[Q] Hard reset but ADB backup? - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was going to do a hard reset, to fix the APK install error on my Moto G. Afterwards I wanted to restore an ADB backup, but I'm unsure whether this will bring the issue back to my phone.
Did anyone else already try that?

[Q] Permissions change...boot loop

Hey,
Rooted my Galaxy Tab plus, then backed it up with TB, then tried to transfer the backup to the external sd... which didn't work. I then very precisely (I thought) followed the instructions for creating permissions to write to the external sd, and as per those instructions, rebooted.
And so my Tab has. Rebooted, and rebooted, and rebooted, and rebooted.
I've got it in recovery mode at the moment... but does anyone know how to get this thing out of circular reboot mode? I'm leery of doing a factory reset from recovery until I know if that will have the desired effect--mainly, getting me back into my Tab. I have the stock firmware and ODIN, if that's what's needed. I just need some advice on which is the best to try.
Or, if there's an altogether different solution, then please share...
This may not be useful to solve your problem. However, FYI,...
I was able to applied the permission mod previously, and afterwards, I did a factory reset. It did not remove the permission mod that I applied. That is, after the reset, it was still able to write the the external SD even though all my data and apps were gone.
So chances are the factory reset is not going to solve your problem.
factory reset doesn't mess with the system partition - it basically just wipes the /data partition. So it won't fix your problem.
If you have ODIN, just find a replacement image and re-image the device.

I initially downloaded the stock firmare for the US version, after discovering for myself that doing a factory reset from it's semi-bricked state did no good. The original firmare download was somehow incomplete; it reached an "unexpected end" while extracting and so would not work in ODIN. Then my Tab wouldn't connect to the computer I was using at all.
Fortunately, I was able to re-download the firmware and use ODIN on another computer, so I was able to get back to stock. Even after that, however, I had to do a factory reset; for some reason, my Tab downloaded the first update from Samsung, but would not make the leap to LA3. Once I did the factory reset, though, all was well.
Then, of course, I immediately re-rooted and manually made the changes that let me write to the external sd--correctly, this time. No trouble at all on reboot.
Thank God.

Help me please!!!!!

Ive been running a GTN7000 on rooted ICS for some time without any errors however today I decided to remove Chainfire 3D, after the compulsory reboot my phone shows no display after the initial logo. The normal jingles and vibrations take place and the buttons are lit but there is no screen output.
Does anyone know how to fix this without wiping my phone? thanks
It seems like you have a soft brick. Try a reset via Samsung Kies or look for a soft brick undo guide or something.
I am sorry I cannot help any further as I do not own a note myself and therefore have minimal experience with the device.
Would like to hope you can fix it.
Hit thanks if I helped.
i think you should try to soft reset it. you can use any reset method you already know....
sorry if i couldnt help you any further too. but as for me, when i face some error like that, i've always reset my phone (coz i already backup my data with titanium backup)
Hi guys, sorry for the delay.
I've finally managed to fix it.
After fighting through a whole heap of errors and reflashing the device at least 10 times I now have my phone back to a fully working rooted ICS state. I did however loose all my data.

[q] motorola xoom 4g lte verizon model mz602 wont reset at all. It says bp failed

HELLO EVERYONE,
this is my first time ever posting, I have a very weird issue with my Motorola xoom tablet, this is a Verizon Motorola xoom 4g model mz602.
the issue I am having is that every time I try to factory reset my tablet it goes back to the WAY it was left, what I mean is that it wont reset at all,
I tried everything from factory reset on RECOVERY mode to RSD lite program using factory SFB file and FAST BOOT COMMANDS, and nothing is working,
the weird thing is that THEY all say that they were SUCCESSFUL to reset and stuff, but when tablet reboots its back at the exact same way it was, same apps, say google account, same wifi network , everything is the same as if it was not resetted at all, when I tried the FACTORY RESET from recovery it says this
wiping data
performing BP clear
BP CLEAR FAILED.
formatting data
formatting cache
data wipe complete
but then when the tablet reboots same thing, tablet is back to the way it is with all the user data and all the information there,
when I say I tried everything I mean everything, I unlocked the OEM to to try to install a custom rom but when I try to install the custom recovery the tablet will reset back to its original RECOVERY. I even followed the GUIDE to make sure to go STRAIGHT into recovery to avoid the INITIAL boot to restore the original recovery, but it will not work, so like I said, when I try to restore the image using RSD lite, computer shows as if everything succeeded on RSD lite, but it doest work, FAST BOOT commands from ADB show successful or completed, but same thing, please some body help .
thank you in advance

Failed backup restore after factory reset

Hello Guys, i recently had some problems with battery life and was adviced to do a factory rest. It seemed like a good idea to me...well at least untill now. I did factory reset just minutes ago after making sure the phone is backed up: calls, apps, messeages and device settings. To my surpise Google found only 8 apps from back up and NOTHING else. Im left with nothing. I've found back up folder in google drvive that contains all the data backed up correctly (that seemed to not be use after reset) alsi it seems thati cant do anything with it, just delete the files. Also i've noticed that now in the "backup" setting all active backups are on "waiting to backup" mode. :crying: Is there anyone that had a similar problem or maybe know how to fix it? Probably important information: Im on newest version of Android P Beta. The only idea i have now is to factory reset phone again and see if it helps..

Creating Backup on XT1033 stuck on Bootloop

Hi everyone,
I hope I am in the right forum to post my query. I am trying to find a solution to the existing Problem. Before I get to describe the problem specifically I must make it clear that this is my first time on any android forum. While trying to find a solution for the existing problem, I had to google words like Bootloop, Softbrick, TWRP, Custom Recovery, Root, Flash, ROM etc. They still do not make much sense to me (I will be reading more about them in the coming days). So now you can imagine how big of a Noob I am.
Well, I own a Moto G 1st Gen XT1033. Since yesterday it is in a Bootloop. The phone boots completely at times but automatically restarts itself after a while. Sometimes I have 1-2 minutes at maximum to use the phone. Until now I have been able to delete quite a bit of data for example pictures and certain apps because I thought that Bootloop was happening because of no space on the memory. The last app that I installed 3 days back from Google Play after which this problem started occurring, I was also able to uninstall it. Until now I have tried wiping out Cache by going in the recovery mode but that didnt fix the Reboot problem. I also tried holding the Volume Up + Volume Down + Power button for 2 minutes (I read it on internet somewhere as a fix to the problem) but that didnt help either. I have never created a backup and I don't want to do a Factory Reset as a fix to the problem because I don't want to lose the data. I also tried to follow your solution for backing up data but I got lost. I don't know where to start from. Thats why I am writing here.
I don't know if my phone is rooted. I did turn on Developer Mode on my phone in the past (if this info helps).
I do not know which Android version I have but I am guessing that it is Lollipop.
I never installed TWRP or any Custom Recovery software on my phone before.
The battery is working ok.
What I am looking for is:
1) Step by step guide to create a backup
2) Resolving Bootloop issue if possible
Thanks
without custom recovery no data backup is possible.
u need to unlock your bootloader and install The Twrp recovery to perform the backup.
but only fix for you is factory reset.

Thank you @jbanti Apologize for my late response. As far as I know unlocking the bootloader will erase the memory. One can recover data by ADB Pull by using these Threads:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/help/moto-g-1st-gen-xt1033-boot-loop-stock-t3357472 (Post #4)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2426426
So I know that there it is possible using`adb pull` command to take backup of whole device but I don't know how. I get lost in the 2nd thread. Any lead would be appreciated
Thanks
