use it to replace your Bad one. Keep in mind who ever ends up with the phone on ebay will get the message, "Sorry, the phone you are trying to activate is active on another line." There is nothing he can do about it. You activated it first. If you have moral issues with theese directions that always work here is another way you can try. I have had success doing this with LG, SAMSUNG and Motorola phones. Simply change the last digit of the ESN number and only the last digit. Example: A000001769214F8 = BAD ESN Change to A000001769214F6 = Even for even Odd for Odd numbers. Works.
however, i don't know how to unlock ... anyone else can unlock it pls show me how to do that ... thanks

Greetingz to the fam!
I'm a new kid on the block. I have a network locked Razr Maxx. I've bought the Unlock Code. I tried the combination codes to input the code, but when it prompts me to enter the unlock code, the phone dialer doesn't give me the option to enter alphabets. The code has alpha-
numeric characters, something like: 501B3GH7. I'm running the latest ICS. I have root access and need to carrier-unlock.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
There is no carrier unlock for the XT912.they're all unlocked for international use by default. And theres no option to use it on US GSM carriers such as AT&T or Tmobile since a solution to the block hasn't been found. Wherever you got the unlock code from, hopefully you can get a refund.
The XT910 is another story, for that model you need only bout with a non approved sim card and the phone prompts you for the unlock code.

Hello all, i am trying to get my phone unlocked currently its locked to Telus Canada & Model ALCATEL ONE TOUCH IDOL 3 5.5 6045I .
Have tried 4 different sites selling unlock codes. They all provided me similar codes, one company provided 4 different codes and some 1 or 2 but the codes are same.
cellunlocker.net
Oneunlock.com
guaranteedunlock.com
canadagsm.ca
None of the codes worked, i have now 4 tires left. Tried factory reset before entering the code, have made sure that IMEI number, Provider ID and image Mapping (Secro / SRO) was provided. I even received SPCK code also but phone only asks for SIM lock code.
Anyone have any idea what could be going on, i am using windmobile sim to unlock it. This phone has never been activated on the Rogers, it was BNIB.
Thanks for your time.
Have you tried any eBay unlockers? I found this one: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Unlock-Code-...116098?hash=item4ae66766c2:g:HuoAAOSw~1FUXz7Q
Thanks for the link, but they do not support this phone. Got an email back from them. Thanks
Did you ever get this resolved? I have a similar problem. All the sites I request an unlock code from give me a server error. Telus can't find the IMEI in their system although the UPC verifies it is a Telus device .
I used this site for my Bell Idol 3: http://www.mobifree.ca/

Usually, the vendor you purchase from will give you instructions. They're nearly the same for all phones. You put in a SIM card from another carrier and put in the code, or sometimes you have a number sequence first

Hi! Thanks for the help. I realised that you need to have your Wifi / Data turned on in order for the pop-up asking for the codes appear.
Although the codes that I bought didn't really worked...
I have never had to have wifi or data turned on for an unlock code to pop up. I've unlocked plenty of phones, including 2 Idol3 phones. All I need to do was power up the phone with a foreign sim inside.
I have ZTE MF920W+ LTE Ufi modem, I had been trying to unlock it but all effort was futile, I tried all forums but haven't met anything similar at all. Without unlocking it, I'm unable to change from 4G, 3G nor Edge but all on automatic. I tried using the unlock code but realized it accepts 16 codes and not 12, a friend tried buying the code for me but none of the codes worked. Please help ASAP.

Hello, I am currently connected to the web using a AT&T ZTE MF923 that I bought brand new from Best Buy. The device was considered GoPhone which is a prepay. I did not ever activate the device with AT&T, I immediately requested the unlock code. The response I got was *we cannot provide you with the unlock code for this device because it has been flagged as fraudulent. I assumed that the reason this happened was that the device came in a box IMEI id printed next to the product barcode on the outside of the package for anyone to see. AT&T does not want people to but these things then unlock them without opening the package and then sell them online as "unlocked device." So I went to unlockbase.com and paid 5 dollars for them to send me a code. I paid right before bed and woke up and plugged the code in before I had to leave for work. Now my ZTE MF923 Hotspot device works on Project Fi with a Data-only Sim I had ordered from project fi.
How to unlock:
You cannot unlock the device it's self using it's touch screen interface. You must do 2 things to get unlocking to work.
1. You must have a working SIM card from another Carrier. You can't activate the SIM on this device AS you try to unlock. Ask a friend to borrow their SIM card. This device uses Micro SIM so I had to have a Nano-SIM to Micro-SIM adapter. As long as the SIM you insert is activated on a completely different carrier from the one the device is locked to (mine was ATT so I put my Project Fi phone-plan SIM into it). Insert your SIM.
2. Once you have inserted your sim you need to connect to a computer with a USB cable. Allow any drivers to install automatically.
3. Open your web browser and visit 192.168.1.1
When you plug in via USB it should kick you offline from whatever other internet you have set up. When you visit this page, this is the device setup page AND the router settings page. Once you access the HotSpot settings page WITH a SIM from a different carrier..... You get promoet to type in your unlock code. Mine unlocked on the first try and now works well!!!!!

Sorry for the delayed response.
To receive the unlock code for this device, I first tried requesting it dro. ATT and technically they were supposed to give it to me but they did not. There is some type of rule they have that states that if you buy a prepaid device for AT&T you must have the device in service for a minimum of 12 months before they will let you have an unlock code. But they're supposed to be a loophole in that if you never actually activated the device with AT&T, they're supposed to let you have the unlock code. However they did not. I actually purchased this device with the intention of unlocking it. I never did activate it......so
I went to one of those large carrier unlock websites who will sell you the code for about $5. This does work. There are quite a few of those companies out there who do that so I can't even remember who it was that I went through. just make sure that you research the company you're buying from and you'll have success.
I have successfully unlocked this device for unlock contact me my fb id
